We have shared MDE, when second user opens gets message: [B]You do not have exclusive access to the database at this time. If you proceed to make changes, you may not be able to save them later.
The message seems to repeat for each compiled object (Form, Report and Module).
Helptext states occurs when in design mode - but not in design mode!
Any ideas as to how we can suppress the warning?
I have an Access DB that 3 different Analysts use on a daily basis. I need to be able to have more than one person in the DB and be able to design Reports, Querry's, and Tables. If I try to open the DB, and someone else already has it open, I am unable to modify the design of anything. Anyone know a way around this?
I was just wondering what the drawbacks for using Shared and exclusive databases. id like to create a shared database but has anyone come across any problems?
what happens when 2 people at the same time access the same row and save at the same time? is the first persons work get overwritten?
When I try to open a report or a form in a database I've been working on for the past couple of days, a dialogue box pops up saying that I "do not have exclusive access to the database at this time". Does this mean that I can't access these form because someone else has the database open? I sent a zipped copy of the database to a fellow coworker in zipped format and we work on a common company server, could him having the db open cause this problem?
I have a problem which is really REALLY annoying me.
I have created a brand new Access database. I have created a number of forms. When I run the database and use it everything is ok. Then when I try to go into design mode it says
"You do not have exclusive access to the database at this time...."
The database is on my laptop and it is only me who is using it. Can ayone please help.
I have a small dabase shared by 4 users on the network. when someone opens the db, then someone else opens it there is no problem. when user 1 has a report open and user 2 tries to update a record, user 2 gets the following error
You do not have exlcusive access to the database at this time. If you proceed to make changes you may not be able to save them later
I have split the database into 2 seperate Db's one is the tables only the other is the objects.
I have just had a very frustrating morning. Recently upgraded to MS Access 2003. started having a strange problem, MS Access kept notifying me a another user was using the access database I was in. I switched off and rebooted, still the same..... ?
Read a bit on the Internet, checked my settings, made sure I was exclusive user, made sure user was set to owner, Rebooted, still the same.
I noticed that occasionally the *.ldb file would suddenly appear when I've tried to move or copy a database in explorer from one folder to another? Something was shadowing me, something was recording when I was using an MS Access database.
I checked to see if I had inadvertently added any strange Add-in's, none Listed. I checked visual source safe, I haven't set that up yet it's not doing anything.
Then I remembered! I had installed MS Access crawler which works with Google desktop to record where your MS Access files are. I uninstalled access crawler and I have not had any problems since.
I have inheritted a database that works very well. I need to change addresses on some of the Reports and make some changes to the forms but I am having extreme difficulty in obtaining exclusive access because I do not have the correct permissions. I have spoken to the originator who says he didn't set any secirity on it. Can anyone help me either get permission to edit it or get the database working by some other means.
I was just wondering if anyone can explain to me the difference between setting the database to open in shared mode in the Tools-->Options menu vs. checking or unchecking the Open Exclusive box under the user security section? Is it just two different ways to do the same thing or are there different implications for using one over the other?
ok, i came across a similar problem in another part of my database.. this error "runtime error 3008, the table bookings is already opened exclusively by another user"
this is the general problem..
table1 (stores main details)
query1 (uses fields from table1 to show selected records based on criteria)
form1 (data entry form for table1.. recordset for the Form set to table1)
mainform1 (just a blank form with an open form button which opens form1 and allows records to be entered)
now... i basically wanted to display the results of query1 in a listbox , and place that listbox on my mainform1)
i can view the results in the listbox from the query1 (which is based on table1 remember).. but as soon as i click the openform1 button, it tells me i dont have access..
that means that because i am using a query, based on table1 on my main form, it does not let me access table1 directly...
how can this matter be resolved generally? is there like a general solution to this problem because it keeps propping up..
I have a problem related to shared access to a MDB file:
- I designed an Acccess Database and need shared access to everybody for read forms , and also I need (just for me) to do some "real time" modifications in the tables. I work in a huge company and cannot make changes in the Access of each user, just can work on my laptop. The file is placed in a shared folder.
- I can assign policies to the folders (for example I made a read only folder, with admin rights for me, but when somebody opened the mdb, I got an 'open only advice, and couldn't update any table; It's curious because the users coudn't generate the LDB file but still the access denied me the chance to modify any table when the file is opened by anybody).
- I tried playing with tools-security, but I cannot change every user settings, it didn't helped me.
I've been looking for related links to this problem but still I couldn't solve it. And at this point I wonder if it's just possible to do that?
I'm trying to get one database to be shared by multiple users so that the file on the server is always updated as others add new records....in real time. Is there a way for this to work? What settings will I need?
I've a BE/FE database where the BE is on the server and the FE on different PCs. I have got linked tables in my FE and the connection between them and the BE is correct; however, users cannot view data entered by others. They can only view data entered by themselves!!
I'm not sure if the records are getting locked that's why they can't see others inputs.
