Tables :: Adding More Data In List Sorted In Numerical Order
Sep 27, 2012
I have a list of 22 soccer players with their weights sorted from heaviest to lightest in numerical order. I want to add further players and have the list reflect their standing each time it changes i.e. Col 1 Player ID, Col2 FirstName, Col 2 SecondName, Col 3 Mass:90 Kgs Col 4 Position In group: 1
A new player registers and is 95Kg.....he becomes #1 and the rest go down etc. Can this be done?
I have a problem with a cascading form, which writes back to another table. The scenario is:
There are three tables. Users, Departments & SubDepartments.
Each table has an Autonumber set as the primary key .
The form is to write back to the user table, and within the user table there is a Department & SubDepartment field. These are linked to the relevant tables and all that works.
For the form I have two combo boxes for Department and SubDepartment. Department simply pulls from the Departments table and displays/writes back to User table correctly.
The SubDepartment is the one I am having problems with. I have got it to cascade correctly but here is the exact issue:
On the existing records the subdepartment is being displayed as a number (the primary key autonumber). The drop down list displays the text of what the subdepartment is (which is what I require) but then when that is selected it throws up the error that the value entered isn't correct for that field. I guess it's because it wants to write back the numerical record ID rather than the text from the other field.
The row source query is SELECT [qrySubDepartment].[SubDepartmentName] FROM qrySubDepartment ORDER BY [SubDepartmentName];
The table fields for the subdepartment table are SubDepartmentID, SubDepartmentName, DepartmentID and SDID.
SDID can be ignored for the purpose of this question and DepartmentID links back to the main department. Just to confirm visually the cascading form does work in terms of when you pick a department it only displays the subdepartments associated to it.
I've got a rapidly expanding database that I designed to do my quotes for work and now I'm trying to expand it to add up the invoice amounts when the jobs come to fruition. I've got 99% of it working well but as I'm not the only one entering data I'm trying to make it as foolproof as possible and here is my problem.
I have a multi-line textbox that receives 'vehicles' in an abbreviated format and I need to get them in order based on a sort column number in the appropriate table. This i can do but the code I have found removes the duplicates which I don't want as I can can two identical vehicles on the same job.
Ok what I have is a List box with four rows. (Name, Assignment, Location, Description) These are all labeled with a frame at the top that when that frame is selected that row is put into alphabetical order. The next thing I have is a combo box which also sorts the List box by "major location". The combo box has the following (All, Fort Mills, Corporate, Pequot Lakes, Savage, Retail) When one of those is selected the location row then shows only one of the following locations and the others are removed. Here is where the problem comes into place. I want to be able to select a major location, then be able to sort with the frame. When I select a major location, and then click on the frame, lets say "Name" the list resets back to everything from that table and not just that certain "Major Location" that I have selected. I need to sort whatever is selected in that "Major Location" by whatever is selected in that frame. thanks for any help, I know its a hard one.
I have an ASP form that saves numerical data to an access database via an insert statement in the asp page.
The main problem i have is that i have some code that adds all the stored values together and provides a total on the screen for the user to print off.
I would like to save this 'total' value to a field in the table but cannot seem to get this to work.
So i thought of running a query in access that would add the sum total of a number of fields and store it to the total field.
In a query I'm trying to return a list of rows sorted by Service Type Ascending and then the last item in the list should be a row called "Add Edit Value".If I 'ORDER BY 2' then the "Add/Edit" row appears at the top which is not what i want.
My SQL: SELECT '' As ServiceTypeID, 'ADD/EDIT VALUES' As ServiceType FROM ServiceTypes UNION SELECT ServiceTypes.ServiceTypeID, ServiceTypes.ServiceType FROM ServiceTypes ORDER BY 1 DESC;
What I have is a database setup with multiple tables in which different areas of my DC can input information simultaneously into their respective tables. I then have another database linked to it for myself to have a live view of each updated record. I would like to see all the records of each table in 1 single table (possibly just sorted ascending by time). Each table has the same Field headings but may have different qtys of records. As I will then have it linked to an Excel table to VLOOKUP from it.
I have tried Union coding but always get Syntax Error etc.
how do you loop through and insert selected data from a listbox on at a time? For example, lets say you have an insert statement that has a firstname, lastname, CarsID(foreign key) and address field. Lets say you had another table that has ID and CarsID(primary key) field. In the listbox, you have populated it with all the cars and they are selected.
Example:
INSERT INTO PEOPLE(firstname, lastname, CarsID) VALUES('John','Smith','Honda') INSERT INTO PEOPLE(firstname, lastname, CarsID) VALUES('John','Smith','FORD')
I have a client table with a field called location. On a reports form that I have, I want to make a combobox for all of the locations, so it could show all the clients from a particular location and also it would reduce the errors due to someone spelling a place name wrong. I could set the source to the location field in the table, but that would show them all in the order they come out and there would be duplicates.
