Reports :: Unable To Produce A Report Which Uses A Static Design And Does Not Change

Jun 13, 2013

I'm trying to produce a report which uses a static deisgn and does not change. For example,I require in the detail of the report a table say 3 * 8 ....and in the report I need the data to fill each one of these cells. However I may not have 8 records , therefore I need the remaing columns/cells empty - the design of 3 * 8 must not change... at the moment I have a dynamic design so if i have 3 records I have 3 *3 table leaving a massive gap on the report.

Setting Field To Null

Jan 28, 2013

I have a form to enter attendance in that pulls students from a StudentEnrollmentTable based on FacultyName which is selected from a combobox that runs the following code:

Private Sub cboInstructorName_Click()
Me.Requery
End Sub

A query (StudentAttendanceBYFaculty) is run each time a faculty name is selected. On the form their is a field name TempClassesAttended which is bound to a field of the same name in the StudentEnrollmentTable. Teachers will enter attendance data and run an append query to append the current form records to the StudentAttendanceTable. Each time the form is repopulated the most recent TempClassesAttended values are pulled into the form. This is what is expected.

Now I want to load Null values into the TempAttendance field on the form each time the Faculty selects their name and runs the event. I looked at code online and it seems easy enough, but I don't know enough to make it work. This is the code suggested:

UPDATE TableName SET FieldName = Null
OR
UPDATE MyTable
SET MyField = Null

how to include this into the current event so that the event will return the faculty records with Null values in the TempAttendence field.

Forms :: Setting Limits In A Textbox

Jun 27, 2014

I have a textbox called Odours, there are four buttons below the textbox btn_Cadaver, btn_Drugs, btn_Explosives and btn_Money.

On licking one of the buttons a value will be put in he textbox i.e. pressing the btn_Cadaver will put the value "Cadaver ()" in the textbox.

The reason I want this is that all of the entries must begin with either Cadaver, Drugs, Explosives or Money. The brackets are there to allow the user to put some free text between the brackets.

I have some code to set the cursor (on click) between the brackets

Code:
Me.Breed.SelStart = 9

I want to prevent the user from typing anywhere in the textbox except between the brackets.

Modules & VBA :: Setting Variable To Null When It Has A Value?

Jan 21, 2015

I have the following simple variable assignment...

Dim PolRef As String
Let PolRef = Me.Policy_Ref_Num

But when I run my code I get "Invalid Use of Null" and PolRef is set to ""

This field is populated however, so I'm confused to why I cant set my variable to it.

If I don't use a variable and simply have let XXX = me.Me.Policy_Ref_Num then it still wont return the value from the field.

Efficient Way Of Setting Value Of A Textbox To The Result Of A Select Query

Apr 19, 2005

Anyone know an efficient way of setting the value of a textbox to the result of an sql query?

I am using the following, but it seems to be slow when populating a large form:

Make.RowSource = "SELECT BarcodeDATA.Make FROM (Customers RIGHT JOIN CustomerSales ON Customers.CustomerID = CustomerSales.CustomerID) LEFT JOIN BarcodeDATA ON CustomerSales.ItemNum = BarcodeDATA.ItemNum WHERE (((CustomerSales.ItemNum)=[Forms]![FormCheckConsignmentStatus]![ItemNum])); "

Make.Requery

Make.Value = Make.Column(0, 0)

Let me know if there is a better way to do this.

Queries :: Checking Query For Null And Setting Operations

May 30, 2014

I have been working on an application where I am collecting survey data in a database. There are multiple survey tools available to the user, and it's possible to complete multiple survey tools in the survey.My problem is, it's possible for the surveyor to complete some tools on one day and other tools on another day. I am having problems with trying to figure out how to add a tool that has not been previously added and keep in the same survey which is all held under a single Survey Number.

The first step in the function is to set a Record Number temporary variable based on whether or not the tool has been used (it's possible to use multiple instances of a survey tool, so need to know if the Record Number is '1', or the next number in the sequence.I've been trying to do this by checking a query for a Null and setting the temporary variable using something like:

IF ISNull("RecordNumber","qryRecordHeader") Then '1'
Else
DLast("RecordNumber","qryRecordHeader") +1
End IF

The second half works just fine, so if there is a previous record, it will add. But if it's Null, it doesn't work.I'm trying to avoid opening a temporary form to run the query and checking a field. Is there a way around that?

Reports :: Setting Filters - Updating On Multiple Sub Reports?

Apr 26, 2015

I have created a report which contains within it multiple sub-reports, which I use to generate a document for management meetings on a bi-weekly basis.

For each of these I have the subreports filtered to a unique number for consideration that period e.g. LIKE "88/00039" which relates to my data.

