Reports :: Output To PDF With Distorted Letters - All Fonts Are Embedded
Aug 12, 2014
I have a report that i export to pdf from access 2010 using OutputTo. The report is about 10 pages long. Every time i run this report, at page 5 and beyond, random letters become distorted, sometimes with a box sometimes with a question mark. All fonts I've tested are embedded. Times New Roman, Calibri, Arial, Georgia and others.
Attached is a sample of of the distorted pdf output.

I'm using Access 2007 SP3.
Whenever I export reports to PDF, the output appears zoomed and clipped. No extra pages are generated as they would be if I'm going over margins, it's just the report is clipped.
The report looks perfect in preview mode, and it looks perfect when going to an actual printer. However, when using OutputTo to save it as a PDF, this is when the report content is clipped.
Here is the code I'm using:
DoCmd.OpenReport MyReport, acViewPreview
DoCmd.OutputTo acOutputReport, "", acFormatPDF, "MyReport.pdf"
DoCmd.Close acReport, MyReport
I open the report in preview mode first so events are fired that show/hide various objects based on fields in the recordset.
I've tried reinstalling, and I've tried this on two different machines, one running Windows 7 and one running Windows Server 2008...both with the same results.

I have been tasked with creating a database to log employee suggestions and then automatically present reports around the site. I have developed the database and it works OK and can output *.PDF reports, but I'm having problems with how to display these reports. My idea was to output the reports automatically as *.TIFF or *.JPG files and have them stored in a folder that the My Pictures screensaver uses. The reports (in fact, any site report stored in this folder) can then be shown on any screen dotted around the site when it goes into screensaver mode. However I can't find any way to output/convert to a picture file.
The other option is to create a webpage that rotates through the saved PDFs, but this isn't ideal as the PC users will have to load the webpage to display the reports.

I thought this would be pretty simple, but I cannot figure out how and wasn't able find the solution here or anyway.
I have a source form. (I can resort to having a Table with OLE Object if I must, but prefer not to.) On this source form I wish to include different things such as company logo. This will determine what logo shows up in all the reports, so all the reports will have an image linking back to this embedded image on the source form.
Pseudo-code Example:
frmSource contains imgLogo
rptSample contains an image whose
control source = Forms!frmSource!imgLogo
How can I do this or achieve the same effect in a more-or-less simple way?
TIA

I have a report that links to a picture. It displayed great in earlier versions of access, but when I switched to 2007, the pictures are displayed but they look like they are posterized. They print just fine. I use an image frame, zoom size mode and centered. They are fairly substantial jpegs (2 megs), but regardless, it is the change to Access 2007 that caused the problem.

Access 2007. I can run the report for last month and with the VBA code outputting it directly to PDF and it works. When I run it for this month, I get an error 2501. This report has been running for months with no issues. When I run it for this month and preview the output, I can export it to PDF with no problems. Why can't I get it to work in VBA for this month?

I would like to print a report file from a database into PDF format.Currently I am using a macro with a "where condition" to select the particular file which currently outputs to the default printer. Converting the macro to VBA reads as follows:
DoCmd.OpenReport "Receipt - full pay new", acViewNormal, "", "[ConsultID]=[Forms]![Payment Record Type]![ConsultID]"
However, if I do an output to PDF file as below, I can't insert a "where condition" to pick the specific file. Instead, it outputs the whole unfiltered report which is 12,000 pages and 29 MB!
DoCmd.OutputTo acOutputReport,"Receipt - full pay new",acFormatPDF,"C:AccessReceiptPDF.pdf"
How to combine the 2, i.e. have the "where condition" to select the particular report page, but output to a PDF file in a selected directory.

I got a easy table with two columns. To make it easy say
1 20
2 40
3 30
4 78
5 60
6 85
7 20
I want to put the number 1 - 7 over a picture and get it to look up the value in the 2nd coloumn and replace the nr with the number in the 2nd column. Is this possible? I would have to manually put in where 1 - 7 is (this will be labeled ontop of a plot plan)...

I have several reports that creates price sheets for all of my customers. It is a report with multiple subreports within, and I am trying to create a process to seperate them and export them all into [Customer Name].pdf. I have tried to scrap some code together from various forums, and it has been unsuccessful.
For example, one of the reports "rptPriceSheetQuarterly", has a field "txtCustomerName", that feeds the queries for the other subreports. I would like to create a new PDF when that field changes.
I understand I need some sort of looping code that will cut the report up dump them all into one folder, but I am totally out of my element here.

