I have a main form (stud_details) also I have a subform called (pay_det_sub).The subform is displayed on the main form.
I want to create a relationship between the stud_details and pay_det_sub, with the aid of a field on the stud_details called numhus (which is the primary key).
So that when a student with a specific numhus value is displayed it brings about the payers details on the subform.
What's the best way of doing it??? Is it necessary to have numhus value stored also in the subform table to create a relationship....
Hi. can anyone help me. I've spent the last two hours getting no where.
I have a tbl_Enquiry,tbl_EnquiryType and tbl_Questions On the main form (frm_Enquiry), depending on which enquiry type is chosen, will depend on which questions are displayed. this is a many to many relationship so I have a junction table, called tbl_TypeQuestionJunction.
The questions are displayed in a sub from when the enquiry type is selected, and this all works fine.
However, I then need to add a field where the user can write thier answers to the questions. for this I have a table tbl_QAJunction with the fields EnquiryID QuestionID and Answer
How can I get my subform to display the correct questions when the enquiry type is selected, with an answer box next to it and then pick up the EnquiryID, QuestionID and the answer and add them to the tbl_QAJunction. I just can't get a query to work.
I hope this makes sense
This has really bugged me and is stopping me completing my database. Am i going abotu this all wrong? If anyone can help, I'd be grateful I've attached a cut down version of the DB so you can see what i'm on about
I am assuming Access cannot handle Many to Many relationships very well.
I have an Account form ("MainForm") with an embedded SubForm that displays only the Account Address with suite number, street number, street name, street type. Account to Address is a Many to Many relationship. My Account form's source is tblAccount, and the SubForm is built off of a query of 3 tables -- Querying Account, LinkTable, and Address table. The link between the SubForm and the "MainForm" is done via AccountID.
My problem is, when I query for an Address (say entering a street number of 25), I want to get back all the addresses with street number of 25 AND the corresponding Accounts that have street number 25 only
What it does is return the addresses with Street Number 25 and ALL the accounts regardless of what their addresses are!
Is there a way to do this?? Can I design a form without using a SubForm in this case, ie, display the account and its many addresses? Or does Access Forms not support Many to Many Relationships? I'm thinking the link table is causing the problems here.
Please advise -- this "simple" project is becoming quite the headache!
"edit" -- I also notice this problem with a 1 to Many relationship (the "many" portion being the subform)
Hey guy im kinda new to this program so excuse me if my question is simplistic:I built a form for making Purchase orders. In the main form...a user enters a bunch of text/num info (name, address, ect)into the table. After that i have it tab to a subform..where a user can add items by line (as many as they like). All good till here: Once i go to click out of the subform...i get message "You cannot add or change a record b/c a related record is required in table 'UCT_Req'"My relationship has a 'one-to-many' link (the req number to the many line items). I have auto-numbers counting up in each table. My main problem seems to be attaching the entered line items to a specific record in the main Purchase order form...and then opening a fresh form afterwards. Any hints? Thanks folksSTeve
I have a Workorder Form that holds all the fields that apply to the entire project (payment, customer, etc).
Then I have a subform for Stock. This allows there to be several different stock items (and production information relevant to that stock) assigned to a Workorder.
I have successfully linked the two so that when a Workorder is opened, it shows any related Stock in the subform that has already been created.
The problem is new stock entries. I need it to only allow Stock additions to the current open related Workorder.
I currently have it where you can type in the WorkorderID (autonumber) on the Stock subform new entry and it will work. But I do not trust employees to type in the correct number every time they need to add stock to a Workorder. I can't release it this way.
I mean, the whole point is for the database to promote as little error as possible, right?
I am having trouble establishing a subform connection (relationship) to a main form. I am using Access 2003.
I am creating a medical record database where I already have one form / subform relationship established that works. However, I created another form where I want to indicate the Physician(s) information within the main form and his specialties within a subform. I need to use the subform because one physician can have more than one specialty.
My fields within two tables are: Doctor (Table) ID Doctor First Name (Key) Doctor Last Name (Key) Doctor Address Doctor City Doctor State Specialty (Related Field)
Doctor Specialty (Table) ID (Key) Doctor First Name Doctor Last Name Specialty (Related Field)
The problem I can’t establish the relationship. Also, when I look at my relation diagram – does each table have to relate to another? Can I have two separate relationships indicated?
I have a "Main" form called frmProjects that sports multiple tabs. One of those tabs is labelled "Milestones", into which I inserted a datasheet subform called frmSubMilestones. The table that feeds the subform is tblMilestones. I established the parent / child relationship between frmProject and frmSubMilestones, and everything is working just fine...
To summarize: frmProject as main form -> Milestones Tab on main form -> frmSubMilestones as datasheet subform on the Milestones Tab (there are other tabs that are not subforms).
