Simple Question Probably Asked And Answered Previously

Sep 12, 2005

Trying to fix a simple problem with some tables.

In my department, we recently switched servers and from Windows 98 to Windows 2000. We had a database that got converted somehow during the transition. One person didn't get their computer switched until about a month later.

In essence we had 2 databases of the same information going for a while. Now everyone has the same database. Problem is the following:

Simply put:

We have 10,000 records autonumbered in one of the databases. The other database has 9,500 with the last 100 or so being information that the 1st database does not contain. How can I update my main table to have all 10,100 records? I have tried an append query and it doesn't seem to be working right. I have also tried to 'find unmatched' but can't seem to make that work either. There has to be an easy solution to make it work in one step.

Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

How Do I Get The Average Speed Answered Based On The Sum Of Two Columns?

Oct 19, 2005

I am trying to get the Total average speed answered (ASA) based on two columns sums. (i.e. sum of calls handled and sum total speed answer). I need to get the total avg speed ans (formula is sum of total speed answer (tsa) divided by sum calls handled). I did an average query for asa but it gives me the avg for the rows(records) of the asa and not of the two columns. I need it for the two columns above. I was trying to change the formula in report design view, but I am not coming out with the correct answer. Are there any suggestions?

Please help!

I Know It's Been Asked Before, But I Can't Find It

Feb 15, 2007

Small project for the local police dept. They want an easy small program to track overtime and who gets it, got it, doesn't want it, etc.

All good, but they want to be able to generate a list (report or on screen) of all those who has received OT and their balance to date, with he/she with the least OT first and ascending from there. In a report I can easily use the sum function in the section footer but how can I sort by that? Or, harder yet, how can I add the numbers in a column in a table/query since the field which contains the "OT hours assigned" will be for each assignment?

So, I guess I need to add a given field value to the other values for a running balance (of coarse this will need to be seperated by each employee).
Thanks

Being Asked For A Parameter That I Cant Find

Jan 9, 2008

Ok, I reckon there's a gremlin in this damn db...

For a form, i have a series of check boxes. One of these had a & symbol in the name, i originally had this working, but with some extra functionality added it no longer became possible, as it recognised it as a special character. The checkbox, and relating table reference was Inform_Q&FS I changed all references of it to Inform_QFS. However, im getting a parameter window pop up asking for the original reference. I've tracked it down to a point between a button being clicked and the begining of the following forms load Sub. The point of the button method triggering the parameter window is the line where the button changes the subform to the new form.

Here is the db..

Could somebody please take a look and see whats going on... im starting to get really frustrated with databases. :(

Also, any general comments regarding the db are welcome, as i'm assuming im doing things the right way there. and excuse the messy coding

Get A Field Only If It Equals What I Asked

Sep 18, 2005

I have a table with data of people, in which table two fields contain two (not necessarily different) jobs.

I want to build a query (and later a report based on that query) which will return the name, address, phone of the person, plus only the field of the job that I asked for it.
when executing the query, the user should enter the asked job in a popup-box using the below formula.

Like "*" & [job] & "*"

Note, that there may be records containing in both job fields the same job. I want to get the field only if it contains the asked job.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Just Update It, No Questions Asked!!

Aug 19, 2004

When you run an Update Query using RunSQL, it always comes up with a box telling you the number of records you are updating and if you want to update. Is there a way to stop this box coming up and just perform the query.

Interesting Question Asked Of Me...

Jul 28, 2005

I'm not looking for your expertise in "how to" do this (not yet, anyway) but a friend asked me if Access could do certain functions. Like "automatically fill-in some of the
more routine letters/forms such as basic letters of
representation, medical bill/record requests"
(routine for his biz) and "basic calendaring
functions, such as keeping track of monthly deadlines, reminders, and other
important dates."

I figured that if so, the app would have to be running in order track deadlines and such.

So, are these things that are Access able functions?

Possibly The Easiest Question Ever Asked

Feb 1, 2008

This is probably blindingly obvious but I'm unsure about it.

We'll refer to three tables, call them Table X, Table Y and Table Z.

Basically, I have a database with 10 tables. Table X links to Table Y via the Primary Key. Another field in Table X has a relationship with the Primary Key in Table Z (a foreign key).

Now, does the field in Table X that has a relationship with the primary key in Table Z need to be the primary key as well?

Put another way, does Table X need two primary keys?

Combo To Show Only Those Not Previously Used

Apr 26, 2005

Hello,

I apologise if this is a common question, but I didn't really know how to word the search!

I have a form with a person selector combo, and an asset selector combo. I would like the person combo to show everyone, but the asset combo to ONLY show those that havn't already been assigned to someone else.

Any ideas?

Make A Field Equal To What Was Entered Previously

Sep 20, 2006

I think this should be simple, but my mind just isn't functioning today. I have a form that people have to enter information in every hour. It has a lot of repetitive information to be entered each time, for example, they are supposed to enter their initials or name so that we can track them down if there is an issue. Is there some way, to make that field on their entry form, equal to the previous entry? Thank you!

Reports :: Data Range Asked Twice For A Field When Open Report

Mar 26, 2014

I am in the process of making some changes to an inherited database. One of the things I need to do is to fix an issue with the reports. The reports have a field which asks for the data range (from xx/xx/xx to xx/xx/xx) as soon as the report is opened, but then the query that fills that report also asks for the same data range so you end up entering it twice.