I have researched on here how to print the results of a query to a text file. I put the code in and I get an error on the openrecordset line. The error says "too few parameters, expected 4"
I tried the query in another report I export to excel and the query works.
I tried printing the whole table using "Select * from tbl_Customers" and it works????
Here is the code:
Dim rst As DAO.Recordset
Set rst = CurrentDb.OpenRecordset("qryBell1", dbOpenSnapshot)
Dim fs, TextFile
Set fs = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
Set TextFile = fs.CreateTextFile(pathname, True)
[Code] ....
the query returns 6 fields for printing and can filter based on whether 3 fields are filled or not on the form - Date, Campaign, Status

One of the users of my application, reports an error when saving a report to pdf by VBA code. She’s using Access 2013, on Windows 8.1.
The error is “error 2501 output to action was cancelled with access vb macro”
The VBA code is
StrReport = “RepInvoice”
StrDocumentName = “C:UsersMaryDocumentsAccessInvoice.pdf”
DoCmd.OpenReport StrReport, acViewPreview
DoCmd.OutputTo acOutputReport, StrReport, "PDFFormat(*.pdf)", StrDocumentName, False
DoCmd.Close acReport, StrReport, acSaveNo
This error occurs at the OutputTo line. This code is part of an user form with a button “save as PDF”.
When this code is run, the report is visible as an example (as meant to be) on the screen. The code stops at the OutputTo line.
When I use
DoCmd.OutputTo acOutputReport, StrReport, acFormatPDF, StrDocumentName,, False
the problem still exists.
I tried to save the report manually by Preview > Export > PDF. The preview is OK, saving as PDF results in the same error 2501. This may lead to the conclusion that this problem is not caused by the VBA code.
I verified whether user write rights are OK, and whether a default printer is available. Both are OK. The report consists of 1 page.
When this very same application is used with Access 2010, everything functions as expected.

I'm working with Access 2010 and am trying to use the transferspreadsheet command to output data in a query to an Excel 2010 format file. Here is the line of code:
DoCmd.TransferSpreadsheet acExport, acSpreadsheetTypeExcel12, "q_calldetails_tmp", "c: emp estoutput.xlsx"
It works fine and produces the output file but when I try and open it with Excel I get an error saying the format is incorrect. If I change the extension to .xls it opens with no problem but I need it to be an Excel 2010 format with correct extension.

I developed a report using Courier New font. When I print to a HP4050 from my computer the report is correct. When I print to the same printer from a different computer fields are truncated as if it is using a proportional font.
Any idea as to whether this is a Windows or Access issue?
Thank you in advance for any help...

Hi,
I've recently started working on a new database and already have most of my forms, queries and reports ready. However, I've been using a special font that is not available on most PCs. I was wondering whether it was possible to save the font inside the MDB file so that it can be viewed properly on other systems as well ? (Sort of like in Powerpoint).
Another thing (I guess it's impossible but I'll ask anyway) : Is it possible to save the whole Windows Style design (Scroll Bars, Arrows, Icons, Menu colors, etc..) in my database file ?
Thanks for your help,
Daniel.

I want to change the font spec for certain controls on a command bar I've created but can't find out how, or even if, it can be done.
Does anyone know how to do this? There might be an API call somewhere but I don't have any details.

I browsed a lot of posts related to fonts, and pored over my "Mastering Access 2000" and "Access 2000 Power Programming" books, but I couldn't find answers to my specific questions.
I have many years of experience with Access, but I've only recently become interested in making my forms look nice on a variety of user PC configurations. Now, like many others, I sometimes spend too much time formatting a form so it looks really nice on my PC, only to find formatting problems on the user's PC. For example, a label using Arial Rounded MT Bold looks great on my PC but is cut off on the user's PC. Similarly, Tahoma on buttons looks nice on my PC but looks bigger and bolder on the user's PC.
At first I thought this was probably a font problem. But then I realized that even with the same screen resolution, the forms themselves (not just the fonts) appeared bigger on the user's PC. Some forms didn't even fit inside a maximized Access window, whereas they certainly did on my PC - again, this is with the same screen resolution. So now I don't know if it's a font problem, some other problem, or perhaps multiple problems.
Which leads to my questions:
(1) If I set the size of a form on my PC, and the screen resolution is the same on my PC and the user's PC, then why does my form show up relatively bigger on some users' PCs? How can one control the look of a form if the form properties are not applied identically on different PCs?
(2) Why do all the fonts look bigger and fatter / bolder on some users' PCs?
(3) Is there a user-configurable Windows setting that overrides the font size settings I assign to controls?
(4) How can I determine in code if specific fonts are supported (if this is a necessary step)?
(5) What is the industry best practice for managing font selection, allowing for the possibility that the desired fonts may not be supported?
Thanks for your help...

