Is there any way in which I can automate a query (or update table query) to find the next date stamp that always starts with 'DATE', and put a double return in before it (so it starts on a new line with a spare line between). This is a table with 2 fields in it, the first being a Customer Reference number, and the second being a memo field, and some of the details and dates are quite vast. As an example the following text that is currently being displayed in the memo field would be displayed as the section below.
From this:-
DATE: 13/11/2007 TIME: 2:24 PM:went to pay with CC DATE: 09/10/2006 TIME: 3:41 PM:Sent Invoice to Scott DATE: 10/10/2005 TIME: 10:22 AM:Email follow up to obtain feedback DATE: 25/10/1999 TIME: 11:18 AM:Received all documentation
To this:-
DATE: 13/11/2007 TIME: 2:24 PM:went to pay with CC
DATE: 09/10/2006 TIME: 3:41 PM:Sent Invoice to Scott
DATE: 10/10/2005 TIME: 10:22 AM:Email follow up to obtain feedback
DATE: 25/10/1999 TIME: 11:18 AM:Received all documentation

This is probably failry simple if you know what you're doing, but I don't know what I'm doing....
I have a form (Purchase Orders) and on that form there is a search button to allow the user to search the customers table by customer name. When the user clicks the search button a search form opens and the search results (customer number, first name, last name) populate a list box named "lstCustInfo". How can I set the list box double click event to return the customer number, first name and last name to the Purchase Orders form? To make it even more complex I would like to return the data in two fields: customer number and LastName, FirstName. The problem with returning the results in two fields though is that I need to be able to break it into three to save it in the customers table because the table has a place for Customer Number, First Name and Last name.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Is there a better way to do this than returning 2 fields and having to break it back into 3 to store?

Hi,
I have made a link through ODBC to a Oracle table but when I view the table through Access 2003 I don't get the same data, some postings are dubble and others are missing. The number of rows are correct and it is also possible to create reports with a correct result.
I have also created a Form to be able to add and amend posting in the Oracle table, but the result is the same as when I just view the table, missing and dubble postings.
Any idea what could be wrong?
Thanks

I'm trying to link to Oracle through ODBC...everyhting is set up, and I can connect and I can also see the tables..The problem is...there are just toooo many tables in the link window!!!....
Does anybody know how to find the right table you want faster??? Or how to limit the tables that are retrieved from Oracle to just the ones I desire?
I even set up the correct Schemas to just view the tables I want...but It won't work when linking it through ODBC!..All the tables appear over and over again... And the list is just tooo long.

I have written a few solutions in Access (using access 2007). Now I going to create a few new ones for my company. We use Oracle for our main database and was wondering what would be the advantages and disadvantages of using Oracle as my backend while Access is my front end?
Also, should I create the queries in Access or in Oracle?
finally, is there anything I need to do differently?

I am trying to write a query that will return records from multiple tables. I currently get an error suggesting I create a subquery or else I get far too many records.
The query is EditAttendanceQuery (I left it in a bit of a state). The fields I need are shown in the query. The records I need are based on the Edit AttendanceQuery (Form). I can get the records I need without the CourseNumber and Section, but it all goes downhill when I include them.

Hello,
I am an Oracle DBA with little to no Access experience so please be kind. :D
As of yesterday a frequent user of Access 2003 (11.8166.8172) SP3 reported that all columns in all rows have the value #Deleted in a number of tables linked back to an Oracle database.
I am not experiencing this problem but I have Access 2007. It is not an option for this user to upgrade.
I've discovered several issues over the web with data type issues/ characterset issues but nothing seems to fix the problem. I've tried the Oracle supplied 11g and 10g ODBC drivers. I've tried the Microsoft supplied ODBC for Oracle drivers.
None of it seems to work and I am out of ideas. Can anyone suggest anything?
The problem wasn't noticed until yesterday so it can't have been happening for long. The problem is occuring in Oracle 10.2.0.3 and 10.2.0.1 databases. There has been no change in the Oracle environment.
There was a windows update recently but we tried uninstalling that and it didn't help.
any ideas?

I have linked tables from an Oracle database.
I want to run a query to find records that have dates in a defined range.
The date field in my linked Oracle table is in the date/time format.
When I run my Access query, I only get those records that have a date (and no time) in the field.
How can I get all records, even those with a date/time entry?
Thanks!

We have an MS Access 2010 Database that uses Local Tables, External MS Access Tables, and ODBC Linked Oracle Tables (Accessed for Read Only). The unsual issue occurs with the ODBC Linked Oracle Tables.
One of the more important aspects of the project is to modify the ODBC Links to point to upgraded Oracle Database Tables. Up until today, all of the Links had been able to be remediated with a simple refresh and test.
This morning, however, it was determined that one of the Database Tables did not exist in the Schema. Instead, it was an Oracle Synonym for a Table that existed in a different Schema. We believe that we have the proper authorization for access to all of the Schemas involved, and despite this fact, MS Access was unable to link to the Table properly.

