Table Relationship Lookup In A Form

Oct 1, 2005

Hi all,

I am wandering if anyone can help me here. I have a form which is linked to a table called tbl_File. Within in this form & tbl_File there is a field called Country_Code. In the Country_Code field the user places a number that corresponds to their country they want.

Now Country_Code & the corresponding country is defined in a seperate table called tbl_CountryCodes.

What I would like to do is in my form once the user has inputed a number in the Country_Code field (it will be a combo box), a label or textbox in the SAME form will then do a search of the corresponding Country name in tbl_CountryCodes and then display it to the user.

Any ideas will be greatful :D

Fields In Table Created With Relationship / Lookup Data Type

Jul 17, 2014

I created a table in MS Access using a Lookup & Relationship data-type. This means that my record cells call upon a particular table for values. It creates a LIST of values for that cell. When I query a particular value in this table I get every possible combination of the value. My query and code are below:

OR,

SELECT MainT.Content.Value, MainT.Source, MainT.[Entities Impacted].Value, MainT.Update,
MainT.[Divisions Impacted].Value, MainT.Announced, MainT.Effective, MainT.Stakeholders.Value,
MainT.[Ref#ID], MainT.[Issuing Agencies].Value
FROM MainT
WHERE (((MainT.Content.Value) Like "*" & [Forms]![SearchF]![ContentCB] & "*" Or (MainT.Content.Value) Is Null)

[Code] .....

This means that if I query STATES: "California", I'll get back every possible combination that exists with the name California in that particular field. The issue with this is that I'll get MULTIPLE primary key values rather than just 1. So, if one record, under STATES has California in it, but the other fields in that record have the Lookup & Relationship data-type, then every possible combination of that record will query instead of the multiple field-values form that you'll see in the table I am querying.

notice that my primary key (REF#ID) is repeated numerous times! This obviously causes problems with generating records and forms concerning information for 1 particular primary key. Is there a way around this problem other than specifying search criteria down as much as possible?! Perhaps there is some SQL code.

Datasheet Lookup, With Intermediate Relationship

May 3, 2007

I am working with Independent School Districts (ISD) in the state of Texas. The State is divided into 20 regions. Over 1000 ISDs are divided among those 20 regions. Each of the 1000+ ISDs has between 3 and several hundred individual school campuses. Each has a name, but as you would imagine, there is some duplication - not within an ISD, but between different ISDs. For instance, both Dallas ISD and San Antonio ISD may have a Lyndon B. Johnson campus.

We are an association that has members on most of the campuses.

I am using an autonumber ID as primary key on the member, campus, and ISD tables.

During entry/editing within the member table using the basic datasheet, I want to use a lookup field (showing campus names) to select the campus. That is not a problem by itself. But with many tens of thousands of potential campuses to choose from that doesn't work very well. What I would like to do is restrict the campus lookup to the names within the ISD, that is, filter the lookup by ISD.

However, I don't want to include the ISD in the member records because that will not be full normalization, but I am willing to do so if necessary. But if I do, I want to include only the ISD number (another autonumber primary key for the ISD table). So during member entry, I want to translate the ISD key into the related ISD name for selecting the correct ISD, before I try to select the correct campus within the ISD.

Essentially what I want to do, is member entry thru a datasheet and first look up the ISD to find it by name, then use that selection to filter the lookup on campus to limit the selections to only campus names within the chosen ISD.

I would be grateful for any assistance with this. I am not married to this approach, so if someone has a better but different idea, please suggest it. However, I am a relative novice, so bear that in mind.

Thanks in advance.

Now, I been task to help create a Call Center DataBase to keep track of Phone Calls and Issues the Agents(Employer received Daily) As well run other reports.

I am Including a copy of what I done so far. Can someone advise me about my Database Design? Does it makes sense? Are the Relationship seen good?
my frmCustomer is based on query (qSupport) I would like to know if the form and the SubForm are set up ok where I can have the Agents input data.
And one more thing on the frmMenu I have a few Text Boxes where I would like to display the total Amouth of Phone Calls received - as well the ones pending and Close? Any Criticism or Suggestion are more than welcome.

