Queries :: DCount To Add Sequential Numbers By Group Only Works In Some Instances

Jun 24, 2014

I have a large table (>1M rows), and I have searched various forums for a way to add sequential numbers by Group. The query I have works, but since it's a large table, I broke it up, and did everything what starts with A-E, the F-Q, etc, and appended to a new table.

This query works, on anything that starts with the letter D or later... A-C will not work.

Basically, the source table is a list of all combinations of Part_ID and UPC_Code. I am trying to number the UPC_Code field, per Part_ID. There is an AutoNumber field (ID) that is in the table as well.

This is the SQL. Query1 is the query that is being executed, so the DCount is within this same query, if that makes sense.

Code:
SELECT tbl_upc.ID, tbl_upc.Part_ID, tbl_upc.upc_code, DCount("[Part_ID]","Query1","[Part_ID] = '" & [Part_ID] & "'")-DCount("[Part_ID]","Query1","[Part_ID] = '" & [Part_ID] & "' AND [ID] > " & [ID]) AS Seq_Num
FROM tbl_upc
GROUP BY tbl_upc.ID, tbl_upc.Part_ID, tbl_upc.upc_code
ORDER BY tbl_upc.ID;

The results of this query are that all Part_IDs that start with A through C produces a Seq_Num of 0, but any that start with a "D" or later number correctly - in other words, the first instance of a particular Part_ID is 1, then 2, and so on up to the total count of that Part_ID.

Running Access 2013.

Reports :: Sum Group Items By Specific Item And Hide Details Of Group Summing

May 29, 2015

Despite Google I can't seem to figure this out.

I have some data in a format similar to:

Name / Style / description / speed / distance
john / driver / careful / 80 / 5500
mary / driver / careful / 70 / 7000
pat / racer / reckless / 100 / 6000
anne / driver / careful / 75 / 1000
peter / racer / reckless / 110 / 6500
don / snail / slow / 60 / 6000

I want my report to total by style, without details and to look like:

driver careful 13500
racer reckless 12500
snail slow 6000

How do you get a report to sum the group items by a specific item and to hide the details of that group summing?

Sequential Number By Group In A Field?

Jul 19, 2015

I have a table like the one below. I need to Auto Sequence based on JobIDOne in the field that says sequence in the manner that I've typed. Hand typing is not an option because by table will be updated regularly. All other fields are updated via a form. I need a either a macro or VBA solution that can reconcile this, preferably through the table. Note, I do not want to use a query to create this sequencing or SQL language as I do not know how to write SQL commands.

I know it can be done but I've seen about a thousand ways to do it that I haven't been able to modify for my specific table.

DateOne
TimeIn
JobIDOne
InitialsOne
Dates Worked One
Sequence

Counting Part Numbers In Tables ?

Aug 2, 2007

I am pritty new to access and have been tasked with creating a database !
I have two tables one called main which has 26,000 claims (listed under there part number).
The other table called part numbers is a list of all the part numbers in the main table but with no duplicates (126 part numbers)
I need to somehow count how many times a part number apears in the main table. Maybe display a count in the part number table as a extra field ? then i could put this field into the form i created to browse the parts numbers (to show how many times the part number appears in the main table)

Counting True Items

May 4, 2006

Can anyone help?
I have a table with the following:
Booked with a y/n field
Person Name with a text field
So...
Yes(True) Jim
Yes(True) Jim
No(False) Jim

What I need is to be able to show a query that shows if the checkbox is ticked (True) and the Name is Jim total up how many true items there are. So from the above I can see that Jim has 2 true items. I would then like this shown in a text box is this possible?
Also, it is not always going to be a person called Jim so... (From above)
Yes(True) Jim
Yes(True) Jim
No(False) Jim
Yes(True) Jack

So how would this go on a query in a sub form? So Name Jim would show 2 and Jack would show 1? At the moment is is grouping the name and I dont want that.
Any ideas
Cheers

Forms :: Counting Items In Combo Box

I have a form that has three cascading combo boxs, plus a subform. The third combo has a list of questions, and you put your answer in the txt box in the subform.

