Subform Open In Form View??
May 16, 2006
Is it possible to automatically open a subform in form view as opposed to datasheet view?
If so would someone very kindly advise me on which code to use and where to implement it?
Many thanks folks.
Paul.

Well, I couldn't find this using the search, so here it goes:I have a form in which I enter data to create a new client. Within that form I have a subform in datasheetview which is based on a query which holds/retrieves certain (important) fields from a table that holds case info. So in that one view the client data is displayed on the form and all cases and the most important data from those cases is displayed nicely in one screen.Now, when a client calls I navigate to that client and see all previous and all current cases that are open and/or closed for this customer. So the customer says case this and that number is the case I need to discuss with you. Now, what I would like is to be able to click or double click anywhere on the line that, for instance, says case nr 55, so that the form(s) belonging to case nr 55 pop up and all info concerning that case is displayed and can be edited as needed. My problem is: I'm still a newbie and if it was a simple thing like using the on_click event to open the form that's needed, I would not have to post this question. But that can't be done (as far as I know) since the subform is based on a query which is displayed in dataview.Am I overlooking a very simple solution to this problem or is it really going to be as difficult as I think it's going to be?For clarification of the idea I have included a screenshot of the form in question. I assume there are tons of databases out there which use such a layout or idea as this one. Please, never mind the buttons etc. It is still a work in progress. ;)

I have a Project form, which holds StockArtProduction_Subform in datasheet view. I need for them to be able to click on the ID in the StockArtProduction_Subform datasheet and it open a single view form (StockArtProduction) with the correlating ID.
Ideally, it would also work for new entries in the StockArtProduction_Subform, but the StockArtProduction form would have to "auto populate" (did I use it right?) with the ID of the currently open Project form.

Problem:
Visual Basic run-time error 7792: You can't open a subform when it is also open in Design view.
I have a subform with properties for SourceObject, LinkMasterFields, LinkChildFields changing according to objects and events in the master form.
The subform was bound to a query before which meant that the subform load event was happening as soon as the master form is loaded. I needed to restrict the subform loading until a certain point so I removed the SourceObject property for the masterform's subform. The subform on the master form is now Unbound.
(This is because I'm now running some code on the FormLoad event for the subform which needs to be restricted until the LinkMasterFields and LinkChild Fields properties have been assigned correctly otherwise it takes ages to load.)
Now I'm getting the above error. Obviously, i do not have the subform open anywhere in design view. No Visual Basic windows are open. I've closed the db, closed access, reopened it and clicked on nothing except the masterform. The error occurs when I raise the event in the master form which assigns the sourceobject property to the subform, i.e.
Me.sfmQryAllOV.SourceObject = "sfmQryAllOV"
Can anyone help me? I've googled this but finding no answers.

See title :)
I have seen that in some sample db's rightclicking the mouse showed the menu with an option to check or uncheck the dataview option, unchecked the formview was applied, but when i 'just' import the subform, i cannot find somewhere the possibility to change from dataview to formview.
Maybe someone can help me with this, probably very simple(?), question?

Hi,
I have a form that has a button, when user presses that button another form is supposed to open in minium view. The problem is that: If my main form is maximized, the other form opens as max or the other form makes main form minimized.
I wonder if it's possible for the main form to remain maximized when the smaller form opens?
Regards,
B

I bet there is a simple explanation for this.
I have a form which opens automatically when the database is opened, but I want it to open in the maximised view so it takes up the whole screen.

I have a form for data entry into my main table. Some records are correct, but some I need to come back to later and correct.
So I have a button on the form to run the Query which works fine. But it opens in a new "Data Sheet View".
Can I make it open in the original form so I can edit the queried data?

When you open a form in datasheet view, the default ribbon is of course the "Datasheet" tab. I would rather have the "Home" tab ribbon open up, because I have one field in this form set up as hyperlinks to open another form, so the filter and search buttons would be more useful to the user. I'd rather not go to the trouble to create a custom ribbon, so is there anyway to set the default ribbon tab to "Home" when you load the form? There is a ribbon property for the form, but I don't know the reference name for the tab.

I created a subform on one of my forms and in design view it looks all nice with a nice background and stuff. But in the form view it looks just like a regular datagrid. I'd like it to look like it does in design view. Any idea how?

