Queries :: Create Summary Query For Each Table?

Dec 5, 2013

I have three tables with data.

Table1 is data for meals.
Table2 is data for room costs.
Table3 is data for payments made.

Each of these tables has a foreign key for EventID.I'm trying to produce a report that will show, for each EventID:

The total billed (which is meals + rooms)
The total paid (from Table3)
The balance due (the difference from the two above).

Do I have to create summary queries for each table?

Dec 11, 2006

Hi Guys!

It's me again.

From one of my tables, custinfo, i want to generate a summary of records. What I mean is I want to count the total number of records, count those who doesn't have address entries, count those who doesn't have credit records. So in presentation, I want to have this:

Field No Records With Records Total
Address 10 256 266
CreditREc 5 261 266

Is it possible?

Thanks!

Queries :: Press A Button And Run A Macro / Append Query To Add A Single Summary Record To Another Table

Aug 2, 2013

I have a query run that gives me a list of records that I view on a continuos form. What I want is to press a button and run a macro/Append Query to add a Single Summary record to another table.

For example my query spits out this data

Part # Quantity Serial Number
GO2 1 123
GO2 2 456
GO2 2 789

What I'm looking to get is

Part Number Total Quantity Serial Number 1 Serial Number 2 ..
GO2 5 123 456

I'm stuck on a couple of things.

1. Getting a new single row to append.
2. Getting Serial Numbers from several records to save on to a single record.

Query To Get Summary Results For Multiple Queries

Feb 27, 2006

Hi All,

I have a approximately 70 queries in my database. I would like to be able to run a query which would run all of the queries and output the number of records for each query. Ideally, these would then be written to a table so that the user could then just read the values from the table for the latest results, rathe r than have to execute the whole thing again.

The user may wish to select which queries to run. I was thinking that I would need a table as follows called say tblQueryResults:

QueryToRun - Yes/No - DateRun - NumberOfRecords
Query1 - Yes - -
Query2 - Yes - -
...
...
...
Query70 - Yes - -

So my first dilema is to work out how to run all the chosen queries that the user wishes to run. The user will probably have all 70 ticked as Yes initially.

Should I run this from VB code with a whole lot of VB statements. I would like to loop through the whole table and collect a list of all the queries to run based on a positive Yes for some or all of the queries. The results must then go and be written into the same table under the date it was run and the number of records that was found for each query.

The whole reason for doing this is that queries which return no records need not be run by the user - saving the user time etc. I appreciate that this query will take a considerable amount of time - given that it could be as many as 70 being run one after another.

Thanks,

Evan

Queries :: Counting Occurrences Of P - Summary Column In Crosstab Query

Feb 18, 2014

I need to add a column to a crosstab query that counts all of the occurrences of "P" in a particular row in the crosstab query. Basically "P" stands for "Present" and I need to know how many days each employee was present for his/her shift. The SQL for the crosstab query is as follows:

PARAMETERS [Forms]![frmDashboardReports]![txtStartDateAndTime] DateTime, [Forms]![frmDashboardReports]![txtEndDateAndTime] DateTime;
TRANSFORM First(tblAttendance.AttendanceCode) AS FirstOfAttendanceCode
SELECT tblAttendance.EmployeeName
FROM tblAttendance
WHERE (((tblAttendance.AttendanceDate)>=[Forms]![frmDashboardReports]![txtStartDateAndTime] And (tblAttendance.AttendanceDate)<=[Forms]![frmDashboardReports]![txtEndDateAndTime]))
GROUP BY tblAttendance.EmployeeName
PIVOT Format([AttendanceDate],"Short Date");

This returns an "AttendanceCode" against each employee against each day in the specified time period. I just need to be able to "sum" those codes in a column.

Queries :: Create Table Query From Multiple Fields?

Aug 14, 2013

i essentially have 2 table:

1. Table BIC

A list of codes that will be updated monthly, which will be the basis for querying the second table. Approx 100 rows of data.

2. Table Original

A data file obtained from IT where i'll need to sort it to find any codes that are including in Table1. This includes approx ~ 10,000 row of data.

** note, the "BIC" from "Table BIC" can appear in any of the 5 BIC columns in Table Original.

What i need to do is create a query that will:

1. Search the "BIC" from "Table BIC" in all 5 columns of "Table Original".

2. Where it has a hit, it will create new table - for example, the first row of table Original includes the BIC "ABC" in the "BIC 1" column. A query would create table "ABC" and place this whole record (all 8 fields) in new table "ABC". No modification needed.

