I am trying to make a small database that just help users to enter there data. I am using a switchboard here. User should click on his name (Captions)and the switchboard should close and automatically user name should appear in a text box in child form.
I hope I will get an amicable responce.
I have a listbox on a subform (or a subform within a subform).
When it is clicked I want all other listboxes to unselect.
There may be listboxes on the mainform, on other subforms, on other subforms of subforms.
I imagine I'm looking at a recursive function of some sort, but I'm not entirely sure of syntax to identify parent and children forms...
pseudocode so far: loop all controls if control = listbox, unselect all if control = subform - recurse: loop all subform controls if control = parent... err... Fail.
I have done this by linking the relationship between a person and a company (company-personID) with the table "alternates". In a subform for the information about the company itself, it shows the people associated with the company, as well as their alternates (assuming they're a director). It works just fine when I view a director's alternate, as John Tong here has his alternate as the person with relationship number 7. However, the whole thing is made useless when I view it from an alternate director's point of view, like Peter Chan, where he's displayed as the director, and the alternate is null. After poking around for a bit, it turns out that the child field is ALWAYS director.
What I want is for it to show the alternate or director based on who's being shown in the subform, i.e. Peter Chan is filled as alternate with the director being shown as "1". I've tried setting up expressions and putting up multiple master and child fields, but they just mess up Access.how I could display the names instead of the company-personID in the "alternates" subform,.
I am building a user creation form. I have built it with 3 subforms
Subform 1 is voor general information about the user. Subform 2 is some more specific information about the user Subform 3 is more info about the same user.
Now when I create a user (record) in subform 1 it gets the primary key lets say 14. Then when i add information in subform 2. I want it to grab the Primary key 14 from subform 1. So that the information which is inputted in subform 2 will be related to information from subform 1. I get it working if I make a Main form and then put subform 2 and 3 in a subform and then let them grab the primary key from the main form. But how does this work with 3 subforms and no mainform.
I have a relationship between two tables; the parent table is "Client Information" with a primary key of "Client_ID", the child table is "Event Information" and the foreign key is "Client_ID".
I know that within the Event Information table I can select which Client_ID to use as the link. I want to have that done within a form, however. I have a form for Client Information with a subform for Event Information. If I go into the table and manually set the Client_ID then everything displays fine.
How can I set the Client_ID in the subform to automatically match the Client_ID in the main form? I can only assume that these solutions require the parent/child relationship to already have been established.
I have an unbound new contact data entry form that adds records to many different tables. I have no problems adding one record to a child table at a time, but one of the things we are collecting is a list of online networks a person belongs to, and I want to be able to stick a "check all that apply box" on my form and have it add multiple records to the child table. Here's the basic set up, I have a parent table with the main contact information with a primary key field "IID", a lookup table with "Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter..." etc in it with a primary key field "online_id", and a bridge table to link the two which should have multiple entries for IID, one for each online_id. I want to use a listbox (or something like it) that the user can select multiple online networks and then have records added to the bridge table. I can figure out how to add the listbox on the form, what I can't figure out is how to get the values out of the listbox. T
How to structure some MS Access 2007 Forms for the following scenario.
My table structure is as follows:
Product ++++++ ID (pk) ProductName ...
Tag ++++ ID (pk) TagName
ProductTag +++++++++ ProductID (fk) TagID (fk)
I want to have a main form that allows me to search for and displays a list of all products (and the dozen or so attributes for each product) that meet that criteria (I'm thinking a continuous form view of products).
So far so good. No problems.
Now I want a "tagging" form to the right of my continuous forms product list that is linked to the product which currently has focus. The tag panel should always show a complete list of all Tags. I want a checkbox next to each tag that I can switch on and off whether that tag applies to the currently selected Product. I also want to be able to add tags on the fly (without leaving the main form).
I think I have three forms in play :
Main Form Product Form (subform to Main) my product search criteria is probably on this form header. Tag Form (also subform to Main)
But with this approach I'm have trouble linking the two sub forms to each other. Actually, I'm having huge trouble figuring out how to display the list of all tags with a check box that when checked on and off creates / deletes a record in the ProductTag table and I really want Access to do as much of the CRUD as possible. I would prefer to avoid writing screeds of SQL INSERTS/DELETES on events. Am I asking too much of Access?
