Subform Run From Query, Lose's Filter When Adding Data.
Mar 14, 2006
I have a form which is linked to a query. The main form which calls this form sets the filter for the query. This works fine and I can navigate all the filtered records.
The problem is when I go to add a new record the filter information goes away.
For backround this is DB for project information. The user clicks a button to view notes on the project. The notes are stored in a different table and the project_id is the common field which links the two together. I want this to function where the user can open the subform read the notes and add a new one if needed.
ITEM has a one to many relationship with ITEM CREATOR. CREATOR has a one to many relationship with ITEM CREATOR.
I have added a subform to the data entry form for ITEM. The fields in the subform are the fields in the ITEM CREATOR table, i.e. Item ID and Creator ID. The purpose of the subform is to link an Item to a Creator and populate the ITEM CREATOR table.These are the subform properties:
Record Source: Item Creator subform Link Master Fields: Item ID Link Child Fields: Item ID
The subform contains a combo box for Creator ID. These are the properties.
Control Source: Creator ID Row Source: Item Creator Subform query Bound Column: 1 Column Count: 9
When a user clicks on the combo box drop-down, the first 9 fields in the CREATOR table are displayed. The purpose of this is to give the user more information when linking ITEM to CREATOR, so that the correct Creator ID is chosen and the Item is linked to the correct Creator. Two of these fields are Creator Surname and Corporate Creator.
The issue is that CREATOR now contains over 2500 records. When trying to link an Item to a Creator the drop-down list that appears when the Creator ID combo box is clicked is very long and the user is potentially faced with a long time spent scrolling the list. I would like to filter the drop-down list by Creator Surname so that the user enters a surname and only the Creator IDs for the Creators that have that surname appear in the list.
This is very bad. We're losing data changes when we run a synchronize on an Access database.
A client wanted to use replication so he could have several people using the same database and then update everyone's changes. (It turns out that he's not used that feature.)
The client was unable to get the replica to work on his machine, so he uses the master version.
Instead, we've used replication to allow me to make changes in the database structure while he makes changes in the data. (Obviously, it would have been better to split the database in two parts, but it's too late for that now.)
Here's my process when I need to update his copy: 1. Synchronize between my master and replica. 2. Copy master to CD-R. (We're not on a network.) 3. Synchronize between client's master and replica. 4. Send a copy of master to client. 5. Open my new version of master on the client's computer and synchronize with his replica copy.
When we do that many of his recent changes disappear.
Why is that? They don't even show up as conflicts.
What are we doing wrong? Are we totally abusing the concept of replication or what??
I'm stumped. I appreciate any suggestions or thoughts.
I have a form and one of the text fields I need to verify against data in a table. I think the best way is to check the field once it loses focus on that text field. If the data is not in the table then the user is prompt with a msg "Invalid data, Please try again". I'm using Access 2010 to develop. I need query to run the validation.
I'm saving links to a combobox in a form, but each time I close out of the form and reopen it the Combobox doesn't keep the list of data I entered before and only keeps the last selected one in its drop down menu.
Is there a way to make the Combobox store/keep the data?
I have a subform in a form that displays all members of staffs Name and employee no. I am trying to find a way to search the subform on the main form it's on using textboxes to filter data, here is the code I have that searches the employee no.
Code: Private Sub Command178_Click() Dim dbs As Database Dim qdf As QueryDef Dim sqlstr As String Dim sqlstrwhat As String Set dbs = CurrentDb
[code]....
I do not get any errors and I haver used the same code structure for other subform filters but when I search for an existing employee no. the subform only displays a blank record with the employee no. 1?
I suppose a field could be added to tblProspectSkill, and the command button code could include that field in the SQL, but I keep thinking there should be a better way than copying the values. However, my attempts to link have led either to multiplying the record count by 9 or a recordset that cannot be edited.
the idea is that a position in football will be assigned nine key skills that are important to the team that is thinking about acquiring that player. For a position (quarterback, for instance) there will be a master list of nine skills, along with an importance rating (1, 3, or 5, which is essentially high, medium, or low) for each skill.
Then the prospect (the player being considered) is assigned a position such as quarterback. A command button creates nine records in a Prospect Skills table that is related to the Prospect table. The nine records that are added are the nine skills described in the previous paragraph. Each skill in this listing is assigned a grade, which has a numerical value as well as a letter grade. The numerical value is then multiplied by the skills importance rating (1, 3, 5) and the results are then averaged for a final value.The difficulty I described in the first paragraph is that when I try to link to the importance rating I end up with 81 records (9 skills * 9, apparently), but I can't sort out how to change that in a writable query.
