Query On Joining Table's Field, FROM Different Table

Mar 14, 2006

Hey guys I have a problem on creating the append-query and the new table

I want to join couple different fields from 2 COMPLETELY different table with TOTALLY DIFFERENT fields.

>>What I have right now are the following:

Table 1
Fields: meta_theme, theme, sub_theme, root, count

Table 2
Fields: meta_AG, AG, AG_description

>>What I want at the end:
A new Table 3 that contains the following information AND is a form, which when you open will have :
1.meta_theme: automatically populated with the records from table 1
2.theme: automatically populated with the records from table 2
3.AG: This column is to be filled when someone run the form, and it will be a combo box with value from the records in Table 2-AG field
4. Comments - completely new

>>could you guys help? My brain is totally in disfunction mode... :(

Breaking A Table Into Two Tables, Joining Them With A Query

Feb 17, 2006

Let's say that a table has been broken in two and I'd like to rejoin them with a query. Let's say 100 records in table1, 20 records in table 2. Here's a random example, I just made the names up off the top of my head:

PersonTable (100 records)
Person # (unique key)
Name
Address

SpouseTable (20 records)
Person # (lookup wizard to Table1, cascading edit/delete relationship, 1 to 1)
WeightOfSpouse
HeightOfSpouse

Many people aren't "married" and so have no corresponding value in the Spouse table. If I do an inner join on the two tables, on Person#, then it will cut the total # or returned records in the query to 20, to match the total in SpouseTable. Essentially, I want to append the results of SpouseTable to the end of the corresponding rows in PersonTable.

Queries :: Joining Table Without Making Another Query

Apr 30, 2014

I'm new to access. Basically I've put this formula in a field within my query(Query A):

PERIOD: [YEAR] & "-" & [Month Number]

And I want to use this newly created field "Period" to join another table (Table A) without having to create another query.

PERIOD(Query A) -> PERIOD(Table A) = Month Name (Table A)

I need the month Name from Table A but because Period(Query A) is a formula I created, I don't know any way of joining it to Table A without creating another query. Is there another way...

Queries :: Joining Unrelated Data In One Table

Dec 26, 2014

I have tried to combine data from 3 different tables (unrelated) to make a new one. However, as I understood I can not do this because these 3 tables are unrelated. In my case my 3 tables are for 3 labs' material requirements. I am planning that each lab will fill a form which directly related to there field and direct to me. That is why I intend to have separate tables for each. However, I want to create a table where I will be able to see all the requirements of different Labs altogether. This new table will be kind of Orders.

Queries :: Joining 3 Tables - Using Key From One Table To Pull Back Records From Another

Jun 29, 2013

I've got a query that uses a key from one table to pull back records from another.

My question is...

On the table with the key there is another field that I want to use to pull back data from the same table from above.

A bit more info...

Table one holds colleagues details
Table two holds records

Within table one there are 2 different fields that hold different ID's for the same colleague, currently I run two different queries to pull all data - I want to know if I can simply run one query that will return every thing?

Schedule an import or export operation

Queries :: Multi-Field Union Query (Joining Questions And Pictures Into One Report)

Apr 5, 2013

I have two tables containing (let's say for simplicity) questions and attachments (pictures). I am trying to perform a union query to join all the questions and pictures into one report, but it won't let me union the attachment because 'the multi-valued field 'TableA.Pictures' cannot be used in a union query'.

I have searched and searched for a solution (and got kind of close) but i still can't get it to work. The best I can do is union everything like below, which gives all the questions as desired, but says #Error in the pictures column:

SELECT TableA.*
FROM TableA
Union
SELECT TableB.*
FROM TableB;

(Note tables A and B have the same structure, several yes/no and open text questions as well as one attachment field. )

Tables :: Auto-populate Table Field From Calculated Field In Another Table?

Jan 15, 2015

I am creating a database to keep up with the expenses for my art business. I have a table for Vendors with a field (Mileage) for one-way mileage that I enter manually (EX: 11.8 miles). Then I have a calculated field that basically just multiplies the Mileage field times two to get total mileage to and from my house to vendor location. (Total Miles) {The reason I want to do this this way right now is because I didn't keep up with my mileage this year and I am having to look up the distance from my home to each location)

Then I have a "supplies" table where I show the date, the vendor, the item, cost, etc, and I want to add a Total Mileage field based on the calculated Total Miles field in the Vendors table that will automatically populate based on the vendor of each transaction. I just can't remember how to make this work and I know just enough SQL to be dangerous.

Tables :: Update A Field In One Table Based On Status Of A Field In Another Table

Aug 2, 2013

I have started work on a database to track the many (several hundred per annum) projects my company undertakes. A 'main' table lists projects, their fees, their key dates, their project numbers, etc. I have created another table for tasks. Each task is assigned to a project (via the project number), and may be 'open' or 'closed'. I have separated the tasks table from the projects table as there may be several different tasks for each project. It is also good to keep a record of the tasks.

I want to prepare a report from the projects table that lists projects IF they have any open tasks.

