Queries :: Search For More Than One Parameter At A Time
Aug 5, 2013
In criteria of a Query I have this SQL: Like [Forms]![FSearch].[qb1] & "*"
This SQL is to write in a textbox one parameter at a time to search in a table.I need to search for more than one parameter at a time and I have been trying to add to the SQL the operator OR or AND but does not work.
Like [Forms]![FSearch].[qb1] & "*" OR Like [Forms]![FSearch].[qb1] & "*"
Like [Forms]![FSearch].[qb1] & "*" AND Like [Forms]![FSearch].[qb1] & "*"
How can I search for more than parameters at a time?

I have 2 tables: Table A contains [ID] (and other columns) AND Table B contains [Request ID] (and other columns).
However, [Request ID] contains several number separated by comma. For example: 10, 15, 20 etc.
I created a query with parameter with : Like "*" & [ID] & "*" under [Request ID] criteria.
Here is my problem:
if [Request ID] = 44, 60 then it is returning [ID] 4 records (4, 6, 44, & 60). Is there a way to show only 2 records? 44 & 60?

I have a parameter query in which consists of a search statement as below:-
Search: [Model] & " " & [FiscalYear]
It works very well. I am wonder if there is any options available to affect the search results. As far as I understand, when I enter the key word into the pop up box, it will search the fields sequentially and populate the result. Can I enter different key word for each field? If so, what is the syntax for entering the key words.

suddenly all the old queries crash (message: enter parameter value). The table name is Exactly the same. Columns in the new table are also the same. Is there a way to "fix" the parameter value so that all the queries update at the same time.

I have a query that contains a complete_date including time (this is automatically datestamped when the user presses a button)At the end of the day, I want to show how many records where processed that day but cannot figure out how to display records between 06:00am and 08:00pm on todays date.
Also, the same applies to selecting a range of dates (eg. the full week), How do I display the records that fall between Monday - Friday including the time.

I'm having multiple problems with my database like things such as -
i'm currently working on the Query 2 - On the Phone database (ignore Query 1) and i want to search for multiple plot numbers preferably in one parameter prompt with a comma to seperate numbers. (this could be a multitude of numbers so i would like to be able to input as many as needed). Also when i do search on this query since the Criteria is a 'Between' Value i would expect everything between the 2 numbers input to show up - but a lot of numbers out of the range show up too - why is this? (The Numbers are like "69 to 136" and they will show up - but 1-69 and 136-170 would too
I would also like to implement the search results from Query 2 into the Form i currently have made but it just opens up a access table when the search is made?
i cannot link my database as it is too big for the server - But here are the Criteria for Query 2:
Plot No - (criteria = Between [Enter First Plot No:] And [Enter Last Plot No:])
Site - (criteria = Like "*" & [Enter Site:] & "*")
Product - (criteria = Like "*" & [Enter Product:] & "*"
The Query is the one im most concerned about , i can live without a form.

Hello,
I have got a serious problem with parameter searches. What I want are multiple field parameter searches in one query. I created a new query, and set the criteria to Like "*" & [...] & "*" for at least 5 fields. The problem now is, that the number of records get less the more parameter searches i create for different fields.
I tried to put the parameters into the "or" criteria but it still does not work!
please give me a hint.
Thank you!
John
PS please ask me when you did not understand my question.

Hi
I have a table in sql holding telephone data. the starttime column and endtime column are both in "10/05/2006 12:55:56" format.
I want to run a parameter query that lets me search by agent name and then by date. The agent name is no problem but when running parameter query by date it brings back no data. I think this is because the time is also in the same field as the date. Ideally I would like to be able to run the query between certain dates, e.g. find data for agent1 between 2 different dates.
Any help would be more than appreciated!!
Thanks
Ben

I have attached a (slimmed down) Access 2007 database used for Asset Management and fault reporting. It opens on the main form which has a number of subforms and one sub-subform.
To make the form as user friendly as possible I am placing a number of unbound text boxes on the FormHeader to be used for search queries. The AfterUpdate event for each text box executes the necessary query, searching on the contents of the text box.
This works absolutely fine for the 'Colloquial Name' text box and associated field - this field is in the main table, RTI_Assets. The main form frmRTI_Assets is bound to this table. The query executed is called 'Colloquial Search'.
I cannot however get the 'Fault Reference' search to work on the field Supplier_Reference in the RTI_Fault table (the subform subfrmRTI_Fault is bound to this table). The query executed is called 'Fault Reference Search'.
There are 15 records in the assets table and 2 records in the faults table - with supplier references 555 and 101010.
I get prompted with Enter Parameter Value for the field RTI_Fault.Supplier_Reference if I enter 555 in the text box. Whatever I enter in this prompt I get returned to the first record.

