I have a table with names in it that is in a relationship with my master db. I want, if possible, to be able to automatically add a new entry to that table, allowing it to grow and remember past entries over time.
Example: Movie Database, with table listing lead actor/actress that has relationship to the Star field in database
If movie star is in table, they select name
If movie stare is NOT in table, they can add that name in and the table will be updated for future entries. then, when another movie has that same star, the name will automatically be in the list (reduce keying errors so sorts will work).
Is that possible, or do they have to manually add in new star each time in the table before they can update the database?
I have a unbound field form that I am using as a survey. For one example I have a question with several different optional answers (1=high, 2=medium, 3=low) How and where should I update my table with the actual answer if a user picks button 1, 2 or 3 to read in my table high, medium or low.
Hi, Newbie needing a shove in the right direction. My option group will be confusing for a user because it defaults to the Male selection of the Male / Female option. In other words, as the user views the form to scroll through the records, the option button will always be at the Male selection, regardless of what was originally selected to update the table field. Is it possible to hide the option group once it has been used to input that record, or, have it display the correct selection for that particular record?
I am using an Access database for a foreign language dictionary project.
One of the forms I use is populated by a query (qryLemmaTable) to retrieve information from tblLEMMA.
This form works precisely as I intend it to work, but there is a glitch on it that is driving me mad.
The form in question has an option group with 11 radio buttons that correspond to the parts of speech associated with each word in tblLEMMA.
When I click on the button optAdjective I apply a filter and the only records that are displayed are adjectives. (The same applies for Nouns, Verbs, Prepositions etc.)
Here is the glitch: even though the radio buttons apply the filter correctly, no “black spot” appears in the button. Other signals on the screen let me know what word type is selected, so I can accomplish what I want, but I want the “black spots” too!
Perhaps this will be a clue: For each radio button I use the following code in the GotFocus event. Me.FilterOn = False Me.Filter = "wordtype = 'A'" ‘(or N, etc) Me.FilterOn = True
And this for the Lost Focus event Me.FilterOn = False
I have here a test DB that I am using to work on my real DB.
I am trying to take the data in table 2 and append the update column to table 1. [column1], [column2], or [column3], based on what value is currently in control type table.
Control type can be 1, 2 or 3 and is set when the macro first runs. (I don’t have the macro in this DB yet)
I tried writing a iif formula in the Append To: section but that didn’t work or I didn’t do it right.
Hi I wonder if someone could help as I'm relatively new to this. I have tried to search for my answer but I'm not finding stuff that answers my need.
I have 1 table with products (tblProds) and 1 with stocklevels (tblprod_Stocklev). the PLU field is in both tables
tblProds tblprod_stocklev PLU PLU Descritption StockLevel_1 CategoryMaster StockLevel_2 CategoryGroup StockLevel_3 Category StockLevel_4 etc....
My query filters using 3 combo boxes using the category fields and the Option group sets its value to the corresponding number in the stocklevel table from a form (1 for stocklevel_1 etc). I have the category filter working as I need (ie selecting all records if left blank)
So to the question: How do I get my query to retrieve only the stocklevels for the required branch?
I've a form to create new customers accounts. The form has a drop-down control listing the cities in the "cities" table. This drop-down control has a hidden column (id) and a visible column (city_name). The user can choose a citie from the list and the city id (1st column in the drop-down list) will be stored in the "city_id" field in the "customers" table.
Problem:
I need to allow users to enter cities not listed in the drop-down control. When they entrer a new city, I need to create a new record in "cities" table for the new city.
I tried opening a dialog using the NotInList event, and the dialog pops up as espected, but also pops up an ugly msgbox wich says that the typed text isn't a listed item.
I have an Option Group I created (simple Yes-No) in a form that links to a Yes-No field in a table. I have the default set for this field to "Yes" in the form. The option button works when the form is first opened. If I cange the option to "No", that works. Here's the tricky part that is giving me eye twitches...
If I change the option back to "Yes", the radial button doesn't reflect the change...but it does change the table data! Why do the radial buttons stop changing? Even when I close the form and open it again, the data in the table is no longer reflected with the buttons in the form.
Not all the choices (numeric codes) for my form's option box are being saved to the associated table.
I am using the options choices in the option group to enter data into a table and do additional things - clicking one option is supposed put a code in the table and then take you another form, while clicking a different option will make a new option box visible so I can collect additional data.
My option group has three options, only the data from the second option, which makes a second option group visible, is being saved in the table. If someone clicks on the first or thrid option, which takes them to another form, the data from that option choice does not get saved to the table.
I have a table called "Workorders" that I have created a split form for and have customised it so that it had combo boxes etc to enable the user to change the record data.I then needed to add some existing queries to the form so that I could calculate some totals from records in a few other tables. This all works fine EXCEPT that I can no longer change any of the fields in the records.
I am sure that it is something to do with the fact that the 3 queries I added to the form use the "Grouped by" option and based upon my Googling, this is probably the issue. Here is one of the queries:
SELECT DISTINCTROW [Workorder Labor].WorkorderID, Sum([BillableHours]*[BillingRate]) AS [Labor Total] FROM [Workorder Labor] GROUP BY [Workorder Labor].WorkorderID;
I need to have the totals and I also need to have the ability to change the data..