How to populate the parent form's PK to multiple records in a child subform set to a default view continuous form?
In other words, how to auto populate the primary key to multiple records displayed the subform?

I have a modal form which has a single record which is then linked to a sub-form on the same modal form. This all works fine and shows the relevant record and sub records but I want the modal form main record to change dependant on the record selected in the subform (which is basically order item history.
I found some code on another site which seemed to work for others but for me I am getting Run-time error 2465 and it doesn't like my reference to 'Me' - is this because it is a modal form?The code I am using is:
Public Function GotoRecord(RecordID As Long)
Dim rst As DAO.Recordset
Dim strCriteria As String
Set rst = Me.RecordsetClone
strCriteria = "ID = " & RecordID
rst.FindFirst strCriteria
If rst.NoMatch = False Then
Me.Bookmark = rst.Bookmark

I'm working on the Navigation Form template in Access 2010, which is new to me. It appears that one needs to use the BrowseTo command to open up a form in the built-in subform module. I'm trying to create a couple of buttons where each button opens a form in a different data mode; one in read-only and one in add mode. Here is the syntax I used for read-only:
DoCmd.BrowseTo acBrowseToForm, "frmSales","frmNavigation.NavigationSubform", , ,acFormReadOnly
frmSales is the Sales form I want both of the buttons to open and frmNavigation is the Navigation form. It seems to be ignoring the data mode part at the end however. It only will open in Edit mode. Is there something I'm doing wrong with this command?

I'm trying to open a form with a subform from a separate form. I've never had any issue before, but all of the sudden, the subform doesn't seem to open immediately. I get the error
Code:
Method 'Form' of object '_SubForm' failed.
After that, it opens (subform and all), but some calculated text fields just say "#Name?#"
The only thing I did today was add a command button to that subform.
When I try opening the form (or subform) from the navigation pane, I get
Code:
The expression On Current you entered as the event property setting produced the following error:
A problem occurred while Contracts was communicating with the OLE server or ActiveX Control
When I step through the code, it doesn't reach the On Current event.

I have a main form (FRMProspects) with a combo box (ComboCoName) that has a query as it's record source to sort the records displayed in it. It is bound by the CustID (autonumber), but displays the CompanyName.
What I want to do is open a sub form FRMNotes, based on the Company name that is selected in the ComboCoName. So for Company XY, I want to click on the Notes command button to open up all the notes for that company only (filtered). FRMNotes is based on a different table, but TBLProspects and TBLNotes are linked by CustID (one to many).
What code do I need for this? I am treading water with VBA!

Basically I have a database that records commitments for clients. The user can go a client form, and within that form there is a subform which shows each expenditure commitment for that person (wihtin the subform there is also another subform that shows all income attached to each commitment). The user can use the Next and Previous buttons to navigate through the expenditure commitments (and the same if they want to navigate through the income commtiments within each expenditure commitment).
If you double click on any specific commitment whithin any part of the subform, then the expenditure commitment form (or the income commitment form if it is an income one) opens to allow the user to change stuff.
My database is set up so that each time a form opens the previous form closes. So when the user has the commitment form open and clicks close, the client form will re-open. My issue is that is always goes back to showing the very first commitment and the user then has to navigate back through till they find the one they have just updated.
What I would like to be able to do is when the user closes the commitment for that the client then the form opens up with the specific subform on the screen that they have just changed.The code I currently have written on the Close command of the Commitment is as follows:
Code:
Dim stDocName As String
Dim stLinkCriteria As String
stDocName = "frmTotalCommitmentsbyClient
stLinkCriteria = "[FrameworkID]='" & Me![FrameworkID] & "'"
DoCmd.OpenForm stDocName, , , stLinkCriteria
DoCmd.Close acForm, "frmCommitments"
I essentialy just need the bit that would also say show the subform (which is called subfrmComms2) where the commitmentID = the commitment ID on the Commitment form.Now just to really complicate matters, I would also like this to happen if someone has the Income Commtiment form open and they close it, only the Income Commitment subform is actualy a subform of subfrmComms2 (above), but equally the income commitment form has within it the Expenditure ID, the Income ID and the FrameworkID.

