Skipping Locked/Open Records In A Form

Hi there,
I've created a database of our customers and the plan is to have a few of our members of staff working through it doing support calls - there's very little information to get written to the database - just a flag to show whether the customer has already been contacted or not.
The problem I'm having is that as there's a set call order, and as we're going to have multiple users working through it, there's nothing there to stop 2 or more users having the same record open at the same time and customer getting called more than once. I've looked into the built in access record locking, but that is not going to help much as it doesnt seem to prevent the same record being opened more than once - it just prevents them being updated.
Ideally I want the database to set a flag when a record is opened and unset it when the user moves to next record, and have the form I'm using to browse the records just skip flagged ones. However I have no idea how I would go about doing this as I've pretty much just started writing access.
Anyone able to help me here please?

I have a main form with several continuous subforms. Each subform consists of several listbox controls. I would like to require the user to select an item from the listbox before being allowed to move to the next record in the subform, and upon reaching the last record in that continuous subform, to require an entry there in order to move to the first record in the next cont. subform.
As an added bonus, it would be nice, though not necessary, to automatically jump the focus from one record to the next after data is entered. But my basic goal is to avoid skipping records.
Caveat: I cannot use the "required" option in the field to which the control is bound because that field has a default value previously entered using an append query. (The default value basically means "not yet entered" and is not one of the options in the listbox. I am using this because this field is a foreign key in the table, thus it must have a value in order to have a record with which to populate the subform.)

I greatly appreciate your help on 2 issues:
1/ At work, I have Access 2000 application residing on a Novel server for multiusers purpose. Everyday, occasionally, the application is locked out by whoever opens first (I think?). Some of other users could not open it since it has the message like "locked out by a particular (computer name)...". Therefore the user of that computer name needs to close the application so others can open it. This issue is not happen in Access 97 as we used that version before and it is not consistent happening, so I could not find the pattern or know why?? Please let me know if you have seen this problem and how to prevent it...
2/ Do we have a way to trigger or initiate GroupWise email inside an Access 2000 application. For example, if a purchase order is created in Access 2000 application, I want to email a co-worker...OR it can be automatically sent an email to my supervisor for notifying the purchase order so he can approve it?

I'm pretty new at this so please don't yell at my simple questions. After all they will help everyone.
The first three fields in my form are Recnum which is an autonumber field, Date, which had a default of =Date() and third Name which is contolled by a combo box. Upon opening Id like the cursor to skip down to the third field, the combo box so that entering may begin here. Is there code that must be entered in the OnOpen command to accomplish this. If so, does anyone know what that code is. Thanks, Jeff

I have a chart in a form which gets its data from a cross-tab query. The chart was working fine and still is besides the fact the it is skipping the first row of data, or reading/treating it as a header. I had this problem before and the only way i could get around it was to re-create the charts. As there are many charts i want to avoid doing this again and find out why this is happening to prevent it happening again.

I have a code which cut the data from tables and insert to others. The problem is I don't know when I can do this process (when I will cut data and the same time some users lock editing records then I will get an an error). So my question is, there is some procedure which can check that some records in table are locked or not?

I have a user that is unable to edit records, He can click in the fields but he could not delete or enter data in the fields. He has the ability to edit records but its fields are locked. I created a split database and created a secure front which I distributed it to multiple uses. The other users front end is working fine, expect for the one.

I'm working on a database for residents at a care home. I've just started and I want to automate a process where I can click a button and see the contact details of a GP. It's all working but I want it to be that if the resident has no GP it will open a form so you can choose a GP. I have a message box to tell the that the resident has no GP and it takes them to the relevant form but I need it to be based on the correct residents ID and it is not. I have the code running on form load. I have attached a zipped version of the database (it is safe I promise)

I'm developing a database where people basically can fill in an order form and then the database can track if the order has been placed, when it came in etc.I have a form called frm_Suppliers to be Ordered that runs off a query. The tables that relate to the query are called tbl_Products, with a primary key called ID and tbl_Suppliers, with a primary key called Supplier ID.
The form called frm_Suppliers to be Ordered, shows a list of suppliers that have open orders. Each supplier may have several orders open. I want to be able to click a button after each supplier name and bring up a continuous form that relates to all the records from that supplier that have open orders.
I have tried using the code found in the thread called "open a form based on the record that is selected in current form" from 06-08-2011, however it will only work when my form lists each open order separately, not when they are grouped by supplier.

