Reports :: Total From Query Not Available?
Sep 30, 2014
I have a query that is filtering records from a table, I have used the Totals row in the query to Group By and provide Count of totals. The datasheet view of the query has the total row and is working fine. I would like to display the total row on a report, using the query as the record source.
It does not seem to be available, so I put a text box in the footer of the report with the Control Source set to: =Sum([CountOfPermit_Type]), but that only returns an error.

I am trying to create a query that has a self referencing running total based on the values (point totals) of itself (running total of values in the running total column that have already been calculated for all previous records) plus the total of new points being added in the current record, less the total of points being removed in the current record. This running total can never go below 0, if it does, the running total should restart at zero and add in only new points and begin the process again with the next records
I am able to do this in Excel in less than two seconds so I know there has to be a way to port this into a query. I've attached an excel example of what I am exactly trying to do
If it takes multiple queries to complete the required output I am ok with it. In my previous outtakes I have had up to 8 queries but just couldn't seem to do it..

I have designed many queries in my db and report for every single query. Each report has count filed. =Count(*).
Now I want a report to show these count fields. Which will serve purpose to get overall summary report. I have tried using
[Report]![name of field]
but it does not work.
Could somebody please help?

what I think is a running total for each day. I have a form that collects data several times in the day. I want a report to show a total for each day and subtotals for each column and grand totals. I can add the dates and used a running total to the report but the report will show all the entries made for the day not a single total for the day. (I hope I said the correctly.) This needs to be done for all columns. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I've attached what I have so far.

I have two columns in my report that at the bottom it gives me the following total, as I put below. I am trying to take the two totals that is gives and get the percentage. 1058/3024 = 35%.
=Sum([TotScrwBlank]) =Sum([TotalAmount]) .349 or 35%
1058 3024
I had did the equation as =Sum([TotScrwBlank])/([TotalAMount]), but this is giving me the answer of 46% which is not correct.

I have reports that total the figures in a column and displays the total at the bottom of the column. I would like to display the total at the top of the column since the length of the column continues to grow and I would like to see that total before scrolling down to view the various individual entries.
No matter how I try the =count(x) always shows an error. Is it not possible to display the total figure at the top of a column instead of at the bottom?

I have a report I want to generate in Access 2010. I have a text box with the following:
Code:
="Page " & [Page] & " of " & ([Pages]+[Forms]![ReportForm]![PageCount])
What I am attempting to do is increase the maximum number for the total number of pages in the report. As it reads right now when I go into print preview it looks like
"Page 1 of " That is all. It doesn't seem to calculate the new total number of pages. Yes the report form is open, and yes there is value in the PageCount in the Report Form.I had this working in another database, but this one isn't being as nice. The reason for adding to the total page count is because additional pages will be added to the report that aren't in the database. how to increase the total number of pages in the report.

I am using Access 2003 and trying to create a report that has a running balance of payments into an account. There are also payments out of the account which reduce the balance.
When I add the other columns into the expression for the running total the result shows in the report as "0".
The expression I am using is: =([Escrow Pmt Amount]-[Ins Pmt Amount])
I have this expression in the "Detail" section of the report with the "Running Total" toggled to "Accross Group".
How can I subtract the values in the other columns (Outgoing Payments) from the balance and continue the running total.
The list of payments within the report are date driven and grouped by an account number.

I am trying to build a report that shows the total count for multiple queries.
For instance I have a field in my table that can be either A, B, or C.
I have 3 queries built, 1 to show me the information for A's, 1 for B's, and 1 for C's.
I would like a report that shows me ONLY the total number of each category. such as:
A= 38
B= 72
C=12
Thus far I have only been able to create one that shows me all of the information from the queries.

As you 'll see my files, have one report into my database and i need to print it like in the SHEET SAMPLE Word document. My problem is how can I force the record excess, for example the 10 at the footer to print "In tranfer" with the sub total in previous! and in the next page to print the continuous sub total (From transfer) at the place of the 11th record meaning the first row on the detail of report and to continue on the last page to print in the last row the grand total (TOTAL).2nd problem is when the record for example is 2 to continue to print blank row to the last one and print the grand total (TOTAL).
P.S.1 I have posted it and the original sheet as it must be on print in, Excel file and it is important to print it with gridlines.
P.S.2 As you try to open the database please ignore the message saying the start form is missing

Imagine that you see a column of values and then a total at the bottom. The only issue is that the total value does not appear until you click on it.
Any setting that would cause a total value in a footer section to not appear automatically?
Behavior is noticed on reports as well as subreports. An image is attached.. Imagine the $37,000,000 simply not appearing until it is clicked with the mouse.

I can not get my Access Report to give me a total number of pages by group. I've been able to have it give the correct page number per group but not the total number of pages in each group. I've looked at the threads and it appears that in order to get this, you must do a 2 part pass. 1st to get the page number and then to get the total papers per group.
I've used the code supplied and when I do a print preview, I get the message that it can not find the control, Me!ctlGrpPages. This is the control I created and placed in my page footer section of the report. I've also seen numerous references to the report, "Employee Sales by Country" in the Northwind database. I downloaded the database but could not find this report in the database.

