Save Error In Large Table

Jan 18, 2005

I have a table with 140 fields (I know, this is too many). I have a date field that intermittently will not allow data to be entered. There is a pattern to the data it will not accept, but it seems to only occur in certain records and what it will or will not allow seems different in each case. The error I get when I try to save a record is: The search key was not found in any record. I've isolated the error to the level of the table. Have tried compact/repair, removing the index on the field, deleting and recreating the field. Nothing works. Help!

Records To Large Error

Aug 19, 2004

I am using MS Access(2000) as a front end to a MS SQL2000 DB. I set up a table link to one of the tables in the SQL server. The table I am linking to has 242 Fields in it. The table shows 21888 rows of data.

In Access, when I set the record source in a Form to this linked table and go to run (Form) view, I get a "Record to Large" error.

In the SQL table - there is one varchar field that is 17 in length. There are about 5 char fields and the rest are numeric or date.

My questions are:
What is causing this error?
What would be a good work around or other possible solutions?

Thanks.

Property Value Is Too Large. (Error 3309)

Jul 11, 2005

I have developed a Tax Assessment solution using Access 2003, I already have in excess of 150k records, I have 7 tables; 55 queries; 30 forms.

My main table "Transact" has over 175 fields (yep I know its large, but I need all these fields and dont want to create 100's of tables). Since last week I cannot save any definition changes to my table, I keep receiving error 3309. I have searched all discussion groups but cannot find any decent solution.
1. I have not changed the index's, of no duplicates
2. I do not have more than 255 columns in table
3. I have increased the maxlocks substantially
4. run a compact & repair succesfully

What else can I try, as mentioend I am reluctant to split Transact into smaller tables.

Large Query Aggregate Function Error

Sep 15, 2006

Hi guys,

I am completely at a lose here. I have a LARGE sql query that was written before my time and how have the task of customizing it a little. It will run perfectly in Advisor Office (the program it was written for which uses access as the back end db). But if i try and create a query in access directly i get the following error:

You tried to execute a query that does not include the specified expression 'IIF (CommnPremiums.Type IN (1, 2), IIF (CommnEntries.Type IN (1, 4), 'Non Indemnity', IIF (CommnEntries.Type IN (2, 6), 'Indemnity', IIF (CommnEntries.Type = 3, 'Renewal', IIF (CommnEntries.Type = 5, 'Trail', ' ')))),
IIF (CommnPremiums.Type = 3, 'Initial', IIF (CommnPremiums.Type =' as part of an aggregate function

the full IIF statement that is causing it to fail is:

IIF (CommnPremiums.Type IN (1, 2), IIF (CommnEntries.Type IN (1, 4), 'Non Indemnity', IIF (CommnEntries.Type IN (2, 6), 'Indemnity', IIF (CommnEntries.Type = 3, 'Renewal', IIF (CommnEntries.Type = 5, 'Trail', ' ')))),

If I changed the IIF statement to:

'X' as commisiontype

it all works great but i need this information and its driving me mad. I can not see why it doesnt work within Access.

Any and All help would be great.

I have attached the FULL sql query if you want to look at it all.. it hurts my head to read it all ;)

Tables :: Adding Description To A Field - Property Value Is Too Large Error Message

Oct 18, 2012

I keep getting the "Property Value is too large" when I add a description to a field in an existing table.

The same error was resolved on another table by cutting four fields then saving then pasting them back into the table and saving again.

I tried importing the entire DB into a new file, this I still get the error message "Property Value is too large" ...

One Large Table? Or Two Different Ones?

Jan 14, 2007

I have two datasets that I am using. They start off with similar information: sitename, siteprovince, sitecoordinates. They also have 5 more fields that have the same type of information. After that there are about 10 more fields with no overlap.

In the original dBase program they came from they were treated as one dataset.

The current structure I am using is Company, CompanyContact, Transaction, SiteDetails (the dataset I am asking about).

Is it better design to breakup the SiteDetails into SiteTypeA and SiteTypeB? I have everything working in one table, but I thought it might be more effecient to have two.

Why Can't I Save Changes After An Error?

Jul 18, 2006

I previously posted this in one of the other forums, but now believe this to be of a more general nature, and am still without a satisfactory explanation or any workaround:

I'm working on a new database with Access 2003, using the 2002-2003 file format. While debugging a VBA code module in the VB editor, whenever I get a runtime error something strange happens - I stop the debugger, correct the code and attempt to save my changes, and Access displays the message "Microsoft Office Access can't save design changes or save to a new database object because another user has the file open. To save your design changes or to save to a new object, you must have exclusive access to the file." It then persists in denying me the ability to save ANYTHING until I close the VB editor, close the Access application, and then start over again. In fact, there is no other user - all other machines on the network are turned off, and no other instances of Access or the VB editor are open.

Needless to say, this is slowing my development efforts to a crawl, and I'm totally stumped by it - I never remember running into this problem in years of working with Access 97 (where I can hit errors, stop execution, make any needed corrections to code or other objects, and re-run the application, without having to exit). I'm running this on a P4 3.4 GHz box with 1 GB of RAM. Going into Tools, Options, Advanced and switching the "Default open mode" between Shared and Exclusive makes no difference.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Splitting A Large Table Into Many Smaller Ones

Mar 17, 2005

Hi,

To avoid the mind-numbing tedium of have to use make-table queries loads of times, is there a quick (probably VBA-related) way to split a large Access table, of about 350000 records, down into 93 smaller tables, based on a key code field that identifies each group of records e.g. GBW102, GBE999, etc?

