Queries :: Update Several Fields All At Once In One Single Query

May 23, 2014

I am trying to update several fields all at once in one single query. Also, I can only use the Design View (No SQL)

The weirdest thing keeps happening though: The more fields I enter to get updated, the less rows get updated.

For example,

When I have only one field that gets updated and I click "run" the window pops up saying I'm about to update 9 rows. It asks me if I'm sure I want to update those records so I say "no".....

Then, I add in another field and click "run" and the window pops up daying I'm about to update 8 rows. When it asks me if I'm sure I want to update those records, again I say "no"......

Then, I add in another field and this time it says 7 rows..... and the trend goes on and on until it says I'm going to update 0 rows.

I have about 15 fields I need to update all at once. I don't get why its not letting me update them simultaneously.

How Do I Update A Subform Fields From A Single Query?

Feb 20, 2005

I have a subform with two fields whose record source is a Query ("subquery")

Code in the query is as follows:

"SELECT Sum(capital) AS cq1
FROM capital_act WHERE (((capital_act.month)='jan' Or (capital_act.month)='feb' Or (capital_act.month)='mar') And ((capital_act.projectid)=forms!frmplan!projectid)) ;"

This query updates the field cq1 in my subform. I want to add 3 other fields for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarters. For instance the second quarter field cq2 field would have the capital_act.month as 'apr' or 'may' or 'jun' and so on...

cq1 value gets updated fine. I dont know how to add the fields cq2, cq3, and cq4 on the same subform whose record source would be the same query ("subquery").

I added a second SQL statement in the same query ("subquery") for cq2 but access does not let me add it.

Can somone point me in the right direction please?

Thanks.

Tables :: Update Single Field From Multiple Fields

Nov 6, 2014

I wrote a database several years ago and recently pulled it out to give to a friend. The problem is, back then (not knowing better) I set the Employee table up with as a single field "NAME". Now, in order to make it effective, I need the Employee's name in four (4) parts (First, Middle, Last, Suffix).

I have several queries based on the "NAME" field and and would like to avoid changing all of them. I have a simple form "frmUpdateEmployees" that populates the Employee table and Name field. I was hoping to change the form and/or add a query that would be easier and more simple.

Table: Employee
Field: Name
Form: frmUpdateEmployees
Queries: 16 that depend on the table and field above.

Queries :: Update Query Peculiarity - Not All Fields Updated

Nov 18, 2013

I'm mid build on a commitments tracking (pseudo Purchase Order system) project, but seem to have run into an issue with a loop I'm building to allow users to edit commitments. The idea is that an edit form is launched, values amended and the submit button is clicked. A VB subroutine then validates the entries to ensure that the mandatory entries are included. It then writes a copy of the original values to the Archive table, before attempting to update the existing commitment with the new values..

This is working perfectly, apart from the fact that 3 fields that are "updated" are being updated to a blank value..

Code:
Private Sub CommitSubmit_Click()
Dim SQLStr, LastID, DOwner, DHeading As String
Dim ErrState, Dtype, DProperty, DTCA, DITD, DSD, DED, DSP, DRetention, DRA, DRPD, DSupplier, DDOW, DStatus, DUser, DShD As String
Dim Authcheck, Complete, ErrMsg As Boolean
Dim QDF1, QDF2 As QueryDef

Queries :: Update Query That Ignores Missing Fields?

Jul 28, 2015

I'm trying to create a single, Update Query in Access 2007 that does all of these 3 things:

Update (skipping zero-length values)
Append
Automatically handle missing Fields without showing any "Enter Parameter Value" prompts.

I've managed to accomplish the 1st & 2nd items on my own, but I'm stumped on the 3rd. In essence, what I'm looking for is a way of telling Access to automatically use a zero-length/null value for any missing Field(s) the Query encounters, so long as it does not involve manually modifying the Table beforehand. Automation is key. And that's where you guys come in.

Attached, is a diagram of the desired results applied to a set of sample Tables. And here's the SQL code for the Update Query adjusted to work with those sample Tables:

Code:
UPDATE Table_1 RIGHT JOIN Table_2 ON Table_1.ID = Table_2.ID SET Table_1.ID = NZ([Table_2].[ID],[Table_1].[ID]), Table_1.Company = NZ([Table_2].[Company],[Table_1].[Company]), Table_1.Address = NZ([Table_2].[Address],[Table_1].[Address]), Table_1.Phone = NZ([Table_2].[Phone],[Table_1].[Phone]);

Using Criteria To Update Fields In A Update Query

Nov 29, 2006

Ok, i have a question about update queries.I have two tables (I'll call table 1 and table two for simplicity) and an update query. I want to get some data from table one to table two (via an update query). But in table two there is a field that isn't in table one but i want to add a value to that field via the query. My question is, can i manually put into the query what data to add to a field instead of/aswell as using data from other tables.I hope you understood my questions.Cheers

Queries :: Creating Query With Single Line Per Employee

Mar 28, 2013

I currently have a database that has the following tables:

t_Employees
t_Cost_Centers
t_Changes

The [t_Changes] tracks what cost centers the employee is in with a start date and end date:

Change_ID
Employee_ID
Cost_Center_ID
Start_Date
End_Date

I want to run a query that will show a single line per employee, and different columns for each of the cost centers the employee was in. If the employee was in 3 different cost centers, the query would have 4 columns (1 for the employee, 1 for the first cost center, 1 for the second cost center, 3 for third cost center).

