Sending Updates To Database To Remote Users

Mar 6, 2008

I just created a fix to an issue found in my database. I need to get this fix to several users in different locations. Does anyone know of a way that I can do that throught email without having to send the complete database?
My fix is meerly an addition of two item in a macro. The end users do not have permision to get into the main database, they only have user rights on a few forms.
Is there a way to create a macro that would, when executed on the remote PCs, delete the old macro and replace with one sent via email? If so, how would that macro be structured?

Any help form the experts would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Pioneer

Sharing Access With Remote Users

Jul 29, 2007

I have developed an application for a friend. We live about 100 miles apart in the UK. The database (Access 2007) works perfectly for us, I input data from various sources and he views the reports I've designed that show him exactly what he wants to see.

Now I want to move to the next phase which is I enter data from my PC at home and he then views the reports on his PC at his home.

Any advice on how I can do this, at low cost,

Hosting The Access File On A Server And Having Multiple Remote Users

Jun 4, 2007

I am making a database to coordinate the activities of my band (how rock and roll!)...

Is there a way I can somehow host the file remotely, and have users (4 total) access that file through their own computer using access, so they can write, edit, delete records?

We have a db at my work that we use like this, accessing from multiple computers, though this is on a network drive.

Front End Updates And Distribution To Users

Dec 27, 2006

Howdy!

I split my db last week and put both front end and back end files in a shared network folder. I backup the db every day to a different folder on the network server and also to my laptop. I usually backup right after a form update so that the latest version of the form is available to users who want to update their local copy of the front end. I've been sending email alerts to the users.

My question is this: What is the best way to (1) make sure my backup updates the front end on the network server and (2) how can I automatically alert users to update to the latest version of the front end?

Thanks gurus!

Multiple Users - Problem Saving Updates

Nov 30, 2005

How do I get access to accept changes made when there are four individuals working in the same continuous form at the same time? In addition, I noticed when a record has been deleted, the view for those viewing the database, the screen displays the word DELETE. How do I get Access to delete the record and not show the word delete?

FYI…I already split the DB and placed the front end on each desktop.

Modules & VBA :: Sending Message To Users Logged Into DB On Different Servers?

Jul 23, 2013

I have some code that when a check box in a table is ticked, sends a pop up message to the users logged in (message is on a hidden form), then it closes the DB after a pre-dtermined period of time.

The problem I'm having is that we are a large site with a about 25 differnet servers that our users log onto via Citrix, when a user is on a different server it isn't displaying the message nor closing the DB down.

trying to achieve this? Or is there a better way to see who is logged in and get a message to them?

I'm using Access 2003 btw

Code I'm using below

Code:
Option Compare Database
Private Sub Form_Load()
Me.TimerIntderval = 10000 ' change to 300000 for about 5 minutes
End Sub
Private Sub Form_Timer()
DoCmd.Close
Application.Quit
End Sub

Multi-user Remote Database

Jun 22, 2005

I am currently attempting to setup a database that will be used by many people. I have the database setup and it is split into a backend (tables and data) and a front end ( forms, queries, etc) which the users will download and use off their own machines. I'm attempting to house the backend on our webserver.

The backend is on our webserver and I'm attempting to link the tables from the front end to this location. I typed in the webaddress into the open menu after selecting the Get External Data --> Link Tables menu item. I am sure that this web address is correct because I copied from my browser (from which I was able to download the database from). After I put in the web address into the open box, I get an error about not a valid file name. Is there something I'm not thinking about? What could be my problem? Is it permissions maybe? Does there need to be something special setup with the backend or my webserver? Any ideas as to do with the problem would be greatly appreciated.

Remote Access To Database On Server

Sep 23, 2005

I have an Access database on my server. My client does not like the idea of having to download the db, make changes, then upload it back. In the past, he has dealt with SQL databases, where you can create an access data project, that will give you a desktop shortcut straight to the database. I was wondering if there was any way to do something similar with an Access database. There is FTP setup for the site and all required permissions are setup. Is there any way to create a desktop shortcut, so he can edit the database in real-time, without having to download and upload? Thanks for any help.