Any help much appreciated.

Queries :: Updating A Large Table?

Mar 1, 2015

This really isn't a large table by Access standards, as it has only about 1 million records, but nevertheless it's taking a long time to run the update query. Here's the query:

UPDATE [Db] INNER JOIN [Small Table] ON [Large Table].text1=[Small Table].[text1] SET [Large Table].[text2] = [Small Table].[text2];

[Large Table] has about 1 million records and [Small Table] has 10 records.

All the relevant user/windows permissions are identical. There is no security/permissions settings on the database for it to behave in this manner. Large Table Causing Slow Opening Form

Mar 21, 2006

I have a database with a table that contains 360,000 rows. I built a form with four boxes where a user can specify values to limit the result set. And instead of having a new window open with the results, I built a subform and placed it on the main form to display the results.

Here is how it flows:
Main Form -> user enters search criteria
Search Criteria -> feed as criteria in query
Query Results -> display on subform
Subform -> shows on main form

The query is setup to take the values from the main form and either use it if it's not null, or return all values if the field is null.

The problem I am having is that on opening the main form, Access is taking the four null values from the main form search fields, feeding them to the query, which is then feeding the subform. So 10 minutes later when the main form finally opens, I have 360K records displaying in my subform.

What I would like is to be able to open the main form instantly, specify my search criteria, then run the query, then have the query results populate the subform.

What do I need to do?

Create/Link Smaller Tables To One Large Table

Jun 22, 2005

I am a newbie when it comes to Access and ASP but I am trying. I am in the need for some help.
I have a large table in Access 2003 and need to break it into smaller tables (not using a query) where the fields are the same except each of the smaller, new tables will hold info for a specific person. These smaller tables would need tro be linked to the larger.
Is there an easy way to do this? I need to keep it in tables due to the ASP software I use to generate the asp pages.
Is this possible?
My goal is for each user to be able to only view/edit their data and for the large table to reflect any changes made to the smaller table.
Thanks,
Dan

Modules & VBA :: Metrics Analysis Table - File Too Large

Jul 22, 2013

I am attempting to create a metrics analysis table from another table. What I would like to do is copy the structure (only) from table 1 into a new table. Change all the fields in the new table to text (except for an ID field which would be an autonumber). Then run a seperate group by query against each column, counting the values in each group (i.e. first query would have two fields The grouped column and the column count.

Once I have these values I would like to concatenate them (with the count in parens) and then push these values back into the new table under the appropriate column.

My code does this. I basically loop through a recordset that runs to each column/field groups and counts and then Edits the new table with the concatenated data.

My first table is 170 fields and 38K records. The issue is that it's too much for Access to handle and it blows up (on field 123) Telling me the File is too large. The file does explode to 1G. Then I can shrink it back down to 67mb by running a repair and compact... and then run the the data for the rest of the fields in that table. When I compact again I get about 80Mb.

So now I have two tables, both with an ID field... so I try to link them together (via a make table query) and meld them into one table... but it keep running into that "File Too Large" issue.

How can I have two tables in a database file with a combined size of 80Mb, but when linked together are too large for the database file? Does it have something to do with having all text fields?

I looked up the limits to MS Access and the field count doesn't appear to be an issue since it's nowhere near 255... So what's the problem here?

Table Structure For Large List Of Number Fields

Jul 30, 2015

Have a look at this screenshot from excel.

Basically I would like to capture the quantity in stock for the above list of phones at many stores.

I started out by adding each phone model as a numeric field in tblStock, because I need to obtain the quantity value for each and every model, for each and every store.

Is there a better way to do this? I was thinking of creating just 2 fields, Model and Quantity, then adding each model as a record, then using that record as a sort of template. I wander what would be the drawbacks of this, since with the first method, if a user needs to add a phone not on the list he would have to modify the table design.

Save Operation Failed Error After Decompile

Oct 31, 2007

I'm beginning to lose the will to live over this one. I've been merrily developing a large application (ADP) in Access 2000 and 2003 over the past 5 years. The size of the ADP is now around 30MB and it contains the following quantities of objects:

23 modules
424 forms (409 with modules)
296 reports (284 with modules)

My problem is that whenever I use the decompile switch and then recompile I get the dreaded "The Save Operation Failed" message on saving the code and the whole ADP is then rendered corrupt. My only option is to create a new ADP and import each object type (Modules first, then forms then reports) separately, compiling as I go. This seems to work OK but when I open a file I've been working on in Access 2000 on an Access 2003 PC it seems to decompile it by itself and then won't compact/save. Does anyone have any ideas about this? I've searched Google and can't come up with any reasonable suggestions.

Error '2118' You Must Save The Current Field Before You Run The 'Requery' Action

If the user wants to write a second letter immediately, I get the above message. If they do anything else first, they are OK.
I have tried refreshing the Contacts form & each of the others at various points in the process, explictly saving the record (caused another error) etc. without success.

I then have the option to toggle to a Reallocated or Retired form. When i toggle to the reallocated form, i have the like fields in that table (ie Van #, Vin, Make etc) pulling the info from the hidden subform with the vehicle query, so i do not need to fill in repeat data. However, when i add a reallocated date and the new clinic that vehicle is for, i get the record ID for the vehicle reallocated table as expected, but when i save none of the data moved over from the query saves in the record?

How to get all the data on the reallocated form to save?