I have been asked, for each milestone in the frmSubMilestones subform's datasheet, to capture the number of days spent by employees on a monthly basis. The Milestones table and the PersonDays table have a primary key and a foreign key that are similar.
To summarize: frmSubMilestones as subform -> txtAggregatePersonDays as calculated Textbox fetching data from tblPersonDays -> OnClick event -> FormLoad of frmPersonDays as datasheet PopUp form.
DoCmd.FormLoad is supplied with the usual parameters to make the PopUp form appear, filtered on the currently highlighted milestone. Everything works fine so far... well almost.
Problem 1: When I introduce new rows in the frmPersonsDays datasheet, everything seems fine at the surface, BUT the primary key of the calling form (i.e. frmSubMilestones) does not appear in the tblPersonDays table; this is normal because there is no form-based parent / child relationship between the two forms. As one might expect, I am trying, from frmPersonDays, to get the primary key value from the "parent" frmSubMilestones using the Forms collection. No dice. I surfed and surfed, tried the bang and the dot operators, drank scotch, but nothing worked. I had to add foreing keys manually in tblPersonDays to further my tests. I can't figure out how to reach any control on the calling form, which is a subform.
Problem 2: The calculated txtAggregatePersonDays on the frmSubMilestones works wonders for existing data in tblPersonDays. However, when I introduce new rows in the PopUp form, I also realized that the calculated Textbox in frmSubMilestones is not updated when I close the frmPersonDays PopUp. I have to close the PopUp form and move the cursor in the Main form (frmProjects) to refresh its associated milestones.
I have a form, frmProjects, with a continuous subform, sfrPeopleOnThisProject. They have a master-child relationship. The form shows one Project record at a time, while the subform shows all the People records for that project. This works as expected - the correct records show up in the subform as you move through the form records.
To make it easier to glance through the list of subform records (as they can sometimes be quite long), I've added a navigation combobox to the header of the subform. If I understand correctly, as the combobox is within the subform, it should obey the master-child relationship: it should only show the subform records associated with the main form's current record. It does not. Instead, the combo box collects *all* of the records from the table that the subform is based on. So, choose the record for Project 1 in the main form. Up pops the 2 people on Project 1, but the combo box lists both the 2 people on Project 1 and the 3 people on Project 2.
The row source for the subform combo box is:
SELECT tblPersonOnProject.PersonOnProjectID, tblPerson.Fullname FROM tblPersonOnProject INNER JOIN tblPerson ON tblPersonOnProject.PersonFK=tblPerson.PersonID ORDER BY Fullname;
I can make the combo box perform as required by adding "WHERE Project=Forms!frmProject!ProjectID" to the row source and placing a hidden textbox on the main form for ProjectID (the autogenerated primary key) to sit. Have I misunderstood the point of the master-child relationship in the subform? This hidden textbox thing can't be correct.
I am wandering if anyone can help me here. I have a form which is linked to a table called tbl_File. Within in this form & tbl_File there is a field called Country_Code. In the Country_Code field the user places a number that corresponds to their country they want.
Now Country_Code & the corresponding country is defined in a seperate table called tbl_CountryCodes.
What I would like to do is in my form once the user has inputed a number in the Country_Code field (it will be a combo box), a label or textbox in the SAME form will then do a search of the corresponding Country name in tbl_CountryCodes and then display it to the user.
how to best implement a form for this very simple database (attached). I have a database that keeps track of just first names and colors. Not every first name needs a color assigned to it, and vice versa.
I want my continuous form (fmFirstColor) to show all first name records and have a drop-down to assign a color for each record individually. That's it -- two fields. With this form, I want to be able to create new first name records with or without colors assigned to them, and I want to be able to edit first names and change what colors are assigned for each name.
Again, very simple and small database, but I'm not sure where to run with this. I want to keep everything normalized and within best practice procedures. Is the junction table necessary or can it even be used in this instance?
I used the Control Wizard to create a macro on a command button to do record navigation i.e. go to First, Next, Previous and last record. The macro code, in the macro editor, is inserted on a command button on the form, asks whether it is a table, query form etc. I chose form and entered the form name but the error says the form needs to be open before I can run the macro. This happens when I open the form from a Navigation Control and Click the button containing the Macro code on the form.
Folks, i open my relationship window from a form and i after hide its visibility using the code below. DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdRelationships Forms![frmRelations].Visible = False I need to open the hidden form after clicking on the close(x) button of the relationship window. Are there any ideas please.
First of all, I want to say Thank you to everyone in this forum I have been reading just about every question in each Topic and I have pick up a lot more than I tough I knew. [Thank you]! I not sure how to ask this question or better yet write it. Here is my Situation I work for the NAVY as an Enlisted Personnel station in (New Orleans, LA) I have created a few databases for my workcenter and were simple enough that I managed. Now, I been task to help create a Call Center DataBase to keep track of Phone Calls and Issues the Agents(Employer received Daily) As well run other reports.