I saw another thread to linked to a concatenate example by Allen Browne, but that places multiple values in a single cell. I want different columns per cost center.

Queries :: Append And Delete Query - Single Records

Mar 27, 2013

I am creating a database where the records of individual students are to be moved to different table depending on where they are in the graduation process. In order to do this, the secretary will enter the student in the "90 Hr Request" table (think of it as the first step), and move them down the line of tables (4 in total) until the final "Completed" table. Each table in the progression has more and more fields. However, a student (with their ID number as the primary key) can only be in one table at a time.

I understand this does not sound like a traditional database, as the data is not normalized. However, this is being used more as a filing system than anything else. Their data is primarily paper based (for legality reasons), but wishes to keep it organized in a database so they can run queries and print reports.

Currently, I am creating a macro that will run specific queries (in an order). I have made an append query that will move the records over, then I used a update (to null) and delete query combo to delete the old individual record. I made the delete + update query work by using a selected criteria.

How to make the append query move only one student's record at a time.

Queries :: Query To Show As A Single Line Item

Apr 8, 2013

Access Database in which i download the table from an Excel file.I am looking to create a query with certain criteria but did not have any luck recently.

1) I will need the query to show <Short code> that are only unquie to Korea. That means shortcode with a count of 1 belonging to Korea only.

2) I will need the query to show as a single line item <Shortcode> that appears two times under the country Korea. For example short code CB01406 is shown as two rows, i will like it to only show as a single row.

3) For all other shortcodes which exist in China as well as in Korea or China only. I will like them to be hidden in the query. That means not shown at all.

Queries :: Run Multiple Expressions On The Same Data Field In A Single Query?

May 11, 2014

I am trying, and failing quite spectacularly to create a single query that will contain multiple expressions on the same field.

Please see attached jpg for example.

SQL: SELECT Count(StockData.status) AS FaultyPCs
FROM StockData
HAVING (([StockData].[Status] In ("Waiting Repair") And [StockData].[DeviceType] In ("Thick PC")));

What I want to be able to do is then add additional expressions to filter and count in the same way for "Thin PC" "Thin Laptops" "Thick Laptops" and so on.

But when I add one of these expressions to the next column in the builder, it seems to apply itself to the expression to it's left, causing that one to now give a result of 0.

Is there a way of separating one from another or do I have to create a separate query for each expression and then use another query to pull them all together (as I have done in another situations - but this will involve creating probably 20 separate queries.

Queries :: Multiple Combo Boxes In Single Query Criteria

Nov 20, 2013

I managed to get separate combo boxes to filter out results on a query, however now I have a slightly different problem.

I managed to get the combo boxes to filter records in different query criteria, i.e criteria A for field A, criteria B for field B, etc.

Now I would like to have several combo box filters in one criteria field, however no matter how much I try to move the code about, they either filter out nothing at all, or show up blank records as they're filtering one after the other, i.e filter for A, and then B, which clearly won't work as there will be no B if you've already filtered for A.

The code I'm using in each criteria box is;

Like "*" & [Forms]![MyForm]![Combo1] & "*"

and this works as a single criteria in a single field.

Queries :: Counting Multiple Dates In A Single Query Field

Feb 8, 2015

I'm creating a database for my wife to use in her work, one of the fields is dates visited and the user should enter "00/00/0000, 11/11/1111, 22/22/2222, 33/33/3333" in this format. The field is a large text format because there could be anything from 1 date to hundreds. What I need to be able to do is in my query I need to enter 2 dates and have access return a how many dates exist between those 2 date values. eg It will pop up a box asking for start date and then another asking for end date and then it has to return the count total of how many dates exist between those two date values. I don't know VB and have had only basic training in Java and C# none of which involved Access. The only way I can think of doing it is to have access count the number of commas within the date field required but I don't know the formula required assuming it can even be done.

Modules & VBA :: Sending A Single Email To A Single Record In A Query

May 15, 2014

I am trying to create a form with a button attached to each record that would allow the user to click the button and it would automatically open outlook and fill in the TO:, SUBJECT: and BODY: fields. Here is the code that I currently have:

Code:
Private Sub Command33_Click()
Dim strEmail As String
Dim strMsg As String
Dim oLook As Object
Dim oMail As Object
Set oLook = CreateObject("Outlook.Application")
Set oMail = oLook.CreateItem(0)

[code]...

