Queries :: Using Hidden Main Switchboard To Store Data Such As Current Customer ID

Oct 1, 2013

I have a very large Access application and use a hidden "main switchboard" to store data such as the current customer ID. Prior to the advent of tempvars, I embedded a key control into many query's underlying combo boxes, list boxes and forms criteria:

"Forms![main switchboard]![currentcustomerid].

The problem arises when the user quits the application on with forms using this in their underlying query(ies). As far as I can tell, the application closes forms in the order in which they were opened, so the "main switchboard" closes first. Then, for some reason, the current form has a requery and the user is presented with a prompt to enter the parameter "forms![main switchboard]![currentcustomerid]. I tested and found I could replace the criteria reference to a tempvar to "fix" the problem. I wonder if there would be a way to open every query in design view and do a search and replace on the criteria statement.

Reports :: Possible To Open A Report With Access Main Window Hidden?

Jul 18, 2014

I'm working on a database that produces employee contracts. To make it look as professional as possible I hide the Access main window when the splash screen loads using the ShowWindow function. The various forms to check and enter details all pop up without any problem, but when I get to the last stage where I use a report to produce the contract and then open it in PrintPreview mode, it won't display (unless I show the main window again , which looks very untidy!). Is it actually possible to display a report with the main Access window hidden?

Creating A Switchboard (main Menu)

Sep 9, 2005

I have recently created a small inventory database just for fun, but I am looking to expand my knowledge with Access since I have not dealt with it hardly at all. I would like to know how to create a regular main menu to the database that gives you options on what you want to do. I would like to be able to look up inventory by serial number, edit inventory, add inventory, and run reports from the main menu. If anyone could help, I would greatly appreciate it.

Queries :: Comparing Data From Current To Previous Years

Oct 9, 2013

I have a table which is used to record electric billing period dates, total kWh and costs for a list of locations each month. I would like to compare the quarter total kWh and costs for this year "2013" against same quarter last year "2012". I have created two queries, the 1st is capturing data from 2013 and the 2nd is capturing data from 2012. I created a 3rd query which joins the 1st and 2nd together by month where fields match. Both tables have the same fields, however there is more records in 2012 than 2013. How can I join the tables together so months that have no data are left blank?

There are queries in my database that are not displayed in the query window of Access.

They are listed in the MSysObjects tables but I need to update the query and I cannot get to it.

I have show hidden objects checked in the options (MSys... tables are displayed but not these queries).

Why is this happening and how can I change it?

Thanks in advance

Queries :: Group Financial Data To One Main Table - Round To 2 Decimal Places

Feb 25, 2014

I have about ten append queries to group various financial data to one main table.

I have used the round function (iff (Round(Nz([FIN_data]),2)) in the queries to round the original data into 2 decimal places but there is still one or two lines exceeding 2 decimal places.

What is the better approach to have only 2 decimal places for all append data?

Field Data Not Visible / Hidden

Aug 22, 2014

I have 30 fields on a form that houses codes that are 1 to 2 digits in length. Some of those codes are used way more often than others so I decided to build a VBA script to apply the most common codes to the fields based on entry in 3 other fields and applied to a button. The code works great but one of the fields (the 6th one) is behaving oddly. I have tried multiple criteria for code and it is ONLY the 6th field being the pain. The code is applied to the field but it is invisible until that field gains focus by either clicking on it or tabbing to it. I checked the fields format to others of the 30 and all of the settings are exactly the same. There is not anything set in any of the events and there is not any other code pointing at those fields.

Add Customer Name Into Table Each Time Unique Customer Added To SaleTable

Dec 11, 2013

I have a Table Sales - that lists customer and order information

Most of the customers are new - is there a way to populate Customer Name Table with a new entry each time a new customer is input into the Sales Tale

(Without having to add the custome to Customer Name Table - then going to Sales Order)
OR
Failing that - is there a way to use a list box that points to Customer Name Table (and if it doesn't find the one you want, will allow you toadd a new record) In the SAME form as you use to add to Sales Table.

So:
Date (textbox linking to form.Sales) Customer Name (List Box linking to form.CustomerName + adding the info to form.Sale)

Queries :: Format Field As Password Or Hidden Text

May 22, 2014

I have a query that I am sending as a spreadsheet to various service technicians listing parts that they need to take inventory of. Then, after they take the inventory, they send the spreadsheet back to me and I upload their counts back into my database. Right now, my query contains the Bin number, part number, part description, and a blank column for the technician's count. I have just learned, that the company does not want the Bin number to be visible in the report. In order to upload the technician counts into the database when they return the spreadsheet, I need to be able to reference the Bin number to get the count on the right line.

Is there something that I can do so that the Bin number will be visible in the report when the database reads it, but not to the technician?

The only solution I could think of was to format the Bin Number as a password. Unfortunately, I can't get that to work in the query results. If I save the bin number as a password in the table, is there a way to make it visible on reports for internal use (so the people in headquarters who are responsible for over all inventory can still see each bin number)? I found how to hide the field in the query results. However, when I send the results to the technician, the field is not there at all.

Forms :: Main Form With 2 Subforms Fails To Open Current Record

May 12, 2014

I have a main form "frmDriverNoticeRecord" with 2 subforms, "frmSubDriverNotice" and "frmSubVehicleRecord"..The main form uses "IncidentID" as the PK. Each form stores data in its own table. The tables are related via IncidentID and there is a 1-many relationship between tblIncident (main) and tblDN (sub) and tblVehicle (sub).

I have a form "frmIncidentLog" displaying records in a table view with a few fields for quick reference and to allow selection of a single record for detailed viewing. I created a command button with the intent to open the "frmDriverNoticeRecord" at the current record. The main form and child link fields appear to be linked correctly; i.e. IncidentID on all three. If I open the form manually it opens and I can use it and search and filter as I want. If I try to open it via the command button It opens a small window asking for the IncidenID, when I enter theIncidentID number, it opens the form to the first record every time.Here is the code:

Private Sub comOpenDR_Click()

Dim frmName As String
Dim recID As String
frmName = "frmDriverNoticeRecord"
recID = "[IncidentID]=" & Me![IncidentID]
DoCmd.OpenForm frmName, , , recID
End Sub

I tried running the the DoCmd.OpenForm command directly from the button using the where condition (in various manners) with the same results.

Queries :: Combobox Items Hidden Based On Table Field

Nov 17, 2014

I have a combox with the following query in its RowSource: SELECT [Error Codes].[ID], [Error Codes].[ErrorCode], [Error Codes].[Active] FROM [Error Codes] ORDER BY [Error Codes].[ErrorCode];

I now need to change the query's Rowsource via code and so far I have figured out that this works:

Code : Forms![frmAcceptReturn].Form.cmbErrorCodes.RowSource = "Select ID, ErrorCode FROM [Error Codes Missing]"

However, the table "Error Codes Missing" also has a field called "Active" which I need to take into account; If the error code is not active then it should not show up in the combobox.

I know how to do that in the original RowSource, but how do I do it with code?
