Reports :: Hide Subreport If No Data And Remove Blank Space
Sep 11, 2013
I have a report which contains 3 subreports. Now I require to do the following:
1. Hide the subreport if there is no data.
2. Remove the Blank space created when the data in subreport is null.
I tried to Set Can Grow and Can Shrink to Yes but still the blank space was not removed.
When I reduced the height of the subreports in the design view the blank space was reduced but it was still there.
What can be done so that the complete report auto adjusts itself if any sub-report is null? Something like the whole page auto fits itself in the available space?
The option of reducing the size of sub report in design view to minimum is there but it makes the report very un-handy for future reference.

What forumla could I use in a report field to remove all characters before the first space in a text field e.g.
32A Bank Street --> Bank Street
19 Alder Street --> Alder Street
I've tried =Right([JLADD1],Len([JLADD1])-2) but this obviously doesn't work for the first example above.

I have a report with four subreports. If the subreports have no data I have a formula to put the word 'none' in the first field as follows:
=IIf(IsNull([Question]),"None",[Question])
I do a print preview and the word 'None' shows up and subreport looks good when I view just the subreport as well as when I view the full report.
When I print the subreport the text '#Error' prints. When I print the full report I just get a blank space.
I need the subreport to print with the word 'None' if there is not data. How do I accomplish? I tried the above formula both in the query and in the control source of the report. It just comes up blank when I put it in the query.

I have a report that has two sub reports one to report deposits and the other to report payments.
The report prints fine if there are records in both sub reports, however when the payments sub report is blank then the report hangs and won't print to pdf at all.

I have an Access 2000 form containing several subforms that needs printing on a regular basis, which works fine when the subform contains data, but sometimes the subforms contain null values. We want to print the subforms without the data to maintain consistency, but when printed they have disappeared and a blank space in the form is printed. The subforms view perfectly in print preview... any help would be appreciated, I have spent a good deal of time researching this issue without any leads

I have a report with a subreport on it and I find that the subreport has alot of space between each of the rows of data that are shown.
How can I change the space between rows so it is not so great?
I tried "Padding" but this seems to change the distance between fields on each row, but not the distance between the rows.

I have a main report with several subreports. Some subreports have other nested subreports. all of the reports and subreports are based on queries. when a query returns no values, i would still like for the reports and subreports to display in print preview. (currently, they display in report view but not in print preview.)
I tried a few things:
1) I set all report section can shrink options to "No" - (this did not work)
2) I set the can shrink options for all textbox controls, within each report section , to "No" - (this did not work)
3) I moved all controls from the details section of the subreport to the report header section - (when I did this, I got the subreport to show in print preview when the query for a single subreport returns no values but when i have a subreport with nested subreports that have no value, none of them show up in print preview)
I've searched...moving the controls from the details to the report header was the best thing i could find, but again, this only works with a single subreport and not with multiple nested subreports.

I have a report that calls a subreport. In most instances, the subreport will have no data and I won't want to show the subreport. I've tried various ways to deal with this:
1) Make the subreport property on the main report the minimum height and set CanGrow = Yes
2) Use the Report_NoData event on the subreport and add the code 'Cancel = 1'
3) Make all the fields on the subreport the minimum height and set CanGrow = Yes
None of these seem to work. I don't have any headings on the subreport, so the only price I'm paying is adding a gap onto the main report the size of one detail line of the subreport. Still, it leaves the report lacking professional quality.

I have a report that contains 5 graphs, one for each day of the week. I run this report daily. When I run the report on a Monday, only the Monday graph displays data and the other graphs are blank as there is no data for that day just yet. Is it possible to hide these graphs if there is no data? I did find one suggestion to create a text box with the following code
Code:
Private Sub Report()
If [SumOfWed] = 0 Then
Me.Graph24.Visible = False
Else
Me.Graph24.Visible = True
End If
This does't work for me.Graph24 is the name of Wednesdays graph and the row source for the graph is TRANSFORM Sum([Wed]) AS [SumOfWed] SELECT [Machine] FROM [qryShiftDays] GROUP BY [Machine] PIVOT [Shift];

I have a checkbox that determines whether or not to display certain form controls. How can I also hide the resulting white space that comes from hiding the form controls?
Can I put all of the controls in some sort of container and hide the container? The form objects are all displayed in order, so it shouldn't cause issue.
Can I create a subform for the objects and hide it? This would make the main and subforms based off of the same table.
Occam's Razor would be the preferred philosophy in this case. Nothing too fancy is needed.