In my mind, this means 'If a task, with the corresponding project number, is open, put a 'Yes' in the 'Tasks open' field of the Projects table.'

Update OnHandQty Table Field Based On Qty Field From Another Table / Form

I have a table called Inventory (table1 - PK=INVID) that contains all inventory ID numbers and descriptions. I have another table called Inventory Transactions (table2 - FK=INVID) that gets updated through a form. When a new transaction is made in table2, I want the transaction amount to get added or subtracted to an OnHandQty field in table1. I tried having table2 (transaction table) as the main form and then table2 as the subform, but I couldn't get table2 to update.

Joining Tables With A Multi-Field PKey

Jan 5, 2005

(I know I posted this question before, but I fear it may have gotten lost in a thread so I am starting a new one)

I have created a multi-field pkey with the ModelDescription and VersionNumber fields. I did it the way that didn't require code as I could not find any online and am not versed enough in VB to do it on my own. I just highlighted both the fields and pressed the "Key" button.

My question is linking the tables. Should I just join them via the ModelDescription field? It won't let me join on both fields. Is it going to matter which field (ModelDescription vs. VersionNumber) I use to join the tables? I've never run into the need to have a multi-field pkey before.

Tables :: Pull Field From Main Table And Create A New Table With Date Stamp

Nov 4, 2014

I have a make-table query that pulls all the fields from 1 table (MainTable), and creates a new table with a date stamp based apon a form value entered (New Table = MainTableWithDate).

Currently, I setup the query to pull info from the form field like this:

DateField: [Forms]![frmmain]![DateField]

However, when the make-table query is done - all date fields are blank (all other fields are correctly created), and when I look at the new created table (mainTableWIthDate), the typeassigned to the date field is "Binary" (in the form, I've specified LongDate).

Modules & VBA :: Restrict Value In Lookup Field To Only Include Values From Table B Not In Table A?

Feb 2, 2014

I have a database that has 2 tables. Table A and Table B. Table A is my primary table. On this table I have 2 fields. The first field is a LOOKUP Field that looks up information from Table B and displays my selection in the field on Table A. Then using DLOOKUP I automatically input the information in the Second Field on Table A based upon the selection from the First Field.

This is working mostly correctly. However, the problem is, when I click on the next record in the table, it automatically changes the Second Field on that record to the same value as the record before it and continues this trend each time I click on another record. This occurs without me making a selection in the first field. If I make a selection in the first field it does change the Second Field to the Correct Value, but then the next Record has the same issue.

How do I go about fixing this so it doesn't change the value with the change of the record. Only change if I change that particular field within that 1 record?is there a way to restrict the Value's in my lookup field to only include the Values from Table B that aren't already in Table A?

Tables :: Make Calculated Field In One Table That Calculates Values From Another Table Linked By Order ID

May 13, 2015

I have what is probably a stupid question but I've been struggling with this one for a while. I have an ordering database which has an Orders table (containing Order ID, Date, Supplier etc) and an Order Line table within which I have a combo box for Product name, supplier, price, VAT rate, Line price etc. At the moment, I have the order line table as a subform within the Order form (run from the Orders table). The problem I'm having is the subtotal and total fields. At the moment these are in the Order Line table as I cannot figure out how to get these in the Orders table. In summary, can I make a calculated field in one table that calculates values from another table (linked by Order ID)?

Updating A Field In Another Table With Query

Sep 5, 2012

I have a field in table A (used as my main form) that I would like to update with a unique yet understandable name. I have created a query that takes the first few characters of two other fields and the event date and concatenates them to a unique name.

Challenge is the three fields that create the unique name are in table B.

So I tried the following in query design just to see if I could update a field in the same table

Code:
Expr1: IIf(([EVENT_TBL].[EVENT]="Jacksonville" And [EVENT_TBL].[EVENT_DATE]="4/17/2011" And [EVENT_TBL].[EVENT_TYPE]="PRE-DEPLOYMENT"),([EVENT_TBL].[EVENT_TYPDTE_ID]="PREJACK170411"))

The results were #Error# in the cells.

Queries :: Find Data In One Table And Put In Field Of Another Table Then Update

Nov 7, 2013

I have an "order details" table that needs to populate a field called "Voucher" with data from another table called "codes". The "codes" table also has a true/false field called "allocated" because once allocated the code cannot be re-used.

I am trying to work out how to automatically allocate the next unallocated code in the "codes" table to each record in the "order details" table when that order details record has a DiscountID of "92".

Order Details Table Fields and conditions/criteria:
ID - primary key
DiscountID - only when the DiscountID = 92
Voucher - only populated when Discount ID = 92

Codes table Fields and conditions/criteria:
ID - primary key
code = text field with a code like "einstein01", "einstein02"
Allocated = False

Is there a way to put the next available code into the order details record then mark that code as allocated in the codes table. Then, move on to the next order details record that has a discountID = 92, input the next unallocated code and mark that code etc. etc.

Ideally, I would like to do this to happen via an event when the Order forms button "Close" is clicked.
