Return Without GoSub Error On Every Button On One Form
Sep 19, 2005
As the title says - I am getting a Return without GoSub error for every button on a particular form. Nothing has changed (that I'm aware of anyway) and now it is happening.
The only possible thought I had is I have one user using 2003 and all others using 2000 - could that have anything to do with it?
I have a database that suddenly has a new error this morning that might have been caused by another user while I was not in the database. When an event procedure is triggered by a form the following error is given, regardless of the code or the event that triggered it: "The expression on [event name] you entered as the event property setting produced the following error: Return without GoSub" The same error message occurs for Macros. The unusual part is if I open the VB editor and then close it the errors go away for the rest of the time I have the database open. Any ideas what might have caused this error or suggestions to fix it?
Hi, I have a button in a form that loads a report, if there is no data in the report then 2 error messages are displayed, however as these messages have no affect and they do no harm as such I would like to prevent them from being displayed. The error messages are error 91 “invalid use of isnull” error and error 2501 “cancel event error message”
I’ve been able to prevent either error 91 from being displayed or alternatively 2501 using a single if statement but not both of them together using two if statements.
(If error 94 is displayed, I would still like the report to open, error 2501 is displayed after the report is closed if there’s no data & i just want this message not to be shown)
Any ideas what im doing wrong? :confused: any help much appreciated
Regards
Kevin
Below code works ok (to trap just the one error message):
Err_cmdPreview_Click: If Err.Number = 2501 Then ' ignore cancel event error Else MsgBox Err.Number & " - " & Err.Description End If Resume Exit_cmdPreview_Click
End Sub
But the below code here doesn’t work (when I use 2 if statements to try & trap both of the error messages)
Err_cmdPreview_Click: If Err.Number = 94 Then ' ignore isnull error DoCmd.OpenReport stDocName, acNormal
Else If Err.Number = 2501 Then ' ignore cancel event error Else MsgBox Err.Number & " - " & Err.Description End If
I was trying from a button on my form that will go to and bring up the desktop. I want it so I can put this database on anyone's computer and the button will work.
I am using this and it works but only on my computer.
Application.FollowHyperlink "C:UsersBryanDesktop"
I also tried this
Application.FollowHyperlink "C:Show Desktop.scf" And Application.FollowHyperlink "C:WINDOWSSystemShow Desktop.scf"
Both gives Runtime error 490 cannot open specified file.
I have a program that has a "GC" Button that I click on which takes me to a General Contractor Form. It works perfectly unless the Firm has an apostrophe in it's name. For example "D'Agostino". (refer to attached DAgostino1.jpg). When I click on the GC button, I get the attached Syntax error, (Syntax on DAgostiono.jpg).
The third attachment (GC Firm Button Code.jpg) shows the VBC for this button.
I am currently creating a form which includes a command button to update a field in a table to show Today's Date, at the time of running a query I am still yet to write.
I have the following code for my Command Button, which is returning the Runtime Error 3464 (Data type mismatch in Criteria Expression):
Private Sub cmdAddTodaysDate_Click() CurrentDb.Execute (" UPDATE tblMyTable SET TodaysDate = " & Date & " WHERE tblMyTable.ProductCode = " & Me.txtProductCode) End Sub
The query above seems to be having issues matching the text from the 'txtProductCode' textbox to the table field 'ProductCode'.
I have been trying to find a solution to why I can't get a Dlookup with multiple criteria to return the value I need.
Essentially I am trying to use an Order Number to find the item number which is contained within another table. However the order number has multiple lines (suffixes) which alter the item number. Therefore I am trying to have the item number be populated by the correct 'combination' of Order Number and line ("suffix").
