View RepliesAny code that stops the vba from running if an 'output to' function is null. I've found some code using the DCount function but I'm struggling to adapt this to multiple excel outputs.
I'm sending 5 excel files via E mail to several addresses and I'm wanting to identify if the first file has records, currently using access 2010.
I'm trying to create a query which will only show fields that have information in them, but I can't figure out how to do it.
View 2 Replies View Relatedgood morning all,
I am using the afterupdate event on this forms field. If this date field is NOT EMPTY, then i want the next field to be visible. Here is the code i have
If Me.quotedate = ????????? Then
Me.quotehow.Visible = True
Else
Me.quotehow.Visible = False
End If
I have done this with text fields where i have a defined data to be = to, but for a date field what do i put in ?????????? to show is not null?
Thanks
Kevin
So I went searching through the forums and found a thread that provided coding for getting the # of years and months from two dates:
Function fAgeYM(StartDate As Date, EndDate As Date) As String
'Purpose: Returns the difference between StartDate and Date in full years and months
'To call:
' ? fAgeYM(#1/21/04#, #1/19/06#)
'Returns:
' 1 years 11 months
Dim intHold As Integer
intHold = Int(DateDiff("m", StartDate, EndDate)) + _
(EndDate < DateSerial(Year(EndDate), Month(EndDate), Day(StartDate)))
fAgeYM = Int(intHold / 12) & " years " & intHold Mod 12 & " months "
End Function

That's perfect for what I'm wanting but I'm doing it with Hire/Term dates. So I want to be able to see how long past and present employees have worked in the company. Obviously that makes the Term field Null at times. With the coding above it requires a date to be in the EndDate field. How can I change it to allow for a null field in which the field would essentially be the current day's date? [Now()]
I have a form that runs a search query.
I have an error trap set on a date field.
If (DataErr = 2113) Then
Select Case Screen.ActiveControl.Name
Case "DA_Start"
MsgBox "invalid date", vbExclamation
Me.DA_Start. = Null
End Select
Response = acDataErrContinue
End If
End Sub
This will pop up the error message, but will trigger the debuger when gettin to "Me.DA_Start = Null"
I'm really lost on this one...
How do I find the # of days it takes to complete a task between two date fields.
For example:
[DateRec] field is the field the app was first input to the database. [DateNumb] field is the date the first task was completed. So I understand,
=DateDiff("dd", [DateRec], [DateNumb]))
But I'm getting an #Error because often these two dates are the same date/equal, Or/ the DateNumb field may pre-date the DateRec date. Or/ one or both fields might be Null (blank). How do I set the formula on this?
Bottomline,I need to find the average # of days it takes to complete a task between two date fields for all tracking records. How do I do That???? HELP!
Error 1: Setting Date Field in Recordset to null

Solution: If the field is null set it back to itself .
Here is a simple dummy example i wrote to demonstrate the solution ( look for the bold text in side the code )
Code:
Sub Event_btnSaveEndTime ()
dim strEndDate as string
With Form_frmMainForm
strEndTime = .txtEndTime.Value

I am new to Access. I am after a vba script to run an update query.
I have a table named MYOB_Invent.
I have a Query Named MYOB_Update.
The query is showing records where my field named Test1 is null.
I want to update records with null in the field to today's date (the date of the day that it is run) formatted as 18/08/2014 and the field next to it is named Updated (which is yes/no) from un-ticked to ticked for the updated values.
I would like a vba script to automate the process as I want to automate it via a commandbutton for users.
I am building a report that has a header with several details followed by a detail section.
What I need to do is make the entire entry not visible on the report if one of the dates is null.
So it looks like this
last first title id memb # date a date b
1. smith , john fng 8521 2356224
5/12/2012 6/20/2013
10/2/2013 (is null)
2. neckbone, jim dude 2548 85858412
6/20/2013 5/5/2014
8/5/2013 2/31/2013
On the report i want the 1st entry (smith john) not to be visible due to the null (B) Date.... but i want it to be visible once the date is entered...
I'm new to programming with Access but am attempting to create a new field in a table with an new date based on existing fields in the table.
The current fields are [Frequency], integer, [Risk], text, [Last Audit Date], date/time, and the new field is [Next Audit Date]. [Frequency] is a calculated field based only on [Risk] and is equal to "5" if [Risk] is "Low" and is "3" is [Risk] is "Medium" or "High", and [Frequency] is blank if [Risk] is (thus far it has never been empty).
