Search Form Based On Query

Nov 24, 2006

Hi people,

i have a search form with a list box. it is based on a query. it works fine for a different project but in this project i need to search for either a perfect match for an ID, or a 'like' match for description, or a like match for the customer.

i want the list box to have the

EventID, Description, CustomerName, CustomerSurname, EventDate

i want to choose which information i enter into the unbound boxes to return results in the list box.

What formulas would i need to enter into my query as a criteria so that it works.

Thanks guys, james

Queries :: Search Query Based On Form?

Nov 13, 2013

I am unable to get multiple search output using the below code in queries, the search text is based on form :

Search form name : Find
Query name : Search
Table name : Sheet1
[forms]![find]![city]

The above works fine if it is only used in one of the fields, but as soon as I have it in multiple fields the output is null.

I am aware that i can used Like "*" code, but the thing I want to find records which are perfectly matching based on the form.

Search Form Based On Two...

Jan 31, 2006

Hey guys I have a question for you. I have two forms, "frmStatementDialog" and "frmStatements" The first form is meant to serve as a pop up that occurs when the frmStatements is open and I have a macro to do just that. The kicker is I have two unbound text boxes in that form for "Month" and "Year".

Now I want to be able to type in that form and hit "OK" and then once it does that it will find all the records in tblAccountsReceivable that have those two items in their respected fields will show up and be displayed in the continuous form, frmStatements. Another catch to this is I want it so that if I add records via this form, the Month and Year are already updated with the previous search information.

Questions that you have to help me? Please ask! This is starting to really frustrate me... I've tried nearly everything I could think of and right now I don't know the best way to explain where I am at so please just assume I'm starting from the beginning.

Thanks a lot for the help!

I have a search form that uses a query to show results of a search, but everytime I press search everything comes up even though I have entered search parameters, even though my search requeries every time and the search used to work before I added new records today. Also when I press the query alone on the navigation pane it asks me for the parameters and then it actually works but it won't when I use my form.

Forms :: How To Run A Query Based On Users Input And Search A Table

Dec 31, 2013

I have a TABLE with the following data:

- EMPID
- LASTNAME

I have a form with the folliwing data:

- text box for user to enter EMPID, txtEMPID
- LASTNAME

I would like to create a button to initiate a query to do the following:

- once the user enters a EMPID in the form, it will search in the TABLE under the EMPID field...
- if the user enters an EMPID that is in the TABLE...display "Y"
- if the user enters an EMPID that is NOT in the table...display "N"
- a error message box needs to pop up if "Y" to alert the user that "the EMPID already exists and that duplicate entries are not allowed"

One of my main questions is how do I run a query based on the users input and search a table? would the following work in the query?

Forms :: Parameter Based Query - Filter A Form Based On Another Form

Mar 20, 2013

I have a form which uses a parameter based query to present an individual senior doctor with a list of names for of individual juniors to provide an assessment report on. When the first form opens the user enters their RespondentID.

Once senior has decided which names to comment on I have another form which has the questions to be answered which is opened by clicking a button on the first form.

How can I pass a parameter from the first form to the second so that only the records relevant to that senior doctor are displayed? The underlying table has 60 senior doctors and 20 junior doctors. The senior doctor is identified by the field RespondentID in the first form. I've tried putting a WhereClause in the FormOpen command but I still get a dialogue box asking for the parameter RespondentID when the second form is opened.

I have a parameter query for which the parameter is based on a form field entry (i wanted to avoid the dialog box popping up).

No problems with this....however, I want to create a chart based on the same query however, i get the following error message because it does not recognise the query parameter.

Error Message: The Microsoft Jet database engine does not recognise '[Forms]![frmChooseDTDate]!DateOccured' as a valid field name or expression.

Can this be resolved?

Search Query In A Form

I have a Search Query based on a Form. It does not retrieve any columns from the table if any column is empty. Why? I thought the & "*" would find all records.