I've been using MS Access 2007 for years to manage some Excel data. running some queries etc. Just recently I've been encountering problems when importing data into an existing table. When I do it now, I get a "Subscript out of Range" error. To troubleshoot, I imported into a new table and when doing so, the fields no longer match the column order of the spreadsheet. They all get imported but appears in a different order. I think this is why I am getting the error message. How can I go about ensuring that the data gets imported properly into my already existing table? My fields in "Design View" will match the order of the Columns in the Excel spreadsheet.
is there any way I can make a field with a data type that calculates numbers in the field but also allows text to be entered into the field (e.g. N/A or No Score) The non-numerical data certainly wouldn't have to be calculated and could be filtered out when calculating averages and other numerical operations.
hi, i am new to access and struggling so any help would be great...
i have a db with 3 tables. students contains a Primary Key ('studentid') and then 'firstname' and 'lastname' fields. The two other tables (contactdetails, coursedetails) have 'studentid' as a Primary Key and then they each have other fields.
I set up relationships between the tables (1 to 1) but i would now like to create a form that will allow me to enter data to all three tables at the same time. (this would be ideal as it keeps the data normalised) if this isn't possible i would like to create a form that adds the 'studentid' record to each of the tables.
let me know if you need anymore details but if someone can point me in the right direction it would be cool.
Table one is for person ID Table two is for number of absences
I created a one-to-many relationship with the update/delete option selected. It didn't work when I wanted to add new data into the tables (via form). Then I tried a many-to-many relationship (with a third table) but it doesn't seem logical to do so, as I only need to add particular data into one table, but need a field from the 1st to differentiate records.
(table 1 = one record per person, table 2 = multiple records for 1 person)
Looking for (semi) generic piece of code that knows how to handle (semi) random XML files and structures, preferably creating tables and columns on the fly...
Or some code that will read an XML tree and genericaly will add the data to the tables it can find?
I am new to access but I am familiar with SQL databases. I have two tables: one for project data and another for project leader data. These tables are linked by a third table that relates projectIDs to leaderIDs. I am currently working on making a form that will go through each project and display the people involved in each project in a subform. I pulling the data from the the leader table that matches the the projectID with a query.
I would like to be able to update the information in this subform directly (which I can currently do) and be able to add new project leaders to a project. What is the best way to add the new leader to this? If a person is already in the database how do I add them with the form without re-adding new information to the table?
I have a main form[frmResearchNotes] with combo box controls that filters a query populating [subfrmNotelist] containing several records from the filtered query. From there, I double click on a field within one of the remaining records, [CompanyName] for example, and it opens the new form[frmNoteDetail]. The problem is that second form is not displaying that selected record. The second form's record source has been set to the same query so when it loads, it displays the same info but it's displaying the 1st record out of the entire filtered list, not the record I clicked on in that list.
I figured I could use the strWhere function to copy the record I selected in the event procedure and then open the new form with those details. Not sure how to actually do this with VBA or if it's even the correct approach.
I need to manage a list of, in this case "medications", with this list the most common "meds" are on the top of the list. there will be at times new "meds" added that should be at the top of the list. I want to create a unbound box that will let me drag the "meds" up or down in the list. The best emample i know of is the way you can set the "Tab" fields on a form to move the tabs stops.
How to define Order that starts with a dependency on the existing value.
Basically, a function that chooses what Status Validation to run then knows when to stop that displays some very simple predictive Inference.
Each Record has a Status. The Status will generally be correct 85% of the time. Once in a while, various things in the database are updated that triggers the business need to change the status.
-A collection of Rule based validation functions matches each Status. -The objective is not to run Rule 1 through 40 sequentially for each record. -Each Rule Validation function is lengthy and can take 0.1 seconds per rule (per record). -If the current record's rule is still valid 85% of the time, Then run that Status Rule Validation function first. -If the Validation returns True, there is no need to run the rest of the rules. Move to the next record.
The challenge: Statistically, if the Current Status failes its Rule Validation, there is a high probability that one of the Status Validation Function near to the current Status will validate to true.
Like the board game Clue, once a Validation Rule comes out False, there is no need to check it for that single record again.
In an extremely simplistic world, think about Status of : Order in Progress, Order Completed, Completed Order Paid, Shipping in Progress, Item Shipped Ready, Shipped, In Transit, Delivered, Rejected, Payment Recended, ...
So, if the current status was In Transit, there is a higher odd that Delivered would be the next. There would be no need to start from the beginning again. The wonderful world of Metadata.
I have code attached to a command button to fill a Combo Box with data from a music collection. A letter of the alphabet is entered into a Text Box then records beginning with that letter are copied from a table, either by Artist or Title. They are saved to a temporary table at which time they are in no particular order. Those records are copied to a further table and saved in alphabetical order. This table is then used to fill the Combo Box.
I used two temporary tables because the records were not displayed in the correct order. I hoped this might cure it, it did not. The records are in order in the table but not in the Combo Box.
Code: Private Sub Command68_Click() 'SEARCH AND FILL COMBO BOX On Error GoTo errTrap DoCmd.SetWarnings False DoCmd.RunSQL "DELETE * FROM tempList;"
