Storing/updating A Single Variable?

Aug 24, 2005

This deals with tables/forms/VBA code.

I have a table (tblData) that stores all information for a couple hundred records.

I have a method that copy/pastes all this information to a webbrowser based on the URL TitleBar. If the titlebar changes I need a way to update what to look for so it can paste it to the browser with the new titlebar. I don't want to have to update it for every record so I created a seperate table with one record with just an ID and the string for the titlebar. I have a seperate form from the main one that allows the user to update this and store it back into the table. The problem I am having is using the information from that second table (tblTitleBar) and puting it where it needs to be in the VBA code to access the correct browser.

I don't think any type of relationship will work because that just requires me to input the titlebar straight into each record for the first table anyways. I don't see any way of storing a changing variable besides puting it in a table. I was wondering if there was a way to code a call to the second table to retrieve the single record's field, but so far I have had no success.

Any help/words/advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks for reading my problem.

Modules & VBA :: Storing Query Results In A Variable

Jan 20, 2014

I have a query which returns a list of reports I have created this session.

I want a button that when I click it runs the query and then stores the results into a variable.

I looked online and found a pretty good connection code and loop code to get the data but I'm having a hard time getting it to store into a variable.

What I want to do next is using code print the reports that were listed in the query.

That Means I need to be able to take that variable and pop the information off it, storing it into another variable (or if i can use an array just use that) and use that to concatenate into a command to print that report.

I am having problems with the syntax of this though. I think I'm just missing some key elements.

General :: Enter Single Variable As Criteria For A Query?

I have a database structure with a series of queries which are all inter-linked.

I want my database to be user friendly, what is the cleanest way to be able to enter a single variable eg as a criteria for a query - say the date, rather than having to change it in a series of queries manually, can I call it from somewhere?

Modules & VBA :: Updating 100 Records In A Table Using Single Form Entry

I Work for an NHS organization. A department here orders prescriptions and sends them out to Gp Surgeries. I have been tasked in designing a database to make this easier for them.

Prescriptions arrive on a Pallet. Each pallet has 100 Boxes of prescriptions on it. Each box Contains 2000 Individual prescriptions. I have a table which contains the following:

Box Number
Serial Start Number
Serial End Number

When the user enters the first box number and the serial start number, i need it to calculate the serial end number and insert another 99 rows into the table and also calculate the serial start and end numbers for these other 99 records.

Modules & VBA :: Sending A Single Email To A Single Record In A Query

May 15, 2014

I am trying to create a form with a button attached to each record that would allow the user to click the button and it would automatically open outlook and fill in the TO:, SUBJECT: and BODY: fields. Here is the code that I currently have:

Code:
Private Sub Command33_Click()
Dim strEmail As String
Dim strMsg As String
Dim oLook As Object
Dim oMail As Object
Set oLook = CreateObject("Outlook.Application")
Set oMail = oLook.CreateItem(0)

[code]...

There are two issues I keep running into:

1. This code opens outlook and populates all of the fields but pastes the email incorrectly. Instead of pasting just the email (email@email.com) it pastes the html tags as well (email@email.com#mailto:email@email.com#) which means that the user would have to delete everything between the #'s in order to send the email every time.

2. I currently have the email BODY pulling from a table but this obviously limits what I can do. I would like to simply encode the BODY within the VBA code. The setup I am looking for is:
one paragraph
a blank line
a hyperlink to a website
a blank line
another paragraph

Reports :: Subform Field Linker Error - Obj Variable Or With Block Variable Not Set

Apr 16, 2013

I am creating a 2 level report to confirm an order. Main report already created, runs successfully called as subform/subreport under "OrderDetails" form. Linked to master using Order.ID. There are two versions of the confirmation report that have different layouts for different program types.

The hangup comes when I try to add a "Class Dates" subreport. It lists dates of individual classes and Skip dates. I have created the subreport as "srClassDates". When I add it to the main report, it lists the records. However, when I try to link it to the Main report, an error message box appears with the "object variable or With block variable not set".

I have tried rebuilding both the main and subreports, rebuilt the query, have not found anything that changes the result.

Linker has been working successfully on other subforms. Report with groupings works fine, but I need data from 2 tables both linked to order.id.

Max Value For A Single Date/multiple Time/single Tag ID Combination

Oct 18, 2007

Hi, thanks in advance for any help you can offer. I've got a table that has

Date
Time
Tag ID
Power Level

throughout the day a computer listens to several tags (transmitters) and records the power level of the signal generated by the tag each 3 seconds. What I'd like to do is build a query that gives the Date, Time and Maximum Power level reading for each tag ID. I only want 1 record per tag per day

I've tried using "group by" and max in the query but this gives me all the times throughout the day.

anyway, thanks again for looking

cheers, Shaun

Modules & VBA :: Update Contents Of Variable But Not The Variable Itself?