Use Form & Query To Search For Text & Number

May 19, 2006

Hello,

I have a form with a listbox on, the listbox uses a query to populate it, which returns a list of client names. The idea is, when I enter the clients name in a text box, the list is narrowed, through use of the query.

This works fine, and always has - very pleased with it, the problem comes when I decide I want to be able to search on the account number as well - which it always throws errors about.

I am using the following query (posting the sql, hope that is OK)

SELECT tblSafeKeep_Clients.SafeKeepClientID, tblSafeKeep_Clients.Title, tblSafeKeep_Clients.Initials, tblSafeKeep_Clients.Surname, Format(tblSafeKeep_Clients.DesignationNumber,"000000") AS Expr1
FROM tblSafeKeep_Clients
WHERE (((tblSafeKeep_Clients.Surname) Like "*" & [Forms]![frmSafeKeep_SelectClient]![txtSearchText] & "*")) OR (((tblSafeKeep_Clients.DesignationNumber)=[Forms]![frmSafeKeep_SelectClient]![txtSearchText]));

The problem is because I am only using ONE text box, but the surname is (obviously) text, and the account number is (obviously!) a number. SO - it throws a wobbler about it being too complex to evaluate when I try to search for a surname, trying to search for an account number works just fine.

Any ideas how to get around this?

Setting Query Search Criteria From A Form

Oct 30, 2006

Looking to be pointed in the corect direction,

having trouble using a text box on a form to set the search criteria for a particular field within a query.

Ideally i would like to enter the criteria in a textr box then click a button which sets the criteria and opens the query results in a report,

I have designed the query but cant which works if you go into the design and enter the criteria. the problem lies with getting the text box on teh form to set teh criteria.

If i use the expression builder to set the criteria to the same value of the "text" within the "text box" on said form the following happens,

If i open the query itself it opens a small window and displays the "expression" that i entered in the criteia box, above the data entry. the query does work this way but dont understand why the expression is displayed???
The text box on the form also becomes locked, not allowing data to be entered.

I have tried to link the query direct to the text box.
also tried creating a table which has data entered via form then linking the query criteria to a field in the table.

Could some one point me in the right direction please

many thanks

Cheers

Queries :: Wildcard In Query Fed From A Search Form

Jan 9, 2014

I have built a search form to feed information to a query. The form uses combo boxes tied to table values, and all have wild cards built into them so if the user leaves the combo box they get all the records. I also have to text boxes representing start date and end date. I would like to allow the user to leave these blank and get all there as well. I have been looking through my one Access book, as well as searched all over the internet, but I cant seem to find the way to do this. My filter criteria for the text based combo boxes are like this:

Code:
Like "*" & [Forms]![ReportDesignF]![Company] & "*"

My filter criteria for the Start and End Dates looks like this:

Code:
Between [Forms]![ReportDesignF]![StartDate] And [Forms]![ReportDesignF]![EndDate]+#11:59:59 PM#

In this case of the user leaves the date values blank, the query returns nothing. I would like to return all dates if that is the case. I am assuming it is my lack of knowledge of wild cards and how they work with date values.

I want to be able to set what filters I want, and for the query to ignore any fields with no information selected/inputted (i.e. I want to see all records raised by "Mr Smith" (Auditor) that are still 'Active' (Status) in all areas at any time).

Table = 'Incidents'
Form = 'Filtered Search'
Report = 'Filtered Report'
Auditor = 'Combo7'
Status = 'Combo156'
Area = 'Combo5'
Date Range From = 'Text161'
Date Range To = 'Text163'

Making A Search Form And Sending Values To A Query

Nov 9, 2007

Hi, I am a complete idiot with VB/SQL/*anything for that matter*

Made an unbound form to search and retrieve records from a query (parameter query) (for property listings)

I've got the following fields in my "Search_Form"

1) Project (combo box pulls data from projects table)
2) Size (from - to)
3) Rate (from - to)
4) Date (from - to)
5) Price (from - to)

I've set variables for each field .... VAR_sizeFROM....... VAR_sizeTO etc.