Need Help With Lookup On Table/form

Apr 22, 2005

I have a contact dB with 2 contacts (main & alternate). I would like to be able to pull any record containing either the main or alt last name up. Right now the unbound combo box works fine pulling up the first contact name but I need to be able to pull up a record if the second contact name matches as well. I am trying to use 1 unbound combo box to look at both fields (LastName1 & LastName2). Is it possible and how should I set it up?

Add To Lookup Table From PopUp Form

Jul 30, 2005

I have a form with a combobox based on a query of a lookup table. If the name entered is not found in the combobox, I want a popup form to open allowing the user to enter a record for this new name in the lookup table, then close. What is the best way to this? A command button? The Not in List Event? A msgbox? I'm not sure.

Updating A Table Using A Form Lookup

Aug 7, 2005

Can anyone help?

I'm having trouble storing autofilled data from one of my forms and I was wondering if anyone has any ideas.

My data is as follows

tblProducts
ProductID
Description
Nett

tblPurchaseOrders
PurchaseOrderID
PODate
Supplier

tblPurchaseOrderDetail
PurchaseOrderID
ProductID
Description
Qty
Nett

Now I have a standard order entry form which works fine, my problem is with the subform:
frmPurchaseOrderDetail
ProductID
Description
Qty
Nett

On my form Description and Nett are auto populated referencing ProductID but this information does not transfer to the table tblPurchaseOrderDetail. The main problem is that a nett price can occasionally chanege (inflation) but I need to be able to look back to a particular order for audit purposes and be able to see what I paid.

I'm sure there is w way round this, but I've been unable to figure it out. I've gone through loads of different threads on the forum and as a result am sure it can be done, I've also looked at the examples posted by several users, but none seem to approach the lookup quite from this angle, does any one have any idea...sorry for the long post, thanks.

Lookup Table Not Working In My Main Form

Jul 14, 2006

I have my main form which is connected to my main table - Query 1

I have a lookup table (actually a view from SQL Server) which holds my user name - the username used to login to the database- just one value.

In my main form I have a 'Logged By' field. I want this field to default to my login name when I process a record.

I thought it would be as easy as connecting the lookup table to my main form and then in default value typing My_login.user_name.

Apparently not. It just has the #Name? in there.

Anyone have an opinion on this ?

I can use the =environ("username") in the default value which works to good effect but different users use each others PC and I would like the field to be defaulted to thier database login and not thier windows on.

Please help ! It seems so small and its driving me ceeerazy !

How Do I Lookup Something From A A Different Table On A Data Entry Form?

Aug 23, 2006

Okay, for simplicity's sake, I have a data entry form.

It is bound to tableData.

Inputs are:

ProductID
Customer Name

ProductID is a combo box.

There is another table called tableProduct. In this table, is ProductID and ProductName.

For convenience sake, when a user chooses a ProductID from the combo box, I want it to lookup that ID from tableProduct. However, how can I do this when everything is already bound to tableData?

Thanks in advance.

Modules & VBA :: Restrict Value In Lookup Field To Only Include Values From Table B Not In Table A?

Feb 2, 2014

I have a database that has 2 tables. Table A and Table B. Table A is my primary table. On this table I have 2 fields. The first field is a LOOKUP Field that looks up information from Table B and displays my selection in the field on Table A. Then using DLOOKUP I automatically input the information in the Second Field on Table A based upon the selection from the First Field.

This is working mostly correctly. However, the problem is, when I click on the next record in the table, it automatically changes the Second Field on that record to the same value as the record before it and continues this trend each time I click on another record. This occurs without me making a selection in the first field. If I make a selection in the first field it does change the Second Field to the Correct Value, but then the next Record has the same issue.

How do I go about fixing this so it doesn't change the value with the change of the record. Only change if I change that particular field within that 1 record?is there a way to restrict the Value's in my lookup field to only include the Values from Table B that aren't already in Table A?

I've got a problem with a make-table query that creates a new table which is then populated with new values that relate back to the original table the trouble is the make-table won't run with that relationship in place.

Is there a way to delete the relationship then reinstate it after the query? or any other way round that someone can think of.

Thank You

Table Lookup - Row Source From Another Table - Only Showing Numbers

Feb 11, 2012

When I have a 3rd table looking at the row source of the 2nd table, which is looking at the row source of the 1st table. I only get numbers.