I linked table rawdata from a database called competitor from a ODBC Database. I run a query with to make a table with a criteria where it retrieves roughly 10 columns with 719,000 rows. And it gives me this error.
(Cannot open database". It may not be a database that your application recognizes, or the file may be corrupt.
I asked the creator of the database and they said the database grows automatically and it was created with the same Access version as i am using to run the query.
Also when I do a RUN without creating a table and just selecting and displaying the data it does not give me any issues.
I have several tables linking our employees to certain supervisors, etc.On the Form, there is a drop down with all employees listed that someone can select and then enter the stats required. When someone leaves the firm, I want to remove them from the form dropdown list, but not delete them from the corresponding table. I have seen this in other databases where they someone added an 'Inactive' column with a Yes/No response and when you selected the inactive - yes, that name would disappear from the form when people select names from a dropdown to enter stats.how to make the names disappear from the view in a form, but not in the table related to that form?
i have a standard database with tblProducts, order, employees, customers, suppliers etc. i also have a table called tblperson with personID which acts as a one, with the many in three different tables (customers, suppliers and employee) the person table holds data such as first name last name address city postcode and phone. now, ive created a form called frmPerson that acts as a adding data to my database. ive got a load of buttons a working add, delete and a save button, i also have the option to switch through records next, last, end and first. now basically in this form i want to be able to add data i.e. fill out the text boxes and then have a combo box or something similiar that when i add the data i can basically click an option the says 'employee' 'supplier' or 'customer' and then the data gets added to my person table however the difference is that it will also be associated to the record in the wanted table.
I stumbled upon the Option Group function just yesterday and, happy as a clam, I created a group with 2 options in radio button style. I assigned the values to a field called Registration_Type as the 2 options are "Confirmed Registrants" and "Prospective Attendees".
[Great. That part works well. When I look at the table, a 1 or a 2 is in that field so it's great to know how to control accidental ticking of radio buttons (previous 450 records or so didn't have this option group functionality so one might easily tick one of the buttons. So one part of controlling option group I know I can handle via the table itself for now.]
The challenge is how to ensure the user always ticks one or the other ... I went back to the main table and tested the 'required entry' option for the Registration_Type field but forcing an action like this is not ideal in my mind. The usual error message vagueness for the average user is no good and I don't want to limit the user so much.
Is there a way to simply have a popup come up warning that neither radio button was ticked? Perhaps something linked to the form - i.e., maybe "after update"?? I only learned about attaching code to before and after update on controls a couple of days ago, so not sure if this would be best approach.
Just something to let the user know that nothing has been ticked in the option group as that controls in which of 2 reports the data will show up in so any record not ticked might mean a registrant being left out, which would be rather disastrous <g>.
I have a table called tblCompanies. When a company acquires another company, I need a method by which the acquired company's CompanyID (PK) can be updated to the new company's CompanyID (PK). I also need to be able to update all related CompanyIDs (FKs) to the new value in related tables.
In cases in which the new company does not have an existing record, there is no problem: the company name simply gets changed to the new company and the existing CompanyID is maintained. I then use an audit table and Track Changes function to keep track of the company name data and a union query to keep the old names in the selection lists.
The problem is when both companies already have existing records in the table.
So, let's say I have records for Company A and Company B. Company A merges with Company B and Company B is now the main record. What is the best, simplest and easiest way to update the CompanyID (PK) from A to B and change the CompanyID (FK) to the new value in all related tables?
I am envisioning a pop-up form that directs the user to select the new company and then an update query happens behind the scenes... but exactly how does the criteria for the update query get selected and how do all the related tables get updated? My vba skills are pretty basic, will I need extensive coding to do something like this?
I have one DB that is used for creating/storing customer ID's, and another DB that is used for creating/storing job information for customers.I have linked the table from the customer DB to the job DB.
There is a table in the job database that holds customer name and ID, and some VBA that generates unique job codes.
Is it possible to have the data from the linked table automatically update into the existing table?
How to update data from one table to another table using form.
I have data coming from design team in Database 1 and using form i want search data and assign the job to a person and store it in the database with his name. I have to do this because database from design team is read only.
The attached Access XP file demonstrates my problem. I've included a form to make testing easier.
Each record in the Projects table has one or more linked entries in the Keywordlink table, showing keywords that apply to that record. Each record in Projects has a Yes/No 'Utility' field.
A third table, Keywords, supplies the keywords that the user can apply to records in Projects, using the subform on the main form. The Keywords table also includes a True/False 'Utility' field. I have set this to True for for the first three keywords.
I need a query, a series of queries or some VB code that updates Projects_Utility for all records to True if and only if the record's linked entries in Keywordlink include all of the keywords for which Keywords_Utility is True (a boolean 'and', as opposed to an 'or'). Otherwise, Projects_Utility must be set to False.
In the attached file, with the current settings in the Keyword table, the 'GetSelectedProjects' query should then produce single-row listings for ClientA and ClientF.
I'd appreciate any help you can give me on this. I'm not a programmer, but I can manage a bit of VB code if I have to.