I'm trying to hash two scripts I've found into 1 functioning filter, however I'm still relatively new to vba and can't figure out how to get this working.
I'm trying to use Allen Browne's Search Criteria:
with another snippete of code I found here:
Code: 'Purpose: This module illustrates how to create a search form, _ where the user can enter as many or few criteria as they wish, _ and results are shown one per line.
[Code]....
It's the date part I'm having trouble with, the rest of the search criteria work fine without the date, but I can't get it working when I try to modify and merge the date sections of each code.
Also I'm using a listbox for the "Yesterday";"Last 4 days";"Last 9 days" and not a combo box.
Hi all, I’m trying to filter the records a subform shows based on the employee number (in a combo box) that the user selects in the main form. At the moment im getting the following message when I select an employee number in the combo box: “Compile error, method or data member not found”:confused:
Ive searched the forums on here and tried to make use of the information other people have posted but im still having trouble getting this to work
Below is the code I have on the combo box of the main form:
Private Sub Cbo_Emp_Filter_AfterUpdate() Dim strSQl As String
strSQl = " Select * from DATA-EMPLOYEE_MASTER where DATA-EMPLOYEE_MASTER.EMPLOYEE_NUMBER=" & Form![SCREEN-ABSENCE_TRACKING_MAIN]![EMPLOYEE_NUMBER]
Me.SUBFORM_ABSENCE_TRACKING.RecordSource = strSQl Me.SUBFORM_ABSENCE_TRACKING.Requery End Sub
Ive also posted the database if any one is willing to have a look for me (ive removed irrelevant tables/forms/reports). Im using access 97
I have a pretty simple form that includes subform. Subform's table is linked to main form's table with parent/child relation. Connecting fields are main table's ID field and corresponding field in child table. Subform is in datasheet view. This is pretty basic stuff so there should not be any problems, but every time I apply a quick filter in main form it causes data in subform become invisible. There is single row in subform, but all it's fields are empty.
I would like to filter data from a table using a query (from an data input form). The objective is to output all results if input form field is empty and to output results higher or equal to the type in the field if field is not Null. The query code is as follows:
there are certain txt boxes that once filled out, will filter a subform of a table of 1000's of records to give them a number to use on the form around 200 of the records have a depot in the "depot" field on the table, when they input a depot, it filters to them 200 fine if a depot is there,
what i want is, when they input the depot, if its there, filter it, if its not, to do nothing, as they could still get a unique number if the depot isnt in the list what happens now is, if the depot isnt in the list, it displays no records
Field : Fld_Depot Table : Tbl_Agreement_Summary Show : False Criteria : Like "*" & SearchForText([Forms]![Frm_New_Accounts]![Fld_Depot]) & "*" Or : Is Null
I have a form that shows multiple rows of linked/child records.The form in question is the "frmFilterNumberTypeView" form. When a particular filter is used (installed on an automobile), I would like to be able to click on the corresponding "Installed 1" button left of the filter number, so that by code, I can reduce the Qty on Hand by One, and insert the corresponding filter ID to the History table, along with the date/time the filter was used.
how to reduce the Qty on Hand, nor how to do the updates to the History table, I'll figure that out myself over the next week or two (hopefully it won't take that long). What I'm trying to figure out here is how I can associate the red "Installed 1" button with the filter to the right of whichever button I press.
how to sort the filter column on this same form. I'm fairly certain that this would be very easy to do if the subform in question was populated by means of a corresponding query, but I'm afraid that if I go that route that I'll spend another 20+ hours trying to figure out how to get the proper filter records to match the filter manufacturer, not to mention having to next figure out how to link the table so that if I modify any particular filter record, that I'll be able to have the associated table update accordingly.
Is it possible to sort the filter column without the subform record source being a query?
I was wondering when I am filtering out data from a table, is there a way for me to filter out specific lines (as in, if I have a 100 line datasheet, can i choose to filter out lines 5, 10 and 20 out of the query)?
For instance:
Line Name Address Phone Number 1 A1 fjlafs 453453454 3 A2 fsdfsd 343534534 4 A3 gsdgsdg 354543534 5 A4 gsdgsdgsd 345345345
I want to make it so that lines 2 and 4 are NOT included in the query when I click "RUN".
