Queries :: Unable To Import Tables From FoxPro Database Using VBA Code
Apr 22, 2013
I'm trying to import a few tables from a FoxPro database into an Access Database using VBA code. I know I have done it before and I remember struggling with the format last time.
I have two databases. One is 'live', one is for development. Once i get something working in the latter, I import it into the former. This has been working fine for just over two months.
Today, however, i'm trying to import a form and get one of the following messages:
First I was thinking to write a little app in Access to work with a DBF file, that I assumed was a DBIII database. It was exported via a 3rd party software, and the primary interface up until this point has been Visual FoxPro. My problem is two fold: 1st: When I tried to import it as a dBase III file, Access just closed. I mean, disappeared, no longer running, closed. I didn't even get an error message or anything. So I tried to import via ODBC, using a "Machine Data Source" Microsoft Visual FoxPro Database (or table, either works) and selected the directory of the dbf file and selected the table listed once it scaned the directory and all imported fine.
So: If the Visual FoxPro Machine Data source worked, though I am confused why the DBIII driver just booted me, I am now concerned as to how I would write a connection string via DAO to access that dbf file at run time.
Basically I want to go to a static location on a network and access a dbf file, and perform query manipulations upon it. My connection will be READ ONLY to the actual DBF file and i would subsequently use MS Access to create any other relevant tables/queries based on the table in the dbf file. Since the Visual FoxPro MDS diver worked, do I need to write a connection string to access it, and if so, how would I do that?
I've posted this in the 'General' forum, but without success, so I'm trying here.
I have two databases. One is 'live', one is for development. Once I get something working in the latter, I manually import it into the former (File - Get External data - Import). This has been working fine for just over two months.
Today, however, i'm trying to import a form and get one of the following messages:
"The search key was not found in any Record"
"No current record"
I'm unable to import the form. I also get the same error messages if i try to copy and paste the form within its own database.
The form in question has a lot of lengthy code behind various combo boxes, text boxes, etc. When I attempt to look at this code (via right-clicking on a field and going to Properties and the Event tab), none of it is present any more.
What's going on? This form took weeks to get working and now it can't be copied, renamed or imported, plus it appears to have been 'wiped' of everything but the visual features.
Any ideas what could be causing this? Can one form become 'corrupt'? If so, please say that there's some way to remedy it?
I have split my database in Front End och Back End, and both are password protected. The Front End has been converted to ACCDE.
When I try to import to Excel from Front End and/or Back End using database connections I receive a message telling me that I am using an invalid password (even though I use the same password when I encrypt/decrypt FE and BE). I've tried using Access import, ODBC and Microsoft Query. (In some cases I 'm also prompted to set a username, which I do not know which it should be since I haven't set one in my database (except the automatic "admin"))
I have a software which links itself to a fox pro database/tables. Now i want to link some of these free tables or database from fox pro to access. Whenever there is a slight change in the fox pro tables/databases they must reflect directly into access database. Is this possible and how?
I'm looking for some sample VBA code that dynamically creates a link to Visual FoxPro 9 table. Our group has a number of end user FoxPro applications, and as FoxPro is reaching the end of its life in January 2015, we need to replace it.
A lot of the processing we do uses tables with a date embedded in the name, e.g. MyData_20131211.dbf. We'd like to be able to let our users to use Access queries that point to these tables without having to manually create the ODBC link each day. Is there a way to set up a link once, then use VBA code to dynamically change the table it points to?
For example, we set up an ODBC link table to MyData_20131211.dbf, and rename the link table in Access to MyData_Today. Then tomorrow, the VBA code would change the link to point to MyData_20131212.dbf.
An alternative would be to dynamically recreate the link each day.
As the tables are large, we don't want to import them into Access if we don't have to.
I have been running queries and reports with data from our company database (a third-party system based on FoxPro2.6) by linking tables into MS Access 97 for years. We have now upgraded to XP and Office 2003, and suddenly I can no longer do this but get a message "Could not find installable ISAM".
I've tried to locate the required file on the Internet but no luck so far. Can anybody help me? I am currently using an old pc with Office 97 on it to run the reports, but it's in a different office location and makes the whole job very tedious. Are there any work-arounds?
i am trying to insert multiple values that i have selected in my listbox to my database access table when i click the "add record button" but the values does not appear in my database table.
i have 2 listbox, when i select the first list box(businessNature) it will display the records in the 2nd list box(lstCuisine). However, the records in the the lstCuisine list box is not entered into the table in my database.
(ps: in my property sheet for my lstCuisine listbox its multi select is simple)
Here is my codes:
Private Sub Add_Record_Click() If IsNull(Name) = True Or IsNull(Mobile) = True Or IsNull(Email) = True Or IsNull(CompanyName) = True Or IsNull(BusinessNature) = True Then MsgBox "Please fill in Business Nature, Name, Contact, Email and Company Name" Else DoCmd.GoToRecord , , acNewRec End If Dim conceptValue As String
I am trying to create a database by compiling records from multiple excel sheets. however, since most of the clients still uses the excel sheets to enter records, I am thinking if it's possible to create a linked table in access from these excel sheets that are hosted on an online server.
also is it possible to merge multiple linked tables together? if they have the same field range, so they will append when the linked tables gets updated.
I had created a database a number of months back and received. After getting halfway through and seeing some requests come through from management on what they want to see or improvements, it looks as though there will have to be some retooling done to the database like moving some fields to different tables as there is duplicate entry fields.Would you import all the tables into a new database and then append the data to where it needs to go or keep working within the one I have?
