Queries :: Update 5 Records At Once
May 6, 2013
I'm looking for a way to fill out 5 records in one row in a table at once. I want to update a supplier and price per unit for supplier via a form. I have price per unit 1-5 and the price will be the same for all 5 records. Is there a way to do this through append or update query and if so which is best in my situation?

I have a Sales Table with below fields, i might have not set it up in the best way possible.
Consumer, Consumer_ID, SaleDate,Prod_Sl#,Prod_Type,Sale Amount
1. I need to update the sales price for each item sold based on category of Product Type, as we are tracking the product with Serial Number.
For an instance if 2 items of Category1 with Prod_Sl# as Sl1 and Sl2 and
2 items of Category 2 with Prod_Sl# as Sl3 and Sl4 are sold.
I need to update the sales price amount for these.
2. I want to accomplish this using a query.

I have a simple Select Query based on one table.
In SQL View, the query is:
Code:
SELECT SYSADM_CUSTOMER_ORDER.ID, SYSADM_CUSTOMER_ORDER.STATUS
FROM SYSADM_CUSTOMER_ORDER
WHERE (((SYSADM_CUSTOMER_ORDER.ID) Like 'Q%') AND ((SYSADM_CUSTOMER_ORDER.STATUS)="H"));
So basically getting all records in the CUSTOMER_ORDER table that have ID beginning with Q and the STATUS is H (on hold).
I want to simply update these to change the STATUS to C (closed).
I converted the SELECT Query to an UPDATE Query and added a "C" in the Update To Field.
The SQL View is now:
Code:
UPDATE SYSADM_CUSTOMER_ORDER SET SYSADM_CUSTOMER_ORDER.STATUS = "C"
WHERE (((SYSADM_CUSTOMER_ORDER.ID) Like 'Q%') AND ((SYSADM_CUSTOMER_ORDER.STATUS)="H"));
But for some reason Access is telling me that it will update 0 records. There are over 2500 records to update.

i have an update query that looks for a product number, updates the cost, and re-calculates the price in two columns based on the salesman's margins. the problem i am having is that it seems to be hit and miss on the first run. if you run it again, it runs the calculations on all the fields. (it has to check / recalculate 16,000 rows.) should this query have vba to make it loop thru the table.
here is the basic layout of the query:
table 1 is newproductq
table 2 is Products
Field: PriceIn
Table: newproductq
Update To: [Products].[Cost]
UNITS
newproductq
[PriceIn]/((100-[Margin])/100)
PIECES
newproductq
[PriceIn]/((100-[BrokenMargin]/100)

I am building a stakeholder database in Microsoft access 2010 and I want to be able to say that a stakeholder attended an event. I have managed to do this but I can only say that one stakeholder attended an event at one time. This is quite a problem as there can be up to 800 or even more stakeholders attending an event so to go through and click each one would be very time consuming.
My current set up is I have a stakeholder table an events table and an event attendance table. It all works fine apart from only being to edit one record at a time. I have tried update queries with no success, I can attach the database but would need to remove the data for data protection reasons.

I have 2 tables that are joined by a many to many table:
tblProductInfo
- ProductID
tblProductLinerMM
- PLProductID (FK to [tblProductInfo].[ProductID])
- PLLinerID (FK to [tblLiner].[LinerID])
tblLiner
- LinerID
I have a range of products that each use 2 liners. An inner liner and an outer liner. I need to add 2 records per product to the tblProductLinerMM table.
for example
tblProductInfo has the following records:
- 2138557
- 2378954
- 4387657
tblLiner has 2 liners in particular that relate to these products:
- L5475
- L5468
I need to create the following records in tblProductLinerMM preferably with the use of a query :
- 2138557 | L5475
- 2138557 | L5468
- 2378954 | L5475
- 2378954 | L5468
- 4387657 | L5475
- 4387657 | L5468

I am trying to update and insert records with SQL statements. Below my code:
Select Case FirstGRV
Case "Y"
sql = "UPDATE Tbl_SellingPrices " & _
"SET SellingPrice = " & Me!Text2 & ", SellingPriceDateFrom = date(), SellingPriceDateTo = #" & Me!Text3 & "#" & _
"WHERE SellingPriceStockCode = Forms!Frm_GRV!GRVStockCode and SellingPriceDateFrom =#01-01-1900#;"
[Code] ....
My problem is I need to know if the execution of the SQL statement was successful or not. I use the RecordsAffected method, but it always returns 0, no matter what.