I have searched for bits of code to copy other people better than I, and had some success but I am failing to complete, so it is now time for me to visit you all. I am trying to open a PDF from a button on a subform. The location of the PDF is specified in a field. I want to open the PDF and search for a Member ID criteria also listed in a field on the Form.This is my code:
Code:
Private Sub Text12_Click()
Dim strPath As String
Dim Searchmem As String
strPath = [Notetxt]
Searchmem = [MemID]
[code]....
Adobe Reader reports "There was an error opening this document. The file cannot be found." but then opens the file (that's something).So it's the "search" bit that is the problem, and I cannot for the life of me get my search parameter to be used.

I have a value list combobox (cboShift) on my form with selections as "1st Shift";"2nd Shift";"3rd Shift" and a subform that should filter my records based on the shift selected on the mainform.
My data fields in my query are [TimeStart], [Time Stop], [other fields].
I would like that e.g. when "1st Shift" is selected, it should filter my records based on the [timeStart] that falls within the range, and so on.
I really don't know how to handle this, even to set the time range parameter for this...
I have written this function for a start. To continue, i ask for your help or guide. Please help????
Function fShiftWorked(strTimeStart As DateTime)
Dim strOperatorStart As String
strOperatorStart = FormatDateTime(([tblTimeLog]![timeStart]), vbLongTime)
If strOperatorStart >= #8:00:00 AM# And strOperatorStart < #5:00:00 PM# Then
strTimeStart = "1st Shift"
ElseIf strOperatorStart >= #5:00:00 PM# And strOperatorStart < #12:00:00 AM# Then
strTimeStart = "2nd Shift"
ElseIf strOperatorStart >= #12:00:00 AM# And strOperatorStart < #8:00:00 AM# Then
strTimeStart = "3rd Shift"
Else
strTimeStart = "2nd Shift"
End If
End Function

I have a Main form, and a subform which lists client details. On the Main form I have an unbound field. I want to be able to type a word into this unbound field and have it display all company names that have this word in them. ie. I type "Ltd" into the unbound field and it displays all companies with "Ltd" in the title.
I have created a query that does exactly this (Like ("*" & [Enter Word] & "*")), it displays a dialog box and I type in "Ltd" and it displays all relevant companies.
I have tried everything I know to make this work when I use the unbound field on the Main form, but I've had no luck.

I currently have a database with a few search forms. I recently attempted to add a box on one of my search forms to search 3 cells of a record for a key word. What happens is when I go to search, say for P0442, it does not bring up all of the records that contain that keyword in the 3 cells I have outlined. If I step down the code in the OR boxes of the query, it seems to work better but then for some reason my other search criteria , (Tracking number etc) does not work. I will upload the database for reference. I am currently working on the Search(View Only) and that is where you will find the query to work on.

I have a search form that uses a query to show results of a search, but everytime I press search everything comes up even though I have entered search parameters, even though my search requeries every time and the search used to work before I added new records today. Also when I press the query alone on the navigation pane it asks me for the parameters and then it actually works but it won't when I use my form.

I have a bit of an odd request. I won't be using normal dates and times, it's a military way for date and time, called a Date Time Group (DTG). It looks like this: 052337Z APR 06
The first two characters (05) represent the day of the month. The next four characters (2337) represent the time. The sixth character (Z) stands for Zulu, which is what we call the format of the time. The next three characters (APR) is the month abbreviation and finally (06) is the current year. Zulu time is obviously a 24 hour clock and it is always GMT...no daylight savings, etc...
I need some ideas on how I can store this in the database and search it as if it were an actual date, so I could get all records between two certain dates, for example. I'm not quite sure on how I would go about doing this.
A couple things I thought of maybe doing is when the user enters the criteria, converting the DTG they enter into local time and have the values in the database stored as local time. Not sure how to do that. Second I thought maybe storing each part of the DTG individually and then searching that way. Any help appreciated.

