Showing Null Values When Calculating Days Passed?
Feb 24, 2012
I am using workdays to calculate time passed between two dates. I also have a table for Holidays that I don't want counted as work days. This is working well, but I would like my queries to show a null value instead of showing #Error when a date field is empty. Here is my coding in my Module.
Option Compare Database
Option Explicit
Public Function Workdays(ByRef startDate As Date, _
ByRef endDate As Date, _
Optional ByVal strHolidays As String = "Holidays" _
) As Integer

I have a chart that shows the amount of complaints every month in the last year of a selected costumer. The goal is to see if the amount of complaints from this costumer is decreasing or increasing.
The problem is that some smaller costumers have months without complaints (in real life that isn’t that bad). But my graph only displays a dot for the months were the amount of complaints is not null. This makes that the graph line doesn’t show the complete picture.
I know that I should be able to solve this with an ISNULL expression. I have tried the following SQL code as Row Source of the graph:
SELECT (Format([Complaintdate],"MMM 'YY")), ISNULL(Count([Complaintnumber])),0 AS [CountOfComplaintnumber] FROM [Complaints] WHERE [Complaintdate] > (Date() -365) AND [Costumername] = Forms!Report_complaintscostumer!Combocustumername GROUP BY (Year([Complaintdate])*12 + Month([Complaintdate])-1),(Format([Complaintdate],"MMM 'YY"));
The result of this is that all the months with complaints now get a 0 value and still the months without complaints aren’t shown.
What am I doing wrong? Could someone help me solve this problem? Any help is greatly appreciated!

I have a list of departments, 1-17, where each needs a SUM of their price for each end of day.
At first I was going to make 17 queries, and place each into a new sub-report, but there must be a way to list all 17, even if they haven't had a sale put through.
I've tried linking using "show all values in tblDept and only those that match in tblOrder" - but I cam across a very obvious issue.
The items are grouped by Z1 Number, a unique number for the end of day sales. If there is no department linked to a Z1 number, then it won't show it. For example, if there were no sales in dept01, then there is no record under tblOrder to show a Z1 number for dept01 - so there is nothing to link to in the report.
I was then thinking of creating false data at the end of day so the Z1 number mentioned each department at least once, but that would get messy and not 'normal'
I'm thinking of a type of loop to generate the report so a 17 row report is generated,

I'm trying to create an expression to calculate percentage.
The fields, Value A and Value B might both have null values, but I do not want Access to treat nulls as zero (as in the Nz() fn). How do I get the expression to exclude any nulls and not calculate for those rows, but set the calculated value for a row with null A or B to zero.
I want it to set no calculated value to zero so I don't get overflow errors and can therefore order the data by the calculated field.

I need to calculate the passed working days and show them in a form. I should be also able to use the number in a query later on. in excel I use the formula to get the days passed:
Code:
=IF(ISERROR(MATCH(F10,Dictionary!C:C,0)),NETWORKDAYS(D10, TODAY(), Dictionary!$E$2:$E$43),"Status Excluded")
D = "Date_uploaded" in access table "tbl_All_Cases"
F = "Status_Case" in access table "tbl_All_Cases"
c:c = dictionary case status
E:E = dictionary holidays
"Status Excluded" will show up in the cell if a case has one of the status from the dictionary..I created a table: tbl_Dictionary where there are 2 fields: "Case_Status" and "Holidays".How can I translate the above formula into something that access will understand?

Client has asked me to create a report showing summary of monthly sales by day. That was easy. I created a query for the month the user selected and then summarized and group the data by day. Client like the result but would like to see zeros on the report for non sales days. Non sales days are days like holidays and there are no sales.
I am thinking of creating an table with 31 days of zero values and then join the two tables in a query? Or, should I create a temporary table with code and then merge the two tables which the existing query which I can then use for the report?