I have a form, frmProjects, with a continuous subform, sfrPeopleOnThisProject. They have a master-child relationship. The form shows one Project record at a time, while the subform shows all the People records for that project. This works as expected - the correct records show up in the subform as you move through the form records.
To make it easier to glance through the list of subform records (as they can sometimes be quite long), I've added a navigation combobox to the header of the subform. If I understand correctly, as the combobox is within the subform, it should obey the master-child relationship: it should only show the subform records associated with the main form's current record. It does not. Instead, the combo box collects *all* of the records from the table that the subform is based on. So, choose the record for Project 1 in the main form. Up pops the 2 people on Project 1, but the combo box lists both the 2 people on Project 1 and the 3 people on Project 2.
The row source for the subform combo box is:
SELECT tblPersonOnProject.PersonOnProjectID, tblPerson.Fullname FROM tblPersonOnProject INNER JOIN tblPerson ON tblPersonOnProject.PersonFK=tblPerson.PersonID ORDER BY Fullname;
I can make the combo box perform as required by adding "WHERE Project=Forms!frmProject!ProjectID" to the row source and placing a hidden textbox on the main form for ProjectID (the autogenerated primary key) to sit. Have I misunderstood the point of the master-child relationship in the subform? This hidden textbox thing can't be correct.
I have created my switchboard.. and I put my forms on it.. my forms contain drop down boxes.. when I click on my switchboard and open up my forms my drop down boxes work, yet they are not pulling the information from the record like it is supposed to.. any ideas?
I have two subforms on a main form. Both use similar queries and nearly the same set of records and PK. The first subform is for data entry and the 2nd subform is a continuous form that lists the entries in order that are made from the 1st Subform. (for entering in vacation days and appointments)
The continuous form cannot be edited, it is to be a list for viewing the information only.
I have an edit button next to each record on the continuous form. When the button is clicked, I want it to take the 1st subform to that specific record as well (same PK), so the information can be edited there.
I cannot figure out how to get the 1st subform to go to the record on the continuous form when the button next to that record is clicked on the continuous form.
I tried the DoCmdSearch for record and just keep getting object is not open errors.
I'm trying to create a switchboard through which one can access data entry forms. Now there are about 13 of such forms but I've put only 3 here for simplicity. The idea is to have a button (on the main switchboard) represent each category but I understand the switchboard will not allow more than 8 buttons on it? I guess that by the end of the day, I will probably have two secondary switchboards for these 13 buttons. I created the main & secondary switchboards (the second is called "This is the Look I want"). A button called "TheOtherBoard", on the main switchboard, should take me to "This is the Look I want".
1) I don't like the way the Main switchboard looks and decided to create the secondary switchboard with the look I prefer but it duplicates anything I do. How can I fix this?
2) when I double click on the main switchboard, the secondary board (with colourful buttons) opens. Should be the ugly one first!
3) Also, since I manually added the buttons & stuff, I think I'll need to link them with the forms.
This is probably elementary, but I'm entirely lost. Here's my issue:As most of you probably know, when first creating a switchboard in a database will automatically create a form based on it.Somehow I managed to delete that form, and have no idea how to make a new one with the same default switchboard format (where command buttons are automatically generated, and there's a default title label with the shadow effect, etc.)I thought I might try to just delete the switchboard and create a new one so that another form would be created, but it won't let me delete the switchboard! If I understand correctly, I have to create a switchboard without any other switchboards already existing for Access to create a related form for me. Any suggestions?
I have a db that I added a switchboard to; it has 6 buttons, the first 4 work correctly. The remaining 2 buttons, Btn5 and Btn6 load forms "Gallery" and "Beginner_Pics" that display pictures. These 2 forms work perfectly when I load them directly. These Forms do not pause for a comboBox selection to be made; they act as though a selection was made ending with my error message display. No subsequent ComboBox selections work thereafter. At first I thought the Switchboard was loading old Forms, since the Switchboard was developed before the last two forms were totally debuged, but all old Forms have all been deleted. I do not know where to look for the problem Switchboard or the errant forms. Is it possible I need an "On Load" Event Procedure to force a ComboBox selection?
I am working on a database that will be an addition to an existing one on the company server. However, to make the overall layout not so complex and allow room for other additions in the future, I'd like to keep the databases separate. This will also ensure more efficiency, integrity and troubleshooting overall.