I have a main form [Job Quote Form 10-2205] and I am trying to add a command button to open up [Job Process Form-MKD] and have the [Job Process Form-MKD] open up and only show the records that match a certain field, in this case what I call "JobTrackNo" in the [Job Process Form-MKD]. (see attached .jpg)
This problem started to happen only recently, namely you will see that the left column under [Job Quote Form 10-2205] is blank, where normally there had been a number of fields to choose from. The fields are all still available, they are just not opening when I try to match two fields.

Sorry, i'm an access noob.
I have an ADP with a form in it, the form was working correctly until an ex coworker did something to it.
Now the form is locked, when you goto form view you can only view information. You cant edit or add new records, all the fields are locked.
How do I undo this?

Hi all,
I'm having a problem here and after searching the web, I can't find a solution.
Problem is that I have a form which seems to be locked. None of the fields can be modified. This should be ok except for 1 combo-box.
I have checked all objects settings and all objects have:
Edit/Delete/Add options enabled;
Visible option enabled;
Locked option disabled;
The form has only Fromview enabled and recordlock is off.
There is no VB code modifying a 'locked' status.
Can someone help me out here?
My project is +20Mb so first I'd like to see if there are any things I've forgotten to check before I'll strip and post it.

On my first form I have a pull down box and when I select an item and click the add button, the item appears in a locked text box above the pull down box. After I click the submit form button, it goes to another form. On the other form is a similar pull down box and locked text box. So far I got the item selected on the first form to appear in the second form's locked text box.
Again, the second form also has a pull down menu and when I select another item from the pull down box and click the add button on the second form it deletes the first item selected in the first form from the second form's locked text box. The items selected are put in a table. I was wondering if there was some kind of code I can input so the second form's locked text box keeps the first value from the first form and can add additional values when selected through the second form's pull down box. Sorry if this sounds confusing. I really appreciate your help. Thank You.

I have a report that I am pulling information by mail date. What I want to do is skip the records that are not being lasered. To see if a job is being lasered I want to check the date field Las1Due to see if it is empty, if it is then I wqant to skip that record and not print it.
I know that this sounds simple, but I can't figure it out. Can someone help me out here?

I have a main form that has 3 fields. They are all locked fields, only to show the user the "person" record that they are looking at. They update to subforms on a tab. The first subform is activities (like from a mailing - received return no forwarding address, received updated address, called us, etc)
The other subform is for addresses, original and updated.
There is a date field for the date of any updated addresses.
What I need to do is allow users to enter activities and move around from main record to main record. The important thing is that if they enter an activity on the subform that is for receiving an address change, I need to make sure that they do not leave the main record, without entering in an updated address for that same date, on the address subform.
The activity subform has a date field too, so the validation part seems like it wouldnt be too hard...
IIF ?subform-activities-field-activitytype = "updated address" (3/code to lookup table) AND ?subform-address-field-date = grrr this is where I get confused.
Then msg "Stop, you must add the updated address for the activity of receiving an address change"