3. Where two (or more) BIC's from "Table BIC" appear in one record in "Table Original" - the result will only need to be placed in one of the new tables (really doesn't matter which one). For example, Record #4 includes the BIC "ABC" in field "BIC1" and the BIC "DEF" in the field "BIC4". Therefore, a new table would be created (either ABC or DEF) to capture this information.

Have tried:

Score1: 0 - which does give me the numeric field designation but every field in table contains a 0.

Would like to show Blank field (makes data input easier at a later time) but still have the Numeric designation.

Queries :: Create Update Query To Budget Table Using Access Design View?

trying to create an update query to Budget table using the Access Design View:

Field: PctSls (in tblBudget) Update to: [Expense] / [Sales]. The update query always returns 0. However, if I create a Select query using the same calculation, the correct results is displayed. PctSls is defined in the Budget table.

I haven't worked with Access (2003) for several years but this seems too simple to be causing me such frustration. (Was only a casual user even then).

Queries :: Summary Of Columns In TSQL To Return -1 If Not Equal To 0

Sep 3, 2014

Is there an efficient way to return a -1/0 instead of some number/0?

A table has 4 outer joins to views that return a value or null depending on if that field represents a Federal lease.

These 4 outer joins work.

The result is a ID_Wells column and 4 columns with any combination of values or Null.

This line of TSQL:

ISNULL(ISNULL(dbo.vRE_FedLeaseType.Fed_Lease_Type, '')
+ ISNULL(dbo.vRE_FedLeaseMinOwn.MinOwn, '') + ISNULL(dbo.vRE_FedLeaseSurfOwn.SurfOwn, '') + ISNULL(dbo.vRE_FedDirHzLease.Expr1, ''), '') AS HasFedLease

This creates another final summary column [HasFedLease] that returns 0 or some number.

For the Rule Engine - 0 is False, any other number is True.

Access links to this SQL View. Is there a quick way with out a UDF to convert numbers > 0 to a -1?

Code:
SELECT dbo.Wells.ID_Wells, dbo.vRE_FedLeaseType.Fed_Lease_Type, dbo.vRE_FedLeaseMinOwn.MinOwn, dbo.vRE_FedLeaseSurfOwn.SurfOwn,
dbo.vRE_FedDirHzLease.Expr1 AS CountOffedLeaseDirHz, ISNULL(ISNULL(dbo.vRE_FedLeaseType.Fed_Lease_Type, '')

Queries :: Single Page View - Record Count Summary

Jul 30, 2014

I am basically looking for a way to display the total number of records for a selected number of tables and queries in my database on one screen or on one single page view. The problem with using reports or forms is that they tend to bind you to a single table as a record source. This summary would require multiple tables and queries. The summary data would look something like this with a total coming from a Count() or count type function:

# of records: 3000
# of records to insert: 500
# of records to delete: 400
# of records to update: 2100
# of records changing location: 100

and so on. One from each table or query.

Query Results Summary?

Aug 29, 2006

I'm trying to build a database that will calculate the price of meals. I have a table 'ingredients' that has the ingredients, measurements and prices. As prices can change regularly I assumed that inividual recipes should be queries that calculate the total cost on the fly. My problem is that I regularly need to print out a summary of costings that includes total costs for each recipe.
From reading various posts I have formed the opinion that I REALLY shouldn't store calculated results in a table.
Is there another way to get my summary? Or will I have to resort to being an access pariah?:(

General :: Summary Form / Home Page - Text Boxes Values From Multiple Queries

Jan 20, 2014

I am currently developing a database to provide a friend with an auction tracking and ordering system.

I will have a number of questions the first is related to the Home Page/Dashboard/Summary form I am creating. I basically have a few sections, one of which is a combo box offering the user to select an auction to view in the summary section. This summary section contains the list of lots but I also hope to to expand on this and create multiple text boxes, each containing the answer to a number of queries (totals etc).

I have written all the queries and can see the results however as the form does not have a record source I would like to know how to make each text box populate with the result of different queries (ideally in vb - I am using ms access 2010)?

I have tried a few things, control source doesn't apply as I have no record source (i guess). I investigated Dlookup/Dcount but am unsure if these apply for the same reason. I understand I am likely to need a recordset etc in vb and have already tried a few things but unfortunately none of them work.

Create Table Or Use Queries?

Feb 4, 2008

I have a dilemma. I need my app to print out legally binding property schedules for insurance purposes. A property can have any number of schedules created during a year according to how many changes are made.
My instinct is to use a set of nested queries to generate the reports and then save them as snapshots should they need to be referred to later (they will!!).
However I have just been wondering if I should create a new table that gets populated with the full data for each property schedule when one is printed so that there is a definitive and tangible record for each schedule.
The latter seems like not good practice within Access as I know it but I have this niggling hunch that it might be the right approach for this app. On the lazier note it would also make re-creation or subsequent investigation very much easier than having a whole sequence of horribly dynamic queries!
Does anyone have anything similar (sure someone does) and what did they do?
Thanks for any input

Queries :: How To Create A Quarter Field In A Table

Jul 12, 2013

I have a Date field in the format X/XX/2012 for all my records.