Hi
I have a query that runs off three tables: These are tbl_contacts, tbl_status, tbl_publications. All contacts have a status but not all will have a publication. The problem is that when i run the query on a status type where none of the contacts for that status have a publication it will return no results, where what I actually need is for it to just return the details of those contacts for that status. The whole query runs off a form with combo boxes.
grateful for any advice

I have made a program in Access with linked tables from oracle (ODBC).
In access when I'm going to use that tables or when I see the records on the table all the numbers with decimals shows without separators (,).
99,99 looks like 9999.
This is a big problem because I'm working with prices.
I tried to change the NSL_Language in Regedit to:
AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8ISO8859P1
from:
SPANISH_SPAIN.WE8MSWIN1252
AND it works ONLY in my computer, when I try to fix it and change the language doesn't work, and i don't know why.
PD: In addition, in the other PC's, some characters seems wrong like "" that looks like a square.

Hello,
My requirement is this...
I have to use MS Access as front end with ODBC connection to Oracle 9i
DB.
The application(forms) should be able to update, delete ,insert records into oracle tables(backend).
i have a main form, which has some unique id's and other info about the ids and the subform shows several matching id's for that unique id in main form. the user who uses this application should be able to
1) search for the unique id in the main form such that the subform displays all its matches
2) they should be able to select anyone match and say approve(there can only be one match), then that particular record should be updated in the table.IF I USE A CHECK BOX AND IF THEY CLICK ON ONE RECORD AS MATCH,HOW
DO I TAKE THAT RECORD SAY THE ID , NAME ADDRESS AND ALL DETAILS AND UPDATE THE TABLE???
similarly when they select some other record i should give option of deleting other irrelevant matches in the backend table.
the main form and the subform uses the same table as source.updates are to another table, i should also have to put entry into audit table about which record was deleted and which one inserted..
How should i do this?? i am new to MS access .VBA, any help would be highly appreciated!
Thanks so much!

I have a simple UDF that takes a string and returns a variant, which is an array of strings Example Input "Brick Wall" Return value would be a variant array with first element "Brick" and and second element "Wall" Now I have a table with a field of strings, and I want to make a query that returns all the results from the function, one per line.
So if my input table looks like this
[strField]
"kick the ball"
"return the pass"
my query result should looks like this
[Orig] [new]
"kick the ball" "kick"
"kick the ball" "the"
"kick the ball" "ball"
"return the pass" "return"
"return the pass" "the"
"return the pass" "pass"
Last time I had to do something like this I used VBA exclusively, with ADO objects, but I thought a query based solution would be easier.
With my current data the largest return array size my function returns is 27 elements but I wouldn't want to rely on that number being fixed.

I'm getting an error (SQL command not properly ended) but main thing is, I can't get it to recognize the ms access db.
In a nutshell...I want to query the oracle db for a number and count, then scan a number into msaccess and have it 'find' the matching number in oracle and return the count only to ms access. More comments below between the code and here are table names for both oracle and access:
ORACLE: Table name is: batch_status bs
Field names are: batch_num and Batch size
MS ACCESS: Table name is tblbatchstatus
Field names are: batchnum and idcount
CODE in PASSTHROUGH QUERY:
select batch_num,BATCH_SIZE
from batch_status bs
(this works and selects all batch numbers and sizes from oracle)
(If I say 'where batch_num = 60024 -----this works also....)
However...when I add the below part...I get errors...it can't seem to match to access database....
SELECT tblbatchstatus.Batchnum, tblbatchstatus.Idcount
FROM tblbatchstatus;
where batch_num = tblbatchstatus.batchnum
And I want to just say: where batch_num = <<<scanned batch number>>> and return the id count.

I work across a number of small venues which have art cases that can be booked for displays. I am trying to build a simple data base to report what space is available and also what art is currently being displayed. The art is usually booked by month, but sometime it can be booked for a week etc.
I have set up 3 tables
Art Inventory
Art Cases by Venue
Art Case Bookings
In the art case booking form, I have set up the start and end date but I cannot figure out how to avoid double bookings of a case? Once I have that worked out I believe I know how to build the required reports for my needs.

For some reason I cannot enter decimal values without the number rounding up or down. I've already set it to 'Number' and 'double' and have also tried 'Fixed' set to 2 decimal places. Right now the only way it works is if I set it to 'Text'. However I need to do some calculations with these values eventually.
What's strange is I have another table in the same database that is NOT rounding and is working just fine.

This is the general info that I have for the field properties:
Field Size - Double
Decimal Places - 1
Default Value - 0

I want to return the price from my transactions table for the value '1' in the ID field in this transactions table.
That would be my first field in the query. The next one would be to do a sum of the sellprice field in my 'inventory' table where the buyingID matches a value of '1'.
how to accomplish this? So far, I'm not getting the query to return anything on the relationship.