I have four date/time fields and I need to determine the number of days and the number of hours between them based on report date range. The Days need to be in one field and the hours in another field. I have tried DateDiff function with an IIF condition and get the following negative value in Expr1. If I remove the IIF condition then I get a positive value.
If the date in field 1 is less than field 3, the days and hours need to be calculated field 2- field 3 as long as field 2 is less than or equal to field 4. If field 2 is null and if the date in field 1 is less than field 3, the days and hours need to be calculated field 2-3 but if field 1 is less than field 3 the calculation would be field 4- field 1. When both dates are within the report range then DateDiff works fine.
Adm Date [/U](f1) D/C Date/Time (f2) Beg Report (f3) End Report (f4) Expr1
I could e-mail the table with sample dates if this would help
Can anyone assist me with this formula?????:mad:

I have a form with two date fields: "Initiation_date", and "Correction_date". There is a third field called "Duration". I would like to store the values of all three fields in the corresponding table. "Duration" (Long Integer) would be the number of days from "Initiation_Date" to "Correction_Date" if Correction date is there, or to Date() if Correction date is Null.
I can use an unbound text box to get "Duration_cal" using the following as a control source:
=IIf(IsNull([VCor_date]),DateDiff("d",[VInit_date],Date()),DateDiff("d",[VInit_date],[VCor_date]))
But I cannot get that value (No.of Days) in to the "Duration" field. The reason I want to have "Duration" stored as a number is that it is being used in a query for another calculation (total days used for selected records).
Is there a simple way to accomplish this?
Thanks

I'm trying to breakdown a date into years, months, and days. Simple right?
The code I've been using for months returns a negative month if it happens to be the next month. Instead of returning 1 Year, 1 Month, 23 Days, it will instead return 1 Year, -1 Month, 23 Days.
Code is:
Code:
Months: IIf(IsNull([TIR]),0,IIf(Day([TIR])<=Day(Date()),DateDiff("m",[TIR],Date())-[Years]*12,DateDiff("m",[TIR],Date())-[Years]*12-1))

I am trying to calculate the number of days between incidents.
If I have an incident that happened on the 10th August and another on the 15th August then this would be 5 days, the next incident occurred on the 28th August so that would be 13 days. The problem I am having is how to get access to use the latest date rather than the first date.

I have form which automatically takes a start value for today the fieldname is Date.
Now what I want to do is calculate the difference between Date and Today's date in days with 2 criteria's
Ist criteria will be choosing the field which has a boolean field named Was Issue Resolved and has value as Null or False and
2nd criteria will be to show only days with greater than 21 days
This is what I m trying to do
Expr3: DateDiff("d",[Date],[date()])
but gives me error on date() as it can't find this parameter
I tried this also: >=DateAdd("d",-21,Date())
But its not population difference between the Date and Today Date ...

Find the difference between two dates is simple if you're simply looking for the number of days between them. However, if you're looking to express the difference in a bit more user-friendly way, you can use the following code to calculate the difference in years, months, and days. The code accounts for zero values, plurals and the Oxford comma. Further, it automatically sets the later of the two dates to the End date, so the dates can be used interchangeably.
Examples:
June 4, 2010, July 3, 2012 returns "2 Years and 29 Days"
June 4, 2010, July 5, 2011 returns "1 Year, 1 Month and 1 Day"
June 4, 2010, June 5, 2010 returns "1 Day"
Code:
Function DiffOfTwoDates(dtmDate1 As Date, dtmDate2 As Date) As String
' Written by Will Knapp, Freelance Access Developer, 2013
Dim dtmStart As Date, dtmEnd As Date
Dim strDiff As String ' Resulting String
Dim yDiff As Integer ' Year Difference
Dim mDiff As Integer ' Month Difference
Dim dDiff As Integer ' Day Difference
Dim CommaLoc As Integer
[code]....

I am trying to create some sort of warning to show that a date in one of my forms will expire in say 30 days. I need the warning to be a pop up (or similar) rather than be sent via email (only because I don't have Outlook set up and probably will not be able to). Effectively, I have a list of names and a column in my table to show an expiry date. To avoid missing the expiry date, I would like to be advised of this at least 30 days before hand.