I would like to make an Access database for my collection of scientific papers. From that database I should be able to find articles using descriptive keywords. The problem is I haven’t figured out how I could search for the articles needed using multiple keywords at the same time (eg. papers that fill the criteria: <keyword a> AND <keyword b> AND <keyword c>).
What kind of tables and queries I have to create to do that?
Thanks,

I've created a search on a text and date field which has been working fine for few days now. However when I've started to search on the early days in February (i.e. 01/02/2005) it is not finding the records (but they do exist). When I create a record with 13/02/2005 or higher however it does find the record. I desperately need a solution as the DB will fall down without it.
The code I'm using is:
If Not IsNothing(Me.TxtEmpNameSearch) Then
VarWhere = (VarWhere + " AND ") & "[EmpName] ='" & Me.TxtEmpNameSearch & "'"
End If
If Not IsNothing(Me.TxtDateSearch) Then
VarWhere = (VarWhere + " AND ") & "[Dates] =#" & Me.TxtDateSearch & "#"
End If
If IsNothing(DLookup("txtempno", "tblwork", VarWhere)) Then
MsgBox Mes5, OKIn, Ti
End
Exit Sub
End If
Thanks,

I am trying to create an Access database where I can let the employees enter their time-in and time-out, at the end of their shift. I already created this function working, but running into another issue. Everyday, employees need to enter a break. Sometimes they take a break and sometimes they don't, if they work shorter hours. Thus, the break is not a default 30min and has to be enterd by the employee.
Below is the code I have to calculate the total hour:
txtCalcTime has the below code in control source:
=Int([CalcTime]/60) & ":" & Int([CalcTime] Mod 60)
Control source for this form "FrmTimes" property, in which Txtcalctime resides:
QryTimes
"QryTimes" query has the code below:
SELECT TimeID, TimeIn, TimeOut, Brake, DateID, DateDiff("n",[TimeIn],[TimeOut]) AS CalcTime
FROM EmpTimes;
This shows the total number of hours worked. But how can I make it to substract the break time entered by the employee in "txtbreak" on FrmTimes

I need a Select Query to display data on a form. When an order is appended to my table the field named Printed is updated with the time it was appended. When my form opens it needs to display the field Printed and a field I call MinutesFromPrint. This field needs to display the total minutes elapsed from the time in the Printed field to the current time. My expression is not working.
MinutesFromPrint: DateDiff("n",[Printed],Now())
Here are a couple of samples of my results when I run the query at 7:49 A.M.:
Printed MinutesFromPrint
2:35 60366554
5:07 60366402

I have 5 queries that I am running. The first query has the date range parameters set in the field area that I need to run and each additional create table query is based off the results of the previous query.
1. Which is better to use to run all of the queries in one simple step? A macro or a form? I am exporting the final table to excel so that I can make some additional adjustments off of it.
2. How would I setup the date range parameters for the first query if I were to use a macro without going into the query itself and updating the date field? I tried setting up a macro to run the queries by using the OpenQuery action for each of the 5 queries, but I cannot figure out how to do the date range.

I'm getting a Run-time error 2295: Unknown Message Recepients.
I've got a DB of about 2000 clients. In testing I did a test DB with 50 random
clients. Using any search criteria, it would grab those clients and open a new email
with their email addresses no problem.
However when I do this same thing with my complete DB of 2000 clients, I get this run
time error.
I'm pretty confused here, and anxious. It looks like the program is working, I just need it
to run with all my clients. This is the last thing I must conquer to be finished with this project.

I am attempting to create a search form where a user can search by either employee name or company name. I have 5 tables to use. Is there a simple way of creating a search method for this? I would like to be able to have the user type in a name and click a button that says search with any records matching the search come up. However, I could definitely use a method where they type it in a box and it finds it as the person types.
How to search from all five tables at the same time.
