Query To Find Rows With Only 5 Characters

View RepliesHow do a write a query to find those rows in a field that have only 5 characters?
View RepliesI have an address database where people have been allowed to type in any characters they want in place of just leaving a missing field blank. For instance the Zip code was not a required field (don't as me why because I don't know. It just wasn't) so over the years when the person entering the data didn't know what the zip code was they would put a ?, a 0, a 000 or a period or what ever else they could think of at the time.
I would like to add a filter in my query where I could eliminate any thing with less then a certain amount of characters.
I thought something like this would do the trick
Zip: IIf(Len([V_ZIP]<5),[V_ZIP],"0")
But I am getting a data type mismatch in criteria expression. Any ideas of what I am doing wrong?
Hi,
I hope you'll be able to help since I think it is going 2 B a tough one.
I'm looking for a code that will do the following:
I have a table (lets say customers) with a lot of names and instead of typing again and again the same name I would like to have a kind of an auto complete mechanism which will find the name from the table and use it to input it back to the table itself and if it isn't there then it will use the new name as an input, exp: in table customers I have the following names:
ACC, ABC, ABD, EFG .....
lets say I'm typing A then the ComboBox will show all the names that starts with A (e.g. ABC, ABD & ACC), if I will continue typing A=>B then only the names ABC & ABD will be shown then I can choose one of them or continue typing ABD which will cause only the name ABD to show up then I could use this as a name to input to the table or if I create a new name like ABDG then this one will be used.
I hope I didn't mess things up and explained myself correctly.
Thanks in advance
Sean
I have a table called: "tb_special_characters" with a field name [character]. In this table are values that I would like to remove from fields in another table ("tb_data", field name [Title]
The values in the "tb_special_characters" are thinks like
.
@
}
I'd like to run a query on tb_data.title that would replace any matching characters in tb_special_characters.character with nothing (I remove and close any spaces).
I am trying to find the latest date in a table where the dates are in 2 separate columns and multiple rows. (there are business reasons why there are 2 dates per row they represent different but comparable activities)
I have a table "Assessment tracker" with the following structure
Name Type
Candidate short text
Unit short text
EV1 Date Date
EV2 Date Date
My Data:
Candidate Unit EV1Date EV2 Date
TH1 10 07/05/2015 25/05/15
TH1 10 07/05/2015 07/06/15
I have a query "Candidate AC Dates" that compares the 2 dates EV1 and EV2 and outputs a 3rd column with the latest date.
Query:
PARAMETERS [Candidate Name] Value;
SELECT [Assessment Tracker].Candidate, [Assessment Tracker].Unit, [Assessment Tracker].[EV1 Date], [Assessment Tracker].[EV2 Date], Max(MaxDate([Assessment Tracker]![EV1 Date],[Assessment Tracker]![EV2 Date])) AS Achdate
FROM UnitData INNER JOIN [Assessment Tracker] ON UnitData.Unit = [Assessment Tracker].Unit
[Code]....
Output:
CandidateUnitEV1 DateEV2 DateAchdate
TH11007/05/2015 25/05/201525/05/2015
TH11007/05/2015 07/06/201507/06/2015
It does this by using a function shamelessly copied from the web somewhere...
Function Maxdate(ParamArray FieldArray() As Variant)
' Declare the two local variables.
Dim I As Integer
Dim currentVal As Date' Set the variable currentVal equal to the array of values.
currentVal = FieldArray(0)
' Cycle through each value from the row to find the largest.
[Code]....
This is working well (I think)
I then want to find the latest date for the 2 records i.e. the Max value for the Achdate.
Query:
SELECT [Candidate AC Dates].Candidate AS Expr1, [Candidate AC Dates].Unit AS Expr2, Max([Candidate AC Dates].Achdate) AS MaxOfAchdate
FROM [Candidate AC Dates]
GROUP BY [Candidate AC Dates].Candidate, [Candidate AC Dates].Unit
ORDER BY [Candidate AC Dates].Candidate, [Candidate AC Dates].Unit, Max([Candidate AC Dates].Achdate) DESC;
But this is returning
Candidate Unit MaxOfAchdate
TH1 1025/05/2015
I expect it to return
Candidate UnitMaxOfAchdate
TH1 10 07/06/2015
It looks to me like MAX is considering only the day value rather than the whole date. I suspect this is because it is considering the results of the function in the first query as a short text rather than a date field. (I've tried to force this through declaring the variables as dates but don't know where else to force this. (I am UK based hence the DD/MM/YYYY format)
Hi
I want to ask something simple but because i am new i am dont know it!!! If you try to make queries in Access, untill how many characters you can put in each query???
In MySQL I can use the LEFT(3, field_name) command, but I essentially want access to pull all records from a table where the the first three digits of a number field match those pre-selected by a form drop down.
This database is in Access 97. Is there a way to compare the first x number of digits using SQL only, or do I need to run each line through code first, and then check it (I really don't want to do that)?
example numbe rin field:
123456789
SQL checks to see if 123 matches value selected on a form.
I have this test file I am using. I want to figure out how to make a query( using the wizard or other functions are fine) . In this stream it always has Invoice Number: 385152769: I want to query to get 385152769 for every line. Is this possible?