I have a Button, which update various data into a table in a form. If i called a requery (me.requery) then, the the coursor move up to the first entry.
problem when I am trying to use Form to filter data from a cross tab query though I have already defined the parameters. The SQL is as under :
//Code start PARAMETERS [FORM]![START_MONTH] DateTime, [FORM]![END_MONTH] DateTime; TRANSFORM Round(Sum(CLng([A_GAS_m3]+[NA_GAS_m3])/1000000),3) AS GAS_MMSCM SELECT maindata.on_off, maindata.state, maindata.OPERATOR, maindata.field_block FROM maindata RIGHT JOIN PRODUCTION ON maindata.field_block = PRODUCTION.FIELD_BLOCK WHERE (((maindata.field_block)<>"Panna" And (maindata.field_block)<>"Mukta" And (maindata.field_block)<>"CB-ONN-2000/2(NSA)" And (maindata.field_block)<>"CB-ONN-2000/2(BHEEMA)") AND ((PRODUCTION.MONTH) Between Format([FORM]![START_MONTH],"dd-mm-yyyy") And Format([FORM]![END_MONTH],"dd-mm-yyyy"))) GROUP BY maindata.on_off, maindata.state, maindata.OPERATOR, maindata.field_block ORDER BY maindata.on_off, maindata.state, maindata.OPERATOR, maindata.field_block PIVOT PRODUCTION.ACTIVITY; //Code End
When I save it prompts for the Start and End Month and When I run the query it pops up the form twice...
i have a form (frm1) and subform (sfrm1) that when a room number is double-clicked in the subform another form (frm2) and subform (sfrm2) loads. frm1 has building info and frm2 is used for inspection info. if a room has never been inspected then when frm2 loads the field [room] will be empty. however, after the first inspection the room number is obviously entered for frm2.
so i have created a global variable that holds the value of [lab_room] from frm1 and is supposed to use this value on frm2 if the room has never been inspected - ie, [room] is null. however, the value of intRoom (global variable) is lost after is leaves frm1 and goes to frm2. below is my code:
modGlobal (module with global variables declared) Option Compare Database
Global intVar As Variant Global intRoom As String
Private Declare Function CoCreateGuid Lib "OLE32.DLL" (pGuid) As Long
Private Type GUID 'Memory structure used by CoCreateGuid Data1 As Long Data2 As Integer Data3 As Integer Data4(7) As Byte End Type
Private Const S_OK = 0 'Return value from CoCreateGuid
frm1 subform double click event Private Sub Form_DblClick(Cancel As Integer) On Error GoTo Err_DblClick
Dim stDocName As String Dim stLinkCriteria As String Dim stMsg As String
'if the user double clicks on an area that has no lab_id associated with it 'prevents a null value for lab_id If IsNull(Me!lab_id) Then stMsg = "There is no lab associated with this room." intRes = MsgBox(stMsg, vbOKOnly + vbExclamation, "Error - No Lab Selected") GoTo Exit_DblClick End If
Running Access 2010 and developed this query to filter out data from a table between times on 2 dates (day before report run and day of report). Covers data from a shift that carries over to the next day.Trouble is, the PC i developed on still operates the query as expected. However, on the PC the database resides (not networked just stored) and operates, the query brings up no data at all unless I remove the Time filtering.
This PC used to operate correctly up until early this year (about 18 months operated correctly) when the PC was replaced due to failure. Access version is the same and I am at wits end to what the cause is. Here is what my query looks like:
Quote:
SELECT Breakdowns.BreakdownDate, Breakdowns.Time, Breakdowns.Shift, Breakdowns.Downtime, Breakdowns.Equipment, Breakdowns.Conveyor, Breakdowns.Fault, Breakdowns.Stopper, Breakdowns.Gate, Breakdowns.Dolly, Breakdowns.Carrier, Breakdowns.FaultType, Breakdowns.Comments, Breakdowns.Tradesman FROM Breakdowns WHERE (((Breakdowns.BreakdownDate)=Date()) AND ((Breakdowns.Time) Between #00:00:00# And #6:29:00#) AND ((Breakdowns.Shift)="Night")) OR (((Breakdowns.BreakdownDate)=Date()-1) AND ((Breakdowns.Time) Between #22:30:00# And #23:59:00#) AND ((Breakdowns.Shift)="Night"));
I tried Link model "bank_pay" with the main_form << to add details of information >> by "pay_num" in main_form and "num" in "bank_pay" by filter >>
Code: Private Sub pay_type_AfterUpdate() Select Case pay_type Case Is = "1" DoCmd.OpenForm "bank_pay", acNormal, "", """[forms]![main_many_1]![main_many_sub]![pay_num]="" & [num]", , acNormal