What I need the new calculated field to do is return "N/A" (or blank, or anything easily separated really) if [Frequency] is blank, or if [Risk] is "Low" or "Medium". If [Risk] is "High", [Next Audit Date] should be equal to [Last Audit Date] plus 3 years. When I try to save the code, I get this message: "The expression could not be saved because its result type, such as binary or NULL, is not supported by the server."
This is my code now:
IIf(IsNull([Frequency]),"",IIf([Risk]="Low","N/A",IIf([Risk]="Medium","N/A",IIf([Last Audit Date]="N/A","N/A",[Last Audit Date]+Year(3)))))
I think the title pretty much sums it up....
I have a query where data is first sorted by user input; first field's criteria: [fieldname], then by another field's criteria: Is Null.
I know there are records containing null values in the second field, as I have run a select query with the criteria: Like "*", to make sure they are null, and not zero-length-strings.
The query is refusing to return any results...
Any ideas?
I have two questions, both the same query.
I need a date prompt and null records in the same line of criteria so I get all those within a certain date range under the field "CO_resp_rcvd" and those that didn't respond yet but need to -- is that possible to do both and if so how would you show me how?
This is what I have currently in my query
CO_resp_rcvd (date field)
Criteria: Between [Start Date] And [End Date]
(I need null values as well because there will be some if the CO has not responded yet but needs to)
Formula:
This formula gives me the number of bus days from the Review Date - CO_Resp_Rcvd Date and that works but if the CO-Resp-Rcvd date is null, I need it to calculate Review Date - Today's date to show the number of days outstanding for those that have not responded yet in the same formula?
Not sure how to combine it to work - the wrapper is a bus day function
This is what I have so far in the query
CO-Bus Days to Respond: Wrapper([Review Date],[CO_resp_recd]) but if CO_resp_recd is null then ([Review Date],Date())
I have what I think is a simple query returning the names of students that have been dismissed since September 2012 using a "WithdrawnDate" field. The query pulls a lot of information from other related tables (about 6 different ones), and has two expressions.
When the criteria is set to either "Is Not Null" or a date range (which is all I need), it does not return the complete set of records based on the data that fits the criteria in the main table?
Could there be some sort of join preventing all records from being returned?
I have created a form to select criteria for a table query (which ultimately will be used in a report). If a field in the form is left blank, how can I cause the query to not filter on that field?
For example, the form contains fields for Customer, Date Range, Item Number, and Sales Rep. If the user wants the report to include all sales reps how can the query criteria for this field be omitted or nullified when the query is run?
Thanks for any help.

Database query. I need the query to count the records of a field and display a number for the records of the field. For instance, one field is [Genre] and the other is [Show]. The query needs to list the Genres along with the number of shows for each genre. I've been able to just use the query design and add the genre field and I can add the show field, use totals count which gives me the genre counts the number of shows. My problem is the null. Some genres don't have a show listed so the genre doesn't even show up in the result. If I could get the the genres that have null shows to result a 0 it would be perfect.
View 5 Replies View RelatedOn a push of a button from a form, I want to locate specific records within the table and update a field to Null if it matches a name
Dim strSQL As String
strSQL = "UPDATE tblmaster SET Score = "" WHERE [AdvocateName] = 'Anna Maria'"
DoCmd.RunSQL (strSQL)
I'm certain I don't have the syntax correct between the Set to Null and WHERE clauses..
Access 2010. I've had to learn it at work because our DBA was let go and I was the only one willing to give it a go. Read a book or two and picked up some stuff on the internet.
Here's my problem:
I have a simple table -Employee with 4 fields. FirstName, LastName, Office and JobTitle. I have form called Form1 that has 3 control fields cboJobTitle (a combo box that is populated by a query that finds all the unique values of that field in the Employee table), cboOffice (same as above) and txtName (a text box to allow user input) that are used as the criteria for a multi-field query triggered by a button at the bottom of the form. The idea being that you could do a search using this form to find all the employees in one office or all the accountants in one office, or any other combination.
The main search query has the following criteria for each field -
Like [forms]![Form1]![cboOffice] & "*"
Like [forms]![Form1]![cboJobTitle] & "*"
Like [forms]![Form1]![txtName] & "*"
It works great...until I enter a record where one of those fields may be null, such as if I leave the JobTitle blank.
