Tables :: Add ID Number That Always Increase By 1each Time Add New Record To Table
Jan 23, 2013
How can I add an ID-number that always increases (by 1) each time I add a new record to a table (using a form)? I want to always use some info from the record that was added last to fill in a different form. The reason for my question is that I heard that the autonumber does not necessarily increase each time a new record is added...

I have a table, tblEvents, which I use to store information about a meeting, training session or field trip, including the [StartDate]. I also have a table, tblEventDays, which I use to store the [DayNumber] 1, 2, 3... At the moment I have to enter the day numbers in the subform frmEventDays manually, but I would like to add button controls to increase/decrease the number of days for each event (i.e. add a new record where [DayNumber] is incremented by 1, and delete the last record if I have added too many day records).
I have added button controls to my EventDays subform and managed to use the macro builder to select and duplicate the last [DayNumber] record, but cannot figure out how to increase each successive [DayNumber] by 1.
1. Add a day...
Option Compare Database
Private Sub AddDay_Click()
?
End Sub
2. Remove a day...
Option Compare Database
Private Sub RemoveLastDay_Click()
?
End Sub

I'm using Dmax() to return a max number in a field which I then want to inc by 1 for a new record. Dmax is returning 999. I believe Dmax therefore thinks it's a text field. So where do I change this to a number field?

Hi,
I have a question.
I want to make a action on every 2 hours on the form.
On form time interval, I set 1000
Private Sub Form_Open()
a = "00:00:00"
End Sub
Private Sub Form_Timer()
On Error GoTo Err_mess
timelabel = CDate(a) + cdate("00:00:01")
Err_mess:
End Sub
I want to start 00:00:00, and then add 1 second on every time interval=1000.
eg.
00:00:00
00:00:01
00:00:02
00:00:03
...
...
01:00:00
How can I make it? Thanks.

I have an 18.8MB Access application consisting of the following:
140 tables
410 Queries
67 Forms
5 Macros
26 Modules
It's not a lot of data storage, but is very computationally and mathematically intensive. As we continue to develop and expand the application, I noticed last week that we suddenly experienced a massive falloff in performance. Access is taking an incredibly long amount of time to traverse the querydefs collection, find objects, etc. It seems that the object collections themselves are not indexed, meaning that it takes a much longer amount of time to run a compiled and saved query than it does to simply build the SQL string and execute from within code. I continue to hunt for coding bottlenecks and any other efficiency problems I can find. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a "critical mass" for the object containers?

Is it possible to increase the number of columns in Access 10?I upgraded MS Office because I knew Excel no longer restricted you to 256 columns. I often pull data from a data base that uses as many as 800 columns.When I try to open these files I get a "too many cross tabs" error prompt.

I just came across a problem that I didn't recognize before. I had an invoice table and corresponding form that had an autonumber for the invoice number. The problem now is that I would like the invoice number to begin at 256 and then increase incrementally, because I had some previous invoices from my books. How to go about doing this.

I have a form with multiple fields on it. We will call them SLO
They are text boxes and there are 6 of them named SLO1, SLO2.....SLO6
What I want to do, is use VB to update each as a string to a table individually. But Id like to only type the code once, and use a DO WHILE and increase the value by one. Example.
Current Code looks like this:
Private Sub UpdateButton_Click()
Set rstNewInventoryDataRecord = CurrentDb.OpenRecordset("Select * FROM MetricData")
Set CurrentForm = Screen.ActiveForm
Dim Counter As Integer
Counter = 1
rstNewInventoryDataRecord.AddNew
rstNewInventoryDataRecord.SLO = CurrentForm.SLOT1.Caption
rstNewInventoryDataRecord.Update
MsgBox "Update Complete"
End Sub
What I want to do is use the counter to increase by one after each loop and stop after 6. So...Do while Counter < 7
And increase the CurrentForm.SLOT1.Caption by one each time.
I've tried
rstNewInventoryDataRecord.SLO = CurrentForm.SLOT & Counter.Caption
and
rstNewInventoryDataRecord.SLO = CurrentForm."SLOT" & Counter.Caption
As well as a few other ideas all to no avail. Is this possible?

I'm trying to create an Access database for my college so that our call centre can allocate students to a specific interview time/date. The problem I'm having is that each interview slot must only have a maximum of 10 students at a time.
I'm creating tables for the student details, address and for each interview slot available.
I'm using Access 2010.
How I can limit the number of records in a table to 10 so that when that interview slot is full it informs the user?

Currently if an employee attends a mandatory training session the details are entered individually into in a single table which contains all the employees' attendances to training, this is achieved via a bound form.
Works Fine.
My question is, if the training is carried out by a number of employees can this attendance be recorded on one form and assigned to each of the employees who attended?
Using Access 2003

I have an Access2007/SQL Server 2012 system with 20 users for an insurance company. The company does most of its business via a network of vehicle dealers around the country. If someone comes in to buy a motorcycle, boat, or recreational vehicle at a dealership they need insurance to take it home, and our dealers send the quotes to us.
The dealers, in turn, receive payment from us each month for their efforts. Some are paid a % commission on the premium, some are paid for each quote they send regardless of whether the policy actually sells or not, and some are paid a set amount per sold policy. (Yes, that is relevant information!)
We already have reports that tally the amounts due each dealer based on their payment scheme, but last month our bookkeeper had to write about 650 checks manually because the check writing is not automated. She'd look at the report, and then enter name, address, and amount (in digits and words) into Quick Books and print the checks from there, a horribly tedious process. I've been asked to print the checks from Access. Basically one click would print all 650 checks.
I've opted to use a Make Table query to move the commissioned dealers amounts to a single location, and then to run two append queries to add the records from those paid per quote and those paid per policy. At the end of the day, one table contains all the information necessary to print the checks...except one.
The check number.
I need a way to sequentially number each record in the new table with a user generated starting point, the first check number.
By the way, the check blanks are on standard letter sized paper, three to a page, with tear-off perforations to separate them, in case that information has any relevance.
I think the best way to accomplish this is from the report itself. I've created a blank field on each record for the check number, and what seems most logical is that the sequential number is generated on print and written back to the table, rather than just generating all the numbers at once. That way, should print ever be interrupted, it will be easy to take up where we left off.

