Suppressing Record Entry And Input Via Dialog Box

Apr 1, 2005

I have a problem that is probably very straightforward to you Access experts.

A brief description of the salient parts of my setup are given as numbered paras below.

1... I have 2 tables: Jobs and Sessions in a defined 1 to many relationship.

2... I have defined a form in parent-child format with the child (session) records displayed in single line (continuous) mode.

3... The above works as intended, ie as different jobs are selected (via combobox or bespoke navigation arrows), so the relevant session lines appear. I have removed both record selectors and default navigation buttons from both form and subform.

4... Because all but one (a simple text description) fields are auto or calculated, I do not want the user (Yes ... it's me ... but It could be someone else ... if I drop dead) to attempt to input via the form, since it causes problems for some of the calculated fields. :(

QUESTION A. How can I suppress the record entry part (bottom line) of my session one-liners subform? (The problem doesn't arise with the main job page-mode form, since the removal of the default navigation makes it impossible to add a job via the form).

QUESTION B. What code do I need to create a new session for a defined job via a simple dialog box or bespoke form which requires only two input parameters: jobname and sessiondescription. (All other fields are calculated automatically from today's date and jobname)

5... I currently perform input using the jobs table (ie selecting the relevant job), expanding the (sub)sessions table and then adding a session description ... but this is not so user-friendly!

I would appreciate any help and/or relevant comments.

Suppressing Dialog On Multiple Append And Delete Queries In A Macro

Aug 19, 2004

I have a macro setup that deletes all the records in 2 different tables, then using about 8 queries, appends several records to the two tables where data was deleted. When these macros run, several Yes/No/Cancel dialog boxes come up for each query, first asking you if you are sure you want to do this, that it is going to change data in my table, and then second telling me how many records it's going to append or delete.

Is there a way to make it automatically run Yes to all of these dialog boxes? That would really help out a whole lot. Of instead of that, but maybe some sort of VB code that could do all the deleting and appending without the need of the Macros, and that doesn't require user intervention. I have my Macro's setup on the "On Click" event in a form, so using VB would be no problem at all.

Any Suggestions?

Detect Record Delete In Vba Without Dialog Box

Oct 23, 2006

I've looked all over this forum and others and google, and am amazed that I've found nothing that addresses this issue.

I want to execute some code after a record has been deleted. If I uncheck the "Tools / Options / Confirm Record changes" option (it's extremely disruptive) then the "Before/After Del Confirm" events don't occur. The "On Delete" event occurs before the record is deleted and therefore doesn't help me.

Are the "Before/After Del Confirm" events the only events that occur after record deletion? If so, is there any way to disable the confirmation dialog and still get the events so I can handle it with my code and not disrupt the user every single time a record is deleted?

Thanks...

Modules & VBA :: Only Suppressing - Do You Want To Append XX Records? - Warning

Dec 2, 2014

I have code that loops through a lot of objects, and adds them to a table. Right now I have suppressed the warnings via the DoCmd.Setwarnings = False command, in order to avoid the user seeing the message confirming that they want to make changes to the table.

However, I WOULD like them to see a warning if any of the table additions were unsuccessful for some reason. Is there a way to eliminate the user needing to confirm adding or modifying records, but NOT lose the warnings related to errors with adding these records? Even if it's a separate table that contains those warnings that they could look at afterward?

Print Current Record - Open Printer Dialog Box

May 19, 2014

I want to put a print button on my data entry form that prints the current record in a report that is laid out all nice and pretty. I found this code that works, but it goes straight to the printer - it does not bring up the printer dialog so you can select a printer.

Code:
Private Sub RecordPrint_Click()
Dim strWhere As String
If Me.Dirty Then
Me.Dirty = False
End If

[Code] ....

How do I get it to bring up the printer dialog?

Forms :: Updating Record On Table - Enter Parameter Value Dialog Box Appearing?

May 16, 2015

I am having a problem updating a record on a table called BookInTable . The field I want to update is called Engineer and the record is found using the field Barcode. I have a form with 2 text boxes BarTxt and EngTxt as well as a button called SaveBtn. on the OnClick event of the SaveBtn I put the following code

Code:

Private Sub SaveBtn_Click()
If IsNull(Me![BarTxt]) Or (Me![BarTxt]) = "" Then
MsgBox "Please enter a value!", vbOKOnly, "Invalid Search Criterion!"
Me![BarTxt].SetFocus
Exit Sub
End If

DoCmd.RunSQL "Update BookInTable SET Engineer = " & Me!EngTxt & " WHERE BarCode ='" & Me![BarTxt] & "'"

End Sub

But this is bringing up the enter Parameter value dialog box for whatever I type into EngTxt. If I enter text into that box and then click okay it then updates to the record. how can I stop the from enter Parameter value dialog box appearing?

