Hi all,
I am having one table with id from 1 to 50. Now I want to return random records from that table using rnd.The point is that is there any funntion like
Select [id] from tblids where id not in (values) with rnd
Can you please help me out--give me some guidance-if you have knowledge about random numbers. Say, for instance, I have 2,000 records and I want to randomly create a final list with 800 of these records, how do I go about it? Thanks.
In my table design view I've set my primary key to auto number and the 'New Values' to random. The problem is, sometimes the numbers generated are too long or negitive. Is there any way I can specify the limit of the numbers to be generated and keep them positive numbers?
I'm designing this database, in which, I have to give each record a unique random (or sequance) number of 5 digits, giving that the first digit must be retrived from another field.
Im trying to make a query which will allow me to run a query update so that all my listings will get a new random number generated for them,
Ive got it selecting any listing with a ID of >0 (so basically thats all of the listings)
What id like it to do is then assign a random number to the randsort field, (prefer a number like 0.812 or 0.342 etc etc)
To start with ive tried using the Rnd feature, but its updating all the listings with exactly the same number (though granted the number changes each time the query is run)
I see in some of the other comments regarding rnd that you may need to put a randomize statement somewhere,
Im very new to programming in access and was just wondering am I on the right track, and if so where abouts should i declare the randomize code since its in a query?
Thanks for your time and look forward to your replies Cheers Ezy
How to generate random project numbers that reset automatically every month? I want to generate project numbers that look like this:
1234/06/12
where the 06/12 stands for the month and the year while the 1234 is a randomly generated number.
I want the random number to be four digits long.
I already have a number of projects with similarly generated projects from an existing database. Can I import these projects without changing their project number?
As part of my job, each month I have to select 20 problem report resolutions and grade them on quality. Typically we have about 100 problem report resolutions per month. Is there a way I can use a query to return a random selection of 20?
I have to review 20 reports each month for quality check. I have a query that lists the reports completed within the past 30 days. Is there a way to filter this query to show only 20 random records?
If there is no way to do this, can you suggest some way of doing this so that it's impartial? For example I don't want to select the first 20 of the month because everyone will catch on and wait late in the month to post their report. Normally about 70 reports are completed in a month.
On a form, is it possible to have #### appear in the form box when it loads and then the user would type a 4 digit number in place of ####.Also, for the table associated with that form, how do I limit account numbers to a 4 digit numeric value?
Apologies for imposing on you all but I was wondering whether or not you could help me out??
Would you be so kind as to kind as to show me a practical example of how to incorporate a facility into my attached Database which serves to select an equal ratio of my field “SectionHeadings” such that out of the 30 “random” questions that it currently generates it will provides me on completion with the following:
5 From Set1 5 From Set2 5 From Set 3 …..etc etc
It currently generates the 30 questions that I need without a problem; however it routinely selects any number of one particular type, sometimes more from one subject and less of another.
All subjects headings are of equal importance to me and as a consequence would be very grateful if you could look at what I’ve already done and show me what needs to be done in order to achieve my aim.
I hope my request is possible - Any help you could give me would be very much appreciated. Thank you very much.
I am fairly new to Access 2013 but am trying to create a query that will select random records from three totally unrelated tables and display the results together as if one table -- think video slot machine wheels. Each table has two fields - ID which is the primary key and NAME. The data in the tables are names of states, names of colors, and types of animals. Each table has a different number of records. My end result is a table that selects X number of random records from each table and displays them side by side like this:
Desired Result: Animal Color State cat red Ohio dog blue Texas fox green Iowa
I have been able to create three individual queries that will pull X number of random records by using:
SELECT TOP 10 Animals.[ID], Animals.[Name] FROM Animals ORDER BY Rnd(-(100000*[ID])*Time()); SELECT TOP 10 Colors.[ID], Colors.[Name] FROM Colors ORDER BY Rnd(-(100000*[ID])*Time()); SELECT TOP 10 States.[ID], States.[LongName] FROM States ORDER BY Rnd(-(100000*[ID])*Time());
Using the three queries above I get three separate lists. how to make one query that will randomly pull from all three tables and make the display above?
I have a database I am using to record financial transactions. I have a transaction edit/entry form that uses combo box lists to select the different segments of my 32 digit account numbers. The issue I am running into is that when I enter a value value in the first box/field the form jumps to the very first record.I then can use the navigation buttons to get back to the last record, and all the subsequent boxes/fields work fine without jumping to a different record.
I'm having multiple problems with my database like things such as -
i'm currently working on the Query 2 - On the Phone database (ignore Query 1) and i want to search for multiple plot numbers preferably in one parameter prompt with a comma to seperate numbers. (this could be a multitude of numbers so i would like to be able to input as many as needed). Also when i do search on this query since the Criteria is a 'Between' Value i would expect everything between the 2 numbers input to show up - but a lot of numbers out of the range show up too - why is this? (The Numbers are like "69 to 136" and they will show up - but 1-69 and 136-170 would too
I would also like to implement the search results from Query 2 into the Form i currently have made but it just opens up a access table when the search is made?
i cannot link my database as it is too big for the server - But here are the Criteria for Query 2:
Plot No - (criteria = Between [Enter First Plot No:] And [Enter Last Plot No:]) Site - (criteria = Like "*" & [Enter Site:] & "*") Product - (criteria = Like "*" & [Enter Product:] & "*"
The Query is the one im most concerned about , i can live without a form.
