Specify Data Type In "make Table" Query
Mar 16, 2006Is there a way to specify, field by field, the data types in a make-table query?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI found the attached example a while back (can't find the site again though ) and it calculates a moving average. I've hacked out the parts I need for my own work and I can create my moving average query without an issue.
However, I need to extract the MA data into a table so planned on using append. I kept getting type errors so I tried make table to see what type it was creating and it appears to be Short Text rather than a number.
I've added an extra button and Make Table query to the example.
As far as I can tell from the code, the moving average value when calculated is a Single. However, when I write it to the table, its a Short Text.
How do I make the created Table use Number Type for my calculated moving average?
Using Access 2013
Hi,
I am extracting data from linked db2 table using access make table query. First I create a select query and can view the linked db2 data, but when I change to a make table query I get an error message, "invalid argument", when I run the make table query. There is no selection critera specified. Has anyone had this happen? and Do you know a solution?
Thanks for your support

I use a Make-Table Action query to import data from a linked table into my database. The linked table is on a network server that is automatically updated.
One column of the linked table is named "QTY/PARTIAL" and approximately 10% of the 500 records have a "P" after a number i.e. 1000 P. I would like to separate the number and the P into separate columns in the new table to faciliate being able to compute the total number "QTY".
Thanks,
Gunner...
I am using Access 2003.I have created a Makle Table Query which gives me the invalid argument error because it makes the database balloon to over 2gb. I have two questions:
1. Is it possible to get the make table query to save data in one database until it reaches say 1.9 gb and then begin saving the rest of the data in another database?
2. Is there a wey to pause or stop a make table query to see the results and then let it run again?
I have data recorded using an input mask,
"RF">L-0000;;*
to display data in the style: RFA-0001, RFA-0002 etc.
I have a make table query to join this field to another, to create a combo box look up.
Unfortunately, after I run the query, the only data from the input mask that gets imported is A0001, A0002 etc.
What have I done wrong? I guess the error must be in my specification for the input mask...
Any and all help gratefully received.
This the first time I post in this forum and I tried looking for an answer to my question before posting, so I apologize if my question has been answered previously.
Is it possible to determine, in Access 2000, the data type in a Make-Table query of a new column with null value so that it does not default to binary.
Here is my sample sql:
SELECT tblAddressBook.Name, Null AS Email INTO tblTestTable
FROM tblAddressBook;
The output is tblTestTable with two columns: Name and Email. The data type of column Email defaults to Binary. How do I make it default to Text.
Thank you.
I have a table with a field with names set to text data type and i want to change it to number data type but when i do it in design view the data get lost. I want to know if there is a way to convert the data in the field as number type and keep the data in the field.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI previously created 2 tables:
One lists all the stock symbols and company names = SYMBOL
The second table lists the purchase information for each stock = PURCHASE
I then created many queries, etc. using this data. Symbol is the key link between the various tables, queries, etc.
NOW that I understand the lookup wizard in the data type, I would like to change the symbol field in the purchase table to a Lookup field. I, of course, receive a message. I am told to delete the relationship with the other tables. If I remove the relationships and change the data type, can I then replace the relationship with out damaging all the queries and forms?
Hi,
Trying to get back into Access after some time now and could do with some help please...
I have 2 tables, one table stores titles (mr, mrs, etc). I tried using the 'lookup' data type to link the data from the other table.
This however stores the field as a number and causes problems as only a number is shown rather that the text (in the tables).
How can I set it so Mr, Mrs, Miss can be displayed in a drop down list, rather than the Primary Number (ie Auto number).
Make any sense?
TIA
Is it possible to set the yes/no data type fields in an Access table to behave like radio buttons? In other words, if they click yes in one data field, it automatically prevents them from clicking yes in the next data field. If so, how?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI would like to work with a field "record number" like: "ABC01-01-2013A1".Standard data types do not allow for this possibility.I would also like the date updated itself automatically and the number incremented A1, A2 until A9 then B1
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy database consists of one large table of approx 3.9m rows and about 12 different columns. One of my columns is of a data type "date/time" but i need the format of this column to be "text"
The problem is that when I right click the table/go to design view/ and try to change the data type, I get the error "Microsoft Access can't change the data type. There isn't enough disk space or memory."
Which means i can't take the easy way out. Is there a way I can just create a new identical table and change the data type of my one column? I was thinking there might be something in SQL I could do, or some how in creating an identical table where only the field type has changed. I should note, I looked up this using the access in file, and it appears the ALTER TABLE SQL will not work on my machine.
the dataset was created from a txt file which as been lost to the ether, and I can't import the database into excel using a macro I didn't write unless the format of my column is text.
I am trying to change a field that currently has a data type of number and I want to change it to a date/time data type. When I try to do this, I get a message that says there isn't enough disk space or memory. I am working with a database that has about 100,000 records in it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am creating a table that is a master list of all of my company's product. Each "customer" that we have will always be ordering the same items, but not all of the items that we have available. I need a way to go through the master list and click a yes or no and have that item added to the "customer's list of items on a new table.
I need to create a sublist for each "customer" like individual shopping cats for each customer. These individual lists need to link back to the master list in case of product changes, description changes, and cost changes.
I would like to create a form where the end user can type in a product number, description, or manufacturer number and have that item added to the "customer's" list.
i wanna to insert a new field in the table ... which fill automatically with the date in which i modified the data in this record ...and then i'll insert this field in a report
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if there is a way to export the Table Design Structure:
1) Field Name
2) Data Type
3) Description
Into a Spreadsheet.
I was able to do this a long time ago, but can't seem to remember. I'm using Access 2000.
Thanks!