Hello All:
A database with Last_name, First_name, Midd_name and Suffix.
These textboxes are concatenated into another textbox called "full_name".
The font style chosen for the full_name textbox is "Old English".
The suffixes used are: II, III and IV.
When Old English is applied to Last_name, First_name, Midd_name, it looks great.
Unfortunately when Old English is applied to these suffixes, it looks terrible.
Is there a way to preserve the "II", "II" and "III"?
Is it possible to have more than one font style in a concantenated textbox?
This will be used for printing completion certificates, so the spacing of the names is important.(Report)
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'm using a certain font - Guttman Yad-Brush (Hebrew, comes as a part of windows in Hebrew) in some forms and reports. On the design view of the objects, everything is OK. But when I try to display the form, or a print-preview of the report, Access refuses to show me that font. The text is clearly visible, in Hebrew, but in another font (I think Times-New Roman, but not sure).
The font is well installed, and works fine on other Office applications. Couldn't reproduce this behaviour with other fonts (but obviously haven't tried them all).

I'm using Access 2010's DoCmd.OutputTo in VBA to export reports to PDF. The "look and feel" of the PDFs are very important, as they will be distributed to clients of my company. I'm using special corporate fonts that are legally licensed for embedding as a subset. Two are .ttf (TrueType) and two are .otf (OpenType) fonts. The ttf fonts embed fine; the otf fonts do not, and the PDF viewer substitutes something it thinks is close (but really isn't). In the properties of the fonts in Windows Control Panel, the embedding properties are exactly the same for both.
Any way to force the fonts to embed? or any other workaround? Also, is there any way to edit-protect PDFs with VBA code? Or apply any other type of PDF security such as requiring a password to open?

I need to give users the ability to change the font of a field in a report. The field shows a barcode.
I thought of using the CommonDlg class to show the Windows font-selecting dialog box, but installed barcode fonts show as a barcode. I need to show the font name.
So I need to populate a combo box with the names of all fonts installed on a computer.
The fonts reside in C:windowsfonts
I have searched Google for a solution but cannot find one.
How do I populate a combo box with the names of all fonts installed on a computer?

Ladies and Gentlemen,
I am needing to develop an audio catalog and would like to know if anyone has experience with embedding audio in an Access database. The ideal situation would be to have all audio contained within the database, however, some of the audio files may be quite large and I don't want to bog down the entire database by having 100MB files in there either.
So I guess my question simply is; if my audio files are 50MB or larger, embed or link?
Thanks for any advice.

In the form view of the db I have a bound box for an embedded ole object
I use it to embed Word documents for each db entry (The database is for works of art and the Word document is the description of each work of art which often contains Chinese Characters, hence the Word Document)
The box is set to show an icon (The Word Icon)
Upon entering the data and moving off the record, subsequent return to to the record sometimes shows that the icon is gone from the box, it is blank.
Clicking the blank box brings up the Word Document but then closing the Word Document and re-clicking the blank box dos not bring up the Word Document.
The standard message saying that the ole object is empty appears and all the data from the Word Document is lost.
this has only happened since moving to Office 2007. I upgraded the db to 2007 format and we are using Word 2007.
A Google of the symptoms doesn't bring any meaningful results, does anyone have any ideas?
I tried to keep this as short as possible (which wasn't easy) if you need more info just ask
Thanks

I have an embedded excel workbook on an Access form (Access 2002)
I would like to change the zoom of the excel "view".
I've tried this:
' xlCharts is an embedded XL workbook
xlCharts.Object.Parent.ActiveWindow.Zoom = 100
I get an error that says:
"Unable to set the Zoom property of the Window class"
However, if I READ the zoom level, it works fine. The zoom property of the window class in excel is read/write, but this may not be the case for embedded OLE objects. Is there another way? Does anyone have any ideas?

Ok, say I have a table with the following fields, custid, mainnum, subnum
whereas the data would look like this:
Code:Cust Main SubA101 1 2A101 2 1A101 3 4A101 4 2A101 5 3B202 1 2B202 2 4B202 3 1C303 1 2C303 2 1
The main number always counts up from 1 on each new customer, I already have code to do this. I am running a for next loop based on the highest main number (I already have this part), for instance, for Cust A101, the for next loop would essentially be: for x = 1 to 5.... like I said, I have this part.
What I want to do when x is counting, to pull up the mainnum value that equals the value in the for/next (in other words equals X), and run a for next loop based on the sub number based for that record. For example using C303's data:
Code:For X = 1 to MaxOfMainNum '<---I already have this 'code to pull up subnum where mainnum=X For Y=1 to SubNum_For_Selected_Mainnum 'I will be doing an insert to table here custid,x,y Next YNext X
The parts in Bold in the above code is what I'm needing an answer to.
I tried to be as concise as possible, but I know it might be confusing.
Thanks in advance,
Benji