In order to change this I have to manually update each of the filter commands within the subreports but I assume there must be an easier 'catch-all' method of achieving this?

Ideally I'd be looking for a command prompt so I could enter just the number sequence e.g. "88/00040" and then enter this (via a corresponding macro or similar) to update the filter commands.

Tables :: Setting Primary Keys To More Than One Field In Table / But They Cannot Have Null Values

Nov 30, 2012

Access 2010..One organization that we work with provides us with a block of numbers for each of the two types of contract products we order from them; we do order non-contract stuff from them also.The block of numbers are the same (i.e. 20000 to 30000 this year) for each of the two products. This means that each product can have the number 20000, for example. We call this the Tracking Number. If it is one of these products, we need to select the Contract Number.

For all other one off orders we have with them, we assign our own Tracking Number starting with 00001. This Tracking Number cannot duplicate unless it is one of the aforementioned two products.Both the Tracking Number and Contract Number are in the same table. The user selects the Contract Number from a form (connected to the Contract Number table that has all the details on the contract) and the Contract Number is populated in the same table that has the Tracking Number.Each order must have a Tracking Number (no null)..Not all orders need a Contract Number (null okay).The Tracking Number and Contract Number combination cannot duplicate.I tried setting the primary keys to more than one field in the table, but they cannot have null values.

If not... I have been working on Plan B.... an AfterUpdate on the form (either the form or a field... don't know yet) that looks at a query that only has results if there are duplicate values.

Evaluating Textbox For Null Values

Jan 31, 2005

I am having problems getting Access to evaluate whether a textbox is empty using VBA behind my form. I'm currently using Access 2000 on a Windows98 machine, but I also tested this in Access 2003 on an XP machine and got identical results.

The way I’d like the code to operate is if the “Product1” field is empty, the value taken from another form would be pasted there, and if it isn’t empty, go to the “Product2” field and if that field is empty, paste it there, otherwise go to the “Product3” field, etc.

I have tried using If IsNull(“Product1”) Then… but Access seems to think that the unbound textbox with no default value isn’t empty.

I tried using If ("Product1" <> "*") Then… but Access again seems to think that there is something in that unbound/no-default value textbox.

My code looks like this:
If ("Product1" <> "*") Then
DoCmd.GoToControl "Product1"
DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdPaste
DoCmd.OpenForm "ActiveProduct", acNormal, "", "", , acNormal
DoCmd.GoToControl "Description"
DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdCopy
DoCmd.OpenForm "Order Form", acNormal, "", "", , acNormal
DoCmd.GoToControl "ProdDescr1"
DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdPaste
DoCmd.Close acForm, "ActiveProduct", acSaveNo
DoCmd.GoToControl "ProdQty1"
DoCmd.Close acForm, "Product Lookup form", acSaveNo

ElseIf ("Product2" <> "*") Then
DoCmd.GoToControl "Product2"
DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdPaste …

End If

I admit that my VBA skills are limited, but after having scoured these forums as well as Access help and examining the logic of my code, I am completely stumped. Any suggestions you can offer would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Help With Disabling A Checkbox When A Textbox Is 0 Or Null

Jun 17, 2005

I'm guessing that this will take coding and I don't know coding very well. I have 4 categories...I'll call them A B C D.
For each category, there is 3 text boxes, EX: A Cost, A Refund, A Rec Date
I will have a checkbox for when each is rec. but not all accounts will have every category(A, B, C, D). I'm trying to get the checkboxes for each category to be disabled if and only if the Category(A, B, C, D) Cost is NULL or 0.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Forms :: Fill Textbox With Text If It Is Null?

Jul 3, 2014

I am trying to use this expression in my textbox to show when the textbox value is null:

=IIf(IsNull([ContractStatus]),"Null",[ContractStatus])

It gives me a circular reference error (#error in the textbox). If I change it to this:

=IIf(IsNull([ContractStatus]),"Null","ContractStatus"), it will display the text "Contract Status" (obviously).

What am I overlooking here? Does this need to be done in VBA?

Reports :: Setting Report Parameters

Jul 16, 2014

I have an report that uses name paramaters.this is the sql for the report

Code:

PARAMETERS [whatCompany] Text ( 255 );
SELECT tblInvoices.ClientCompany, tblInvoices_Details.Charge, Sum(tblInvoices_Details.Hours)
AS SumOfHours, tblInvoices.InvoiceID
FROM tblInvoices INNER JOIN tblInvoices_Details ON tblInvoices.InvoiceID = tblInvoices_Details.InvoiceID
GROUP BY tblInvoices.ClientCompany, tblInvoices_Details.Charge, tblInvoices.InvoiceID
HAVING (((tblInvoices.ClientCompany)=[whatCompany]));

