Recording Weight Loss

Mar 3, 2007

My wife is slimming, I would like to record weekly results.

How do I make a new entry compare with her ideal weight and flag up her progress.

e.g. ideal weight =10 entry 1 13 entry 2 12.9 etc

Can I get the cell holding the new entry to refer to the ideal weight and flag up the difference each time I update the weight for the new week?

BIll Of Material Weight

Nov 25, 2005

What is the usual way to store the weight in a Bill of material database? Do you store the weight for each assembly and each component or only the weight of the smallest components (where the weight of each assembly is calculated by adding the weight of each component)?
The way my table is set up just now only the weight of the cast component and screws are recorded and no values are recorded for the assemblies, I just want to make sure that this set up is apropriate as I wouldn't like to redesign my table once the system is up and running.

What could be causing this?

Queries :: IIF Statement Query - Pull Information From A Table Based On Specified Weight

Aug 4, 2015

I am having a problem to get my query to run properly. I have a huge IIf statement that doesn't seem to be working but I am not sure what is wrong with it. What it is supposed to do is return a good, actionable, or poor based on a specified weight and an actual weight. So what the query does is pull information from a table based on the specified weight and then using that information it should give back the correct rating in the last column.

Here are the conditions:

Poor:
AW(Actionable Weight)<Lower Actionable Weight
AW> Upper Actionable Weight

Actionable:
Lower Actionable<AW<Lower Acceptable
Upper Acceptable<AW< Upper Actionable

Good:
Lower Acceptable<AW<Upper Acceptable

The lower acceptable, actionable, and upper acceptable, actionable are different numbers based on the specified weight entered.

Here is the IIf Statement I currently have and I wasnt sure if order mattered or what I was doing wrong..

Rating: IIf([LOWER ACTOINABLE]<[Actual Weight]<[LOWER ACCEPTABLE],"Actionable",(IIf([LOWER ACCEPTABLE]<[Actual Weight]<[UPPER ACCEPTABLE],"Good",(IIf([UPPER ACCEPTABLE]<[Actual Weight]<[UPPER ACTIONABLE],"Actionable","Poor")))))

Loss Of Primary Key When Importing Csv File

Apr 3, 2006

Loss of Primary Key when importing csv file

Hi All,

We are submitting an Access db table with ID as primary key to an outside company for processing. We export it as csv file and that's how it comes back.

After importing it back, we noticed that our IDs, which previously had 'gaps' as a result of deleted records, had been changed in to a new continuous sequence (Autonumbered). This, of course, completely destroys our database since related tables depend on IDs being unchangeable.

We ***suspect*** that the IDs are being destroyed during the process of re-importing the csv file. We are using the Access import wizzard.

Access msg: "Access recommends that you define a Primary Key for your new table". We then are given the following options:

1Let Access ADD primary key
2Choose my own primary key
3No primary key

During Option 1, the ID column is displayed and high-lighted. But we do NOT want that option since it offers to ADD a primary key, whereas we already have one (ID). At most, we want to 'declare' or 'define' a primary key, but we do not want Access to ADD one.

So we try Option 2, hoping that this will give us the chance to CHOOSE ID as our primary key. But the moment we select that option, the ID column disappears. We are not given the chance to select ID as our primary key.

So we try Option 3, hoping to re-instate ID as primary key as soon as we have an Access table again. But the moment we select this option, the ID column disappears.

-----------------------

If we GO THROUGH with Option 1, we notice that Access has renumbered our ID, the IDs of all our 'deleted' records have been re-assigned. Or so it appears.

If we GO THROUGH with Option 3, the resulting table does not contain an ID column at all.

Of course, the damage may have been done by the outside company which processed our file, but if so, we have to prove it, and we have to take measures to avoid it.

Any comments and advice?

Thanks.

Adrian

Access Data Loss Problem

Jun 8, 2007

Hi,

I'm a network manager at a school running 5 windows server 2003 servers (3 of which are DCs) and 350 windows XP clients. Network speed and traffic is excellent and most of the time the only software used is microsoft office. Most computers run office 2003 but some have office xp.