Aug 20, 2014

I look at a lot of files to see when they were last updated. I wanted to write a generic procedure to manage that so ..

Code:
Public fDate As Variant
Public vField As String
Public vFile As String

'GTSdata
vField = "txt_gts_data"

[Code] ....

What I hoped Me.vField would do is update the date field [txt_gts_data] on my form with the date the file was last saved.

i.e. me. txt_gts_data = fDate

What actually happens is the variable vfield gets updated from "txt_gts_data" to 19/08/2014 then later code falls over because the fieldname is lost .

Me.[vField] corrects itself to me.vField (and does not work)
Me!vfield falls over (cannot find the field vField, not surprising J)

How do I say update the contents of the variable, not the variable itself?

Reports :: Object Variable Or With Block Variable Not Set

Apr 15, 2015

Runtime error '91'

Running Access 2010.

I have two reports running off of the same crosstab query. I copied one report to make the second report, then modified the second report to change the background of column fields satisfying certain conditions. These lines of code were added to the Detail_Format section, in color below. The report with the extra code lines does not error--the original report errors.

Code:
Option Compare Database
' Constant for maximum number of columns EmployeeSales query would
' create plus 1 for a Totals column. Here, you have 9 employees.
Const conTotalColumns = 11

[Code] .....

If I say OK (rather than debug) after the error message, I can then click the button for the report again and it runs without complaint. And, as I said, the report with the added code never errors.

Object Variable Or With Block Variable Not Set

"Object variable or With block variable not set"

It happens occasionally and the problem generally fixes itself so I dont think there is anything wrong with my coding.

And when it happens on the computers with office 2003 the ones with office 2002 can open the database fine.

What can be causing this?

Thank you in advance

Object Variable Or With Block Variable Not Set

Dec 14, 2006

Good afternoon all,

The following block of code was working great until I came into work this morning. This routine is called from the OnClick event of several combo boxes. When it does, I recieve the error listed above (Object variable or With block variable not set) on line:

If Me.cbxAss_Filter <> "All" Then

Any ideas? I'm running on no sleep in the last 24 hours so I'm sure I'm missing something simple

The code itself checks the contents of a form and builds a string of conditions which I apply to the Form's filter property to filter records.

Code:Public Sub CreateFilter() '************************************************* **** 'Name: CreateFilter 'Purpose: Generate a string to filter the form 'Inputs: None 'Outputs: None 'Instigates: Me.Filter ' 'Updated: 11/30/06 'By: Chris Lounsbury '************************************************* **** 'Vars Dim strFilter Dim lngLength As Long strFilter = Null strFilter = "" 'Each filter box has its own check for contents If Me.cbxAss_Filter <> "All" Then strFilter = "assigned = '" & Me.cbxAss_Filter & "' AND " End If If Me.cbxAction_filter <> "All" Then strFilter = strFilter & "action = '" & Me.cbxAction_filter & "' AND " End If If Me.cbxStatus_filter <> "All" Then strFilter = strFilter & "status_rsrch = '" & Me.cbxStatus_filter & "' AND " End If If Me.Combo34 <> "All" Then strFilter = strFilter & "rims_flags = '" & Me.Combo34 & "' AND " End If If Me.cbxAAMB_filter <> "All" Then strFilter = strFilter & "aamb = '" & Me.cbxAAMB_filter & "' AND " End If 'Check if filter string was built If strFilter = "" Then Me.FilterOn = False Else 'Determine length of Filter String 'minus the trailing ' AND' lngLength = Len(strFilter) - 5 'Chop off ending ' AND' and set the form filter If lngLength <= 0 Then Else Me.Filter = Left(strFilter, lngLength) Me.FilterOn = True End If End If 'debug 'MsgBox (strFilter) End Sub

Storing A Parameter?

Jul 27, 2005

Hello,
I am designing a query as i have been advised in the following Quote:
Doc ManNow, you write a couple of queries. As a parameter to the queries, choose a date that will be your archiving cutoff or split point. Usually the last day of some month or quarter. Doesn't matter as long as you are consistent about it. The technical cutoff will be, in effect, 23:59:59 of the chosen date. The first record to be KEPT will be 00:00:00 of the next day in sequence.

Query #1 - Compute stock on hand as of your cutoff date. Create a single stock-on-hand transaction with the cutoff date. Put it in a temporary table until you need it. This will be a two-layer query. I.e. a query of a query.