What I have is a database setup with multiple tables in which different areas of my DC can input information simultaneously into their respective tables. I then have another database linked to it for myself to have a live view of each updated record. I would like to see all the records of each table in 1 single table (possibly just sorted ascending by time). Each table has the same Field headings but may have different qtys of records. As I will then have it linked to an Excel table to VLOOKUP from it.
I have tried Union coding but always get Syntax Error etc.

I need to track employee training hours and employee backfill hours. I will need to see which employee was training, and the employee who filled in for him. Both will have the same info. Is there a way to use two tables on one form, and keep the record number the same in each table? I would need to be able to match the data in table 1 to the data in table 2 by record number.
I thought about one giant table, but I think it may get really confusing. Any ideas?

I am trying to do has to be done in a table and without the use of forms (becasue its what works for us) in Access 2007. I have a table where my staff records a number of different data fields for accounts. I currently have a 3 table relationship established. One of these table is our "Notes" table. My staff enters continuous notes for different accounts as new information come in.
What I have done is set my "date" field's default value to "now()" which accomplishes the time-stamp I need, but at the same time as soon as they type anything in another field in that row Access creates another row which is unwanted. follow up how can I go about also having a field that auto fills w/ the user's name/ID?

I have a table with an autonumber field, which of course is indexed with no duplicates. Twice in recent days it has attempted to add a record with an autonumber that is not the high number - it is about 20 numbers below the high number. So we get a 'can't add this record' error.
I can fix this by copying the table to a temporary table and then copying it it back. Then the autonumber works correctly.
What can I do to prevent this? By the way we updated to Access 2010 a couple of weeks ago, but the data is still Access 2003. We are reluctant to update the data yet in case it causes more problems.

I have "Master" table with fields "Job No" and "Revision No". Both together is a primary key, so that combination of both cannot be duplicated. I have 100 other tables to be related with referential integrity(+update&delete) to Master for both fields. Apart from Job No and Revision No, all 100 tables have different set of fields which is why I had to come with so many tables.
Due to 32 limit rule, I had to come up with workaround method to have all 100 tables in the relationship. So, I created 5 other SubMaster1, SubMaster2, ...., SubMaster5 which are related to Master with relationship with referential integrity (+update&delete). Then I assigned 20 tables to each SubMaster so that 20 tables are related to each SubMaster table.
Whenever I create new record in Unit, the new record is generated in each SubMaster using update query for each SubMaster table. I have all the forms and necessary query laid out. The only missing part is being able to duplicate a record. I have limited knowledge in VBA, but I should be able to modify it to address to my requirement.
I want to copy a given record in Master, SubMasters and 100 tables as a new record. I need this feature so that I can select certain Job No and Revision No and copy that as a new Job No(assigned manually in a form) and 0 as the revision number. Possibly a button which will ask for new job number and copy everything from the active Job No and Revision No to a New Job No and "0" Revision No. The existing record may not be there on all 100 tables for the given Job No and Revision No. If it is there, then copy otherwise ignore for each of the tables.
I have a table "ItemList" which lists all the unique name of the 100 tables.

Access 2003. I am trying to save a calculated field (Item No) from a form to the accosiated field within the Products table
I have a hidden text box (itemNo) which is bound to the relevant field and a second text box with the following formula
="TV-" & Left(CatShort.column(1),3) & "-" & Format([ProductID],"0000") as its source
What I am trying to do is to provide an item number for each item of stock based on the Category short name (Catshort) and the incremented item ID Number, with a TV prefix.
I am aware that its a bad itea to place calculated field into the table if the calculation is likely to change, however once my calculation is stored it has no need to change.
I have tried the beforeUpdate method within the ItemNo textbox
Private Sub ItemNo_BeforeUpdate(Cancel As Integer)
Me!ItemNo = Me!ItemCalc
End Sub
but nothing happens (in that the table is not updated)
Any way of putting together an incremental item number based on the selected category with a "TV" prefix....

HI all,
I am still new in Access databases :o
I have a table with 'General Date' column. So I have to create query wich extracts records between Last record (via Date field) and 'for example' 10 days before. But Last record in Date column may differ from Now().
When this is done I have create calculations with extracted records using agregate functions.
I'm trying to use Last function for Criteria putting it into Date field and substracting with -10 (for 10 days) but it doesn't work.
Please help! :confused:

I am pretty new to MS access and have a question that I have not been able to figure out. I am making a database with a form to input the data in to the database. The only thing is I want to be able to search/lookup/record data by the products ID code and not by its record number. For example, product 1234 instead of entry number 1. How would I go about this? Thanks for your time!

Hi
How can I make the primary key (participant #) in my table equal the record number on the Form? In other words, when I open the form, I need two things to always happen:
1. the primary key must equal the record number (which is displayed on the form)&
2. when I click "Add New Record" button, I want a new customer # automatically generated and in the correct order.
Is this possible? I've been struggling...