I have a question about summing information on a report. I am developing a report to see have percentage of time Staff work within a certain area. On the data base the time percentages entered as ranges e.g. 75-100%, or 11-25%. We needed to figure out the total percentage of time so I created a report to add the total time. I used a text box which it titled FTE_Total if embedded iif functions to display the total time. Here is the function I used:
=IIf([FTE_Percentage]="76-100%",1,IIf([FTE_Percentage]="51-75%",0.75,IIf([FTE_Percentage]
="26-50%",0.5,IIf([FTE_Percentage]="11-25%",0.25,IIf([FTE_Percentage]="1-10%",0.1,0))))).
This worked perfectly however I cannot get the FTE_Total fields to sum. I tried the following function in the group footer: =Sum([FTE_Total]) but everytime I try to look at the report in report view I get a message asking for the FTE_Total Parameter.

I have a database and one of the functions is to track the purchase of fuel. Part of purchasing fuel is registering what the current odometer reads. My query gets the Vehicle ID, Date of Transaction and Odometer reading. I want to show a report that shows how many miles the vehicle is has traveled for a certain amount of time. If it's for 2013 then I'll put the criteria for 2014 in the date. This will give me a list of all vehicles and their odometer readings. I then sort the date by ascending.
In the report I group on vehicle ID and then I want to show all their transactions and add up how many miles were driven.
Vehicle 1
1/2/201
1/5/2013
1/15/2013
ETC...
Total Miles Driven in 2014: XXXXXX

I have a report (Access 2007) with multiple totals and subtotals. However, one field, whenever I click "show Grand Total," always shows up all akimbo (out of line with the other grand totals), unbound and without the nifty little blue "grand total bar" above it.

I am working with a database that I downloaded and am trying to modify to fit my needs.
This is an inventory database. The products table contains a description and pricing. I want the description and pricing to populate in the Purchase Order form, so I added Dlookup fields in the Purchase Order form. I was happy.
However, the pricing information is not populating to my Inventory Transactions Table from the Purchase Order form by way of this Dlookup feature, and therefore will not show on my report, and in turn does not show in my Total of my Purchase Order report.
As a work around, I tried creating a calculation in the purchase order report, of =[UnitsOrdered]*[Products.UnitPrice], and the pricing totals show fine on my report, but the subtotal doesn't work.
I was unable to upload my file...so a few notes of info...
There are no queries set up in the database for this report.
I had tried a sorting grouping thing (in the Report) by Subtotal, but now can't get rid of it.
When I show the field list for the report, across the top of the window reads:
SELECT DISTINCTROW Employees.*, Products.*, [Inventory Transactions].*, [Purchase ORders].*, Suppliers.*, nz([Inventory Transact
Looks like it runs out of space
I am trying to attach a couple of images to support my comments.
Since this issue crosses both reports and forms (and tables!), I am not sure where to properly post. The end result I am looking for is on my report.
I am using Access 2003...

Hi,
1) I am pretty newbie to this access programming, do forgive me if my questions sounds stupid.
2) Basically I create an application in access capturing or production information for my company. now the top management suddenly wanted whats their main concern:- Total Daily/Monthly, Quarterly, Annual Sales (By Model If possible)
3) I start with daily (Lets don't be too overly ambitious).
4) I try to let user select dates from my calender control and reflect daily sales (in Total & By Model break down) insert into my form.
5) Understand someone told me from my previous post in Calender control I can achieve it either through forms or queries, which is a better way. (in terms of flexibility to change for program maintenance/ scalibility) wise ?
PS: Please forgive my ignorance :o:(
Thanks (In advance) & God Bless.

O.K, I am really trying to figure this out from other postings but my limited query experience is limting my understanding of the other posts.
I only know how to use the query wiz and then a bit in design mode.
I have a Query
[ID]pk [Contest Name], [Score]
There will be many records for the same [Contest Name] in the underlying table. Therefore i want to sub total by [Contest Name] so i can then create a report. I have created the report perfectly using the Report support in another posting submitted. But the report does not allow me to order the results as the sum calc is a function on the report. Therefore I am now exploring the Query Sum [Score] order by [Contest Name].
I just need it in a Qery for dummies format.
Go into design mode and put the following in what portion of the query on what line.
I will keep on searching in the mean time

I have a query which returns charge_cost (based on course cost, whether it went ahead, if hospitals are eligible for charging etc) which is then used in an existing report.
I want to make another report which simply is:
Total training spend for 2004-2005:
£1276.04
And i just want that to be the SUM of charge_cost.
I cant work out how to do this - i did a new query including charge_cost and then created a new field called total_spend: sum([charge_cost]) but i keep getting the message "You tried to execute a query which does not include the specified expression charge_cost as part of an aggregate function"
I have no idea what this means...

Hello all,
I again ran into something that I can't figure out.
I have a table:
Date
Time
FirstName
LastName
SSN
InAmount
OutAmount
I need a query to sum up the InAmount and OutAmount into one total based on the SSN. This query is placed into a form that is then placed onto another form. The form is to alert the user if the amount of the Inamount and Outamount of a unique SSN totals above $10,000.01 on the current date.
So for example if on 01/01/07 if SSN=111-11-1111 has an Inamount of $5,000.00 and an OutAmount of $5,000.01 thus totaling $10,000.01, then the person's name will appear on the form list. This will change/clear when the date is 01/02/07.
Any Ideas on how to accomplish this?

Hi,
I am trying to write a query that will total the number of fields that have matching values. For example i need to have IP addresses added into the table via a form, that bit is done but i need to create a query that will count how many times an individual IP address is added to the list.
So that on the report i can show the list of IP address and instead of showing duplicates it will show how many times it has been added to the table.
Any help on how i could do this would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Luke
