I have two combo boxes that exist on a form record (i.e. two combo boxes for every record on the continuous form): mainCategory and subCategory.
Currently, I can choose a mainCategory and depending on the mainCategory, I have certain values available for the subCategory.
What I want to do is only show the values that have not been used for the subCategory (the mainCategory can always show its default value).
An example of what I mean is below...
The comboboxes and their row data:
mainCategory (combobox)
-------------
A (combobox rows)
B
C
subCategory (combobox)
-----------
for A: 1, 2, 3 (row for the selected mainCategory)
for B: I, II, III, IV
for C: red, blue
Sample scenario:
1. For the first record on the form, a user selects "A" from mainCategory and "1" from the subCategory for "A".
2. The user adds a new record to the form
3. For this new (2nd) record on the form, a user selects "A" from mainCategory and can only select "2" or "3" from the subCategory combobox. The "1" from the subCategory combobox is no longer available for choosing, unless the user changes the first record's "1" in subCategory to another value.
Hi Was wondering if someone can guide me in the right direction. this is my first post.
I have a form with a combo box listing 900 pupils but the list is in no particular order. How can I sort the surnames in alphabetical order and for those changes to reflect on my form.
The problem I am having is I can sort it out in alphabetic order but the changes dont reflect onto the main form.
I have created a combo box which lists companys, when i click on a certain company it brings all records for that company but underneath the last record it shows all the other records on the form.
How do i get it to only show the records for that company only.
I'm looking to select name of a hospital from "HospName" from a list box. If no, then at least to write the name and the rest I'll get it associated with the name.
Then I need to know if I can put this in a form so the form asks same criteria?
Is there a way to query any system tables to list all tables that are being referenced in any queries, forms, reports, modules, etc.? We've inherited a rather large Access application containing some tables that we suspect aren't being used at all by the application, and we'd like to verify this suspicion before deleting these tables.
I am looking to transfer a number of spreadsheets that I use to track IP Addresses to an Access Database, I have set up the tables and fields, what I would like to do is search for unused IP Addresses from populated table/fields.
I have the following code attached to "mouse down" on a combo box. The code works just fine. All the values are available in the list. However, when I select a value, the combo box will not show it! why?!
The code Private Sub List_Reports_MouseDown(Button As Integer, Shift As Integer, X As Single, Y As Single) Dim obj As AccessObject Dim dbs As Object
Set dbs = Application.CurrentProject For Each obj In dbs.AllReports If UCase(Mid(obj.Name, 1, 6)) = "REPORT" Then List_Reports.AddItem (obj.Name) End If Next obj End Sub
I have data from a survey with qualitative responses. For a single qualitative question, I moved the ID & responses into a new table and categorized the response according to a bucket/theme, where each column is a new bucket. I now have 10 columns. Each response is represented in 1 or more columns. I used an excel formula to copy the response data into the column itself.
Example:
A1 // B1// C1 // D1// E1//... L1 ID // Response // Cats // Dogs // Elephants //.... Column 10 1 // I like cats // I like cats //(null)//(null)// ... (null)// 2 // I like cats and dogs // I like cats and dogs // I like cats and dogs //(null)//..// 3 // etc.
However, now I'm realizing that Access always wants to show data for all records, or at most I can limit using a WHERE clause in my query.I want to use Access to generate this report:
1. Section 1: Show all responses from the Cats bucket where there is data 2. Section 2: Show all responses from the Dogs bucket where there is data 3. and so on
I know how to do summary values, and I know how to do filtering that apply across the whole report, but this seems like more advanced filtering, where I want to see selective details differently for each field.
I apologise if this is a common question, but I didn't really know how to word the search!
I have a form with a person selector combo, and an asset selector combo. I would like the person combo to show everyone, but the asset combo to ONLY show those that havn't already been assigned to someone else.
I have a combo box set up to select a product and put the price into a text box. I am getting the cost showing up in the text box Therapy_Cost just fine, but the combo box itself does not display anything after I select something. If I remove the AfterUpdate, I do get the item displaying in the combo box, but, of course, don't get the price in the text box. Here are the details. Can anyone help?
Combo Box Name: Therapy_Type Control Source: Therapy_Cost Row Source: SELECT Purchase_Items.ItemID, Purchase_Items.Item_Name, Purchase_Items.Item_Cost FROM Purchase_Items WHERE (((Purchase_Items.Item_Type)="2")); Number of Columns: 4 (In this order - ID, Type, Name, Cost) Bound Column: 1 Column Widths: 0";0";1";0" AfterUpdate: Private Sub Therapy_Type_AfterUpdate() Me!Therapy_Cost = Me!Therapy_Type.Column(3) End Sub
How do you display the names of field for a table in a combo box. I know how to do it in mySQL "DESCRIBE employee_data", is there a SQL command in access to do this?