Query #1A - a summation query grouped by item number for all transactions earlier than the archiving date so you can get the "inventory of X at archiving date"

Query #1B - an append query that draws from the summation query and feeds it to the temp table. The stock-on-hand record will have the archiving date

.
I am able to get "inventory of X at archiving date" and append the results to a temporary table but I can't see how to append the "archiving Date" data itself to the same table as the "Archiving date" is entered via parameter prompt? Any ideas?

Storing Values?

Mar 10, 2006

Howdy

I know that you shouldn't store totals in Access, but I can't think of a way around what I want to achieve and wondered if anyone had any ideas.

An item on stock will move from one location to another, I will need to list the 'balances' of this stock at each location, easy enough to do, but there are hundreds of item movements per day and the users do not want a history of movements to be kept but do require an ongoing balance.

e.g.
100 of the item moves from A to B, this movement record gets deleted, how would I know that the item stock at A has been reduced by 100 and B raised by 100?

Storing Updates?

Mar 31, 2005

Hi all

I have a database that stores customer records and their associated insurance details. I need to be able to track any changes made to that record within a set time period ie if details are changed fine it is reported next time report is run. But if details are changed more than once in between reports then first detail change is lost.

I would like to work out a way that changes can be written to a ??seperate version of the table?? and stored in there to be reported seperately and not just the final change as is the snapshot nature of a report? Is this possible? Could I possible make another version of the main table appended onto it? I feel I 'know' what I need to do but not how to even begin it! Any help would be appreciated.

Storing Addresses

Apr 11, 2005

I am currently designing a contacts database for my business and need some advice on how to store addresses.

As I see it, I can either use a single field and carriage returns, or multiple fields which for some records may leave some blank fields.

The data will be used to perform mailmerges and will also be output to a contacts directory and I would be looking to display the address both horizontally and vertically. Is there a simple way of manipulating a multi line field so that it can be displayed on a form across the page on one line in a report?

Please Help: "object Variable Or With Block Variable Not Set"

Mar 1, 2006

I get this error message, " object variable or with block variable not set", when I'm in the design view of a form wanting to use the command button wizard. Using a brand new database/blank I imported a table from my database in question. I then tried to make a new form and put a button on it. It worked for awhile but then when I close the database and reopen it to add another button to the same form, I get the error message again. It isn't a problem that is specific to my homeschool database. It affects all the database I use/maintain as well as any new "test" databases I've made trying to figure out this problem. I looked at references before and after the error occurs and there is not difference. I've also looked at code but don't see anything code that requires variables to be defined. In the case of the test database with one table and one form there is no code to look at until I make a button before exiting and even then, I don't see anything weird.

I would appreciate any help you can offer.

I've attached the original database I was working on when the problems began.

Is it possible for a database program to adjust security levels on certain reference libraries when installed on ones computer, thus making all other database act up that are using those libraries?

Thanks,
Kris

Best Method Of Storing This Data?

Jun 7, 2005

Hi everyone,

I've recently begun building a database to keep track of stock at work. Nothing particularly special or difficult. I have a little bit of prior experience with Access and VB, but not heaps.

Basically, I've created a tables for parts, companies etc, and am relating all the data together.

At the moment I've made a form that allows you to enter a new part, with Part Number, Description, Category, Supplier, etc.

The complication comes when I want to create an ASSEMBLY of parts. I'd like to create an assembly (which has a lot of similarities to a part, in that it has a part number, description etc), and that assembly needs to store a list of parts that it includes. A simple assembly might include a few items, ie, a bowl of meatballs includes the bowl, a fork, the spaghetti, and 5 meatballs. A more complex assembly (a complete dinner for 5) might include 5 bowls of meatballs (a sub assembly), pepper and salt, 5 glasses and two bottles of coke.

I'm not sure how to best store this assembly data...

I can't really have a table with a finite number of "part" spots because the assemblies get quite large. I'd rather not use an ugly VB macro that stores the PartID's with quantities either, as that could get thoroughly out of hand pretty quickly.

I'm sure there must be a simple method for doing this, but without having a clue as to what it might be called I can't really look for it in help!

Any clues you guys could give me would be great.

Thanks

Col.

Advice On Storing Archives

Jun 24, 2005

I've created a simple database in which we enter order id (automatic), date (automatic), customer, po#, shipping date, and ship via.

then we scan the order (which may be from 2-20 pages long) into the computer so that we do not need to keep actual paper (trying to save on office space).

these files then get inserted the scanned object subform (containing the fields scan number, object, and order id).

I'm realizing that because we'll be scanning quite a few orders that this may take up quite a bit of space, i'm wondering if linking the objects rather than saving them within the database will help.

the only problem with this is that if we move the files containing the actual scanned images, that the whole system will get screwed up.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance
