I have to make it so user group cannot modify/update/delete data in tables, but con do the same in forms. Yet if I uncheck those in 'permissions' it's not possible to change anything forms either
For some reasons management doesn't want tables to be in diff database
I run a school library database (Access 2003) and want to set up a password logon system so that different users can get at different parts of the program - e.g. Administrator (everything), Librarian (can add and delete records but not change the database design), Student (can only access certain areas, read only).
I've tried using the security wizard to set this up, which seems OK until you then open the database again. I would expect to then get some sort of log-on screen next time I open the database, but instead it opens normally, but then won't let me do anything because I "don't have permission". I had to restore a back-up copy.
I must be missing something obvious here. Is there a place to look for instructions? Couldn't find anything useful in the help screens.
The problem occurs on a WinXP machine with Access 97.
When Access is run as a Power User everything works fine but when it runs under a user account that is a standard "User" non of the wizards function properly.
By changing some file permissions I can get the control, form and report wizards to work but the Import Data wizard still fails.
I'm sure this is a permissions issue and can be fixed by changing the security settings for some registry keys or files, but have no idea which ones.
I am receiving an unexpected message when a user tries to launch a form that the user does not have permission for via the Access Security-Permissions setting that I have configured.
I am trying to set my Access db up so that Guest users can only access 2 Forms - the Switchboard and the Main form. There is a Maintenance Form and I don't want Guest users having access to it.
I have configured Security and created a Group named Guestgrp. I have also created a user named Guest that is assigned to the Users and Guestgrp groups.
The Users group is currently set up with NO permission for any form.
Here are the Guestgrp permissions for the forms, db and tables
The following forms have Open/Run and Read Design permission Switchboard MainForm
The following forms have NO Permissions selected Maintenance Form
The database permission is set to Open/Run
Table permissions The Guest group has Read Design and Read Data permission for all tables
so here is what happens............... My Guest user can log in and launch the Switchboard form and can launch the Main Form from the switchboard. BUT...................... When my Guest user clicks on the Switchboard button for the Maintenance Form, the following message pops up: There was an error executing the command.
Is this the normal way for Access to indicate that the user does NOT have permission to access a form? I am guessing/hoping that it isn't and if configured properly there would be a message indicating that permission is denied or something of that nature.
If anyone has any comments, suggestions on the error in my ways, I appreciate any comments/suggestions/clarifications.
I'm building a DB where I have multiple users. I would like to have all data in 1 table but only give access to records created by the individual user. Is this possible?
Alternatively, if each user has it's own table, how can I report on the sum of all tables.
When I start my database normally, I'm not able to add fields, change chart type, etc, by right clicking in a pivot chart or table. It works when I open the database while holding down the shift key though, so I suppose there is an option in my database somewhere that I have changed, but which one.
I have a database application that I need help securing. My question is that I will need to place the data on the server and the application on each machine. I need to secure the data the sits on the server. I just don't know how. I have already set a password but would like to do something else. Can someone help me please. I don't know what else to do. I don't know much about security.
people can easily bypass the startup 'security' by holding shift. In that way they can see and edit all the tables that are linked to the back-end. Same goes for mde files.
Is there an easy way to prevent users from being able to enter tables. Like a simple password protection without having to set up user accounts and user level security?
Hello all, I am setting up an access 2003 database in a Client/Server configuration. All dat entry is done through queries, forms are not used. I am wondering if it's possible to prevent users in the client database (Or a copy of it) from creating new queries that hang of the linked tables. I want them to hang new queries only from existing queries. This way I can be sure that what they see is always appropriatley filtered. Any ideas?
This is in regards to user security. I'm a relatively new user to Access (and this forum). My company uses Access 2000 and I'm taking over a database thats used by several departments at my company. This database contains sensitive information so I put user security on it using the wizard. Due to the nature of the database, a particular user group needs to have the ability to create new tables. The problem is this: No matter what I do with the user group security settings, I cannot prevent other user groups from creating new tables. Is there a way to prevent certain users from adding a table?
I am in need of some assistance regarding SQL Server ODBC links and security. This is for a project at work...
1) I have an MDB that has linked tables through ODBC to a SQL Server 2000 database. This is how I chose to write this multi-user application (instead of the ADP method).
2) My IT department created a user ID that the application will use to connect to the database. They chose this method instead of having to create many user accounts with varying permissions. I have programmed permissions within the application.
3) After linking the tables through ODBC, it defaults to my Windows User ID for the connection. Because of this, I have used a connection string with the application's User ID/Password and perform a RefreshLink on all linked table definitions on startup to ensure valid connection.
This is successful, but my IT department is seeing that another user is attempting access to the SQL Server database--the username in the LDB/MDW file! This is what I don't understand. If I open the database without going through workgroup security, the word "Admin" is passed and the authentication fails. If my users would login through the MDW file, their user IDs would be passed and again, authentication will fail as they are not valid users (only the application ID would be valid).
What is really going on here? How can I prevent the "Microsoft Access User ID" from being passed through the ODBC link?
Here is a sample of the connection string I'm using: Driver={SQL Server};Server=ServerName;PersistSecurityInfo=Yes; AnsiNPW=No;Database=DBName;Uid=Username;Pwd=Passwo rd;
Hi. I manage to create Users and permissions with no big problem. But before do that, i thought that when i created those permissions some of the users which they will work for, they will not have even a view of TABLES QUERIES FORMS e.t.c How i can hide that from them? I did that by Properties and set the option button to Hidden, but imagine if you have 50 to do that. Then if i go back to do some modifications then is necessary to unhide in order to check. Is another easiest way of prohibiting users to view. Thank you.