I have managed to use the Dlookup in the after update of each box of the form separately and they retrieve values in the table correctly:
Afterupdate of main order number:
Code:
Private Sub OrderNumbertxt_AfterUpdate() ItemNumbertxt = DLookup("item", "dbo_job", "[job] = '" & Forms![**INPUT]![OrderNumbertxt] & "'") End Sub
Afterupdate of suffix:
Code:
Private Sub SuffixTxt_AfterUpdate() ItemNumbertxt = DLookup("item", "dbo_job", "[suffix] = Forms![**INPUT]![SuffixTxt]") End Sub
However when I combine them as follows in the afterupdate of the Suffix box I receive a "Run-time error '13': Type mismatch"
Code:
Private Sub SuffixTxt_AfterUpdate() ItemNumbertxt = DLookup("item", "dbo_job", ("[suffix] = Forms![**INPUT]![SuffixTxt]") And ("[job] = '" & Forms![**INPUT]![OrderNumbertxt] & "'")) End Sub
I think the reason is something to do with some being numbers and some being a combination of text and numbers (based on the replies of other topics), but have been trying to modify these slightly and can't get it to work still.
Also the Order Number is a combination of letters and numbers (normally in the form of AB12345678), the suffix is just a number between 0-9 and the Item number it finds is a combination of numbers and letters.
I need to return a folders directory to a text box on my forms record called Files_Directory when i click the Browse command button... The folder will have more folders within it along with documents all relivant to the folder selected, hense the need for just the folder directory rather than a file.
I have a simple UDF that takes a string and returns a variant, which is an array of strings Example Input "Brick Wall" Return value would be a variant array with first element "Brick" and and second element "Wall" Now I have a table with a field of strings, and I want to make a query that returns all the results from the function, one per line.
So if my input table looks like this
[strField] "kick the ball" "return the pass"
my query result should looks like this
[Orig] [new] "kick the ball" "kick" "kick the ball" "the" "kick the ball" "ball" "return the pass" "return" "return the pass" "the" "return the pass" "pass"
Last time I had to do something like this I used VBA exclusively, with ADO objects, but I thought a query based solution would be easier.
With my current data the largest return array size my function returns is 27 elements but I wouldn't want to rely on that number being fixed.
I've made my own record navigation buttons on a form. they work fine, except when i get to the first record. if i click 'previous' then the 2105 error pops up "you can't go to specified record". the buttons were created through the wizard, and have error trapping in them. for some reason, it never actually goes to the error handler. the error message comes up, i press debug, and the 'DoCmd.GoToRecord , , acPrevious' is highlighted.
any ideas why the error trapping isn't working? here's the code:
Private Sub cmdPrevJob_Click() Dim x As Variant On Error GoTo Err_cmdPrevJob_Click DoCmd.GoToRecord , , acPrevious Exit_cmdPrevJob_Click: Exit Sub Err_cmdPrevJob_Click: If Err.Number = 2105 Then stop MsgBox Err.Description Resume Exit_cmdPrevJob_Click End Sub
I am a neophyte Access 2003 user attempting to build a new Form (all about Lynyrd Skynyrd but that is for discussion in a different forum)
When I attempt to add a Command Button to a Form in Design view, I get stepped through the wizard and all seems to be going well to enable me to add an “Add a New Record” button.
But at the end I get an error message that says “Application Defined or Object Defined Error.” What do I do next?
Thanks for your help, Southern Rock is depending on it.
I am creating a form that includes an add and delete button on the form. I have two other databases that these buttons work with. Using the same VB code (and name of the button) in my current database gives me the following error:
"The express On Click you entered as the event property setting produced the following error: A problem occurred while Microsoft Office Access was communicating with the OLE server or ActiveX Control.
*The express may not result in the name of a macro, the name of a user-defined function, or [Event Procedure].
*There may have been an error evaluating the function, event, or macro."
My VB code is as follows for the two buttons:
Option Compare Database Private Sub add_Click() On Error GoTo Err_add_Click
I created a button for a form using a built-in macro function for sorting records, and I am returned with the following error: THE COMMAND OR ACTION 'SortAScending' ISN'T AVAILABLE NOW.
I have created command buttons to enter event registration information after biographical information has been completed. When I click on the button I get the following error message:
"Microsoft Office Access cannot find the field '|' referred to in your expression."