What do I need to do to enter the data range only once and have it show up on the report and also be used on the query?

Tables :: Display Names At ONLY Location Previously Selected

Jul 7, 2014

I am making a database, but lets say I have 12 locations and have say between 2-100 named people at each location.

I want to be able to link 2 databases together.

I can use lookup wizard to select either a location, but I also want access to display the names at ONLY the location previously selected (IE: Paul and Bert are in Brazil, Steve and Carl are in Cuba, I want once Brazil is selected only Paul and Bert to appear as options). I'm sure it's fairly basic but a having a little trouble with it, and not knowing the technical terms is making it hard to look up.

List Feature Based Upon What A User Previously Typed?

Nov 20, 2013

I have a subform containing maintenance logs for pieces of equipment, viewed as a Datasheet.

I have a field called Comment accepting text. Since comments are similar, it would be nice to have a drop down list so the user can select what was previously typed in other records and then edit it from there, similar to how Google or search engines in its search text box generates as part of its suggestion list the previous searches after typing in the first few matching characters.

I tried looking through, but is there a property that does this?

Queries :: Pass TempVar To Query That Is Selected From Previously Opened Form

May 23, 2013

I'm trying to create a query that supplies a form with data. I want to pass a TempVar to the query that is selected a from previously opened form. The TempVar is setting correctly and I can see if this if I place a textbox (NewCID) on the form showing the TempVar. The problem I have is displaying on the records according to that TempVar. If I set the query manually, i.e. "|Test|" then records are displayed but if I use the TempVar, which also displays |Test| then no records are brought back.

think it's something do with the vertical bar and that fact the field I'm searching on is a memo field, both of which I've no control over. I also have to use the Like statement because of this. Here's the query that works...

SELECT *
FROM dbo_ASSETS
WHERE ASSET_CID Like "|Test|"

and the one that I want to use, that doesn't...

SELECT *
FROM dbo_ASSETS
WHERE ASSET_CID Like [TempVars]![tmpvarCID]

I've even tried referring to the textbox instead of the TempVar, i.e.

SELECT *
FROM dbo_ASSETS
WHERE ASSET_CID Like [Forms]![AssetsCID]![NewCID]

but that doesn't work either.

Simple Question For A Simple DB

Dec 29, 2006

Ok I am right now making a simple Vendor/Product database to create a line sheet for some sales folks. I have 3 tables: Vendors, Products, and an associate entity Vendors_Products to relate the two. I have a form currently that draws the Vendor Name (primary key) from the Vendor table and the Product Name from the associate entity. This allows me to create new vendors and select current product types from a drop down box. The problem is that the drop down box is too long and it is tiresome when 1 vendor has 10 product types.

Can anyone tell me how to resolve this? I thought it would be better to have option buttons and display all available products. Then you could just click all of the option buttons that apply to that Vendor and it would create the relationships...is this possible?

A Simple One For You All

Nov 22, 2005

Hi,
I have looked at some of the threads here and it is clear that many of you are working on a much higher level than me and with a high degree of familiarity with the programme.
I am hoping that someone here is able to give me some advice as I don't find the MS help files digestible.
The task I have is to join 2 databases and produce a table from which I can run a mailmerge.
I have managed to join the 2 databases and I used a customer ID as a common link. (my apologies if the terminology is incorrect)
I now have all the data I require in one table.
THE PROBLEMs I have multiple entries for some of my customers and would like to reduce this to single entries (which is understandable). Please tell me how to do this if you can, and keep it as simple as you can please.

In anticipation I thank you very much.

This Should Be Relatively Simple?

Feb 16, 2006

Not sure what the issue is here but i am trying to append a Job number from a main database into two connected databases.
The number is a sequential number i have created and the primary key.
It is an autonumber field(obviously). The format is J0000 and the numbers start from J0001

I am using two different append queries to append them into the external databases tables.
However (and here i think lies the problem) the fields i am inserting them into are text fields with the same format J0000.
When i view the numbers in these tables, they are displayed as J1 or J9. The 0's are missing.
Any ideas.

Thank you in advance

This Is Probably Really Simple!

Feb 21, 2006

Hey guys, I'm just wondering how I could limit a field to using from 2 - 20 letters. If I placed the letter "a", I'd get an error saying how at least 2 letters must be there, and a maximum of 20. How would I do this?

Lastly, how can I make it so when I enter data into a form, I can click a button which adds it all into the table?
When I do it normally, it's automatically transferred into the table as I type it into the form.

This is incredibly simple I know, but I am a n00b at Access. ^_^

Thanks guys.

Should Be Simple.....

May 18, 2005

OK, I have a strange problem... This doesn't seem to work..... It did... then I made some changes.... Can someone clue me in on what I am doing wrong? A query, simply summing some values in fields... no biggy...... BUT...
The field
TotalHours: ([SundayHours]+[MondayHours]+[TuesdayHours]+[WednesdayHours]+[ThursdayHours]+[FridayHours]+[SaturdayHours])

So why isn't this working?
Can I use a simple VBA statement to sum these fields?