I have a form (frmSearch), based on (I think) John Big Bootys code. On it, a search box, which filters results as you type. Works great.
Instead of presenting the search results in a listbox, I wanted it in a subform (sfmSearchresults). Also works great.
Problem was this: I wanted a button on this form, to open another form based on [CustID]. For a listbox, I could use columns(0), but not for a subform. After much trying I got this to work:
Code:
Private Sub cmdVisaPren_Click()
Dim strWhere As String
strWhere = "[CustID] = " & Me.sfmSearchResults.Form.Controls.Item(5)
DoCmd.OpenForm "frmAddCust", acNormal, , strWhere, acFormEdit, acWindowNormal
End Sub
The part that I don't understand is the Item(5). The subform is based on a query (qrySearch), from tblCustomers. tblCustomers fields is as follows:
CustID, FirstName,LastName,Adress1,Newspaper1,Newspaper2.
Item(0) in strWhere would return Adress1 as [CustID].
Item (1) = Newspaper1, Item(2) = Newspaper2, Item(3) = FirstName, Item(4)=LastName, and (finally) Item(5)=CustID.
I don't get the logic. With listboxes, I could just count columns for columns().
Have attached my database. It's just a test database, with 4 people. The final database will have about 1200 people, and many more fields. Its .accdb (Access 2013). I tried converting to Access 2002-2003, but couldn't get it to work.

I have a form containing company records. In a subform I have contact records for individuals in each company.
Each of those individuals has a child table for adding contact notes (telephone, email). I want to add a button to the subform to open a new, separate form so I am able to add notes.
I used the wizard to create a link button but I get
Code:
Syntax error in query expression
So does Access assume the button is opening from a form rather than a subform or does it not matter? Is there something I need to change to the following code?
Code:
stDocName = "Form_Companies_Notes"
stLinkCriteria = "[Company_contact_ID]=" & Me![Company_contact_ID]
DoCmd.OpenForm stDocName, , , stLinkCriteria

I have the following code attached to a form:
Private Sub Go_To_Project_Click()
On Error GoTo Err_Go_To_Project_Click
Dim stDocName As String
Dim stLinkCriteria As String
stDocName = "Project Main"
stLinkCriteria = "[R&D ID#]=" & Me![lstsearch]
DoCmd.OpenForm stDocName, , , stLinkCriteria
Exit_Go_To_Project_Click:
Exit Sub
Err_Go_To_Project_Click:
MsgBox Err.Description
Resume Exit_Go_To_Project_Click
End Sub
Private Sub txtsearch_AfterUpdate()
Me.lstsearch.RowSource = "Select [R&D ID#], [SKU#], [Project Name], [Construction level], [Manufacturer], [Hobbico Status], [R&D Work By], [Product Manager], [Desktopper]" & _
"From [Project Main]" & _
"Where [Project Name] like '*" & Me.txtsearch & "*'" & _
"OR [SKU#] like '*" & Me.txtsearch & "*'" & _
"OR [R&D Work By] like '*" & Me.txtsearch & "*'" & _
"OR [Product Manager] like '*" & Me.txtsearch & "*'" & _
"OR [Desktopper] like '*" & Me.txtsearch & "*'" & _
"OR [R&D ID#] like '*" & Me.txtsearch & "*'"
Me.lstsearch.Requery
End Sub
Private Sub Exit_Search_Click()
On Error GoTo Err_Exit_Search_Click
DoCmd.Close
Exit_Exit_Search_Click:
Exit Sub
Err_Exit_Search_Click:
MsgBox Err.Description
Resume Exit_Exit_Search_Click
End Sub
Basically a text string is entered in the txtbox and a list of matching records shows up in lstsearch box. One selects the desired record in the lstsearch and clicks on the "Go to project" button and the appropriate form (aka "Project main") and subform (aka Project History) open up with the desired record and record history.
What would I need to add to lstsearch so the users can double-click on the record to open it instead of selecting it and clicking on the "Go to project" button?
Thanks

I have a [Order Central table] that compiles products from four different categories that employees can order from.
Employees using the database will select from four categories on buttons which opens up the order form EX: [Category 1 form].
They enter their order info on [Category 1 form] into a subform sourced from [Category 1 Table] called [Category 1 subform].
Is there a way that they could select the "Category 1" button, which would run a macro opening [Category 1 form] with the [Category 1 subform] having a where condition of 1=0 (or just so that the subform appears blank)?
