Searching In Access Database

Sep 27, 2004

I have a small search page that is very precise. ie. it returns the first record that is the same.
Is there anyway I can make a search form that is a bit fuzzy. ie if i had a field dedicated to the make of a vehicle can I filter it out for that make of vehicle. I've been using a filter, but it all seems rather messie.

Help

Regards

Asperation

PS, on the upside if there is anyone that needs help making a precise search page im happy to paste the code.

I have built a table with text, number and memo fields which i want to be able to search.

What i would like is a form where you can enter details into various fields (eg Title, Author, a field to search all fields, etc) and then display the results in a table in the form below it. Then when the record is double-clicked it opens the record ina new form displaying more details.

Is there a way to do it as i have spent months trying to figure it out and trying to include the sample databases?

Searching A Database; Newbie Question

Mar 13, 2008

Hi there,

I am designing a search tool for a database table which has attributes such as part number, manufacturer's part number, description, etc. Each item in the database has all these attributes associated with it.

When I search, I am trying to allow a popup to occur when I want to access a modified report that has my search results computed. I created a query and a report, added some SQL code to it, etc. I can basically click the report and have my inquiry window come up asking for the part number, but I'm not sure if it's associated with my database because when I put in the #, the report comes up blank.

I right-clicked my Report and look under "Objects that I depend on" and my Queries tree is full of dependencies that point me to my database table. There is, however, still no report with any substance that I can pull up no matter what part # I put in.

Does anyone know what's going on? I know this is really easy and it's driving me crazy cause I've never used Access before. I don't necessarily have time for tutorials and any lesson enrollment since it's for work, and my profession has absolutely nothing to do with this. Ha.

Thanks for any help you may be able to offer.

Richard

Apr 4, 2014

I already have many table for each month , JanuaryT-DisemberT. I'm using simple form to key in data inside that table. Inside to that table (JanuaryT-DisemberT) have project number data i want to notice pop up when i try key in if that project number not valid..

Mike-2014TERG-Valid

FebruariT

Please Help Me To Enhance Access Searching.

Oct 22, 2006

Hi,

I wanted to make Access 2003 search in a faster way.

I have found this software call AZZ cardfile from the internet and it is very small and fast. It has a left panel with a text box for search expression and once you type something it will search straight away and display the results.

Example: If I type John on the left panel box. The right panel will appear:

John G.
Johnny L.
Kelly. John's wife

It will search instantly as I type... very fast.

May I know if Access can do this?

Thanks.

Forms :: Searching Data Using Combo Box On MS Access 2007

Aug 31, 2014

I am new to MS Access database and I am currently developing a DB with search function in a form for an inventory purpose, I have followed some VB codes from the web.

Here is my issue; when I try to search using the configured combo box in the form it gives me these sets of values, here is the screenie //oi57.tinypic.com/24fxwzk.jpg (just add the http: before the forward slashes as the site wont allow me to post images or links yet)

Row source for data: "-1";"Office 2010";0;"Office 2007";1;"Visio 2010";2;"Visio 2007";3;"Project 2010";4;"Project 2007"

and here is the VB code:

If Not IsNull(Me.compName2) Then
strWhere = strWhere & "([Computer Name] Like ""*" & Me.compName2 & "*"") AND "
End If
If Not IsNull(Me.cUser2) Then
strWhere = strWhere & "([Current User] Like ""*" & Me.cUser2 & "*"") AND "

[Code] ...

I just wanted to eliminate the numbers and replace them with the actual values as name. ex. "-1";"Office 2010" instead of (-1) doing the search, it should be the value "Office 2010"

Best Way To Import SQL Database To Local Access Database?

Dec 25, 2005

I'm new to Access and VBA, for the record. What I need to do is copy a SQL database (table structures and records) and save it as a local Access database, so that the user can query and make any changes on the local file without editting the SQL database.

Looking around, it seems like the best option would be to use the TransferDatabase method with the acImport option. Does this sound reasonable, or can someone with more experience suggest a better way to go about it? Thanks.

Using Access's User And Group Accounts Or Using A Login Form To Access Database?

Sep 9, 2005

Using Access's User and Group Accounts or Using a Login Form to access database?

I've been researching on how to make a database secure. How to create User and Group Accounts on access, I see the step by step instructions and tried it out myself.

