Been handed a contacts database, one field of the DB includes all the industry sectors associated with the customer, with multiple industry references separated only by a comma within the field (e.g. Insurance-Life,Insurance-Broking,Insurance-Motor,Insurance-Pensions,Insurance-Home,Insurance-Health) – I want to split this one field into multiple fields using the comma as the break point (this is something that’s relative easy to do in Excel with the ‘Text to Columns’ tool – but unfortunately it can’t take the 130,000 odd records of the databasel)
Can any one recommend an expression or method that will see the 6 industry references split into 6 separate fields ?
I can't figure out how to skip the first space from the right, and reference to the second occurring space, so that I get "T4T 1L7" to populate the ADD_2 field, and everything to the left of "T4T 1L7" placed in the ADD_1 field.
I am new to MS Access, and am not sure if what I want to do is even possible. It is my understanding that comparing subsequent cells within a field in a database cannot be done- so I thought I'd see if there is a way to go around it.
I have a dataset for pedestrian activity, with over 3 million rows and 40 columns - too big for excel to handle.
I need to sort the entire dataset by 2 fields, following which I need to search down the field containing my pedestrian ids (numbered 1, 2, 3... till approx 10000), and when my ped id changes from one to the next, I need to check the value in a field showing the ped location, and if that matches with the ped's previous location, I need to copy out a cell corresponding to the previous cell's time stamp. If it doesn't match, I need to copy out another time stamp from another field.
I have a single field in a table called "Client Contact", where users enter a semicolon between the name, address, and city state & zip. My reason for this was so we could copy client info with a single copy and paste (like from an email). But, on the final report, it needs to have these three parts split up into different lines, or even different textboxes. I can't find a way to do that.
I HAVE A DATASETS cSV TEXT FORMAT WHICH HAS A SELECTION OF FIELDS THAT NEED TO BE IMPORTED INTO A TABLE. USING THE ADVANCED IMPORT FACILLITY I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO IMPORT THE DATA PLEASE HELP AS THIS IS FOR MY A-LEVEL STUDENTS.
THE FIELDS REQUIRED IN THE SESSION TABLE ARE, Booking ID, Customer ID, Date Booking Made, Pickup Point, Payment Made
I have a txt file that I'd like to import, which contains answers to a test. The number of questions on the test varies year to year, but this year there are 110 (split in to two sections).
I'd like to import the file, so each answer is a field, and then score the answers against a 'correct' answer lookup table.
What's the best way of approaching this? I first thought of using vba to read the text file, split the text, and then use an SQL command to insert to to my table. This seems tedious (there are around 6500 respondents).
I have a an address field in my current MS Access table that has records following this sort of format eg. 21 Brown St, 21/56 Smith St
I want to separate every word in this field in to it's own field eg. field1=21 field2=Brown field3=St Addresses come in different formats (see examples above, with / or - etc.)
I'd like some code to complete this in VBA - please note I'm very new to programming so unfortunately everything must be explained.
I want to split a table into multiple sets based on rowcount. Suppose I have a table having 10,000 records. I want different sets which should have values based on rowcount. Suppose if I select set 1 then the table should populate records from 1-2500. If I select set 2 then the table should automatically give the records from 2501-5000. If i select set3 then the table should have values from 5001-7500 and so on.
I have a table where I want to break longer strings into three-character strings.
So... for example the data item "Forest," I'd like to generate "FOR" "ORE" "RES" "EST" and write all four to another table, allowing for duplication. Alternately, we could make a list and just count the unique 3-character strings. The end goal here is to measure the frequency of 3-character strings across a set of data.
I have tables that are ODBC linked to a SQL database. The source tables have record date and time stamps written into one field. This means that I can't use the Access date filter functions on these fields. Is there an easy way to parse this field into two fields, one each for the date and time?
i have a linked table from which i run an append query to produce a list of customer addresses. However the address appears in one field i.e addressline1 addressline2 etc and when displayed on a report it looks poor! is there any way that i can split this data out into 3 or 4 fields so they are displayed better on a report? Thanks
Access2007- Building a query to handle future input...
I run an update query that does what it is supposed to do and gives the proper values.
THEN I add a one more field to the source with the builder using + that has no data in it yet, the query fails and gives blanks, even though one of the fields in the source has data in it.
I would think that the "no data" field would be considered 0.00 value and be added together to the field that has values giving at least the value of the field with values as a result of the query.
Is there a setting somewhere that I need to change so that the no value and the value would be combined? I am using the builder to combine the values in the query.
Hi,I have a table which contains sales information like deal name, closing date of deal,Monthly revenue information, total revenue yearly also quarterwise information. The below table gives some idea.... i want to enter data in multiple fileds ex:when I enter revenue amount it should get updated in corresponding month based on the closing date information.Suppose closing date for a particular deal is mar-08 then the total revenue entered in revenue field should get updated in march month field. Please help me how to edit data in multiple field and also logic to apply to solve my problem.I have to design a report based on this information and source should be one table so i want to edit data in main table.