This is the On Click code that I have in there. Can anyone spot the error of my ways?
Private Sub RegisterButton_Click() On Error GoTo Err_RegisterButton_Click If IsNull(Me![AttendeeID]) Then MsgBox "Enter attendee information before registering for an event." Else DoCmd.DoMenuItem acFormBar, acRecordsMenu, acSaveRecord, , acMenuVer70 DoCmd.OpenForm "Registration", , , "[Registration]![RegistrationID]=Forms![Attendees]![Attendees Subform].form![RegistrationID]" End If
Exit_RegisterButton_Click: Exit Sub
Err_RegisterButton_Click: MsgBox Err.Description Resume Exit_RegisterButton_Click End Sub
I am attempting to create a form (Access 2013) that will include buttons to open the hyperlink menu to add a hyperlink into a table. It works if you click "Ok" without issue, however, if you click "Cancel" or click on the "X" I get a "Run-time error '2501' - The RunCommand action was cancelled". This is obviously referring to the RunCommand in the VBA code. The code does not reference the cancel or close option of the hyperlink editing box. I don't know how to correct this error.
Code:
Private Sub Command9_Click() Me.[Hyperlink].SetFocus DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdInsertHyperlink Command9_Click_Exit: Exit Sub
[code]....
Also, is there a way to get the hyperlink to populate as the full network path and not the drive letter?
Private Sub Save_Click() If IsNull(cboEmpName) Then MsgBox "Please Select Employee Name" Me.cboEmpName.SetFocus End If If Me.txtNoofDaysWorked.Value = "0" Then MsgBox "Please Enter No of Worked Days"
I have several forms that can be called from more than one other form, but I need to build my forms so that the user is returned to the form from which they started.
I have looked in the help files and FAQ and I can't find what I am looking for.
Please, can someone direct met to the required information or tell me how to achieve this?
The form displays various fields for the user to enter order details.
The subform is populated with all previous deals for the person whose deal is being recorded. This subform is purely for display purposes and the data shown cannot be edited.
The problems I have are:
1) When a user clicks anywhere on the subform. They can tab through the fields or scroll around the subform without any problems. However, when they try to return to the main form, all controls on it appear to be locked.
2) Clicking on the subform removes focus from the main form, so saves the record being edited on the form. This is a big problem, as the order may be in error and/or incomplete. I only want the user to be able to save or cancel the record, using specific buttons on the main form.
Is there any property for the sub form I can set to prevent the above from happening?
Getting error '2450' when click Access close button to exit.
Run-time error '2450': ECN cannot find the referenced form 'frmLogin'.
Note: After login my login form is visible to, cause to get login user id into "frmECN" Form. But When I'm in "frmECN" Form and enter data then close to exit Access main close button I'm getting 2450 error.
I have a button which runs a list of queries that take roughly 10 seconds to run, when another user clicks the button while the other one is running it gives and error message 3405, File already in use.
I have a bound form which opens as a new record. If I accidently press carriage return by mistake whilst entering it goes to another new record, how do I stop this behaviour?
I only want the record to save with the click of a button.
Hi, I am not much familiar with VB Coding.Can any body please help me with this Please:When i click on submit button,it has to show the query results on the Form.Please find the below code:
Private Sub Command_Click() Dim db As DAO.Database Dim rs As DAO.Recordset Dim strSql As String Set db = CurrentDb strSql = "SELECT Interface.[Interface ID], Interface.[Interface Name] from [Interface]" Set rs = db.OpenRecordset(strSql)
Do While Not rs.EOF Debug.Print ("Interface ID: " & rs![Interface ID] & "Interface Name: " & rs![Interface Name]) rs.MoveNext Loop rs.Close db.Close End Sub
####################### It is not retrieving any thing.IF my code is wrong,Please advice me with the necessary steps to view the results on the form,when we clicl on the submit button. Thanks, Kanuri
Is there a common answer or design mistake that would cause a form to return a different (much higher) record set than that if the query is ran by itself. The query is the control source for the form.