I am trying to change the data type of a field in a table from calculated to something else. It gives me the error "this data type cannot be changed once the field has been saved"
Is there any work around to this?
I created a table in MS Access using a Lookup & Relationship data-type. This means that my record cells call upon a particular table for values. It creates a LIST of values for that cell. When I query a particular value in this table I get every possible combination of the value. My query and code are below:
OR,
SELECT MainT.Content.Value, MainT.Source, MainT.[Entities Impacted].Value, MainT.Update,
MainT.[Divisions Impacted].Value, MainT.Announced, MainT.Effective, MainT.Stakeholders.Value,
MainT.[Ref#ID], MainT.[Issuing Agencies].Value
FROM MainT
WHERE (((MainT.Content.Value) Like "*" & [Forms]![SearchF]![ContentCB] & "*" Or (MainT.Content.Value) Is Null)
[Code] .....
This means that if I query STATES: "California", I'll get back every possible combination that exists with the name California in that particular field. The issue with this is that I'll get MULTIPLE primary key values rather than just 1. So, if one record, under STATES has California in it, but the other fields in that record have the Lookup & Relationship data-type, then every possible combination of that record will query instead of the multiple field-values form that you'll see in the table I am querying.
notice that my primary key (REF#ID) is repeated numerous times! This obviously causes problems with generating records and forms concerning information for 1 particular primary key. Is there a way around this problem other than specifying search criteria down as much as possible?! Perhaps there is some SQL code.
I want to say update set field1 = field2
But field1's data type is Number and Field2 is Text. (Field1 is fed by a lookup table). Am I doomed to go through the 700 or so by hand, gurus, please?
I'm sure this must be an easy one, I haven't used access for years and I've forgot how to do everything.
I'm designing a query based on a linked table which belongs to someone else. Unfortunately they appear to have stored a cost value (eg. 12030.30) as text.
I need to group the table records together and sum the cost value but I can't because its a text data type. Can anyone help me convert the data type within the query so that I can sum the costs, I've tried to build the expression using the cdbl() function but got stuck when it asked me for a parameter.....
Would appreciate the help :)
Thanks
Lloyd
p.s using Access 97....
I'm using MS access and Excel 2000. I have an Excel spreadsheet that contained 8 columns, the first column has all cell format as Number, the rest of the column is set as custom date format of 'dd/mm/yyyy'. When I create a linked table in MS Access, the data types does not matched my excel spreadsheet columns, the 'Number' data type is a double and I want a Long Integer in Access, and the custom date format become text datatype but I wanted a DateTime datatype. Is there any work around this? Seems like it is a common problem.
Your prompt response is greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
Martina
Query1:
Src: Table1 joined Table2
ID (Type Text)
Title (Type Text)
Remarks(Type Text)
Formatted: FormatTitle([title],[Remarks])
Expr1: InStrRev([Formatted], "~")
public functionFormatTitle(ByVal sTitle as String, ByVal sRemarks as String) as String
'do process code here very complicated an long, but works find in the end
'creates a Multi-String delimited by | (pipe)
end function
The above works, and Expr1 does give an accurate value for the position of a "~" (tilde) in the string Created by the FormatTitle() function.
However, If I put a Criteria >0 on Expr1 it asks for the value of the [Formatted] field as if it was a parameter. If I put a criteria for Formatted: Like "*~*" I get a Data Type Mismatch in Query Criteria
Query2:
Src: Query1
Title (Type Text)
Remarks (Type Text)
Formatted(Type Text)
Exr1 (Type Number) criteria >0
This Query Also produces the Data Type Mismatch in Query Criteria
pardon me, but WTF? If it isn't a STring, than InStrRev() should produce an error, not an accurate response, and if InStrRev() produces a number why can't i compare it to 0 (zero)? This is indubitably messed up that I'm getting this error. There is no data type mismatch, on either of these tests, one is a string and I criteria-limit it by a string operation, the other is a number and I criteria limit it by a number, WHAT IS GOING ON!!!
Thanks

I have vba code that creates the following SQL:
SELECT SubscheduleID, EventID, WeekOrder, DayID, StartTime, EndTime, Priority, CanJoin, PatientTitle, PatientNickname, IncludesPatient, IncludesAftercare, Letter1
FROM [qryScheduleCombinedDetails]
WHERE (SubscheduleID = 1 AND IncludesPatient = -1 AND DuringAftercare <> "AC only" AND (WeekOrder = "All" OR WeekOrder = 3 OR (WeekOrder = 1 AND Letter1 = "XYZ")) AND DayID = 2 AND StartTime <= #8:00:00 AM# AND EndTime >= #8:30:00 AM#);
When I try to run it, I get a "data type mismatch" error. When I put the same code into a query, I get the same error. However, it will run if I delete either condition from within the (WeekOrder = 1 AND Letter1 = "XYZ") pairing. I can't figure why it can run with either of those, but not both together.
WeekOrder is defined as String. Letter1 is calculated as Cstr(Nz(IIf(Letter,"XYZ","ABC"))) within [qryScheduleCombinedDetails], because I wanted to make sure that it would be recognized as a string.
Is it possible to limit the type of data that can be entered in a query that has a LIKE criteria?
( Like [Enter Data] & "*")
limit to two digits or any number of digits, or limit to numbers only or letters only. .