I have a feeling this is a common and probably easy question, but I couldn't find anything on it in the forums.
I have a main customer form with multiple subforms on it to keep track of my clients insurance policies and claims. I enter their contact data in the main form, and the policy data on one of the subforms. Then when they have a claim, I enter the policy information on the claim subform as well.
How could I have the combo boxes in the claims subform (which is storing data in a claims table) only show the policy numbers (stored in a policies table) assigned to that particular person? I would assume I need to somehow filter the policies query so it only shows records for that particular person, but I'm not sure how to do that on the fly.
I have made a few cascading combo-boxes that dynamically change based on the data entered into the field above them.. Example:
A SKU is entered, the combo-boxes pull the information for that sku from one or more tables (using SQL Query).
Now... I am having trouble getting these fields to show the first item in the list of possible item specifics. Everything comes in fine, however, I need to form to refresh and repopulate the fields one the SKU loses focus.
I'm using access 2007. I'm trying to get a combo box on a form to show or hide an image on a report based on the combo box's value. It seemed simple, but I've tried lots of codes.
Im kinda new to Access and only been using the "Access 2003 for Dummies" for learning and making small databases. So far I can find out how to do the things I want, but recently got stuck with a combo box feature. What im trying to do is select entries in my combo box so that it will filter the table and show all its contents based on that filter. Im not sure how to link the combo boxes the right way and it seems some VB coding is needed which I dont normally use. If anyone has any idea how to do it, tell me how! Thanks. BTW im using Access 97.
This sounds like a cascading combo box issue but it isn't quite.
I filter my form using 2 unbound combo boxes which can be used in any order, both of which define text strings using case select. These strings are concatenated into a filter text and applied by a routine called in the after update event of either combo. All works well.
My question: How can I show all the filtered records in a third combo box so that users can easily select the record of interest from the filtered set?
I attempted to define SQL for each combination of the 2 comboboxes but it was getting ludicrously complicated so that got the heave ho.
After that, I attempted to use a recordset clone, but I couldn't get this to work: 'Clone record set for combo box rowsource Dim R As Recordset Set R = Me.RecordsetClone R.Bookmark = Me.Bookmark
'Populate combo box with recordset With Me![cboProjectList] .RowSource = R .Requery End With
Reading the Access help, it seems that a combo box can only be populted via query, table or SQL. Is there any way of using a cloned recordset or the me.filter to show the filtered form records in a combo or list box?
On my Class form when assigning students there is a combo box which shows the students names. Once a student is picked in the combo box their name shows up in the subform.
What I would like is a way to NOT show a student in the combo box after they have been selected. Is this possible? Or should I be looking at another way of doing this?
I've used this guide [URL] .... to only show unique values in a combo box. I can't get it to work, it just shows a load of blank values. If I run the expression builder part from the background, it works but it doesn't work in the combo box. Not sure what I can post to give more details?
I have three identical Combo Boxes which show the names of the classes in our school. They are just three copies of the same combo box. What I want is this: I choose three different classes from these three boxes. Then I want a button at the bottom which when pressed, should show the records of these three classes separately. Preferably, as three columns.I have made the Combo Boxes, but am stuck at the button to perform these actions.
I have a AUCTION form, it has a combo box and the label for this combo box is called seller. This combo box is a look up to the USER table which has the following fields:
uid, uname, city, state
The combo box is pulling and displaying a drop down list of uname from the USER table, with this SQL state in the "row source".
Code: SELECT user.uname FROM [user] ORDER BY user.uname;
In the control source of this combo box I have seller, and the form's record source is AUCTION, tagging on the AUCTION table.
The problem is the form is putting the uname into the AUCTION table's seller field, but I want it to input the uid field, however that it should still show the uname list when the user click on the combo box to make a selection.
Is it possible in access 2010 to create a a query that only shows a text box if a combo box criteria is met?
Example: On a form there is a combobox (Result) that can either be negative or positive. If the value is Negative then a query is already setup that populates a mailmerge with some text. If Results=Positive can a query be created that will show the textbox (Data). It only needs to show if the positive criteria is met.
I have a form that has four combo boxes on it that enable the user to select entrants in a golf tournament for tee off times and tee. (I have attached part of this database to this post) It all works fine but after selecting the first player in the first combo box and then selecting the second combo player I would like the player selected previously not to show up. Is this possible or do I have to rethink the way players are selected.