What has to happen is that the combo box has a number of questions and each has to be answered, is there a way to know if all these questions have been answered by knowing what listindex or listcount ect that has be used and to have something set to advise the user that there are more questions and what ones are to be answered.

Reports :: Counting Items And Putting Them In Text Boxes?

Jun 6, 2013

I've got a table with 23 columns. Column 1 is the ID row which has a unique client ID in it. Then we've got a column called 1st_Reason and one that goes with it called 1st_Transfer_Date. This pair repeats for 2 through 10. Each of the Reason columns can have a set value, for example "First Processor".

What I need to do is create a date with months on the Y axis and the 5 different reasons on the X axis. I need to count the number of "First Processor" across all 10 Reason columns for each month. I would need to repeat that for each other reason type, but if I can get one to work I can simply change the reason type.

Here's what I'm using to count May's total:

Code:
=Sum(IIf([Current_Reason]="First Processor" And [Current_Processor_Transfer] Between #4/30/2013#
And #6/1/2013#,1,IIf([1st_Reason]="First Processor" And [1st_Transfer_Date] Between #4/30/2013#
And #6/1/2013#,1,0)))+(IIf([2nd_Reason]="First Processor" And [2nd_Transfer_Date] Between #4/30/2013#
And #6/1/2013#,1,IIf([3rd_Reason]="First Processor" And [3rd_Transfer_Date] Between #4/30/2013#

[Code] .....

I get wildly inconsistent results. On one of the types, it's only counting where it's the 1st_Reason. Some of the others return the same value regardless of which month I have selected.

Queries :: Sequential Numbering Within A Query

Feb 6, 2014

I've taken on the task of transitioning excel reports (and their format) to a database. One report summarizes all the parts of a piece of furniture, and the order of the machines each part goes to.It looks similar to this:

Part# Part Name Machines/Operations
M7264Top Panel 112114116120121325216
M7265Under Top Panel 112114116120121
M7266Base Assembly 411325216311310312316

The table this comes from has both operations and setups, so I used a query to filter only the operations. The query (qryOperations) result looks like this:

PART NUMBEROPERATION ORDER
M7264 112 2
M7264 114 4
M7264 116 6
M7264 120 7
M7264 121 8
M7264 325 9
M7264 216 10
M7265 112 2
M7265 114 4
M7265 116 6
M7265 120 8
M7265 121 9

i need to add sequential numbering (1,2,3,4...) to each line of the qryOperations and use the sequential numbering as the column header. How do I add sequential numbers to the query, that restart after each change in part number? I can do this in a report easy enough, but not a query. This is the SQL of the query I need to have the sequential numbers in...

SELECT tblparts.[PART NUMBER], tblOperationCodes.MachineCode, tblOperationsList.Order
FROM tblparts INNER JOIN (tblOperationsList INNER JOIN tblOperationCodes ON tblOperationsList.OperationCode = tblOperationCodes.OperationCode) ON tblparts.[PART NUMBER] = tblOperationsList.[PART#]
WHERE (((tblOperationCodes.Function)="O"))
ORDER BY tblparts.[PART NUMBER], tblOperationsList.Order;

Queries :: Query To Add Sequential Number To Table

Dec 16, 2013

We have a large database table [PRODUCT] with the following fields PROPNUM and P_Date and GAS. We need to normalize the GAS field to the first month of production based on P_Date and sequential months following to average the data. We believe the easiest way is to create a sequential number for each Key PROPNUM that represents the first month of GAS the second month of GAS etc.

We have followed several of the posts on how to sequentially number records, but are struggling to get them to work. The latest effort was to use the make a table query creating an expression with the following.

DCount("*","PRODUCT","[PROPNUM]=" & [PROPNUM] & " AND[P_DATE]<=#" & Format([P_DATE],"mm/dd/yyyy") & "#")

Queries :: Unable To Find Missing Sequential Numbers In A Text Field

May 5, 2013

I am trying to create a query to find missing sequential numbers in a text field. I am using this specific field as a case number which is designated as two letters, the # sign, two digits indicating the year, a dash, and then a four digit number; For Example: AB#13-1234.

