Querying For Dates From Oracle Linked Tables

May 11, 2005

I have linked tables from an Oracle database.
I want to run a query to find records that have dates in a defined range.
The date field in my linked Oracle table is in the date/time format.
When I run my Access query, I only get those records that have a date (and no time) in the field.
How can I get all records, even those with a date/time entry?

Thanks!

#Deleted When Viewing Linked Tables From Oracle

Dec 19, 2007

Hello,

I am an Oracle DBA with little to no Access experience so please be kind. :D

As of yesterday a frequent user of Access 2003 (11.8166.8172) SP3 reported that all columns in all rows have the value #Deleted in a number of tables linked back to an Oracle database.

I am not experiencing this problem but I have Access 2007. It is not an option for this user to upgrade.

I've discovered several issues over the web with data type issues/ characterset issues but nothing seems to fix the problem. I've tried the Oracle supplied 11g and 10g ODBC drivers. I've tried the Microsoft supplied ODBC for Oracle drivers.

None of it seems to work and I am out of ideas. Can anyone suggest anything?

The problem wasn't noticed until yesterday so it can't have been happening for long. The problem is occuring in Oracle 10.2.0.3 and 10.2.0.1 databases. There has been no change in the Oracle environment.

There was a windows update recently but we tried uninstalling that and it didn't help.

any ideas?

Querying SQL Linked Tables

Dec 12, 2006

Hi there,

I'm trying to query tables I have imported as 'linked tables' from a SQL database. I've built a query, but when I run the query it says 'Invalid Procedure Call'

Does anyone know why it's doing this?

Many thanks!,

Sasha.

General :: Oracle Linked Tables Decimal Error

Sep 18, 2014

I have made a program in Access with linked tables from oracle (ODBC).

In access when I'm going to use that tables or when I see the records on the table all the numbers with decimals shows without separators (,).

99,99 looks like 9999.

This is a big problem because I'm working with prices.

I tried to change the NSL_Language in Regedit to:

AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8ISO8859P1
from:
SPANISH_SPAIN.WE8MSWIN1252

AND it works ONLY in my computer, when I try to fix it and change the language doesn't work, and i don't know why.

PD: In addition, in the other PC's, some characters seems wrong like "" that looks like a square.

Access 97 + Linked Table Oracle + Autonumber

Mar 24, 2006

Hello,

I'm making a MS Access frontend for some tables on the Oracle 8 database at work. The tables are linked ofcourse.

One table has an AUTONUMBER field on the Oracle and it seems to give me trouble to insert new records.
When I try to insert a new record (leave the autonumber field blank) I get the following error: "ODBC — insert on a linked table <table> failed. (Error 3155)" followed by the error "[Microsoft][ODBC Driver for Oracle][Oracle]ORA-01722: invalid number (#1722)".

When I look at the Oracle documentation I got this:
ORA-01722 invalid number
Cause: The attempted conversion of a character string to a number failed
because the character string was not a valid numeric literal. Only numeric fields or character fields containing numeric data may be used in arithmetic functions or expressions. Only numeric fields may be added to or subtracted from dates.
Action: Check the character strings in the function or expression. Check that
they contain only numbers, a sign, a decimal point, and the character "E" or "e" and retry the operation.
I checked the INSERT statement: "INSERT INTO AFM_HV_PROP_VALUE (HV_INST_ID, HV_PROPERTY_ID, TABLE_NAME, HV_PROPERTY_VALUE) VALUES (4, 'V_TESTJE', 'hv_inst', '123465')" and everything seems to be allright. The value that's causing the error is the "4" that gets in the "HV_INST_ID"-field.
Using TOAD to execute the SQL Statement, there is no problem at all.

When I look at the table design in MS Access I see that the Autonumber field is of the type "Double". That doesn't seem right to me...

Anyone some suggestions? I'm running out of courage :s

Greetings,
Niels R.

Queries :: Querying Time Range On Linked Table Does Not Work?

May 8, 2013

I have a linked table in my access accdb file to a view on a SQL Server DB.

One of the columns is a date column, where only the time value is important, so it's stored in the default format, like 12-30-1899 12:00 AM.

In SQL Server, I can query records that fall between a certain time frame. It works in Access when written as an ADO query (that's another story), and it also works when I convert the view to a local access table.

But when I query it as a linked server, it will return everything is greater than 12-29-1899 11:59 pm, but when I try to search any date/time ranges on 12-30-1899 nothing is returned. This seems to be a bug in Access.

The reason I no longer use ADO, is that the results would not print. For some reason, when I go to print preview, Access would evaluate the query I'm passing through to SQL Server and throw a syntax error. I miss ADP.

Queries :: Querying Dates Between A Start And End Date Field

Aug 25, 2014

I have a db tracking vacation times for staff. One of the fields tracks a members vacation start and end dates. I need a way to pull a report to see who is on vacation based on Date() (today).

For example:

A record for John Doe has him start vacation 08/19/2014 and end vacation on 8/28/2014. If I wanted a report that shows who is on vacation today, 08/25/2014, using the date() function), how would I do this?