All, using access 2010 but working on a 2003 database. Trying to import a table from another database. I made a copy of a database im trying to import from a database on a production server and placed it in my development folder. When I go to import the table; it throw an error:Reserved error (-1524); there is no message for this error.why I can't import a table especially if no one is using it?
Not sure if someone has come accross this probelm but I am unable to link/import tables from excel or text files. I am able to import tables from other databases but as soon as I want to import an excel file it seems that the import wizard simply doesn't exist. re-installed office several times but to no avail. Access/office 2003 running on windows 2000 sp 4 Microsoft help is no of use.
I am also running 97 on my pc and have no problems here.
I've been making small changes here and there to my database in Access 2013. I have left the original database in place and it has acquired many new records from the last month. I'm ready to start using the newly updated design version of the database, but I do not want to have to type all those new records into the new database to get it up-to-date. There has to be a way to import the data from the original database to the newly updated one.
Most, If not all of the fields have the same names, but some of the fields have changed, like to Combo boxes. I removed two or three unneeded fields, and added two or three. I understand the new fields will need to have data enter to them, but the remaining would be redundant and inefficient if I have to reenter all the recent records again.
How do I import the data from the original two tables to the new updated database? I only have two tables and they use a One-to-One relationship in both databases. The table's names are different, but as I mentioned earlier, the fields are mostly the same. Do I need to import into Excel, and then modify the data slightly, and then import into my new database?
I have a procedure that imports excel spreadseet to access table ever today. today it failed. Forrmat was the same as yesterday.
I did 'copy/paste special/format' from yesterday's file; still today's file wouldn't import.
Tried to copy manually to the table, got the error message about 'field not being in the same format'
Went to table's design view, and changed everything to 'memo', the was able to do copy/paste. There wer no values with more then 20 characters I was able to change 'memo' back to text and date/time without loosing any date.
Has anyone ecountered this ? Going changing table, and then chaging it back doesn't sound like the best practice what can be done ? can abything be done to excel file ?
I am trying to import a series of records from Excel into a table in Access 2010. The field names in the Excel table match the field names in the Access table. The field formats are the same as well (both set to numbers).
I am receiving an "unparsable record" error for all fields in the Excel file that are being entered into fields in Access that are 'lookup' fields that allow multiple entries.
The Exel fields have been filed in with the 'numbers' that correspond to the correct 'lookup' selections. There is only one item in the excel field -> while access will allow multiple entries for the field, I for the records I'm importing I only need one.
For the fields that are 'lookup' but allow only one value the excel data is being imported and displayed correctly in Access.
Do I need to format the fields that are matching to multiple entry fields differently or in a special way?
tblSignUsedDetail is the line items, tblSignUsed is the orders. Therefore, the import function has to first take the first two columns to generate an order in tblSignUsed and then take the second two columns to generate order details associated with the order which was just created.
I have an excel spreadsheet, that has a long list of names and unique numbers (of medical lab results)
I have another folder which has many text files (the actual lab reports), each of which has a file name that corresponds to one unique number in the excel spreadsheet.
How can I import the content of the text files into a single memo field (e.g. "LabResultContent") in the original datasheet?
I want to make a database of diseases (need to learn them for school and would like a serchable database on my smart phone for future reference). Unfortunately spent a lot of time making hundreds of pages of word tables before i realized a database would be better. See attached image or pdf. Is there a way to import the tables to Access?
I need to preserve the hierarchic info in the nested bullet point lists. E.g. under treatment i might have a point called Acute treatment, with sub-levels, Step 1, Step 2, etc. with their own sub-levels. I need to maintain this relational hierarchic info.
I have an Access Table with about 28,000 Automobile dealerships across the country shown. I've joined a new/small phone contact table to this to keep up with our phone contacts with the dealership and followup efforts. When I search/filter on the dealership table all is fine. However when I search/filter on the phone contact table with a few test entries, I get nothing at all. I supposed that after joining the tables, I'd be able to do a search on the field named follow up date and find/filter today's date or other dates and locate which dealerships to contact when the correct date arrives. But nothing.
Hi. I have a db, where the main table is linked via an ODBC connection to a SQL server db. Want I would like to do is, either by code or a macro, import the information from the ODBC link , rather than "File", "Get External Data" etc etc. This way, the code or macro would run everytime the db is closed, and the information is stored in the db as a table..... just as a backup
I have tried the various "Transfer Database" with macros, but nothing seems to work
I don't know whether this would have any bearing on the answer but I do not have write permisisons on the SQL server, and it does not have a primary key.......as far as I am aware.
I have been asked to design a database to replace our old excel sheet to log one of our customers server builds. It a four noded system and i require a seperate log for each node serial models of parts etc, qa checks.
I intitial started by just using one table but forgot the limit was 255 rows, i need about 600 - 700. So my plan is now to transfer to indivial table for each node. Then, a general table named Main for all my other details.
Although this seems simple, i now have the annoying task of being able to link them all together and produce a single PDF file to send to our customer whilst only entering our system serial number once to produce this.
My basic understanding will be to create a System Serial Number field in each table a link it via relationships, but if i produce a report with everything i need would it input my details for all four nodes? If so how would i set this up?
I will be splitting the database once completed and then making a ACCDE file for my techs to use.
