Tables :: 2 Similar Tables / One Takes Too Long To Append Data

I have being playing with ms access but I really don't know much about it or databases in general.I have created a very simple database to gather twitter following/followers data for research purposes.One table (table01) has a field for the "boss" user (=the user who I gather data for), another field for "client" (=bosses followers or friends).Both fields are numeric and contain the users id's.In order to distinguish if the link is follower or friend there is a third field, called type which can be either 1 (=follower) or 2 (=friend).So the data would look like this:

12345, 54321, 2
If user with user id 12345 had a follower (type 1) with user id 67890 and a friend with user id 54321...In order to avoid getting duplicate rows I also added a unique identifier which is of the form boss_id-user_id-type.So the above row looks like this:
That works just fine.For several reasons I also needed data of the form source - target.So I also made another table (table02) of this form.

In table 2 you don't need the "type" field since the position of the user id shows the type of relationship.Still, you need a unique identifier in order to avoid duplicates, so I added on with the form: source_id-client_id..So table02 lookes like this
Both tables also have a date/time stamp for each line.As you can see, table01, having also a type field is bigger than table02.The problem is when I try to append data, exactly the same data in both tables.Appending data to table01 is ok, while appending data to table02 (which is smaller, having one less field) takes a really long time, maybe 10 times as long as appending data to table01.To make sure that no query's are causing the problem I have tried first creating temporary tables with the data to be appended, no duplicates, nothing that would cause the database to make extra calculations and used a simple update query with no filters to append data.Still I get the same result, table02 takes a very long time to finish while table01 finishes in no time.
I have 3 tables, with the same field in each of the three tables. I need to find numbers (within those fields) that are similar in all 3 tables. If a number appears in all 3 tables, then all the data for that number need to be pulled from each table and placed in one row, all corresponding to that one number.
I can get this to work for 2 tables, using a query, but not three.
We have a split database with the front end on 3 user pcs and the backend on the network
I have the only full version of access on my pc for editing the front end and the others have access runtime to use the database
Problem: Since I split the database this way it takes horrendously long to make any modifications to the front end design of queries, forms or reports. I mean when I go to save changes on a form it takes about 10 mins to do it. Likewise design modifications to a form are very slow. eg click a field to move it and theres a delay of 5 seconds before the field is selected then another 5 seconds to respond to the next mouse move. Frustrating
Can anyone shed any light on the reason for this and/or suggest a solution.
btw it doesnt seem to make a difference whether the other users have the database open or not.
I have a form that takes a long time to open – around a minute and sometimes longer. The form is based on a query, and this query on its own opens almost right away. Why would a form take so long to load up? What factors can increase a form’s load time?
I have encountered an issue when I was inserting a string (with newlines about 176 characters) into access table. This field in access has the data type TEXT and it was truncated after the insertion. It is strange because I have three other fields with the same format and no truncation at all. May I know what could be the reason and how/what is the recommend data type for storing long text?
When I run the analyzer on all object types it recommends to change the data type for field "zip" (zip code) to "long integer to:
"benefit that table and potentially other objects in my database"
The field type is currently set to text, And I have the same setting for the same field in a separate table, yet it does not come up with a recommendation for that table.
Additionally, I don't seem to have the option "long integer" for the field data type???
Access leaves the data with the letters in it (shown in bold) blank, how can I solve this, because I want to paste everything. I already put in design view the settings to text, but it doesn't work...
Firstly I would like to state that i have very little knowledge of Access databases (my job is not computer related) but I am trying my best to get a few issues sorted... So here it goes: I have 2 tables, one large table with about 3-4000 rows(horizontal lines), and a smaller table with only about 1000 rows.
The rows in the big table contain Products (name, dates, adresses, phone numbers etc) and every product has a 'Codename' in a column-line (vertical) of the big table. (there are about 3000-4000 products) In the small table there exists a similar column-line (vertical) that contains 'Codenames' of the Products listed in the big table, but there are only ~ 1000 'Codenames' not the full 4000 ! The reason for this is that in the small table there exists another column-line(vertical) that for every code listed (in the small table) contains a certain specific "description".
My task is to get all the 1000 "descriptions" from the small table inserted into the Big table accordingly to their proper 'Codename'. This means createing a new column in the big table and: if the codename exists in small-table insert the description in the new column-cell, if the codename doesnt exist in small-table leave new-cell empty...
How do i do this ? :) Im guessing some coding is envolved.. and i have no clue whatsoever.... Thank you, George P.
I have the following code, the purpose of the code is that to take all rows from each table to append them into one table. However, I am testing this code with 2 tables (Table2 and Table3) each table has 2 records, when I run the code, it keeps adding records to table 1 that exceeds one million. what is wrong with my code?