How do I pass the paramaters to the report? I've tried several different ways but can't get it to work

Code:
Dim stdocname As String
Dim stLink As String
stdocname = "RptWithParm"
stLink = "ClientCompany = " & "'" & Me.lstCustomer & "'" 'Using the field name doesn't work
DoCmd.OpenReport stdocname, acViewReport, , stLink

'When I try to set the value of the paramater that doesn't work either
stLink = "[whatCompany] = " & "'" & Me.lstCustomer & "'" 'using the paramater name doesn't work
DoCmd.OpenReport stdocname, acViewReport, , stLink

I know I could use the value of the form in the criteria like this

Code:
HAVING (((tblInvoices.ClientCompany)=[Forms]![frmTesRptParm]![lstCustomer]));

If I use the list box as the criteria I want to be able to use reports in other than one place, plus there are over 80,000 records and it'll run faster if I set the criteria before the report opens instead of setting a filter after it opens to only show up to about 100.

Setting Up Good Report Menus For End Users - A Lot Of Reports!

May 25, 2005

I am working on stream lining reports for my application, so that I don't have a huge maze of menus.

I am open to any ideas of how to best set this up. Right now I have a report menu with about 8 command buttons. Some take them to a criteria form for that report, others straight to the report, and others to another menu with a whole other set of buttons for more reports.

I have looked at organizing the "categories" of reports that I have.

I see that I have Candidate reports and Hire reports. This is because this application is for people who apply for a job. Once the information is entered on the entry side, there are a number of things to report on.

One idea is to make a statistics report menu for all of the summary reports. These are counts of candidates under certain groups, like what office they applied to, what departmen, or what date they applied. Then these counts exist for hires as well, and what they were hired to, and what date they started.

I also have detail reports showing the people information as candidates or hires, grouped by these such factors.

If anyone can help me to organize the best method for making these reports available to the user, I would really appreciate it.

One thought would be a form with 2 combo boxes and a preview button.

I am thinking that this could work for the statistic report menu. My database is normalized, so I can't use their names in the combos. I would want to have 1 combo for choosing candidate or hire, as that report that they want. Then the next combo would be the factor to report them on. Office, department, application source, etc

I have summary report for candidates and for hires. parallel reports, but one for (ie) all candidates by the office that they applied to. Then I would have one for all hired candidates (were hired) by the office that they were hired to. Same with department, and many others.

If anyone can help me to either how best to do this process, whether my thought is a good way to go, or if there is a better set up that I should try. I am open to anything here!

Thanks. :D

Reports :: Setting Object To Visible When Using OutputTo Method

Jul 28, 2014

I have a series of reports that are built to replicate the order forms of our suppliers. On each I have a text box for Air Freight that I only want visible when the airfreight ID is ticked.

I have this working fine using an if statement on the Load Event of the reports. However when I use the OutputTo command in VBA it seems to bypass the Load Event. Any event that is triggered using OutputTo.

I have also tried setting the .visible in VBA but can't get the coding to work as I am using a variable report name depending on the SupplierName and when I try to use the Reports! nomenclature it will not accept the Report name being a variable (ie. Reports!ReportName![Airfreight].Visible where ReportName is a variable).

Reports :: Setting Groupings On Report - Count Of Defined Records

Mar 29, 2013

Report has records of errors. There are 3 types of error. In the report footer, I would like a total count (this is working!) and a count by type (can't get this to work).

Error Total =Count[ErrorType]
Compliance Total =Sum(IIf([ErrorType]="Compliance",1,0))
Audit Total =Sum(IIf([ErrorType]="Audit",1,0))
Quality Total =Sum(IIf([ErrorType]="Quality",1,0))

I have tried setting groupings on the report but this alters the detail sorting (currently sent by the date field newest to oldest) and provides the count within the detail.

In the On_Open event of this blank report, I am trying to set the source object of the subreport to one of reports in my collection:

Me.Controls("Child" & i).SourceObject = mcolReportInstances.Item(strKey)

However, it keeps giving me the error 'Type mismatch'.

Modules & VBA :: Setting Hyperlink To Open Different Forms / Reports Dynamically?

Oct 18, 2014

I am trying to add a feature in my database dashboard that shows a list of hyperlinks that are the most frequently used forms and reports based upon the user. I can figure out how to capture the event each time the form or report is opened and update a record to increase the count, and build a recordset that will query the table filtering by user and order by frequency...

However, I am stuck on building the hyperlinks that will point to the correct form or reports dynamically.

Specifically, I am not able to update the subaddress using VBA. I get an error that the hyperlink cannot follow to the new form...

Here is my code:

Code:

strApp = "frmTest1"
Me.txtUser = strUser
Me.txtLink3 = strApp
Me.txtLink1 = strApp