Now here's my problem.

1) How do use VB to send the user inputs from my "Search_Form" to "Search_Query". And is it possible for either of the search fields to be blank in the form?

2)How can I do the same for a report?

Please help, I've been stuck with this for some time..

Thanks in advance

Forms :: Form To Search For Multiple Words And Run Query?

Dec 16, 2013

I am having some difficulty putting togather a small database (attached).

Basically I want to be able to search for mutiple words and get the results

There are 3 main columns in the main table

1) Shop
2) Part Number
3) Part Type

Problem 1:I have created a lookup table (with check boxes) for ComboBoxes in a form but I do not know how to connect it so that when I click on the comobo box it gives me the all different (Shop numbers/part number/Part types) to select from.

Problem 2:Once I have made my selection I want to search and run query to show me the results. I know that once multiple items are selected in a combo box they are separated by commas/space, so the search must take that in account.

Other nice to have
1) If Shop 1 is selected then only the parts which were sold from shop 1 to appear in the Part number Box & visavera & same goes for Part type.

2) Ability to do a wildcard search so if I Enter "A" in part number I can see all the resealts

Forms :: How To Add A Search Box To Form Bound To Query Not A Table

Apr 17, 2015

I have a form based on a query. I'd like to add a search box to the top to look up values and then populate the rest of the form. I can't do it with the combo box wizard because the relevant (third) option doesn't show up, I assume that's because the form is based on a query not a table.

Any alternative method of adding a search?

Query Linked To Form, Problems With Blank Search Fields

Mar 20, 2007

I have a query linked to some combo/txt boxes on a form so the user defines which categories he/she is looking for then presses button and query comes up with relevant results. This works fine if the user inputs information that is actually there, but if they leave it blank it goes all wrong.

The statements I have in the query are as follows:

[Forms]![frmStockControlSigned]![comboSupplier]
[Forms]![frmStockControlSigned]![txtPurchaseOrder]
etc.

I thought the solution may be along the lines of this but it does not work:
=if([Forms]![frmStockControlSigned]![txtDate]=Null,[Forms]![frmStockControlSigned]![txtDate],"*")

basically i want to make it so the user does not have to enter criteria into evey box, thus if every search box is left blank it would show all records "*"

Query Linked To Form With Textbox To Search Multiple Fields

May 22, 2006

Right what im after sounds complicated but its quite simple.

I have a client database, in this database each client has 3 skill fields, i also have a form with a listbox and an unbound textboxes that are linked to the query so when the textbox is typed in the listbox updates.

Now ive sorted out the problem of not all fields showing it some of them are blank now the problem is.

When input text into one of the boxes the listupdates, now if theres text in two boxes. and theres data in one of each that matches it will show neither, because the query is looking for data that matches in both fields, now i need partial matches so it will give results of data in both fields.

not understanding fully what i mean?

i have zipped my db, if you open the db then open the form 'MainListRecTrades2nd' and fill in data in both primary and secondary trades that matches from the list you will see.

http://awilderbeast.com/CWSystem.zip

The solution i was thinking of would to have 1 textbox that searches all the fields and displays data from any of the fields in the list

Thanks for any help

When a component is issued to a patient there is a button to push which links to a report that runs a query. The user must enter the unique key for the component at a promt, which ensures the report generated will be for that component only. My question is if there is a way to cpture and use that key automatically when pressing the button. Search Based On Multiple Criteria

May 30, 2006

Hi there i am building a search form and I want it to be able to display results from multiple criteria......Currently I am able to display results in a listbox, whenever the user types in a id number in a text box. So if a user types 63 in the ID text box the record with and ID of 63 will appear in the list box or it will wont if the record does not exist..... What i want to do is be able to search on multiple criteria. Sof if a user wants to search based on a name instead of a id number they woudl be able to. What I am struggling to grasp is how to invoke a OR in the criteria box. So that the list box will display results based on either the ID text box OR the name text box.

Any thoughts?