I want to create a field that labels each record according to its quarter. So if a date is 3/29/2012, I'd want the corresponding field entry to be: Q1 2012. If it's 3/29/2013, I'd want it to be: Q1 2013, etc.

I guess I would run an update query, but I don't know how to build the proper expression in order to update my table with a new field.

I have figured out how to create a quarter #, but I actually need output in the format mentioned above.

Modules & VBA :: Construct A Query With Number Of DCounts For Summary Report

Dec 16, 2014

I am trying to construct a query with a number of DCounts for a summary report, and each of those counts is to have more than one criteria. So far, the code below is an example of the code, which returns #Error in five rows

Code:
DCount("[ID]","Attendance","[Absent]= True & " And [Date]=" Between [Forms]![DateSelect]![txtStartDate] And [Forms]![DateSelect]![txtEndDate]")

I have a feeling that it is the criteria for the date that I have got wrong, but I cannot see the wood for the trees at the moment. If it makes any difference, all of the DCounts will refer to one table and will all be within the same date range.

Queries :: Using Jet SQL To Create Numbered Hierarchy In Access Table

Oct 24, 2013

I am trying to create a named hierarchy based off a table from an Oil & Gas Program ARIES. The code below is as far as I could get:

Code:
SELECT dbo_AC_ECONOMIC.PROPNUM
, dbo_AC_ECONOMIC.SEQUENCE
, dbo_AC_ECONOMIC.SECTION
, dbo_AC_ECONOMIC.QUALIFIER
, dbo_AC_ECONOMIC.KEYWORD
, dbo_AC_ECONOMIC.EXPRESSION
, (SELECT COUNT(*)

[Code] ....

The results are as such:

PROPNUM...SECTION...SEQUENCE...QUALIFIER...KEYWORD ...EXPRESSION...TEST
TEST1.......4................1.................TAG .............GTC/GAS.......03.................1
TEST1.......4................2.................TAG ............."..................22................ ..1
TEST1.......4................3.................TAG ............."..................22................ ..2
TEST1.......4................4.................TAG .............SHRINK.........1...................1
TEST1.......5................1.................TAG .............ATX...............5.................. .1
TEST1.......5................2.................TAG .............ATX...............5.................. .2
TEST2.......4................1.................TAG .............GTC/GAS.......03.................1
TEST2.......4................2.................TAG ............."..................22................ ..1

The desired Results:

PROPNUM...SECTION...SEQUENCE...QUALIFIER...KEYWORD ...EXPRESSION...TEST...KEYWORD2
TEST1.......4................1.................TAG .............GTC/GAS.......03.................1........GTC/GAS_1
TEST1.......4................2.................TAG ............."..................22................ ..2........GTC/GAS_2
TEST1.......4................3.................TAG ............."..................22................ ..3........GTC/GAS_3
TEST1.......4................4.................TAG .............SHRINK........1...................1.. .......SHRINK_1
TEST1.......5................1.................TAG .............ATX..............5................... 1........ATX_1
TEST1.......5................2.................TAG .............ATX..............5................... 1........ATX_1
TEST2.......4................1.................TAG .............GTC/GAS.......03.................1........GTC/GAS_1
TEST2.......4................2.................TAG ............."..................22................ ..2........GTC/GAS_2

First I will give background on the table and fields. Then I will explain the overall goal for creating of the TEST and KEYWORD 2 fields.

BACKGROUND
PROPNUM: UNIQUE ID
SECTION: Set of data responsible for a certain function EX: section 4 - expenses, section 5 - interest, etc.
SEQUENCE: The order of the sytanx in that propnum's section
QUALIFIER: Qualifies multiples set of syntax per section to differentiate other work (NOT REALLY IMPORTANT for the query)
KEYWORD: A specific word that the program recognizes and treates the expression according to the key word * the quotes keyword is a continuation line and represent the keyword above it*
EXPRESSION: are the variables that are treated by program according to the keyword

OVERALL GOAL: The main goal is to have a spreadsheet of variables used by the program to calculate it's end result. Which means KEYWORD & EXPRESSION by PROPNUM. THE PROBLEM is that the only way to tell that a quote keyword belongs is by having the sequence and section lined up. So my solution is to rename the quote keyword with the primary keyword and a number.