I have the original database with the name of "Cell MFG Screen" that contains a switchboard. I am now creating a db to keep track of manufacturing waste (which will also be on the same server when completed). That switchboard is called "Cell Waste Weight". Again, I want to keep these db's separated from one another as well being able to add future dbs. Now, what my plan is to make up a one db that consists of only a switchboard that will be used as the main switchboard to be able to navigate to other dbs that are located on the server.
Have created a form to display/change table info in Datasheet View and added the form to a switchboard. When selected from switchboard, it displays a single record. When executed from the Forms (objects), it displays in Datasheet view.? How can I get it to display in Datasheet View from Switchboard?
I have a table which holds information relating to a fleet of vehicles; each of these vehicles is currently physically checked on a daily basis for a number of items, one of which being to check that the vehicle has valid VED (tax disc).
With the paper disc being abolished now, we have a situation where the individual using the vehicle cannot be certain about its VED status (the chances of one not being taxed is next to nil, but we are talking a fleet of nearly 1000 vehicles here, so anything is possible)
Our current database has most of the vehicle information stored already, so in theory I think I only need to add a couple of fields, which will make the table structure (roughly):
Is it possible that when a Form (not related to the table, and most likely the main switchboard form) is opened that both the MOTExpiry and VEDExpiry dates are checked, and if either or both of them are due to expire within 7 days or have already expired that a warning appears (vbaOKOnly messagebox would do fine) stating that there are vehicles that require their MOT & VED dates to be checked and updated accordingly)?
I have created a switchboard 'front page' through which I hope for users to access the forms for inputting data.
Within this front page I have an 'enter' button - successfully created - everything.
However, I am unclear as to how you activate this, or any other button. I have linked it to the appropriate form and stated the action I want it to undertake, but nothing is happening.
What further instructions do I need to provide ...and where?!
I am using Access 2007. I have had an application running now for about 1 year and now getting an error when user opens the database. (Have one for front end and one db for backend)
Here's the error message:The form name Switchboard is misspelled or refers to a form that doesn't exist. Also, multiple users are accessing the database at the same time.
I seem to be having a problem with acess 2003 in that when ever I set the parent/child relationships and go back to the front end the simple disappear?
Parents can have one or more children. I want to return the youngest child of those parents with more than one child.I have [QryParent&children] that returns all the parents and all the children. I have used this as a sub query in [QryParents>1child]. This uses "In (SELECT [ParentsId] FROM [QryParent&children] As Tmp GROUP BY [ParentsId] HAVING Count(*)>1 )" as the criteria in the ParentId. This returns all parents with more than one child and gives the name and DOB of the child.I now want to return just the youngest child for each parent. An ideas?
HI everyone, I have a Sales Invoice form with a Receipts subform showing what receipts have been lodged against that invoice. It works fine as long as there is one receipt or more.
The problem is when no receipts have been lodged and there are no receipts to show in the subform. When I open the Sales invoice form I get a "you entered an expression with no value" error, then the Sales invoice form opens. I tried suppressing the warning with DoCmd.SetWarning False, but that hasn't worked.
We all know we're not supposed to duplicate data right? So was wondering how people deal with the deletion of Master records.
For instance let's say I have 3 tables. tblSales tblSalesSub tblProducts
tblSales - lists the sales summary - stuff like SaleId, SaleDate, SaleTotal tblSalesSub - lists the products contained within the sale. tblProducts - is the Master list of products storing the product specifics
Now to prevent duplication of data I should just store the productId in tblSalesSub then reference that to tblProducts with an innner JOIN of some kind. But what if the Master record gets deleted? The reference is broken and NULL values are returned.
How do you deal with this? Don't allow deletion of these records? But just hide them when deleted? Duplicate data by storing the product title and description within tblSalesSub? Tell the user - tough cheese you shouldn't have deleted it should you? Any other ideas?
where, in the case of a child, its ParentID contains the PersonID of its parent. In the Relataionships window I put two such tables, Family and Family_1 and I joined Family.ParentID to Family_1.PersonID. I set referential integrity, cascading updates and cascade deletes. I made a Parents form (by setting the ParentID criteria to Is Null), and added a Children subform (linking the ParentID of the subform to the PersonID of the main form).
The cascading updates works when I add a new child but when I try to delete a parent I get the error: Could not update; currently locked. Why doesn't the cascade delete work?