I enabled security on an .mdb which included several users that are in the Full Data Users group. After I did this I needed to add a new form to the application, so I logged into the application and added it. However, though the admin group and the Full Permissions group can access it fine, the Full Data Users group cannot. I have double checked all of the settings and have even rebuilt the .mdw file to no avail. Any thoughts?
I have inherited a 2003 db with unknown PIDs for the Group & User security. When trying to alter User details, I'm asked for a PID, so I'm trying to find the PID for the existing users.
I've gone to unhide the systems tables to get a dump of the data & hopefully find the PIDs but no luck so far. There is a Parent ID & if I run a query from the Users DB file, it appears as if it something like japanese writing ???
I've read and gone though quite a few of the scrips and examples for creating logins and security and i'm getting to the stage when i need to have good understanding of the different methods.
Some of the examples whilst create a user login do not really allow for security within the database whilst the build in security wizard would appear to offer that functionality.
I am thinking that I will use the Workgroup file and that method. My question is am i able to utilise the fact that if a person 'AdamA' logs onto the database which is built into the workgroup security file. am I then able to take 'AdamA' to populate a table which records actions by a user? (I can't seem to find any thread or book reference to doing this)
The database has to be handled by a web service and/or a web appliction making the comma delimited option occupy more server time breaking down the string into usable user_ID's. But (and this is probably my actual problem) if i was to impliment my second idea, I'm not sure what I should make the tables primary key or the best way to relate it to the main user table.
My initial thought is to just have a, technicaly useless, ID be the primary key and impliment a one(User) to many(friends entries) relationship... but im a bit of an access n00b so thought i better come ask for some advice.
I have a form (linked to a table). I have 'txtBoxA' and 'txtBoxB'. Now, each record will have different values in 'txtBoxA' and based on that value 'txtBoxB' will change for that specific record. In the 'OnLoad' event for the form I type the code, but when I re-open the form it only works for the 1st record, and it doesn't change all the rest (records). Do I need a loop to go through all the records?? I thought that this was done automatically by ACCESS. If I have to use a loop, can anyone please give me the exact syntax?
Please, this is really urgent so I would really appreciate an answer asap Thank you very much.
I am trying to change the value of a field (well a few fields once I get it to work for one!) in a table.
I am trying to update the last record in a table, but cannot get any code to work in VBA for this and cannot make an update query select just the last record in the table to do it that way either!
The VBA I am using is:
Dim db As Database Dim rst As DAO.Recordset Set db = CurrentDb Set rst = db.OpenRecordset("Inventory Transactions", dbOpenDynaset)
With rst .MoveLast .Edit ![UnitsOrdered] = (Me.UnitsOrdered - Me.Qty_Passed_Insp) .Update End With rst.Close db.Close
Units ordered doesn't change though!
For the update query I am trying the following criteria for the transactionID field:
=max( [Inventory Transactions]![TransactionID] )
But this returns the error message:
"Cannot have aggregate finction in WHERE clause ([Inventory Transactions].TransactionID = Max([Inventory Transactions]![TransactionID]))"
I create one database and the query and the forms for my clients in the sharing drive. Every time, the user open the form and select the field names and then execute the query depend on which fields the user select on the form, and then output to the screen. Here is the question, if there are multi user access the same form/query, one user pickup 3 fields to run the query, and another user pickup 5 fields to run the query. Becuase one user select 3 field names on the form, and then the code will modify the query contents, another user select the 6 field names on the form, and then the code will modify the query contents.
strSQL = "SELECT [Company Name],[Vendor Name],[Account],[Statement Number],[Amount] from [Statements] "
Dim cat As New ADOX.Catalog Dim cmd As New ADODB.Command Dim qry As ADOX.view cat.ActiveConnection = CurrentProject.Connection Set cmd = cat.Views("Statement Informations").Command cmd.CommandText = strSQL Set cat.Views("Statement Informations").Command = cmd
Set cat = Nothing DoCmd.OpenQuery "Statement Informations"
I used the above code to modify the existing query, "Statement Informations".
When I run it, it give out the error message:
Run-time error '3218': Could not update; currently locked.
And then, I went to queries section, and open the query "Statement Informations" directly, close the query, and then run the code again. Then, it works.
I don't know why. If I run it on next machine on other day, then it give out same error.
Can someone tell me how I can change the increment in an existing database.
The PK is currently Auto ID with each new record currently 1001, 1002 and so on.
What I am trying to do is say starting monday the next new entry begins at 5003 versus 1003, in essence I am trying to change my first number to a 5 versus a 1.
Say for instance I have a whole load of IP's in a table in the form of A.B.C.*, where and and B are fixed, C varies slightly and * can be anything from 1-255. Can I use a query to look at an IP and the append an IP record to a different table in the form of A.B.C.0. Basically, modifying the data so that whatever the value of *, it is changed to 0.
I have a report rptTeamPickStats which source is a query qryTeamPickStats
The query has columns such as name, id number etc which are GROUP BY and hours, cases as SUM and there is a DATE field where I originally had a WHERE statement specifying the from and to dates.
I want to be able to modify the where using VB so I don't have to have several queries.
The code below doesn't work (probably won't take you long to realise that) but just to show kind of what I'm after.
I want to query all the TLName where the date is between to dates.
It has happen to me many times that when I create specific queries I'm then not able to modify the values of em...
Do you know the possible causes of this?
Is it because I'm filtering? Ordering by? Grouping? Using fields of differents tables related 1-many? Calculated fields? Expressions? Modules?
----------
One specific case that has presented to me is a query that returns info from 1(main)-many(details) relationship. When I use the sorting of a field of the main table it doesn't allow me to edit values, tho when I delete this sorting it works fine.
Nevertheless, I also have another query which just returns values from one table and whether I use sorting or not, I can modify the values.