Here are a few scenarios of the problems:

Scenario 1
A teacher looks back at some work of a student who left a year or so ago to find all work as expected however all access databases are empty (no tables, forms etc. Just blank database files)

Scenario 2
A student says they were working on an access file only moments ago and everything vanished (resulting in a blank database file). They claim the file has been there for weeks, and has had data in it for weeks. They have been working on it a number of times a week. When I look through the backups, the database file exists but is empty on every occasion.

This problem occurs over 4 ICT suites (120 computers) at random and is always a different user. There seem to be no patterns. We get the Scenario 2 problem about once or twice a month, although sometimes a lot more and sometimes a lot less.

Any ideas or comments?! (I need some response even if it's not very helpful!)

Thanks,

Jonathan

General :: Data Loss During Network Interruption

Aug 10, 2012

I have a A2007 database that is split to a shared server that is experiencing unidentified network problems. While working in the front-end users receive the following message periodically:

Quote:Your network access was interrupted. To continue close the database and then open it again. If the users are working in a form including queried data, the data is lost and the file crashes. This happens even though the front-end is on the user's computer and no tables are currently being queried. My question is why must the network be stable even though the database is split and queries are not occurring? The form's record source is a table though. But even with this the record source connection is not needed until the form is closed.

Forms :: When Navigating Tabs - Preventing The Loss Of First Tab

Aug 7, 2014

First thing: I have a navigation form that leads through 5 subforms on my database. One is a data entry form, the rest are various informative forms with explanations, images and other text mainly. In this scenario, a user enters data on the first tab but doesn't finish it. The user clicks over to check up on some guidelines on the other tabs and then comes back to the first tab for find that all of the fields he entered reset and he lost everything.

Is there a way of preventing this from happening? Plan A would be for me to allow the user to switch around tabs without losing the data he or she entered into textboxes or dropdowns. Plan B would be for me to have a popup that appears when he tries to switch tabs that warns him of data loss and that he should save before moving tabs.

PS: One other thing: I have the standard Access wizard search button on my first tab that allows the user to search records. This works well, but I'd like for the search box to close immediately after a search turns up a matching record. This seems odd, but the users requested it because manually closing the search box after every search can add up to a lot of wasted time.

Modules & VBA :: Profit And Loss Graph On Monthly Basis

Sep 12, 2013

I'm trying to make a graph of Monthly profit and loss

I've got 2 tables: Invoices and Purchases.

Invoices contains the fields:

InvoiceTotal and InvoiceDate

Purchases contains the fields:

PurchaseTotal and PurchaseDate

I know I need to take one from the other to create my profit figure but what I can't figure out is how to incorporate the dates.

InvoiceDate and PurchaseDate might be different but both occurred in the same month, so I would like to sum my PurchaseTotal and InvoiceTotal during this month.

so the query I'm looking for would look like:

| Month | SumofPurchaseTotal | SumofInvoiceTotal | Profit |

I would then graph month and profit so my company could compare it's monthly performance ...

Convert Text To Number In Multivalue Table Field Without Data Loss

Oct 21, 2012

I have a multivalue text field called "Groups" that is generated through a relationship with another table called "Comments". When I set this up I left the field as a text field when it should have been a number field, and now I can't use the database with sharepoint, because the field needs to be a number field.

My Question is there a way to convert it without loosing all my data, as there are over 5000 records?

My Table with the multivalue field is called "Contacts", the field is called "Groups".

I tried update and append queries but I must be doing something wrong....

Recording Database Changes

Aug 17, 2006

Hi all
I have seen some functionality in another database and would like to add it to mine but I have no idea where to start. I was hoping someone would be able to point me in the right direction to a tutorial or sample database that could help me.
What I would like to do is record when changes are made to specific tables. For example, in a vehicle table, if the vehicle is changed from active to inactive for example, the date, the value that was changed and who did the change would be recorded somewhere. I'm guessing another table.
Can anyone point me in the right direction.
Thanks

Recording Payments

May 17, 2007

I have a database with 10 properties which I want to record details of weekly or monthy payments. I have a table for properties, one for tenants details and one called payments. I then have them on a form. I want to open the tenants form and insert a command button to open the payments form and record payments as the occur but i can only enter one - it is giving me an error message as I am duplicating a record. The tables are linked with a property reference which I have set as the primary key. I have obviously done it wrong. Can anyone advise me of a way to do this please.
Thanks Tracey

First Recording Not Importing

Apr 1, 2008

I am using access 2003. I've setup an import specification for a text file to import into a table. It's importing but leaving off the first record. When I setup the import specification, I did so as fixed width because the fields were not defining correct when I used delimited. Could it be that it's thinking that the first record include the field names? If so, how do I rectify this?
thanks

Recording User Useage

May 19, 2005

Any help most appreciated!