I am putting the finishing touches on a DB and have come up with a a problem which I cannot solve. I have code on my data entry form that concatenated the days and times of up to five days. That is : [Day1] & " " & "@" & " " & Format([Time1],"h:nn AM/PM") & " " & ";" and so forth for five days. It has a complicated (for me) nested IIF statement and it works fine on the form. But I have now transferred the data from an old DOS DB and I do not want to go through almost 5K records just to update three fields. When I tried to do it in an update query, it said that the string was too long for the update. My update is:
IIf([Day5] Is Not Null,[Day1] & " " & "@" & " " & Format([Time1],"h:nn AM/PM") & " " & ";" & " " & [Day2] & " " & "@" & " " & Format([Time2],"h:nn AM/PM") & " " & ";" & " " & [Day3] & " " & "@" & " " & Format([Time3],"h:nn AM/PM") & " " & ";" & " " & [Day4] & " " & "@" & " " & Format([Time4],"h:nn AM/PM") & " " & ";" & " " & [Day5] & " " & "@" & " " & Format([Time5],"h:nn AM/PM"),IIf([Day5] Is Null And [Day4] Is Not Null,[Day1] & " " & "@" & " " & Format([Time1],"h:nn AM/PM") &
[code]...
how to update the table if a field is blank without clicking through all 5K records? I have tried simple concatenation, but I usually get a lot of extra @ in the field.

I have a table with many records, using a form with an update button click event, I would like to update ALL records where the Item in the table = the Item in the form.
There are 6 checkboxes and 6 text boxes that will need to be updated, but right now I am just trying to test if i can even change one text box to keep it simple. I have tried to start by using this:
Code:
Dim mySQL As String
Dim ItemNo As String
Dim SO As String
mySQL = "UPDATE BT200 SET Part = '" & SO & "' WHERE Item = " & ItemNo
DoCmd.RunSQL mySQL
So every time i run this command button, it gives me a prompt "You are about to update 0 row(s)". Nothing gets updated at all, I am clearly missing something vital here.

I'm using an UPDATE query to update records in one table (tblMain) from another table (tblTemp)
Here is my SQL :
Quote:
UPDATE [tblMain]
INNER JOIN [tblTemp] ON [tblMain].[MainField1] = [tblTemp].[TempField1]
SET [tblMain].[MainField2] = [tblTemp].[TempField2];
I only want to update the records in tblMain which have a corresponding record in tblTemp (linked by MainField1 / TempField1)
If any record doesn't appear in tblTemp, I want tblMain to retain the existing value for that record.
However, it appears that in such situations, the record in tblMain has it's MainField2 value set to null / ZLS.
I've tried using LEFT JOIN and RIGHT JOIN and also tried WHERE clauses but the result is the same every time.

Hi Guys,
I have got a query that updates details from one table2 to table1, "Reference" is the primary key and this is what the query uses to determine which need updating.
It all works great but if table2 contains a record in "Reference" that is not in table1 i just want it to ignore it, currently it just seeems to add them.
Any suggestion guys & gals?
Many thanks

I have a table called tblCompanies. When a company acquires another company, I need a method by which the acquired company's CompanyID (PK) can be updated to the new company's CompanyID (PK). I also need to be able to update all related CompanyIDs (FKs) to the new value in related tables.
In cases in which the new company does not have an existing record, there is no problem: the company name simply gets changed to the new company and the existing CompanyID is maintained. I then use an audit table and Track Changes function to keep track of the company name data and a union query to keep the old names in the selection lists.
The problem is when both companies already have existing records in the table.
So, let's say I have records for Company A and Company B. Company A merges with Company B and Company B is now the main record. What is the best, simplest and easiest way to update the CompanyID (PK) from A to B and change the CompanyID (FK) to the new value in all related tables?
I am envisioning a pop-up form that directs the user to select the new company and then an update query happens behind the scenes... but exactly how does the criteria for the update query get selected and how do all the related tables get updated? My vba skills are pretty basic, will I need extensive coding to do something like this?

I am trying to stop access displaying the "You are about Update 1 Record" etc message when i run an update query. I know i can do this in Tools/Options screen but the problem is that the database is going to be used by multiple users, and rather than changing each persons Action query option I was wondering whether there is something i can put in to the code Globally to halt the message.
Any help would be appreciated.

This is a very simple problem most likely for the masses, but I am new to access. I have employees who enter will enter information about specific tests on electronics components into separate tables by a form. I know my method is poor, but this is how it works. I got assigned this database at my internship this summer because they ran out of thigns for me to do.....I've never even used access before, so as long as it works, they're happy. I have a form which which writes to a first table with 20 fields. I then have separate update queries which take the data in the first table and put it in all the other tables. Trust me, i know this is pretty much the opposite of the whole point of a relational database, but I am and was limited by time, for the size of the database they want, there was no time to learn about normalization etc etc. Sorry this is wordy, but THE QUESTION is......if they run multiple tests wtih the same information for some of the fields I have fields named "Run#, Unit#, Date" etc, even if there is records wtih the same information, hwo do i get it all to show. Right now, it seems to be rewriting over the same records. If they run 3 tests on unit 10 on August 1st, how do i get it so all those show up. I think its somethign wtih in the table, for the primary keys, changing the Index: No, Yes(Duplicates) Yes(No Duplicates) but I could be way off. Thanks, if the question doesnt make sense i'll try to rephrase it, I apologize I'm running on about 45 min of sleep:confused:

I'm using Microsoft Access 2010. I want to create a database that people without Microsoft Access can use. If I create a database is it possible to use VBA in Excel to update a table in Access and then run/export a query? I know you can use Excel to communicate with MS Access but can you do it when you don't have MS Access installed on your computer?
I have daily sales data that I want someone without MS Access to be able to load into the database and then export a query from.

In my simple database (attached), I need to mass duplicate Tasks and their Notes.
I have three tables: tbTasks (PK: Task_ID), tbNotes (PK: Note_ID), jtbTaskNotes (FKs: Task_ID and Note_ID). jtbTaskNotes is my many-to-many junction table that ties Tasks to Notes.
The main form (fmTasks), bound to tbTasks, has a subform (sbfm_TaskNotes) that displays notes associated with each Task. On themain form, you select which Tasks you want duplicated via a checkbox. The append query (quCopyTasks) will duplicate all tasks that have the checkbox checked. All good there. However, I can't figure out how to also duplicate each task's Notes.
I found Allen Browne's solution [URL] ....., but that only handles duplication of one record at a time, whereas I need to duplicate many records at a time (sometimes 10+ records). How do I go about duplicating multiple Tasks and their associated Notes?
Before you ask "why are you duplicating records?": There are times when tasks need to be re-accomplished and therefore need to have a new record. It's easier to duplicate records than it is to hand-jam everything again.

Erm, I know this sound a bit silly....but I woudered if there was a way of adding anew record to a table using vb code?
My table is called tblTransmissions
The fields are
TransmissionCode, AutoNumber
TransmissionDate, Date/Time
TransmissionTime, Date/Time
TransmissionStatus / Text
TransactionCode / Number (Linked to another table by One-To-Many)
When I hit a command button, I would like to update the recordset by firstly adding a new record. Then set Date & Time to Now, Then TransmissionStatus to a control on a form, same with the Transaction Code.
Normally I would place the values on a form and update the values that way, but just wondered if this was possible!
Thanks

I am chasing a quick solution to what I am sure is a simple thing.
In my database I have a table of items that have to be held for different periods of time (one item type kept for 5 years, another for 3 etc). In another table, linked to the first through the item type, I have dates entered against records which, using the first table, will calculate the date I can get rid of the item.
My problem is that the period of time for some items to be held has now changed, and I want to change all the relevant records to update to the correct disposal date.
I have tried just changing the period items are held for (in the form), and that will provide the correct date for future records, however I want to refresh the old records as well so they are all correct.
Is there an easy way to achieve this without going through each individual record.

Hello all...
What I am doing is attempting to update a table through a form. I have been reading up on update queries, but I am not quite understanding how to use them. I have a table containing consumables that we constantly issue and receive. I have a form for each of these functions. Example: I order two ink cartridges from a vendor through a purchase order. When they arrive, I would like to enter the qty. I am receiving, then have it automatically add it to the table value. I don't know where to implement the arithmetic. Also, for PO's with multiple items, what's the best way to update the table with those?
Thanks in advance...

The problem is I removed my primary key (if you can even use a primary key for this) and there's no record number option on the query. I just need 800, it doesn't matter which 800.
I was thinking of adding a field with a series of unique identifiers, but I don't know how to autofill sequentially.

Hello -
I have a couple questions I hope that you can help me with. I have an asp page that is retrieving a bunch of records from an Access Database based on a field value (in my case its based on Department). They are then placed in a table format in the asp page. The user can then modify one or many records. Everything was working fine and then we upgraded our IIS Service from IIS5 to IIS6. Once we did that I started getting errors. I was able to update certain departments and not others. This told me the code was good and that the database permissions etc were good. It has to do specifically with the value or similar. I looked further and came to realize that it appears there were to many records to update. The Departments with a few records updated fine. THe ones with 500-1000 were erroring out. I went into the database and deleted the records from 1000 to 500 and everything works.
Does anyone know if there is a record limit to update?
Is there a function on ASP that I can use like Me.Dirty that will search first for updates and then just update the single record?
Is this a result of IIS6?
Here is a bit of my code: This is the area that it is bombing out on....I am not an expert and believe I might have hit an ARRAY size limit. Does that make sense?
Is there an ARRAY size limit?
THanks in Advance
arr_ids = Split(Request.Form("Auto"),",")