Oracle Tables

Apr 21, 2006

Hi,

I have made a link through ODBC to a Oracle table but when I view the table through Access 2003 I don't get the same data, some postings are dubble and others are missing. The number of rows are correct and it is also possible to create reports with a correct result.

I have also created a Form to be able to add and amend posting in the Oracle table, but the result is the same as when I just view the table, missing and dubble postings.

Any idea what could be wrong?

Thanks

Also, should I create the queries in Access or in Oracle?

finally, is there anything I need to do differently?

Tables :: Creating Link To Oracle Table?

Jul 25, 2014

We have an MS Access 2010 Database that uses Local Tables, External MS Access Tables, and ODBC Linked Oracle Tables (Accessed for Read Only). The unsual issue occurs with the ODBC Linked Oracle Tables.

One of the more important aspects of the project is to modify the ODBC Links to point to upgraded Oracle Database Tables. Up until today, all of the Links had been able to be remediated with a simple refresh and test.

This morning, however, it was determined that one of the Database Tables did not exist in the Schema. Instead, it was an Oracle Synonym for a Table that existed in a different Schema. We believe that we have the proper authorization for access to all of the Schemas involved, and despite this fact, MS Access was unable to link to the Table properly.

Querying From Tables Without Same Fields

Aug 11, 2005

I am new to this forum and a beginner to intermediate with Access.

I was given a database that has 3 tables with data on the capture of alligators. One from 1998-2000, one from 2001-2003 and one from 2003-present. Each of these tables has different field names because they were created by different people on different projects. I need to combine the three tables into one that pulls such data as "date", "time", "size" etc. I don't need all of the fields from all of the tables just select ones and some of the tables do not have the information that I'd need in the final table. I've read through append, update, and make-table queries and am not sure if I can even solve this problem with a query. The error messages I get refer to null values or if I do get a table it has 14000 records, which is way more than the actual number of records.

Thanks for any ideas

Updating Oracle Backend Tables From MS Access Forms(dynamically)??

Feb 13, 2007

Hello,

My requirement is this...

I have to use MS Access as front end with ODBC connection to Oracle 9i

DB.

The application(forms) should be able to update, delete ,insert records into oracle tables(backend).

i have a main form, which has some unique id's and other info about the ids and the subform shows several matching id's for that unique id in main form. the user who uses this application should be able to
1) search for the unique id in the main form such that the subform displays all its matches
2) they should be able to select anyone match and say approve(there can only be one match), then that particular record should be updated in the table.IF I USE A CHECK BOX AND IF THEY CLICK ON ONE RECORD AS MATCH,HOW
DO I TAKE THAT RECORD SAY THE ID , NAME ADDRESS AND ALL DETAILS AND UPDATE THE TABLE???
similarly when they select some other record i should give option of deleting other irrelevant matches in the backend table.

the main form and the subform uses the same table as source.updates are to another table, i should also have to put entry into audit table about which record was deleted and which one inserted..

How should i do this?? i am new to MS access .VBA, any help would be highly appreciated!

Thanks so much!

Same Criteria For Querying Two Nearly Identify Tables

Dec 22, 2005

I have two tables, which have same fields. The tables are used for keeping record of news clippings, that are clipped in two different offices. I understand that the best way to manage the database will be combining them into the same table. Yet, it's not an option for the time for some technical reasons. Each table has the same fields as follow:

Input date
issue date
headline in English
news source
category

I want to have a list of news clips from the two tables by a specific category. I will have a form, that allows user to select category as the criteria to query the two tables. I manage to do that in a single table, but how to do it for two tables. This will be very help if you can help. ideally, I can use category to query news clips as well as academic journal clips (from another table) table.

Thanks.

Querying Same Date Parameter From Multiple Tables

Apr 21, 2008

During a client's stay with our agency, they are served among multiple contracts and are placed within multiple programs. Because clients move frequently between contracts and between programs, we have separate tables which have start and end date fields. It is common for any client to have multiple listings in these two tables, but with different event dates.

I am struggling to create a query that will capture each client's most CURRENT contract AND program. In the future, I'll want to create a parameter query that will allow the end user to enter a range of dates and capture all of the contract and program movement during a period of time.

Any suggestions?

Relinking Multiple Linked Tables That Are Linked To Different Databases

Feb 2, 2012

I have a database with a number of linked tables that are linked to tables in different databases (not a back-end).for example, I have table1 that is linked to table1 in K:databasedb1.mdb.table2 linked to table2 in S:datadata.mdb.and so on...

However, recently we have moved all our databases to a new location.

K:databasedb1.mdb is now residing in O:masterdatabase
and S:datadata.mdb is now residing in O:masterdata
and so on...

I'm now in charge of relinking all those tables to point to the new location.I would do this in linked table manager one by one but we have 100s of tables linked to multiple different databases in different location.is there a way to create a VBA code that will automatically do this re-linking process?

so,
1. find unlinkable tables
2. search its new location under O:master
3. re-link it to the new location

Database names and tables names have not been changed. Just the location of databases.