OK so here is a working query:
SELECT Assets.*
FROM Assets
WHERE (((EXISTS
(SELECT *
FROM LCAMdump
WHERE Assets.BarcodeNumber = LCAMdump.T_TAG
)) =False))
OR (((EXISTS
(SELECT *
FROM LCAMdump
WHERE ((SELECT BuildingName
FROM Building_Names
WHERE ASSETS.BuildingNameID = Building_Names.BuildingNameID)=LCAMdump.BUILDING)
)) =False))
OR (((EXISTS
(SELECT *
FROM LCAMdump
WHERE ((Assets.FLOOR)=[LCAMdump]![FLOOR])
)) =False))
OR (((EXISTS
(SELECT *
FROM LCAMdump
WHERE ((Assets.DeskLocation)=[LCAMdump]![LOCATION_SEGMENT2])
)) =False))
OR (((EXISTS
(SELECT *
FROM LCAMdump
WHERE ((Assets.BuildingLocation)=[LCAMdump]![LOCATION_SEGMENT1])
)) =False))
OR (((EXISTS
(SELECT *
FROM LCAMdump
WHERE ((SELECT FirstName
FROM Employees
WHERE Assets.EmployeeID = Employees.EmployeeID)=LCAMdump.USER_FIRST)
)) =False))
OR (((EXISTS
(SELECT *
FROM LCAMdump
WHERE ((SELECT LastName
FROM Employees
WHERE Assets.EmployeeID = Employees.EmployeeID)=LCAMdump.USER_LAST)
)) =False))
OR (((EXISTS
(SELECT *
FROM LCAMdump
WHERE ((SELECT SSO
FROM Employees
WHERE Assets.EmployeeID = Employees.EmployeeID)=LCAMdump.LOGIN_SSO)
)) =False))
OR (((EXISTS
(SELECT *
FROM LCAMdump
WHERE ((SELECT UserID
FROM Employees
WHERE Assets.EmployeeID = Employees.EmployeeID)=LCAMdump.USER_LOGIN)
)) =False));
It works great returns the correct results. But I don't need everything out of Assets. I just need a few things from there and a few things from 2 other tables.
I tried this but it now gives back over 220 repeating results.
SELECT Assets.BarcodeNumber ,
Employees.UserID ,
Building_names.BuildingName,
Assets.Floor ,
Assets.BuildingLocation ,
Assets.DeskLocation ,
Employees.FirstName ,
Employees.LastName ,
Employees.SSO
FROM Assets ,
Employees,
Building_Names
WHERE (((EXISTS
(SELECT *
FROM LCAMdump
WHERE Assets.BarcodeNumber = LCAMdump.T_TAG
)) =False))
OR (((EXISTS
(SELECT *
FROM LCAMdump
WHERE ((SELECT BuildingName
FROM Building_Names
WHERE ASSETS.BuildingNameID = Building_Names.BuildingNameID)=LCAMdump.BUILDING)
)) =False))
OR (((EXISTS
(SELECT *
FROM LCAMdump
WHERE ((Assets.FLOOR)=[LCAMdump]![FLOOR])
)) =False))
OR (((EXISTS
(SELECT *
FROM LCAMdump
WHERE ((Assets.DeskLocation)=[LCAMdump]![LOCATION_SEGMENT2])
)) =False))
OR (((EXISTS
(SELECT *
FROM LCAMdump
WHERE ((Assets.BuildingLocation)=[LCAMdump]![LOCATION_SEGMENT1])
)) =False))
OR (((EXISTS
(SELECT *
FROM LCAMdump
WHERE ((SELECT FirstName
FROM Employees
WHERE Assets.EmployeeID = Employees.EmployeeID)=LCAMdump.USER_FIRST)
)) =False))
OR (((EXISTS
(SELECT *
FROM LCAMdump
WHERE ((SELECT LastName
FROM Employees
WHERE Assets.EmployeeID = Employees.EmployeeID)=LCAMdump.USER_LAST)
)) =False))
OR (((EXISTS
(SELECT *
FROM LCAMdump
WHERE ((SELECT SSO
FROM Employees
WHERE Assets.EmployeeID = Employees.EmployeeID)=LCAMdump.LOGIN_SSO)
)) =False))
OR (((EXISTS
(SELECT *
FROM LCAMdump
WHERE ((SELECT UserID
FROM Employees
WHERE Assets.EmployeeID = Employees.EmployeeID)=LCAMdump.USER_LOGIN)
)) =False));
I am sure it something simple but I am a novice at this so please help me. :D

Hi,
Does anyone know how I can set up the following?
I have a form with a list box in it which is populated by the data from a query.
What I would like is that when a user clicks on one line of data so that the line goes black and the text goes white, I would like the code that when double clicked, will take you to a form with the record displaying the same data as the one that was in the list box.
E.g. The list box would be a work queue of outstanding post items to action and when a record is double clicked on, it takes you to another form but shows all of the data for that record as opposed to just the data in the list box query result.
Many thanks