Help! What seems like a simple problem is driving me crazy.
I have a form (one of 2 that are nearly identical) that appears to be opened “filtered”.
When the form opens, none of the controls react to clicks, it does not allow edits. It has a feel as if a master lock is on the form. Finally, a right click to a shortcut menu saw some progress. If I select “Filter By Form” (the current record fields become blank) and then select “Apply Filter/Sort”, the form becomes “normal”, i.e. all fields and controls behave normally.
I have gone over the code of this form and its near-twin and cannot see any differences relating to this problem.
Assuming there is some type of stealth filter at play, Access Help yielded:
Use this procedure to delete any type of filter, regardless of what method you used to create it.
1. Click in the form, subform, datasheet, or subdatasheet whose filter you want to delete.
2. Switch to the Advanced Filter/Sort window (Advanced Filter/Sort window: A window in which you can create a filter from scratch. You enter criteria expressions in the filter design grid to restrict the records in the open form or datasheet to a subset of records that meet the criteria.).
3. On the Edit menu, click Clear Grid.
4. Click Apply Filter on the toolbar. I can not find the “Advanced Filter/Sort” window they talk about. I am assuming that this is a filter issue.
Does anyone have any insight on why this form opens “locked” and what the related filter issue may be?
I have also tried the VBA code:
Me.Filter = ""
Me.FilterOn = False
To no avail.
Any help is certainly appreciated.

I have a form that I allow my users to view but not to change any of the records.
As the number of records has grown it's become necessary to add a search function.
My problem is that because the form is locked it cannot be searched.

My main form was working fine (I could key in data) until I added two subforms. Now the main form will not accept data, but the two sub forms do accept data. I have searched properties of all forms and queries, and I cannot find any suspects.

I have a combo box that when selected autofills a due date box. I forgot
that I needed to skip weekends and only count business day. For example if
you choose standard it adds 2 days to the date but I need it to skip
weekends. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've searched the forum but haven't come across this kind of problem.
I'm creating a sale and inventory system for my mates shop. My sales form is a main for frmSalesOrders this has Order no. Date and Totals, and then I have one subform frmSalesOrdersSubform with the sales data on.
My problem is that the people using the system are used to an old system where they would skip straight to the sales data but if they do this on my form then it comes up with the error message "Index or Primary key cannot contain null value"
The three fields in my main report are automated:
SalesNumber - Autonumber
SalesDate - Will be linked by an update event
TotalValue - Sum of subform
Is there a way I can auto generate the record on the main form on entry so they can skip straight to the subform. I had two thoughts
1) some kind of code on the OnOpen event, but I couldn't come up with something that would work
2) Maybe hide the subform and have it made visible by a button on the main form and also have the update code for the date on here?
However, I'm not sure how to make either work, any ideas greatly apreciated

I have a form that has a number of checkboxes that would indicate that the data in the preceeding text field is "missing" or unavailable.
Obviously, my hope is that the use of these is limited. Is there any way to "skip" them but keep them active. In other words, forcing the user to manually point to the check box and click it - rather than tabbing over to it. The tab button should just skip to the next text field.

I am trying to update a database table via a command button on the main form, that uses tabbed sub forms.
The database gets its data from paradox data tables copied our company's
third-party software. These table files are copied from one location to another to stop the paradox database from locking up and giving me errors during the import process of this database. I then link to these files at a pre-determined location on a local computer hard drive.
When I try to run the code below I get the error about the table being
locked by a user or process. As you can see I have tried adding a pause
incase the files are still being copied but this does not seem to be the
problem.
I have used a msg box to confirm that the copying process has completed before starting the make query, but the same error comes up after I click ok.
Can anyone suggest anything else.
As you can see from the simplicity of the code below I am a beginner so take it easy on me, by not taking knowledge for granted. :)

I have a Main Form which is essentially the based on my child table called tblTaskHistory. The Main Form has a subForm which is based on the parent table called tblTasks. I am using SQL queries to feed the combo box recordsource that is located on the Main Form. The After Update for the combo box populates the subForm which allows the users to look at details of a task before he/she "accepts" it. The problem is that when he/she clicks on the subForm to view the details of the task the Main Form locks up. The user, after interacting with the subForm, cannot make an edit on Main Form now. The user has to close the Main Form and then reopen it to perform the "accept" action. The form works absolutely as intended - that is if the user doesn't click on the subForm - however once he/she clicks on the subForm the Main Form locks up.