The reason for this query is to tell the user of this database that a specific case number has yet to be entered and needs to be. The case numbers are unique and will never be referenced more than once.

My table name is "MainDataTbl" and the field i'm trying to find the missing case numbers is titled "CaseNumber".

Queries :: Adding Sequential Numbers To Generate A Unique Reference Number

Oct 5, 2013

Basically what I have is a database for tracking/logging parcels that arrive to the office. I want to be able to generate a reference number based on the date of arrival: i.e. the reference number should be ddmmyy### where ### is a sequential number. I know that I could just use the primary key's autonumber, for the sequential number but if I do this then the sequence will not restart at 1 on each date and because we receive a lot of parcels the reference number will grow to be too big to print out on the collection slips in just a few months.

two tables (one with the date and staff on duty that day and the other with the parcel's info') with a one to many relationship

I also have a query (Named: FullLog) that picks up the following data from the tables:

Name - Description - Size - TrackingInfo' - Staff - DateReceived - Count

The field named Count is a DCount function that I used to find out the number of times each date is repeated. This is the Expression that I used:

Count: DCount("*","FullLog","DateReceived = " & [DateReceived]) [Note that DateReceived is first converted into a string using CStr()]

This is as far as I have been able to get, I have been looking for weeks for a solution to this problem but I have yet to find one. I don't even know if the DCount function is the correct way of doing it, I did read somewhere that this produces a very slow query.

Effectively what I want to be able to get is something of that resembles the following

DateReceived - ReferenceNo

051013 051013001
051013 051013002
051013 051013003
061013 061013001
061013 061013002
071013 071013001
071013 071013002
071013 071013003
071013 071013004
071013 071013005
081013 081013001

Tricky Question - Form Part Data Entry, Part Not

Dec 16, 2004

I have what I think is a difficult problem to overcome...

I am designing a form to create an invoice. The user will select a workstream and a date range in form frmInvByHrs. Within this I want two sub-forms, one is frmInvByHrsTsht and the other is frmInvByHrsBill. I want the first one to display all the staff and their hours done, and the second one to be in data entry mode where you can enter the hours you want to bill. Each sub-form is based on a separate query.

Is it possible to do this? ie. to have one sub-form in data entry mode, and the other not? It seems to me that the data entry mode is controlled by the MAIN form regardless of the sub-form settings!

If this is not possible, do you know how I can acheive this?

Thanks

Date Problem - Part Constant - Part Now()

Nov 3, 2006

Hi everyone,

I have refined my query from previous threads to involved a module function. This calculates more acurately no of working days between dates and takes into account a holidays table. (All credit to Arvin Meyer on the module:) )
However because the Leave Year starts at the 1 July and finishes 30 Jun I need to compose the date for any current year Year(Now())

Enclosed scrdmp shows my query design. I can easily get it to work as you see it, but obviously as each year rolls over, the year needs to change.

Have looked at many posts but can't find what I'm looking for. This one will get me over the hurdle.

Queries :: OR Using Part Of String From Parameter Box

Aug 1, 2014

I have a criteria in a parameter query that asks the user to enter a Subsystem number (such as 4596-666-001).
The source data for my database has Systems (e.g, 4596-666) and each system has several Subsystems associated with it (e.g, 4596-666-001, 4596-666-002, etc). The System and Subsystem numbers are stored in the same column of the source data spreadsheet, and hence the same field in my database.

The source data is structured in such a way that Systems and Subsystems have different information. I would like to set up a query that shows the System information as well as the Subsystem information.

For example, if the user enters 4596-666-001 into the parameter dialog box the query returns all the information for 4596-666-001 and 4596-666 (but NOT any other Subsystem).

As a work around I have set up an OR situation where the user first enters the Subsystem number and then another parameter query dialog opens and they enter the System number. This works but is not as nice as simply entering the Subsystem number and having all information returned.

Is there a way to set up my query so the when 4596-666-001 is entered an OR is generated using the first 8 characters of the Subsystem number?