If I have two employees in an office in one city and then do a search for all the employees in that office, it only returns one record and ignores the one that has the null value in the JobTitle field.
when i change records, my subform that has a memo field, shows the memo field data is "highlighted". i can make a mistake and hit any keyboard key and the memo field data will get erased.
is there a way to prevent such a problem?
if not, is there a work around. eg, hide the memo field until needed for more input? ideas on both issues?
I have a form with Date of Death (DOD) field. I would like update DOD from a table dbo_patient into Z_Patients table.
I have set the datatype as Date/Time in the form for Date of Death.
Code:
Private Sub Update_DOD()
Dim rcMain As New ADODB.Recordset, rcLocalDOD As New ADODB.Recordset
Dim DOD As String
rcMain.Open "select distinct PatientKey from Z_Patients", CurrentProject.Connection
[Code] ....
However I am getting some error Run-time error '-2147217913 Date type mismatch in criteria expression in section below.
Code:
CurrentProject.Connection.Execute "update Z_MAIN_Processed_Patients set DateOfDeath = '" & rcLocalDOD!date_of_death & "' where PatientKey = " & !PatientKey
I have a query where I display the [OPEN DATE] and [CLOSE DATE] of my cases. However, when I run this query sometimes the cases are not closed yet, therefore there are null values. However, I also have a field to calculate the datediff between these two dates. I need the [CLOSE DATE] field to display today's date when it is a null value so that I can still get a count of the days using datediff when I run the query.
View 1 Replies View RelatedHi,
I've got a close button on my form as follows:
Private Sub exitForm_Click()
DoCmd.Close
End Sub
In the beforeupdate event of the form I have have following code to validate the forms fields:
Private Sub Form_BeforeUpdate(Cancel As Integer)
'Place an asterisk (*) in the Tag Property of the text boxes you wish to validate.
'Then in the BeforeUpdate Event of the form, copy/paste the following:
Dim msg As String, Style As Integer, Title As String
Dim nl As String, ctl As Control
nl = vbNewLine & vbNewLine
For Each ctl In Me.Controls
If ctl.ControlType = acTextBox Then
If ctl.Tag = "*" And Trim(ctl & "") = "" Then
msg = "Data Required for '" & ctl.Name & "' field!" & nl & _
"You can't save this record until this data is provided!" & nl & _
"Enter the data and try again . . . "
Style = vbCritical + vbOKOnly
Title = "Required Data..."
MsgBox msg, Style, Title
ctl.SetFocus
Cancel = True
Exit For
End If
End If
Next
End Sub
This validation works fine up to a point. If I try to close the form and a required field is empty, I get a message box asking me to fill in the data. The problem is that when I click ok to the message, it shuts down the form, so I have to re-enter all the data again. My question is how do I prevent the form from closing after clicking ok on the message box?
appreciate your help:)
Access stops me from increasing the size of a key field
Table tTrades
. Key field: idTrade: auto-number
. Field: Code: Text 10 characters
Table tData
. Key field: Code: Text 10 characters
I get an error message when I try to change either of these Code fields from size 10 to 16 characters
Error message - you cannot change the data type of field size. It is part of one or more relationships. Te change the data type of this field, first delete its relationships in the relationships window.
I deleted all relationships in the relationships window. But I still get the same error message.
If I click on relationship window > "All realtionships", Access reproduces all my relationships in the relationship window. Somehow it knows them. I deleted them all again and saved. But I still get the same error message.
I have a form ftTrades which generates automatically when I click on table tTrade and create a form.
I deleted this form ftTrades. But I still get the same error message.
How I can increase the size of this field.
Hello all,
A bit of a weird one, I've got a query and the criteria for showing records is that one particular field is null. However the query is showing records with the values in the field chosen for the Is Null.
Not sure why this is happening, has anyone come across this problem before?
Thanks.
I have a date and time stamp in a Date/Time field of General Date format (3/1/2006 7:52:25 AM).
I wish to select query on the table's Date/Time field by date portion only (3/1/2006) and not include the time portion (7:52:25 AM) of the field.
Using this expression in the query's criteria - "Between [Enter Start Date: (MM/DD/YY Format)] And [End Date: (MM/DD/YY]" will not return the date ranges as desired without also typing in the full time string.
How can the date integer be parsed out and the query properly expression ed on the criteria field without using VB?
I have a query based on a table which has a date field. the field both in the table and the query have the time also in the date value so when I try to query on a date I get nothing if I copy the date and time from the field I will get the result for that record if I just use the date I get nothing. I have tried the format which does display just date but if you click on the field the time is also there You must be able to query for a date only and get all the records.