I am trying to calculate the working days Based on all web searches I am unable to find the specific scenario I am working in Auto industry, which means auto industry usually close twice a year for any reasons, let say in July for one or sometime two weeks and in December depends upon the Christmas date usually from December 20 till Jan 01
Now my question is when i am enter the holiday details in table do I have to enter line by line date e.g. july 01, 02, 03 (I am able to understand, how this works but still not yet tried) OR july 01 to July 07 (which make sense, but unable to find how to use date range to calculate working days)...

My training database requires me to identify each training record in the tblEmpTrainHist table as either "Compliant" or "Delinquent". I thought a simple calculation in my query:
RecordStatus: IIF([DateReceived]<=[DateDue],"Compliant","Delinquent")
would do the trick. However, I did not consider the records where the employee has not yet completed the training and the field [DateReceived] is Null. There are two considerations: those employees who have no [DateReceived], but have not yet reached the DateDue (Compliant); and those employees who have exceeded the DateDue (Delinquent).

Ok this null value thing is killing me. I have a parameter query that works great. I know if I use Is Null in the criteria field it will show me this. The problem is I made a search form which the users type the value in and it opens a form based on the parameter query, the parameter on the query is [Forms]![Search_frm]![txtClosed]. If they type a date in here it opens the form and shows the user all the closed records. The problem is they want to see all the records that have no value or Null. I've tried eveything to make this work. I'm ready to jump!! Just kidding. Is there a way to do this with out creating another query. Thanks a bunch!!!

I am trying to show a certain subform based on whether or not a field is blank or null. This database is not owned by me--it's what we use to run queries and reports on the data on a centralized server for the library. It's not even in the same city--so changing the tables is not an option for me.
So, I have a subform (subform1) that is linked to the main form based on 2 fields (BibID and Item_Enum). The trouble is that the second field (Item_Enum) is sometimes blank, so the subform will not display. So I created another subform (subform2), which is a duplicate of the first one, but this time only linked on the first field (BibID). So, if that second field (Item_Enum) is blank, I want subform2 to display and subform1 to be hidden. If the second field (Item_Enum) is not blank, I want subform1 to display, and subform2 to be hidden.
I've tried putting the VBA code on different events for the form, but I can't get it to work consistently.
There are two problems, one of which I think I have fixed--but I would prefer a better solution. The VBA code doesn't run unless the form is newly loaded. I've tried placing the VBA code on different form events, but nothing works. I want the code to activate whenever a new record is displayed. The work around is that the form IS newly loaded every time the user scans a barcode for a new book. That works now, but if I need to change the way the user looks up new records, this might not work anymore.
The second problem is that the VBA code doesn't display subform1 when Item_Enum is blank. It doesn't display subform2 either, but that's the desired result.
Private Sub Form_Load()
If Me.ITEM_ENUM = "*" Then
Me.subform2.Visible = False
Me.subform1.Visible = True
Else
Me.subform2.Visible = True
Me.subform1.Visible = False
End If
End Sub
I've tried changing the condition to Me.Item_Enum = null, and changing the false/true results accordingly, but that didn't work either. In that case, only subform2 is visible, whether it should be or not.

I think the title pretty much sums it up....
I have a query where data is first sorted by user input; first field's criteria: [fieldname], then by another field's criteria: Is Null.
I know there are records containing null values in the second field, as I have run a select query with the criteria: Like "*", to make sure they are null, and not zero-length-strings.
The query is refusing to return any results...
Any ideas?

I am not sure whether I posted in the right place but here's the deal: I have a form and a subform based on two tables and on the form I create a mathematical expression concerning a field which is based on another. The results are correct but of course the values in the table remain the same (null). Is there a way to have a formula in the table and then when I create the form based on that table to have the formula ready? BTW where are the data stored if they are not stored in that table?