Connect An Access Project With A Remote MDB Or SQL Server Database

Jan 28, 2007

Hi,

I am finishing an Access database for a customer that may want, in a later stage, to have a website(probably ASP) that would connect on the same database. Is that possible? I mean can an Access project on a pc connect to remote database(mdb or SQL server) used by the website?

If so can you give me some quick steps to do so or a good article on it?

Thanks.

General :: Split Database Sharing And Remote Access?

I've just split a database into the front-end and back end components. But how to distribute it further.

Additionally, I need people who have the front end to access the database from their homes, not just from work.

What would I need to use?

Is there anything available for free?

Database Updates

Mar 27, 2006

Back at you guys with hopefully one more question (btw the command button code worked perfectly thanks)

Another thing my database has to be setup for is updates, Roughly 30 people will be using this database and to have them re-copy and paste the new database releases is out of the questions.

Does anyone have experience setting up code that automatically checks the version of the database created and if it differs downloads/installs the new version and the restarts the database so the associate will then be working in the current version?

I am looking to be pointed in the right direction to get this figured out, thanks.

General :: How To Create A Database That Updates Records Automatically

Jul 1, 2015

I want to create a database that keeps track of contributions of members of an association. Every member can voluntarily give a standing order to contribute a fixed amount every month. A member can as well decide to review his/her contribute.

how I can come up with a database that can automatically add the contribution of a member monthly without manual input since the stated contribution is known. So that I can run a report for individual member and the report can capture the every monthly contribution that has been added automatically and shows when ever a member changes his/her contribution amount.

General :: User Updates On Front End Database Not Updating Back End

Nov 12, 2012

I have a Database that has been split into two.

Back-end for all the data.

Front end for all the forms and queries.

The front end has been saved in a accde format and distributed to 20+ users. They have all saved this onto there computers and this is used as an application. The users complete a form on a weekly basis on the application and then save. This then saves into the back end.For some reason I have noticed that a few users submission randomly do not save. For the life of me I cannot understand why.All users have saved them into the back end in the past but every now and then submission for users do not save.

General :: Linked Pivot Tables Prevent Updates To Database

Jul 10, 2012

I have built a database and within it my queries I use for reporting make tables in a separate database. This allows me to work in my data base and update info as needed. My problem is that my make table queries wont run if anyone has one of the report pivot tables open. I have added macros to all the Excel files that pull from the reporting DB but I still have several times when I cannot update because someone is using the pivot table, Is there a way to allow me to update the report DB's while the pivot tables are open? I have tried using manual refresh methods and disabling auto update on open but the result is the same.

Sending A Database On After Security Has Been Implemented

Mar 10, 2007

About 3 years ago I created a membership tracking database for a club I belong to. It was handed off by me and used by two different membership directors. After this length of time the club decided there were other options that needed to be added to the database so I have re-designed it. In getting the database back for revision I found it to be a mess after 3 different people had gone into the objects making changes and basically making it worse than what it was. At the time I created it I did not implement any security into it.

So security was in order for prying eyes and hands (something I had never done)....after creating a new workgroup and admin and user accounts I've applied permissions to the user level account limiting their access to objects so they can't be changed. All they basically see is the switchboard and a membership information input form. I also went into "Startup" and unchecked all the boxes. I followed and implemented the "disable shift key" posted by MadMaxx (thanks, Max!) as a module with two macros that enable/disable it. The enable option is hidden on the switchboard (which, by the way, works great!).

Note that the database is not used on a network but on one individual's personal PC in their home. It appears to me that because I have made a new workgroup and applied permissions for the admin and user that I cannot create a MDE file (which is grayed out).

Is creating a MDE file a security alternative to creating a workgroup with respective admin and user permissions to keep unauthorized eyes and hands out of the objects? (the membership director's husband feels he is God's gift to Access designers...I've seen his work...he isn't)

When I hand off the database to the club will the database (as it sits as a MDB file) retain all the security implemented if the system.mdw file ISN'T included or is the security I've implemented internally embedded in the (one file) database?