I need to query a field for any records where this field has less that 10 characters. Any suggestions? The reason is depending on the type of customer the field can be 10 or 11 digits. IF there are less than 10 but not blank they need to be pulled for correction.
View 1 Replies View RelatedJust curious to know. When I run certain query from A SQL Table in Access, the result is what looks like japanese characters. Anyone encountered this? Is this an error(it has to be, right)? This is an an email field

i.e., answers that are 5 digits long (without knowing any of the digits)

Hello,
I have created a query using the query builder by concatenationg several fields using the expression builder. Once concatenated, the total number of characters is greater than 255, and is therefore truncated. Since this is a query field and not a table field, there must be a way around this limitation. I can't even create the query and dump the results into a memo field because the dump will still only contain 255 char.
I could probably create the query using VBA, which creates a table containg a memo field, which is then populated by a variable containing the concatenated fields, but I would like a simpler solution.
Any ideas on how I can generate a query field that contains more than 255 char? The query is used to populate a report.
Thanks in advance.

I am trying to replace a # character and all characters after in a text field.
U set up a Select query and used the following expression:
Expr1: Replace([Part Number],"[#]*","")
It doesn't change any of the records. Is this possible to do in Access 2007?
I have a field in Access 2010 called Section Number which generally holds two characters. The characters can be numbers, letters, or a combination. Examples are:
01
X1
KA
40
Sometimes this field holds three characters, such as:
01a
02b
I want to write a query that returns only the Section Numbers that contain two characters. The instances where the field holds three characters are too numerous and changeable to use a parameter that says, for example: not "01a" and not "02b"
Is there a way to write a parameter that means "not Section Numbers of three characters" or "not Section Numbers of more than 2 characters"?
I have over 270,000 records in my database with 4 fields. And for each field I need to make sure they dont go over a certain number of characters for example field1 can't go over 20. Is there a way I can make sure that they don't go over that? When I go to design view and go to the Data Type of each field I change the filed size to 20, but if something is imported into that field that is over 20 characters long will I get a message saying it won't import? Or can I write a query to check the whole field to make sure that nothing is over 20 characters?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a query that is linked to a data table. The values entered in the data table are fine and display as expected. When I run the query, the results of one of the columns show Chinese like characters instead of the actual value. But, when I filter that column by choosing 'does not contain...' the actual cell contents display. I have 2 other identical queries reading from the same table and they do not display funky.
View 3 Replies View Relatedmemo fields chopping the content when appending to another table memo field.I have a query that takes in a couple of tables and then appends the content to one larger table.In each of the smaller tables there is a memo filed that when I check it has the entire type content in above 255 without a problem.
When the query runs and appends it to the larger table the content in the memo filed is chopped down.Both tables fields are set to memo I have double checked this.I have seen some comments about unique values in the query properties but these are set to NO as advised but it still does this.
I have a current file with GBP 12.00. I wish to remove the GBP in a make table query when ran to print off.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a query that pulls a "fromdate" and a "todate" from a form, and runs a series of queries then a report. The first query is an append query. If I choose to just view the data, the two date fields in the query have chinese characters in them. There is no memo field, there is no Totals. I have reduced the query down to 3 fields: from, to, and "ticket number." Both the from and to fields are blank, until I click in one of them and 2 chinese characters appear. I have done a C&R, I have decompiled, I am completely stumped.
I imported two excel spreadsheets that I was going to have to do some quick work on (separately), call them A and B. I used A first, made the queries and the report and it worked great. Instead of redoing all of the code to look for B, I renamed A to Ax and renamed B to A. Everything broke then. I renamed them back to the original, I deleted them, nothing fixed it.