I am Including a copy of what I done so far. Can someone advise me about my Database Design? Does it makes sense? Are the Relationship seen good? my frmCustomer is based on query (qSupport) I would like to know if the form and the SubForm are set up ok where I can have the Agents input data. And one more thing on the frmMenu I have a few Text Boxes where I would like to display the total Amouth of Phone Calls received - as well the ones pending and Close? Any Criticism or Suggestion are more than welcome.
I hope my Question / Request makes sense. Thank you ....
Hi, I’m having a problem creating a form for easy data entry. Let me give you a little background. I have a database for a tutor program, students request a tutor for a class, and then I fill out a follow up report to find out if they are being tutored or changed their minds. Next I enter the contact information indicating the date and time of their tutoring session.
Students can be tutored in more than one class but they can only have one tutor for each class.
I have a form where I enter the tutor request info and sub forms for their classes, follow ups, and sessions. Ideally I would also like a form just to enter the session info. I want a combo box to select the tutor and then a sub form to select the tutee with a combo box which will auto fill the Subject, and Course fields, and field to enter the date and contact hrs.
I think the problem is with my relationships. I’m just kind of stuck. I think I need to create a form based on a query but I haven't done that before. Any help would be appreciated. Attached is a screen shot of my relationships and of my current form for your reference.
I have a relationship between two tables; the parent table is "Client Information" with a primary key of "Client_ID", the child table is "Event Information" and the foreign key is "Client_ID".
I know that within the Event Information table I can select which Client_ID to use as the link. I want to have that done within a form, however. I have a form for Client Information with a subform for Event Information. If I go into the table and manually set the Client_ID then everything displays fine.
How can I set the Client_ID in the subform to automatically match the Client_ID in the main form? I can only assume that these solutions require the parent/child relationship to already have been established.
Each client record is unique. A client can have 'several' routing records.
Key field in Client is 'Client ID'.
Routing table has foreign key of: Client IDFK
I created a relationship of one to many from Client table 'Client ID' to Routing table 'Client IDFK'.
I created a form for the Client table and works.
Where I am having issue is: Client data is not populating into the following Routing form.
* I want a 'Routing form' that you can lookup client info and place it into that form. * The bottom of the form will be all the routing table fields. The new routing info will be entered into it.
My client needs that form printed for the driver. Client will have many routing forms(records) but only one client record. The driver will have one completed form for each time he picks up client.
I've been tasked with creating an Access database..We have a main table that includes information found on every lease, however there are 3 leases types. Each which lead to another table or two. Basically, I want to create a form that allows me to link the main table with the corresponding variable tables.
I have a main form that has two subforms, subform1 and subform2, both connected to the main form. When I enter data into a field in subform1 I want subform2 to requery and update to show the calculated results from the new or changed data in subform1.
I found that if I do a refresh it works when changing the data but not when entering a new line of data in subform1. I tried some code in the after update field of on subform1, but cannot seem to get anything to work.
Me.[subform2].Form.Requery
Does not work. It errors and says it cannot recognize subform2 as a field. I have tried a field name on subform2 but I still got the same error.
My db has 4 tables and forms Table/Form 1 contains customer information: ID, Name, Address and Contact Numbers Table/Form 2 contains vehicle information: ID, Vehicle Model, Plate Number, Chassis and Engine Numbers Table/Form 3 contains insurance coverage data: ID, Plate Number, Policy Number and details of insurance coverages And Table/Form 4 contains premium collection data: ID, Policy Number and details of payment
The underlined fields are the respective primary keys and relationship of each table.
I want the Plate Number on Table 3 to automatically change, once the user edits the same field on Table 2. My concern is, if the customer has 2 or more vehicles or plate numbers, the DLookup function only takes up one plate number. How do I use this function without compromising the relationship of the form???
My other concern is the “=Right([PlateNumber],1)” function I used on my “Ending Plate Number” field. Data appears on the Form but if I look on the Table, data is missing.
I'm working on the Navigation Form template in Access 2010, which is new to me. It appears that one needs to use the BrowseTo command to open up a form in the built-in subform module. I'm trying to create a couple of buttons where each button opens a form in a different data mode; one in read-only and one in add mode. Here is the syntax I used for read-only:
frmSales is the Sales form I want both of the buttons to open and frmNavigation is the Navigation form. It seems to be ignoring the data mode part at the end however. It only will open in Edit mode. Is there something I'm doing wrong with this command?
Basically I need to design form that looks very similar to either Split Form or Subform. I have attached a print screen of what I roughly need. The form is split into two parts. In the first/top part there are some List Box/Date fields that act as filters to the bottom form, so the bottom form displays only records that match values in red. The second part of the top form has some field that require input from user and then these records are added to the bottom form. I was trying to use both Split Form and Subform and none of it is working,I have attached an example of database and this form would be based on data from Query1.