Everything I have read so far points to using a query as a solution. However, the query I made is not updating the information from the 2nd table.

I have attached a few examples.

Attachment 6247

this below shows. I changed "Bakersfield-test1" in the original table. However, the query I made does not update, still showing "Bakersfield-test". When you click on the drop down, it shows the updated "Bakersfield-test1", but it does not repopulate my column with the updated info from the table.

Need 2 Fields From Table 1 / Using Lookup Info From Table 2 And Put Into Table 3

Jun 28, 2013

I need to get x and y coordinates for each device, but the data has to get looked up from 2 other tables.

I have a table (called InstReclosers) that has device names. Each device is on a Section. I can go to another table (called InstSections) and look up what Node that particular section is tied to. Then I need to go to another table (called Nodes) to get the X and Y location for that particular node.

How I can go about getting this X and Y data into the InstReclosers table?

...in summary, InstReclosers has device name and section name. InstSections has section name and node name. Nodes has node name and XY coords. Need XY coords for each device in InstReclosers.

Can A Table Have A Relationship With Itself?

Jun 6, 2005

How can I have table data refer to other data in the same table? For example: If I have a table of people I know, and I want to 'link' family members together, and these other family members are also listed in the table of people I know.
Table: People
Field#1: PersonID
Field#2: PersonName
Field#3: FamilyMember1 (using the PersonID)
Field#4: FamilyMember2 (using the PersonID)

I hope I've explained myself clearly.
Thanks for any help.

Table Relationship

Feb 1, 2007

Hey guys

Access rookie here (and I mean ROOKIE).

I have two tables.

One with details of people's information (mothers).

We also need to enter information for their babies.

Basically I have set up a form with the info for the mother's details, and she has a Mother ID. The baby also has an ID which should be the same as the mothers (linking the two tables).

When I enter the info into the form for the mothers details, I hit the command button that opens the baby's details, however it has not created a baby ID that is the same as the mother's ID, therefore there is no relationship. If I enter in the baby id, and fill out the form - I goto the table and see that it has made the link and the information is complete. However, I don't want to have to enter the ID each time.....I just want the mother's ID to carry accross to the baby's ID field, hence linking the two.

Why isn't this working?

Thanks for your help!

One To Many Table Relationship

Jul 19, 2007

I'm having trouble modeling a relationship in a database. I need conceptual help. Here is an abstract description: A Class has several common attributes, but there are some attributes that differentiate different instances of this Class. For example, this Class may have x fields. ClassB will have those same fields and several others, so Class B will have (x+y) fields. Class C will also have x fields and an additonal Z fields for a total of (x+z) fields. x and y may be the same number or not, but they will certainly not be the same type of fields. See attached for picture.

My thinking is that since all the classes have x fields in common, why not have super class in its own table (ClassA), and have two (or more) tables composed of y and z fields respectively. The primary key (A1, lets say autonumbered) in the ClassA table would also be the primary key in ClassB and ClassC tables.

My goal is is have a subform within a form, where the form has all the fields from ClassA and the subform will have all the fields from either ClassB or ClassC depending on another field in ClassA (A2, text type for example). In essence, the layout of the subform would change depending on the value of A2 from the ClassA table.

Can this even be done. I think I'm missing something here. Would anyone care to offer advice?

What Table Relationship?

I have no records in horse_information yet. I need it so that when a record is added to the first table then whatever is added to ent_HorseName is added to inf_HorseName. So I want all the records from horse_entries in horse_information. I want to be able to add to horse_information without that record being added to horse_entries. Relationship Table For Other Objects

Sep 18, 2005

I am looking for an easier way to confirm that all a queries that are in a database are being used by the database. I started going through each and every one and it is taking for ever!

I have tried the documenter and either I cannot understand it properly or it does not contain the information that I am looking for.

An example might be I have a query called qryOne. I want to see where it is being used so I am looking for a “list” that says

qryOne = rptOne
qryOne = rptSix
qryOne = rptEightySix

Obviously these are just made up names, but I hope you understand what I am looking for. In essence a relationship table for queries, forms and reports.