I have a form which I would like to enable scrollbars both horizontally and vertically (the main reason being, the application is designed for users with large / wide screens but may at some point be required on smaller screens)
Currently I have the scrollbars switched off and the form maximises but everything goes to pot if I resize the window. I'd like to add the scrollbars so if a user wants to resize the window to, say, half the screen, they can still scroll across to the 'hidden' parts of the form.
The problem with this is, if the form is maximised - or at least large enough to show the entire form - the area of the screen where the horizontal scrollbar resides is white (whereas the background colour of the form is a pale green) Which is quite unsightly.
I know I can remove the problem by removing the horizontal scrollbar and the navigation bar (which is already gone!) but then I can't scroll?
Is it possible to have a horizontal scrollbar but not have that white space at the bottom when the scrollbar is not required?
(Doesn't appear to be a problem with the vertical scrollbar?...)

I have a continuous pop up form which, at the most, will contain about 10 records. The ten records take up less than half the screen space - but there is a bottom half to the form - even though there is nothing there. How can I get rid of the unused space on my form?

I designed and used an Access 2003 for some time but I have recently updated to Access 2013 and want to rejig and improve my database. My query is that I need to print invoices from my database, there is a header section with my details, then a section with the customers name and address at the left hand side, and the invoice details such as invoice number, invoice date, PO number, credit terms, etc. at the right hand side. I would like to remove any blank lines from the customers address but to still have the invoice details at the right formatted and spaced correctly. Is there any way of doing this, the canshrink property will not work due to the invoice details which still need to be printed to the right?

I have a query which contains about 19 fields in it and some of the fields contain parameters. What I'm trying to do is to run the query using the parameters I've set, but at the same time remove fields that are empty (therefore only fields that are populated will be shown). I've tried using the 'is not null' parameter but it seems to interfere with the other parameters that I've set and as a result the query doesn't show any information. Also the field containing the 'is not null' parameter is still being shown. I'm not really sure what else to try!! Any suggestions would be most appreciated!!

Hi Friends,
Sounds Impossible But i believe there must be a genius out there to solve this
I was wondering if there is a way to stop displaying fields on a form which contain spaces or blank values. I m using a query that takes data from a table named School
I have a table which have 5 fields. lets say: Field1, Field2, Field3, Field4, Field5
My fields from 1 to 3 have data but field4 and field5 do not have a value in it. What i wish to achieve is to show only those fields which have a value in it. Blank or field with spaces must not be displayed. Is It Possible.
Regards,
Darno

I need to suppress/hide a blank row on a subform.
The Main form is based on a table, contains Site Header information
The Subform is based on another table containing Sample Details records
Site Header table to Sample Details table relation ship is one-to-many,
with two key fields SiteID and SiteVisitDate
The Form/SubForm is linked by SiteID, SiteVisitDate
The form adds one record to the Site Header Table.
Then adds mutliple records to the Sample Details table for that SiteID.
Some fields are populated with a script, while others are populated by user input
An empty/blank/new row always appears on the subform before & after the Sample Details are added. The blank row Before new records are added is not a problem but when it appears after new records are added is a pain
I've tried CanShrink etc,
Any help appreciated
Cheers,
Michael

On a continuous form, I would like the user will add a new record via button click instead of popping open a blank record at all times. With AllowAdditions set to False on Form load, and turning it back on button click I can get a new record added. I am having trouble determining where to turn it back off. After Insert - doesn't seem to delete the blank row until I move to the blank row, so this doesn't accomplish what I am looking for.
AfterUpdate (for each field on continuous form) - this did what I wanted, but I was only able to update one field on the form for the new record. The combo boxes then were viewable, but I could not make a selection.

I have run into some problems though. I have one main table where all the details of users are imported, I have created several queries for different types of courses users sign up for. I would like that when I select a query it only shows the users who signed up for certain course. So basically what I would like to do is if a field is empty or null to hide the whole row.
