Queries :: Automatically Building Reporting Database?
Sep 13, 2013
I want to build a database stored on a server which can be used by our employees as basis for their Excel pivot reporting
The idea is as follows:
I make a query that will get selected data (via odbc) from several Progress database tables of our ERP system and write them to one MS access table
The idea is to run each night at midnight a query (append or make table) via a schedule and gradually build a huge database table holding sales details
This table will be used as basis for the Excel pivot reporting .These reports are currently run directly on the ERP system's database which slows things down
Question:
1. Is it possible to automate the queries (perhaps via scheduler or 3rd party program ?
2. what would be better to use an append query that adds data or a maketable query which constantly replaces the data ?
3. How many ODBC connections on a MS Access database can I have at the same time ?
As a basic user of Access I believe I have identified a use for the program for the purposes of a reporting task which I am charged with at the moment. We undertake the weekly tracking of proposals, which involves in brief, the action required for the bigger proposals, the teams involved in writing the proposals and follow up information as well as registration of wins and losses etc. At the moment we use Excel but I am finding it extremely labour intensive with entries having to be removed and captured by only one person on a weekly basis and when you are talking about 40 to 50 new proposals registered nationally in a week and about 100 updates on existing jobs it becomes a perpetual case of chasing your tail.
Am I right in thinking that if we were to design a simple, effective database with a form design that all our research directors could use with ease, and we could merely run reports off each week that this would not produce a far quicker reaction time when it comes to pooling international resources but also far more effective reporting system with which to produce our management summaries?
I am aware that this will probably require quite a bit of consultation on design but before I go shouting the merits of Access to any of my superiors I wanted to make sure I could be confident of Access's capabilities first?
Can anyone advise? point me in the right direction?
I need some assitant in building a simple check reconciliation database. I was wondering if anyone can guide me in doing so? Or if anyone has some kind of sample i can use that would be great. thanks
Hi all, i'm new here and I have a query about a database i'm building with which any help would be appreciated.
I'm designing a form and I need to be able to have an option to save to a temporary table for retrieval by users so that they can continue their saved record at a later time. Does anyone have any ideas on the best way to do this as I am relatively inexperienced and I have to have the whole database complete before Wednesday:confused:
Hi i have a assignment in which i have to build a database with documentation (attached file has details about the assignment) I have no prior database experience, and have no idea where to start.I want to build the database for a computer store which sells computer products. I don't want to make it very complex, since my database skills at this stage are very poor. I will appreciate if someone gives me a run down or steps in building this database. I have no clue where to start, since this is probably the first database i have ever built.
hey, is there anyone who wil be of help to me by creating me a quick and simple database. It needs to keep track how many spare parts I have. Therefore it needs to show how many of each spare part i have, and be able to update the stock levels with a submit request page that when the submit button is pressed the stock levels automatically update. the information required for each spare part is article (what the product is from), article number ( the unique article number of the product), colour (the colour which its from), spare part (what it actually is) and quantity.
I have a crosstab query that reports KPI numbers for the last 5 weeks, using the week no as the column header. Then I am generating a report from this query. It works 100%
However, when I go to the next week, the report fails as the first week from the previous query no longer exists
So, this is happening...
The first report generated columns called 39,40,41,42,43 because the crosstab query uses week number as the header.
The second report (1 week later) cant find column 39 so it crashes!
Can't see how to change the column header to a generic as it is created by the crosstab.....
I have been all over the internet and trying different things for hours to no solution. I have created a form (Code) which I am using to auto fill two categories in a form using dlookup. Both categories fill perfectly but I cannot get the information to transfer to a query in order to capture the information in a report.
These are the dlookups I've been using and the categories I'm attempting to capture are "Description" and "Category"
I currently have 2 tables in a database that I'm trying to build a query off of. The first table lists personnel & their position #s, and the second table has a column for "rated person", "rater", "senior rater" and "reviewer" which are all part of our annual evaluations. I'm trying to program the query to display the names of the person attached to a position #, but can only get the query to return the actual position #s.
I'm using the table to assign each position # appropriately, i.e. position # 10202 is rated by 10103 and senior rated by 10101; I do this with the lookup data type. Once each position # is assigned, I'd like the query to display the name of the personnel instead of the position #, i.e. when queried, it would return under the rater column JOHN SMITH instead of 10202, and in the senior rater column JOHN JONES instead of 10103, etc.
I have a combobox that I use to combine the employees first name and id number. So when you pull down the list you can select the employee you want and it is saved in the form. Now I need to create a query so that I can create a report on each employee separately. The query will not let me get the Employee Frist Name/ID from that saved field. I thought that what is saves in that field, you can retrieve it in your queries or reports.
Record Primary Key: ID_Wells..The TxtFedStCo has Fed, St, Co, ... in one field - and a Dt_Apd_Sub (date submitted) .There can be zero or many dates submitted for each Fed or State.
Objective: If A Fed has (1 or many) date submitted AND A St has (1 or many) date submitted Condition is TRUE
How do I get to the next step? The reason for doing this in SQL is to prototype in Access, then move this over to TSQL later.
I am building a database with Access 2013. The information contains data built from a workplace violence report form. I have to build a query to pick the data but must fall between two different years. The data range must be from 09/01 previous year (ex. 2012) and 08/31 current year (ex. 2013).
As the database collects more information, the year range will change but the other information will stay the same (ex 09/01/2013 to 08/31/2014).I do not want to change the query annually, just let it change the year automatically.
Can anyone give me guidance or code on how to automatically compact and repair.
There is something going on in my database when I open and it goes from 3.7kb to 26 kb each time it is opened - I cant find out why - ope to the why suggestion but another option is to automatically compact and repair
I want to automatically hide all the tables in the database, and automatically hide any new tables that are created, imported thereafter, except one mastertable. How do i achieve this?
I am new to MS Access. I got two databases. The 1st database consists of the basic fields like the department, adress, salary etc of the employers(Primary key is the ID). Now in the 2nd database I have the same basic fields and some extra fields. Now my requirement is to when I enter the ID in 2nd database, all the basic fields have to be filled up based on the 1st database( May be I should link the 2 databases).
Hi, When the user clicks on the file name, I want the form to load automatically & also at the same time minimize the database window (i.e. the window where all the tables, queries etc are listed). Any suggestions?
I have created and saved a form in access automatically from database table. But when I change Display Control of a field from text box to combo box,it is not reflected in the form automatically after I refresh the form.
I have data in all sorts of tables and databases that are linked together through different systems. I'd like to update some of the information automatically in the evenings or in the middle of the night without needing someone to push a button. Is there a way to do this?
I am looking to automate the process of linking my Access DB with an ODBC connection to an SQL DB with VBA (unless there's an easier way to do it?) - some sample code - if this is possible at all?
I want to create a database that keeps track of contributions of members of an association. Every member can voluntarily give a standing order to contribute a fixed amount every month. A member can as well decide to review his/her contribute.
how I can come up with a database that can automatically add the contribution of a member monthly without manual input since the stated contribution is known. So that I can run a report for individual member and the report can capture the every monthly contribution that has been added automatically and shows when ever a member changes his/her contribution amount.
I have created an MS Access 2007 for a user. When the user uses the database, it automatically saves a copy of the database. Why is this happening? I did create for the database to compact/repair each time to user closes the database. ... However, when I open/close the database, there are not new copies of the database.
As I am having difficulty keeping my database at work digitally signed due to other users using the database; I was curious if I could create a batch file to automatically run at night to sign the database, so that it can automatically update in the AM, without being prompted questions. Or something of this sort?