There are two issues I keep running into:

1. This code opens outlook and populates all of the fields but pastes the email incorrectly. Instead of pasting just the email (email@email.com) it pastes the html tags as well (email@email.com#mailto:email@email.com#) which means that the user would have to delete everything between the #'s in order to send the email every time.

2. I currently have the email BODY pulling from a table but this obviously limits what I can do. I would like to simply encode the BODY within the VBA code. The setup I am looking for is:
one paragraph
a blank line
a hyperlink to a website
a blank line
another paragraph

Queries :: Using Query To Place Single Grand Total On Row Based On Particular Criteria?

Dec 7, 2014

I have a very simple query on an accounts form to show a running transaction history.

Identifying from the TransactionID (shown for display purposes only - normally hidden) three or four postings make up one transaction.

Using TransactionID 10 as an example, I'd like to have a sum of total [Credit]-[Debit] and have the query display on one line (either at the top of £1,429, or at the bottom of £16,995) to identify this is in fact one transaction, having three posts.

Transaction 9 will have obviously have one total, as this is a single post.

11 the same as 10, by having one total Transaction Value either at the top of the row or bottom.

Queries :: Data Integrity Report - Multiple COUNTs In Single Query

Sep 4, 2013

I need to produce a Data Integrity report that lists the users of a separate database and the count of errors that they make, separated by error type.

Currently my query displays all the users who made errors, and the total errors they made. But I don't want the total - I want to break this number down by the types of errors that are made.

I modified the SQL to make it easier to read. How can I take the below statement and make a few expressions that count up the specific values? The field I need to dissect is "Type Error" and a couple of examples of error types are "A1" and "B1"

Code:
SELECT DISTINCTROW [Errors Table].User, Count([Errors Table].[Type Error]) AS [Errors]
FROM [Errors Table] INNER JOIN [Workcenter Profiles] ON [Errors Table].PWC = [Workcenter Profiles].PWC
WHERE ((([Errors Table].[Review Status])="Error Corrected")) OR ((([Errors Table].[Review Status])="Error Not Corrected")) OR ((([Errors Table].[Review Status])="Error Not Correctable "))
GROUP BY [Errors Table].User
ORDER BY [Errors Table].User;

I've seen it done with multiple queries joined together, but I'd like to avoid that if possible...

Queries :: Update 3 Fields In Master Table

Feb 19, 2014

I'm having problems with an Update query. I have data coming in on one file that I am loading to a temp table that I want to update on another table in my database. Here is my SQL:

Queries :: Run Query Multiple Times (different Data Parameter) To Generate Single Dataset

Mar 30, 2015

I have a reasonably complex query (3 subqueries into 1 main query) which gathers data from various tables into a single dataset based on a specified date.

I now need to generate a similar dataset but across a range of dates (a month) for reporting purposes. However, I can't just adapt the query and change the parameter from a "=#<Date>#" format to a "Between #<Date1># And #<Date2>#" format

The reason being, each date has to be treated individually and has to be queried as a standalone. It's to do with the type of data I have (one-to-many relationships between tables)

So what I really need to do is run the same query multiple times, for each date in scope, then stitch all of those datasets together into one 'giant' one.

How to do that in SQL (effectively, have one query produce the dates in scope, then join that onto the other query, passing each date as the parameter - I don't even think that's possible to be honest)

The other option I can think of is to use VBA to loop through the dates in scope, then use a QueryDef object to set the parameter and read the records for each date into a Recordset object. But then I have the problem of stitching all the Recordsets together, without looping through all the fields and rows each time.

Queries :: Update Fields By Splitting Text From Other Field

Nov 28, 2014

I have one field called FULL_ADDRESS. From that field I am going to populate two other fields. One called ADD_1 and the other, ADD_2.

In the FULL_ADDRESS field I have the following text :

"BOX 2747 ROCKY MOUNTAIN HOUSE AB T4T 1L7"

I want ADD_1 updated to:

"BOX 2747 ROCKY MOUNTAIN HOUSE AB"

and ADD_2 updated to:

"T4T 1L7"

While I understand how to do an update if I was using a space as a reference, i.e.

Trim(Left([FULL_ADDRESS],Instrrev([FULL_ADDRESS]," ")-1))
Trim(Mid([FULL_ADDRESS],Instrrev([A]," ")+1))

I can't figure out how to skip the first space from the right, and reference to the second occurring space, so that I get "T4T 1L7" to populate the ADD_2 field, and everything to the left of "T4T 1L7" placed in the ADD_1 field.

GO2 2 456
GO2 2 789

What I'm looking to get is

Part Number Total Quantity Serial Number 1 Serial Number 2 ..