I am using an Access 2010 DB to keep track of a schedule. Essentially, at least one person needs to be signed up to work for every hour of every day in a week.
Tables:
Days with 7 records
Hours with 24 records
Workers with as many people that sign up to work the different hours
Schedule signifying the worker, day, and hour which are signed up.
As of now i have a query that relates these results and gives me a line detailing the worker/time information for the slots that are signed up for.What I'm TRYING to do is to create a query that gives me BLANK worker info when there is no one signed up for a particular hour.Currently my Schedule table has the following:
WorkerID | DayID | HourID
----------+---------+--------
1 | 5 | 12
4 | 5 | 13
16 | 5 | 15
What I'm looking to do is have this table matched up with another table (or query) that provides every combination of day/hour. When an day/hour combination is skipped, the query will be able to "fill in the blank" with a row. Like this:
WorkerID | DayID | HourID
----------+---------+--------
1 | 5 | 12
4 | 5 | 13
| | 14
16 | 5 | 15
Hi, I am totally out of my depth on this one. I have managed to find ways to solve my other problems but this one won't seem to budge.
I have one large table ALLENGPUMP which has columns of data and other columns of lookups to associated tables. What I am trying to achieve is that by selecting a value from a combo box (which contains the results of: SELECT DISTINCT ALLENGPUMP.Coupling_Order_code FROM ALLENGPUMP; ) a list box will show all of the other columns from the table (and the associated tables).
In lstOther3 and lstOther4 the columns sought are in the same table and this will produce a result of multiple rows when the Coupling_Order_Code is apparent for more than one ID, as required.
lstOther5 contains the columns with lookups and only works when the Coupling_Order_Code returns only one ID. When more than one ID is returned it no longer functions and returns nothing. The best I have so far is shown below (this is from VBA) although lstOther5 only has one of the columns I am looking up whereas there are 5 in total for the data in 5 other tables.
So, to recap, the user chooses one of the list of Coupling_Order_Codes, this returns the ID for all rows that contains the Coupling_Order_Code. From these IDs I want a list box to show the data held in all of these rows, including the lookups to the associated tables.
Dim GvarCPLG_Ord As String
Private Sub cbCPLG_Ord_AfterUpdate()
GvarCPLG_Ord = Me.cbCPLG_Ord
Me.lstOther3.RowSource = "SELECT DISTINCT ALLENGPUMP.ID, ALLENGPUMP.DRW_ID, ALLENGPUMP.FW_No, ALLENGPUMP.FLANGE_MOUNTING, ALLENGPUMP.SHAFT_DETAILS, ALLENGPUMP.SHAFT_LENGTH FROM ALLENGPUMP WHERE (((ALLENGPUMP.Coupling_Order_code)=""" & GvarCPLG_Ord & """))"
Me.lstOther3.Requery
Me.lstOther4.RowSource = "SELECT DISTINCT ALLENGPUMP.ID, ALLENGPUMP.DRW_ID, ALLENGPUMP.COUPLING_REF, ALLENGPUMP.Coupling_Order_code, ALLENGPUMP.DRAWING_No FROM ALLENGPUMP WHERE (((ALLENGPUMP.Coupling_Order_code)=""" & GvarCPLG_Ord & """))"
Me.lstOther4.Requery
Me.lstOther5.RowSource = "SELECT ALLENGPUMP.ENGMOD_ID, ENGMOD.ENGINE_Model FROM ENGMOD INNER JOIN ALLENGPUMP ON ENGMOD.ID = ALLENGPUMP.ENGMOD_ID WHERE (((ALLENGPUMP.ID) = (SELECT ALLENGPUMP.ID FROM ALLENGPUMP WHERE (((ALLENGPUMP.Coupling_Order_code)=""" & GvarCPLG_Ord & """)))))"
Me.lstOther5.Requery
End Sub
Any help at all would be very, very, very much appreciated.
Thanks, Brodie
is it possible to compare values in 2 different rows? for example if the query returns this:
1 | $5.00
2 | $6.00
3 | $20.00
4 | $30.00
i want to find out the cost difference between 1 and 2 which will be $6-$5 and then 2 and 3 which will be $20-$6 and so on. how can i make this happen in SQL? any suggestions?
Hi ,
I need to copy rows from a table to a specific location in the same table.
I suppose that it is possible to copy rows from a table to the same table
as followed :
INSERT INTO Table
SELECT * FROM Table
WHERE Condition
How can I insert into a specific location based on another condition. ?
Thanks for the help .
I've been toying with this for a few hours but I always end up with the wrong result. Hopefully an expert here can provide some insight. I have a table called colors with two columns PNAME and COLOR. There are various products and only three possible colors. E.g:
Tablename: COLORS
PNAME COLOR
-----------------------
tshirt blue
pants blue
jacket blue
jacket green
shoes green
vest black
Now what I'm trying to do is create a single query that would provide me with the count of colors in three different columns.
E.g
Blue Green Black
-----------------------
3 2 1
I can get these results easily by creating several queries and then getting the results into one query from these, but I'm trying to learn how to put together nested queries. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