Thanks in advance for any input!

Rod

Remote Access To Access 2000 Database

Feb 20, 2008

Hi,

I am doing some computer work for a company that has an Access 2000 application. This app is split up between a program database that contains the forms, reports, etc. and a data database. Both the program database and the data database are located on a Windows 2003 teminal server. There are usually two or three remote users logged into the terminal server, but this number is about to increase to 6 or 7. I am concerned that these user's will all be running the same copy of the program database. I have read that this can lead to performance problems.

I was wondering if anyone hear thought either of the following would be an improvement:

1. Put a separate copy of the program database in each user's profile on the terminal server.

2. Rather than keeping the program database on the terminal server, put a copy of it on each of the remote client pc's. Then set up a VPN connection to the server and use this to link to the data database.

If anyone could tell me if either of these options would lead to improved performance, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance,
Paul

Modules & VBA :: Updating Database - Sending OLE Object Through Email

Jan 23, 2014

I am currently updating an Access database, any way to send an OLE Object (in this case an Excel Spreadsheet) as an attachment to an email address using VBA code? I made a form that shows the Excel Spreadsheet when the record is brought up, but I need to know how to send just the Excel Spreadsheet and not the other information on the form.

Also, if there is an alternate way to have an Excel spreadsheet embedded into an Access form, i'm open to change. The user wants to be able to see the Excel spreadsheet and send it to their supervisor without having to locate the Excel spreadsheet on the hard drive.

Multiple Users One Database

May 8, 2007

Hi Guys

I wonder if anyone could give me some advice on a problem i have with an access database.

I have designed a database and a data input form to collect data that is input by workers, the problem i have is that only one person can enter a record at a time.

I curently use 2 replicated database's on two seperate computers and run the synchronisation once one person has finished so that all the changes are replicated to the 2 different databases

If there is any other easier way to accomplish this i would be very greatful if anybody can shed some light on the subject.

Thanks

Database Not Working For Some Users

Aug 7, 2007

I am having a problem that I have never encountered before and thought I start here. Using Access 2003
I have a database that resides on a main computer and my users connect via the network to this database. On my forms I have command buttons that run simple macros to copy and paste data from one field into another. The macro contains a GOTOCONTROL, to copy the contents and then moves to the next field. Then I have SEND KEYS command and wait is set to yes, then PASTE. When they press the command button it seems like the SENDKEYS is not waiting then the macro halts becuse it is saying the COPY command is not available. This happens to all users except for one. That other user is also connected to the database via the network. I checked the OPTION for all the computers that are connected and they all match to the one computer that works. The one computer that does work is the one that was used to write the database but the databse is now on another computer that is always on. The funny thing is that if I were to change any option under Forms/Reports, the macro's will work for a while then stop. I did do a compact and repair several times but this has no effect. Sorry for rambling but I am just frustrated because this databse worked fine at another account of mine and I just can't figure out why this is happening.
Thanks in advance for your reply.

I now haw 2 laptops that work and 2 desktops and 1 laptop that don't.

How To Limit Users In A Database

Oct 27, 2006

I have a small database for doing some tracking and some reporting. I want to be able to allow everyone to view the data and also to print reports. However, I also need to limit who is able to enter data into this application.

I don't want to build a login form for the application...I want to be able to limit users based on their Windows Login name, which I would have in a table. The first thing I would do is compare their Windows login name against the table, and then put in code such as "If table name = suchandsuch then you can't do suchandsuch, but if tablename = blahblah then you can do something."

Is something like this doable? If so, how might I go about getting started with this train of thought?

Thanks to any and all who respond..... I appreciate your time and knowledge!!

I have a database set up that utilizes the user level security offered by Access. So basically everyone logs into the database, entering their user name and password.

Is there a way that I can log the currentuser() to a table when they sign in? And is it possible to assign a time stamp as well?

Any help or direction is much appreciated.