Lose Record Edit Via Form; Input Continues As New Record

Sep 22, 2004

PROCESS AS DESIGNED: The user logs in and is given a form displaying existing records that are coded (by userid) for that user to update. From that list, the user selects a record and continues to a second form (the first form closes) which displays all the fields of the selected record which should/can be edited by the user (plus a few non-editable key fields). There is nothing tricky to how the records are selected for display. A simple query behind the first form selects data records using the userID number. The second form does a simple record select using the active record ID number on the first form. Nothing tricky -- no modules just queries, tables, forms and simple macros to string it all together.

The user can open/close these two forms as often as necessary and the record will continue to show up until a value is entered into a "completion date" field. When that field is no longer blank, the record will no longer be displayed for use.

PROBLEM: About 90% of the time, things work as expected. But 10-15% of the time, somewhere between opening the record in the second form and closing the second form, the edited record totally disappears (as if it were never opened, it isn't even system date stamped) and the input information is inserted instead into a brand new record.

Users can sometimes tell when the edit record is dropped during processing, because key fields displaying previously entered data go blank and the displayed recordID (autonumber) is changed. p>
ERROR PATTERN: NONE! It can happen as the edit record is first opening, in the middle of editing the form, or at the end when closing the form. It will happen on a specific PC 2 times in a row and the third time be fine. It has happened at multiple locations but not for all people and not consistently for the same person/same pc. The same record that failed can be re-selected and work just fine the next time.

I cannot reproduce the error myself. I have tested everything I can think of without causing the error. I can lose changes and avoid a system date stamp if I abort my Access sesssion, but that doesn't create/insert a new record with my new input. It just loses everything.

I have wondered if a momentary break in the network/communications could break the connection to the application to just enough that the form remains on the screen, but selected record is discarded. Input into the empty form would/does insert a new record.

I have asked the IT Operations group to investigate if a network/communication problem could be the culprit, but they haven't gotten far on this. I have never seen this happen before and am totally stumped but am desperate to resolve it before user confidence is damaged.

Forms :: Create Data Entry Form To Input Data For Field

Mar 5, 2015

I an trying to create a data entry form (IndividualsEntryFm) to input data for fields such as (First Name),(Birthdate) etc., these to be saved to the (IndividualsTbl)

I also have another table (NamesTbl) which has family names etc. The two tables are linked by a (MainID) field. I want a combo box on the individualsEntryFm so that I can select the family name. Then I wish the empty fields for the IndividualsTbl to be available to enter data. When I press the save button I then want this data saved, together with the MainID from the combo box to the IndividualsTbl.

I have set the IndividualsTbl with a (PersonID) field as an auto number each individual therefore has a unique PersonID but may well share the MainID. I'm trying to link many people to the same address.

Help - Strange Record Entry

Jul 15, 2005

I have two subforms on my main form. Both subforms are very similar and comprise two fields each. Both have an After Update event set on one field to enter the current date into the other field.

In one form I can update a record, press F9 and everything is smooth - I can proceed to somewhere else.

In the second form, if I update a record, the date is entered in the second field, but with black background, and I have to focus on the field, press Enter and then Esc (in the right order) to be able to proceed. I have tried many things to stop this as it is slowing data entry (just when I am starting to feel abit sleep deprived with an early start ahead).

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Select One Record For Each Repeated Entry

Mar 6, 2006

Hello All,
In my table, I have some records that are duplicated (aside from the primary key).
How can I select only one record from each set of duplicated entries? (There may be more than 2 of each of the duplicated records, but I only need to pull one of them...doesn't matter which one.)

i.e...Like a 'Find Duplicates' query, but only returning the top 1 primary key from each duplicated set.

Thanks,
Sarge.

Subforms & Limiting Record Entry

Apr 28, 2006

Hi guys,

What would be the best control source to use for my sub forms detailed below:

I am designing an Asset Management System. Each the main Asset Table "TblAssetMain" has child tables "TblAssetType", "TblAssetDetails", "TblAssetEventLog".

When a new asset is created, the AssetMain form will have subforms for these three child tables (linked by Asset_ID = Subform![Asset_ID]).

Can I use a query of the child tables for data entry or, if I set the control source to the actual tables, can I limit the number of records in the child tables for each record in the Asset Main table to "1".

Basically each Asset will have one record in AssetMain and 1 relating record in each of the child tables i.e. you cant have more than one AssetDetail record for one Asset.

Did do a search and found the following code but not sure whether there is a way without using code?

Code:
Private sub Form_BeforeInsert(Cancel as Integer)
If Me.txtCount > 2 Then
Cancel = True
Me.Undo
Msgbox "Please return a book before checking out a new one", vbOKOnly
End If
End Sub