Ok so in excel I have some numbers that are stored as text. The reason being that they are zip codes and some begin with 0 and excel doesn't want numbers to start with 0....so when I import these into an access field that has an input mask for zip codes...will it convert these correctly since the field is a text with input mask?
I have 2 fields that I would like to automate if possible
One field is called "p/o number" and another field called "line no"
These fields are part of an ordering database
Let say I have 200 items to purchase form 10 suppliers
And form example 20 items from each supplier
What I do at present is put the order number on each line item and the line number
example
p/o number line no
1 1 1 2 1 3
2 1 2 2 2 3 2 4
What I want to do is just put the first po number in the required line . Put the first line number in i.e. "1" and the macro will complete all the p/o numbers and line numbers for me as per the ones marked in red.
I have a small unbound form which has a txt box with code something like =Rnd((20-1+1)*Rnd()+1)) to generate random numbers. When the db and form are first opened the field always contains the same number. Using F9 to refresh will generate another number but it is always the same too.
If the form is closed then reopened (db is not closed) the field will happily generate a random number each time the form is opened or if F9 is used.
I have tried Recalc in numerous events but each time it failed to work. It's late at night here so I'm hoping the morning will bring a clearer outlook???
Was playing around, and when using the Code:Me.txtNum1.Value = Int((51 - 1 + 1) * Rnd + 1) format, I noticed that, with 6 differnet text boxes, that after opening the database, the "random" numbers repeat in the same order. That is, with 6 randomly generated numbers, the first set is always the same and the second the same and so on.
Hi, I have a DB that is basically a big electronic form. Each table is a section of the form and the main central table stores the ID's from the other tables. Most of the relationships are one to one but without referential integrity because sometimes sections need to be skipped.
It's been growing fairly rapidly lately as bit's keep getting added but now a weird deletion problem has started appearing. Every once in a while when a user goes to complete the form (right at the end) it suddenly dissapears. The records in the related "section" tables are still there but the main table storing all the ID's loses the record.
There are NO cascade update/delete's on any of the relationships, also no-error message appears it just goes. I think there is a problem in actually saving the record because I moved a DoCmd.RunCommand acSaveRec command from the complete button to a slightly earlier process and the point at which the record dissapeared also moved.
Does anyone know what may be causing it? It only happens to about 1 in 30 forms and there is no obvious link between the problem and a) the machine it happens on b) the person using it c) the data entered into the form
If it happens the same user can input exactly the same data in exactly the same way and it saves it fine.
It really is random!
People are starting to get really frustrated. I was tring to "sell" the idea to a new department as well and had 15 people sitting in front of a projector when it happened to me. I was mortified
this was working fine but now i get the following error message:
Run-time error '40036' Method 'Item' of object 'Forms' failed
when i debug, it highlights the line Forms![Payment Numbers]![VerificationID].Value = ANumber
the purpose is to get the LastOfVerificationID value from form 1 and then open Payment Numbers, create a new payment number, set verificationID to the new value. this was working fine and without even woring on the forms code, this error has arisen.
With Access 2003 I have a tbl_Orders with the field OrderID set as Autonumber>Long Integer>Random. This produces long strings of numbers both positive and minus. Is it possible to set a certain format such as #### and no less than 0 but no more than 9,999?
i have a query which returns n number of rows. my problem is that i need to display the values in text box which is created automatically according to the number of rows returned in the same page(form).
for example if my query returns 1 row then 1 text box must be automatically created and then the value must be displayed and if my query returns 3 rows then 3 text boxes must be created and then the corresponding three values must be displayed.(on the same page).
I have a multi slect list box (simple) and I need to find and select an item using vba - e.g., the bound column is the ID field and I need to select a specific ID (which will be different each time) as opposed to selecting the 100th record for example. How do I do this?
I have a subform containing a list of Funds and attributes such as Asset Type, Fund Manager, etc.
Currently, I have a textbox, where the the control source is set so that it will be updated with the Asset Type from the subform.
I also have an unbound combo box that contains a list of Asset Types queried from a table via row source, where user can select the Asset Type.
What I would like is when a record is selected from the subform, the Asset Type is selected on the combo box as a default value. User can select another Asset Type if required. How can I do this?
Quick question, how do I have access generate a random number between 1 and 8? I want it to generate either a 1,2,3,4,5,6,7, or 8. (no zero, no nine)
Expr1: Fix(Rnd(8-1)*10*Rnd()) is what I have been using, but this always generates the number 2? I do want the decimals to be rounded to the nearest integer, thus I have Fix.
If someone could please help me, it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.