I have a Access 2003 database I am developing which has a table called "tbl_users" in which I have the fields:
user name(text), network id(text), status(yes/no), long on time (date/time), log on date(date/time), log off time(date/time), log off date(date/time).

When a user logs on my autoexec macro calls a prodcedure which sets that users status to "yes" or ticked and stamps the log on time and date. Is it possible to call this procedure even if they bypass the autoexec by holding down the shift key?

In reverse to this when they click the "Exit System" on the Main Menu form there is a call to a procedure which unticks there status field and stamps the log off time and date. Again, can I trigger this procedure even if they exit the database without using my "Exit System" button (ie click the "x" to close the database)?

Is there a popular way to show when records are updated, with something like a text box with Now(), please, Gurus?

Then if the Client refers to records changed on such and such a date, I can find them instantly.

Recording Time Values

Aug 3, 2006

I Have a problem in which when I create a record I wish the record to automatically record the time it was created. I have achieved this by having a timerecorded field within the table and setting its default value to time().

later on I wish another time to be recorded. This time when the user selected an option box to -1 I wish the time to be stamped into another field. I have used this event procedure to write the time to another field.

Private Sub AOGCleared_AfterUpdate()

'Update Time

If Me.AOGCleared = -1 Then
Me.TimeAOGCleared = Time()
Else
Me.TimeAOGCleared = ""

End If

End Sub

however It records the original time of creation when the obtion box is selected. Can anyone please point me in the direction of how I get access to record this later time please ?

Front End Not Recording Information In Back End

Jan 16, 2008

I have a database that I built as one large database, then used a method I found on here to creat 2 brand new databases and copy the tables from the original to one and use it for a back end and then copy everything else to another file to use as the front end. I did this and it worked great, except that now the information being input into the forms on the front end is not being recorded into the back end. I tried relinking the tables and it still was not working. Is there a secret step I missed or something I need to fix in order to make this work properly? The way I made the front end dependent on the back end was by linking the table from the back end to the front end. I checked the object dependencies and it shows those as being correct. Any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated!!! I am truly only a novice when it comes to Access and just in the past 6 months or so have been using it regularly.

Thanks in advance.

Recording A Formula In Control Source

I am pretty new to access, and I am wondering how you record the output of a formula in control source. Here is what I have.
I am trying to find how many days are between two dates. The formula that I put in the control source in the form is =IIf([txtQSFNonQSF]<>"qsf",CalcWorkdays([earlydater],[earlydatec]),"")
but it does not record to the field datecompleted.
How do I get this to do it.

Thanks

Tables :: Recording Multiple Dates?

Apr 24, 2013

I'm creating a database and wanted to set up my table.

It is for a service with clients where we need to carry out a review every 6 months, so I need to create a way of entering a date every time a review is completed, then ideally a field that automatically totals the number of reviews that have taken place, and another field that automatically generates the date of the next review due - based on 6 months after the last review date.

Is that possible? It seems silly to keep adding fields for potential reviews as most will only have between 1-3 but in theory it could be as many as 20, which would be a lot of wasted space and fields for most people!

Problems With Recording Data In Table Through Forms

Jul 5, 2006

Hi All,

This is my first post on this forum...:)

I'm having the following problems:

I have a table with "n" fields.
Each field will constitute a form.
Each form will have a button which will open the next form.
Basically I want to record new data into the table (database) through FORMS.
What I am unable to do is to record data on the same line in the table !!!
What I have so far is that I am able to move to the next record when creating a new NCR but the rest of the data (fields) are going to overwright the first record in the table (first line).

I would attach my database here but the file size is bigger that permitted.
If someone interested I could foward it on e-mail.

My second issue is that after recording data into the table I want to be able to modify that data through a form. When a certain NCR number is choosed this will pop-up the NCR form with all fields from the table.

Any suggestions are more than welcomed.

Thanks for your help...

Mumus.