Any help would be appreciated...

I imported a big table from excel with many columns. Access when I brought it in determined that they should be "text" format. I don't want to sit and change each field to a "number-double". Is there a way to quickly change data type for multiple fields at once?
I am attempting to create a report that breaks down a field of 'ClaimID' numbers into groups of x. In the sample report below x = 12 and the report will apportion the first 12 'ClaimID's to the first page and textboxes with extra large fonts will signify the start and end of 'ClaimID' numbers for that page. These sheets are used for sorting and pulling guides at our local Xmas project and x will vary depending on the size of the facility we're using. http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d186/HoodRiverDude/SortReport.gif I believe I can attain my goal if I were able to create a query which broke down the field 'ClaimID' into multiple fields based on x. The sample below represents this breakdown creating multiple records with x, 4 and 5, amount of fields. http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d186/HoodRiverDude/SortReport2.gif Does anyone know how I can create this query, or perhaps suggest another way to create this report using the existing 'ClaimID' data.
I have one table with the following fieldsName, Address1, Address2, Postcodewhen data has been imported from Excel I have found error in the data entryie the excel spreadsheet contain Name, but the address has been entered into the Address1 field now I need to split into Address1 and Address 2. Please Help:confused:. I am beginner to access have never used VBA only some queries. So sorry but I will need to know exactly how to do it. Thanks so very much for your help. Sometimes a comma seperates the address but sometimes just a space
I am trying to create the form so when the first field (Start Date) has a date selected, it limits the following field (Report Date) to the matching available data, and same with the third field (Production Division) on the previous two.
I also need the form to allow new dates / production division combinations, but not duplicate.
I starting working with a cascade function but got confused and not sure if that is where I should be headed.
I have attached 2 different formats of the same sample data.
I've got a module which loads the data into a table, but it can't handle the records that are ~ delimited, so spits them out as a single field.
I know there is some VBA code that can be used to split comma delimited records, and I've seen bits of it floating around online and tried to alter it to work for the ~, but I get the feeling that what I've seen is only a part of the required code, how to put it all together to make something that actually works.
So, what I need to do is; - Split some records in a table out into multiple fields where there is a ~ present - Place these newly split fields into a table (I don't mind if it ends up in a new table or not)
A B C D E 10 12 8 4 14 9 10 7 5 12 12 13 10 3 17 10 11 6 6 15
I have figured out how to calculate the regression statistics for A vs B on a query. So it looks like this...
Predicted B Difference between A B m b via regression Predicted and Actual 10 12 .9474 1.7895 11.263 -.737 9 10 .9474 1.7895 10.316 .316 12 13 .9474 1.7895 13.158 .158 10 11 .9474 1.7895 11.263 .263
Question: What I am looking to do is to duplicate this for A vs C, A vs D, A vs E, B vs C, B vs D, and so on until all of the pairs are calculated and put into one table/query. I know I can just create more fields to the right with the A vs C data and continue on that way, but this does not seem very efficient and I am limited in the number of fields that can be created. So it seems that "going down" rather than across makes more sense however I do not know how to move on to the next pair (A vs C and so on).
I thought of running the regression query over and over again and "recording" the data generated into a table. Once again I have the same problem. How do I tell the regression query to run the next pair? If my data is setup incorrectly, I am willing to change that as well.
In a table I have linked to a text document (have to do it that way) there is a field that holds multiple values.
Meaning there can be some fields with nothing, some with a -, soem with a 3 digit number, some with a single digit followed by a space and then a 3 digit number, and lastly a 10 character text with spaces between each.
What i want to do in the query is when it looks at that field, create 2 fields out of it.
When its the 5 character value (the one that is like '2 345') split it, place the 2 in the first new field, and the 345 in the second new field. If the value in the originals field is not in that format, jsut carry over the value to the second new field.
I am trying to figure out the best was to combine fields from multiple rows into one row & field.
Example: I have a table that contains footnotes and products. With a simple query I would get the following 3 rows:
Product........................................... .......Footnote V.I. Capital Appreciation Fund.................3 V.I. Capital Appreciation Fund.................5 V.I. Capital Appreciation Fund.................1
What I want is one row and the 3 footnotes combines into one field:
Product........................................... .......Footnote V.I. Capital Appreciation Fund.................3, 5 ,1
Please be kind, i have little VB Knowledge, and wish to expand my learning on this topic.
I have a form that updates information on one table, and has a subform displaying info from another table.
the subform is filtered, and only shows data from what is specified from the filter of the main form.
If I update information on the main form for instance, field 1, (the data on the subform has the same data so there is the relation), how do i update the subform by only updating the mainform? can this be done through some VB or something?
if you folks out there can give a Smidget of info on which VB codes i can use i can pretty much figure it out.
I have a table which has each claim as a single record. A client wishes us to provide the data in a format that lists the each procedure on its own line. I have attached a highlevel example of what the data currently looks like and what the query results should look like.So I need to create a query that would repeat the Claim Number and place all the Procedure fields into one field.