I also saw some sites where they give an example of a Login Form and how to create one.

My question is do you need to create both. First create the users and groups to permit or deny access to certain forms and then have a login form?

But would that mean that they'd have to login twice? Once when the database opens because it activates the db security that was created and then login again in the login form that was created?

Also when the user logins in and clicks on the cmd button on the form which opens up another from, frmWorkLog, I have an Employee field. This field I want it to have the user's name entered automatically and "locked". So that info, employee name, is extracted from the user's login. So then the user can only see his or her records only and no one elses.

How would I go about creating that. Hope I made my explanation clear.

Thanks in advance.

Locking User Access To Database Objects (MS Access 2000 And 2003)

Apr 15, 2007

I have two database applications and they are:
- the (A) application is for administration use.
- the (B) application is for normal users use.

the idea is that: I made the (A) application for administrators who have full control over the database objects (tables, forms, queries, and so on ...).

the (B) application I have created for normal users who will have only to use forms to insert some data and display data only.

but the two applications has a respective table called "vacation request" table. where I linked them, so the both administrators and users can share the data.

The real question is that: How can I prevent the users from seeing the database objects in their application. I used the database options which have helped me in hidding the database objectives when the users open the application, but unfortunately they managed to access to the database objects by pressing the special keys.

I would like to have an access to the (B) application when I want to make some modifications to the forms and then lock it from users where they only have to use the forms for requesting vacations and view the vacations.

Convert Access 2000 Database To Access 2003

Sep 27, 2006

Hi,

A few years ago I’ve made an access database on access 2000. The problem is that now I’ve installed the office 2003, and I can’t make the database work properly.

At first says that are missing those files: “tshoot.ocx”, “msioff9.ocx” and “msowc.dll”; so, I’ve copy them from another computer using office 2000 and now only complains about “msioff9.ocx” saying that my database contains a reference incomplete to it.

Is there no other way to convert my database do work properly with access 2003? What can I do?

Access 2003 To Access 2007 Split Database

Mar 8, 2007

Hi All,

Background Info: I developed our main department's Access 2003 split database which is on a server for 15+ Users. I've now been given Access 2007 for development -- Users still have 2003. There are also 2 other smaller databases that are not split (.mdb).

Problem: In the split database, I've saved the Application .mdb as 2003, relinked and made a new .mde. But the Users still cannot open the database. (I did this in a copy until I figure out the nuances with 2007.) The 2 other unsplit databases can be saved as 2003 version and Users can open OK.

I'm grateful for any suggestions on working with Access 2007. I've been trying to tackle the ribbon which is a whole other question.

Remote Access To Access 2000 Database

Feb 20, 2008

Hi,

I am doing some computer work for a company that has an Access 2000 application. This app is split up between a program database that contains the forms, reports, etc. and a data database. Both the program database and the data database are located on a Windows 2003 teminal server. There are usually two or three remote users logged into the terminal server, but this number is about to increase to 6 or 7. I am concerned that these user's will all be running the same copy of the program database. I have read that this can lead to performance problems.

I was wondering if anyone hear thought either of the following would be an improvement:

1. Put a separate copy of the program database in each user's profile on the terminal server.

2. Rather than keeping the program database on the terminal server, put a copy of it on each of the remote client pc's. Then set up a VPN connection to the server and use this to link to the data database.

If anyone could tell me if either of these options would lead to improved performance, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance,
Paul

Searching

Jun 25, 2007

Hi, I have two questions which i dont think are two far apart, hence same thread.

First is, how do i make a search text box, that when i click a button searches for what is in that text box, rather than bringing up the find box. It is alright but it always compares it to what was last tabbed, or is the selected tab, and i want it always to compare to another textbox called company name.

secondly. I am often entering entries to the database with the same details. but a different name, how can i have it so that i enter say 4 or 5 names which starts 4 or 5 new records, but then places the rest of the details across all the new records.

THANKS

I want the search function to read a drop down box for a table name, then read two text box's for search criteria then search the table and displat results.

My knowledge of Microsoft Access is limited.

I think I have the theory behind it but not the know how for the coding.

So far I have been able to get it too look at the List Box for the table name then when I hit the search button ive set it to just open the table for now.

but cant get any further, any help would be greatly appreciated.