So I am pulling data from a SQL data base into access and appending it to certain tables. To do this I have 15ish append queries. Is there a way to have them run in a certain order with one command?
I have a table in MS Access 2010 with a Date field and 3 Memo fields. I wish to append data to the Access table from a MS Word doc that has a date field and 3 memo fields. My wish is to have a command button on the MS Word doc which appends the data to my Access Table.I am aware that a web page can append data to an Access table.
I have 5 tables which comes from different departments in our company. All of them have the same key "project no" but hold different information in other colums. As a starting point I have secured that they all have same no. of records meaning all "project no" are in all tables but some table might not contain other information in that record than the project no. I have put them into a quirie and on a form I am able to look at all data from all 5 tables. I have linked them one to one and it works fine untill I add a record to one of the tables. Afterwards I am not able to write into fields from other tables because there is no automatic creation of the record in the other tables. Please How would this be best/easiest to make for me. ? The reason why I have to keep the 5 tables is that regular updates are avaiable form any of them.

Hi there, I'm quite new to Access.I have two tables which have very similar Data, but laid out differently. The main similarities are things like FirstName, LastName, Company. What I need to be able to do is merge the two tables together into one super table. I've tried linking FirstName with FirstName and LastName with LastName on both tables, and running a query, so I can check for duplicate names. But all that brings up is a list like this:Steve Smith Steve AbrahamsSteve Smith Steve McDonaldSteve Smith Steve PerrySteve Smith Steve Vere(those columns would be Old FirstName, Old LastName, New FirstName, New LastName)There are fields in the old table that are not in the new, and vice versa. How would I go about joining tables with similar fields? I currently have three tables that show standings of teams (East, Central, and West). They all have the same fields:

How would I combine them in a query so that all of the data from the tables are compiled into one table:

I am trying to join two tables in a query. One of the tables has only the fullname while another has only the surname (this table is imported from an external database). I need to be able to match the two tables up. Can anyone please suggest how to do this or even if this is possible.

I am having an issue with duplicates in my table. I have a table, called "Part Mods", that has about 12 fields in it. the first 2 of them are "Mod" and "Part Number". I have a form where someone can insert data into this table and what i want is for them to NOT be able to insert a record with the same Mod/Part Number combination of an already existing record. I have "indexed" turned on but I am pretty sure that is for every field.
I have a database which is importing several Excel workbooks, each with multiple worksheets. Every workbook has 20 worksheets, with the same 20 worksheet names. When they are imported they come in as one table for each worksheet, named tblWorkSheetName_X with X starting at 1 and increasing for each worksheet brought in with the same name. So if the worksheet names are A-T I have tblA_1 through tblA_6 and likewise for B - T.
I would like to combine all of the tables which come from similar worksheets into one table (one table per name).
I.e. I want to combine the data in tblA_1 through tblA_6 into a singular tbl_A and likewise for tables B through T. So in the end I will have one table for each worksheet name A-T. t how to code this successfully?
Is there another field that can be used beside the lookup field in an Access table? I am currently using the lookup field as a multivalued lookup field and I am limited to the the things I can do with it when creating a report or a query on that field. Is there a similar field in Access 2010 that has the same look as a lookup field and allows for multiple values to be selected?
I have been using Access 2013 to make a database which outputs values to PowerPoint. Everything has been working fine up to now that I'm trying to add to the presentation.
I have two tables with data in which are both brought together in a query which my VBA code relates to to output it to Powerpoint. Both tables contain data in 'long text' fields. The data from one outputs into PowerPoint textboxes without any issues regardless of the length of the data but the data from the other one is truncated to 255 characters. It definitely says it is a 'long text' field - is there any reason it would truncate the output?
Is there a way to merge duplicate/similar Access 2010 records into one record?
I have an Access table with 1,000 duplicate records, although they are similar and not exact duplicates. As you can see below, some records contain information that other records do not. Yet, the primary key is the same for all duplicate records. I want to find a way to merge data from filled cells of duplicate records into empty cells for each duplicate record. I do not want to concatenate the data (i.e. combine last and first name, etc.). I only want to fill empty cells if there is a match for it in a duplicate record. I will delete the newly exact duplicate records later. Short of correcting the records by hand.

The data from one outputs into PowerPoint textboxes without any issues regardless of the length of the data but the data from the other one is truncated to 255 characters. It definitely says it is a 'long text' field - is there any reason it would truncate the output?
I am a pretty novice user currently playing around with Access 2013 using Office 365.
I used to love the old style Memo field where people cut put in carriage returns to split up data. I am wondering if this function has been removed with this LONG TEXT FIELD or is there a way around it.
I like it because I tend to use it as a tracking field and like the newest "comments" at the top separated by a Carriage Return...
Currently trying to build a database for customer management and order placement/tracking. Want to set a couple of rules so that if I for instance click yes of billing and shipping address the same that the database will automatically fill the shipping address with the data I inputted for the billing address in the same table.
The other issue I can see I'll run into is, I want to be able to select one of the company ID's (made up of a three letter abbreviation of the full company name) in the product ordering table and it will automatically fill in the rest of the customer data (phone, email, address etc) data into that form.
I need to copy over subform contents, for which I use an Append Query (actually, I use its SQL in VBA code to pass it the right parameters).
Now, naturally, I ran into Key Violations, because taking 50 sub-records from the original they would have their own AutoNumber Keys (ID's) and I can't append them into the same table.
My question: how do I copy over the same records (appending FROM and TO the same table) but cause the table to insert AutoNumbers for the records being appended?