I designed a combox and also set the property of 'limited to list' to yes. I also declared the function NotInList with my own message box. But, the MS-Access default warning message box still comes up after displaying my one.
If I turned the property of 'limited to list' to no, it can trigger the function at all.
Does anyone here have any idea on how to turn the system default warning message box off?
I have an ACCESS 2003 application with front end in the local machine and backend on the shared network drive. I mapped this drive to E: in my computer and all my linked tables show the E:folernameDatabasename.mdb as the source.
When I install this application in an other computer where they have mapped the same drive to F: , I am getting error that says "E:foldernameDatabasename.mdb" not found. How can use absolute network drive(like \cscrd eamfoldernamedatabasename.mdb) name to link the tables?
I am very new to VBA. I found some code that will allow me to add an appointment to my personal calendar with using access VBA and it works great. It also allows me to add an appointment to another calendar created under "My Calendars" folder.
I wanted to know how to change the code in order to add the appointment to the SHARED calendar instead.
The main folder is called "Shared Calendars" which is at the same level as the default "My Calendars" folder. Under the "Shared Calendars" folder the calendar is called "Tester".
Here is the code im using at the moment: I believe I have have to change the line of code that is in red but I don't know how.
Private Sub cmdAddAppt_Click() On Error GoTo cmdAddAppt_Err Dim outobj As Outlook.Application Dim outappt As Outlook.AppointmentItem Dim olNS As Outlook.NameSpace
Every time I open a database, no matter than I've opened it before, it asks opening blalala.mbd maybe harmful to your computer. Is there some way to stop that message? I went searching around in tools customize and nothing.
I have read through the various posting regarding ACCESS 2003 security warnings. As like everyone else, I receive a security warning stating, “This file may not be safe if it contains code that was intended to harm your computer.” I have already installed Microsoft Jet 4.0 Service Pack 8 and I have already enabled sandbox mode. This warning still appears when I try to open databases sent to me by other people. It also appears when I try to create a new database from my own computer. I understand why this message may appear when I open other peoples’ databases, but why would this error message appear on my own computer after I create a database from the very same computer? I would like to market my databases to specific clients, but I need to eliminate the security warnings that would appear each time they opened my databases from their computers. I don’t want to suggest that people change their security levels to low in order to open my database. For this reason, I am considering the option of digitally signing my databases with an authenticated signature. As something like this would run anywhere up to about $400.00, I want to make sure that it would be the best, and correct, option for me. My ultimate question: If I am already trying to create databases from my own computer and receive this warning message, would a digital certificate work in eliminating the error message for my future clients? Also, I understand that I may use the signatures for up to a year. Would I be able to use this for multiple databases that I create as long as it’s within that one year, or would I only be able to sign one specific database and use that same database for the entire year? This is a bit of a pricey endeavor for me, so if there are any other options, I’d love to hear those, too. Thank for the help in advance!
i was wondering if anyone might be able to help me out here. I've been spending hours but to no avail. It seems to be a very trivial problem but i'm just out of luck.
I've been getting this pop-up message everytime i try to open up an access application such as .mdb files.
Open file - Security Warning Do you want to open this file ... two buttons: Open & Cancel
My question is if there is a way to turn it off or disable this warning from popping up when opening an access application.
I apologise if this has been answered, I couldn't find anywhere else on the forum.
On the data access page it gives an annoying warning that says 'This website is using your identity to access a data source. If you trust this website, click OK to continue, otherwise click cancel'.
Is there a way I can suppress this message? It looked cool at the start, but now it's just annoying....
I wonder if anyone here might be able to help me out here. I've been pondering this issue for so long and i was almost giving up.
I've been getting this warning everytime i open up an Access file (.MDB) especially, when trying to open up a file that's sitting on another computers. i have a few computers and they are set up in a peer to peer environment.
I took a printscreen of the warning message and attached it to this post. Please take a look at it. It's called "access.jpg"
Is there any way of turning it off? is it to do with the peer to peer networking?
When I open my DB (I use Access 2003), Access flashes a window 'Security warning : This file may not be safe if it contains code that was intended to harm your computer. Do you want to open this file or cancel the operation?' How do I stop this annoying message so that my DB opens directly?
I have an Access 2010 db on a shared network drive. All users accessing the db are running Windows 7 OS and have a licensed corporate version of Access 2010. The advanced options "Shared", "Edited record" and "Open dabases by using record-level locking" are turned on. Additionally, the locking time limits are set to their default levels. If a user selects the save icon after making additions or updates, the following waring message appears:
Costar Job Database can't save design changes or save to a new database object because another user has the file open. To save you design changes or to save to a new object, you must have exclusive access to the file.Since I developed the db, I am the only one that makes design or object changes. I know that users don't need to select the save icon to update the db, but I don't want them to "freak out" if they select save and see the message. Is there any way to prevent the message from being displayed?
I have an Access DB shared through a network folder. It is currently frozen and showing a record lock, however, none of the users have it open. Is there a way to kill the lock so I can restore it?
