Tables :: Capturing Data From Pre-existing Survey

I've been tasked with creating a database for responses to a survey (that's already been created). There are several aspects most of which i've been able to handle (i.e. the Demographic portion)...The survey has 12 questions with pre-defined answers...What is the best way to set up the "question/answer" side of the survey.

When i try to import data from an excel file to an existing table in MS Access database i get a pop up saying "Access was unable to import data". When i click OK it says "finished importing data" .But when i go to the table there are no new records added. Can anyone please help me with this ? All the fields in the excel file are as they are in the table.

First off, its been a long time since I have been here (since sometime in 2003 LOL), partly because I didn't have to create a new db in a while. Now, I have been handed a project and come across something new.
OK, here is what I want to do. I would like to be able to dump data from an Excel file into existing Access tables (two to be more specific). Now, I also have relating tables that add data into certain fields. I tried using a query to try to group data ad hopeful able to dump data through the query. I noticed that I couldn't import data through a query. Just for kicks, I tried to pull data through table and noticed that I can only create a new table, not able to update and existing table.
How would I go about performing this task? I have never attempted anything in the past.

Ive tried making command buttons for each of the three tables that when you click on it, it automatically updates the tables, but it doesnt seem to be updating them. Is this the right code for that to happen?

Could you answer a diabolical question? I am trying to track the changes of a record in a table when I have imported a text file.
I will import a txt file everyday and to that end I have wrote the code for the insert of new records into customer table and customer history tables and then the updates into the customer table.
However I will only be able to capture the updates in tables as there will be multiples. I understand that Jet can't capture the updates at the table level (no triggers).
So the diabolical question, is it possible to capture the updates only in tables using code??

Hi All,
I'm a novice to Access and I need some help developing a form page where by users can input and record daily project activities.
I have most of the form complete, however, i find that when a user accesses the page the previous record is sometimes showing. How do I setup my form page so that all fields are blank everytime? And how do I set it up so that a user can't scroll through records in the form screen.?

I have this pivot chart (please see attached screenshot) that I was hoping to use to display results of a survey that was conducted by our nonprofit organization. I have it filtering by a few demographics (age, gender, parental status), and then the results of a few other questions below it. My problem is that I'm not sure what results I'm looking at -- whether they're totals of all the responses, just the "true" responses, or...?
The survey asked questions similar to what you see in the field list. Each question is a column header in my table. Then the row headers are each respondent. The choices for answers were "true", "false", or nothing. So in all the cells, i entered t, f, or nothing accordingly.
I'm not sure if I'm not using the pivot chart correctly, or if I didn't design the table for the data correctly.

I am sure I am not asking a question that has not been asked before. I have a form and i can capture who edited the form using log in ID. But now the issue that is coming my way is that certain date field are more critical and we need to know who amended those dates and whether it is possible to find out what was the pre existing date?

I have a project that in Access. I'll be handling a survey file that will maintain answers per customer. The visit to customer is done monthly in a year, which means that a customer can have 12 visits in a year. My problem is that if I will maintain this project for the next five years or more, I have to maintain another field in my table that will block the duplicate entries.

So, I'm very new to Access and not all that skilled in VBA. I have, through trolling the internet found some code that does allow me to send an email on the click of a button on a form through Lotus Notes.
However, I cannot get any of the data on the form to show up in the email.
How do I even do something simple like, have the subject line come from a text box on the form or have the body come from a text box (or 2)?
Here is the code I have so far - also, the "attachment" part does not work - but one problem at a time...

I'm currently developing an MS Access (2010) application and connected a barcode scanner to it for reading barcode information.
Everything seems to work well for what concerns capturing the data into a field, but what I would like to do is to populate a complete form once the barcode has been captured and filled-in in the specific "barcode" field. The data that should be populated in the form comes from different tables.
How to send an enter after the barcode data has been captured? Objective is to read data from a barcode, which after an enter or update automatically populates the data in the form afterwards.
The barcode data is already in the DB.

in a query, I would like to capture data that is in the following format:
123456 (6 digits) AND
A12345 (1 letter and 5 digits) AND
AB1234 (2 letts and 5 digits)
The letter could only be at the beginning of the abbreviation.

Hi, I have a survey database file containing the following tables
tblQuestions - contains survey questions
tblResponse - contains responses inputted by user
tblRespondents - contains info on user (e.g. Name, Add...etc)
Is it possible that answer to some questions are dependent on other questions?
for example:
Question 1 -True/false
Question 2 -True/false
Question 3 -True/false
If question1=false or question2=false then question3=false
(the response to question 3 is automatic and dependent on the responses of question1 and question2)

I have a form that collects data from a survey. The survey has been undertaken before and the equipment being surveyed may carry an ID number and I have the original survey data in a table. If the old survey ID is entered into a field it automatically populates several other fields with the original data....neat!
But that data is not necessarily correct and for this survey I am going to great lengths to ensure the data is as "normalized" as possible so the data is prepopulated into a field with validation. Normally when something is entered into these combo fields I validate with a not in list event and ask if the entry should be added. If I prepopulate with a me.xxxxxx = oldsurveydata the entry is accepted without question. Is there some way to fire the not in list event? I've tried me.repaint, requery etc. but no success.

I am working from an existing database which is just two table. The main table has a massive amount of redundancy and duplication and needs splitting into, at first glance, 5 tables.
After I have run my various make table queries and added a Primary Key and FK field to the new tables how do I populate the FK with the Parent PK.
I thought I could simply add all the fields from the new table and then create an adhoc join in an update query to populate the PK to the FK. When I do this however I get "You are about to update 0 records"
I have tried the table analyzer but it doesn't give the correct options to split the table the way I need.

I would like to add a field[dol] to an existing table[rei]. I need this new field[rei].[dol] to be populated with existing data from another table[main] based on the associated field[main].[account1] or [main].[account2] or [main].[account3].
Table1[main]
...account1
...account2
...account3
...dol
[code]...
In the [main] table. There is always data in [dol]. But there is NOT always data in the [account] fields. Sometimes there is multiple account numbers per [dol] but not always.
Customers will ALWAYS have at least 1 [account] number and [dol]. Some will have multiple [account] numbers and [dol]. Sometimes these [account] numbers are the same in multiple fields[account1] [account2] [account3].I just need to do a lookup or something to find the [account#] and pull in its [dol] from the [main] table and populate it in [rei].[dol].

I have a database that I import data from an excel spreadsheet into multiple times daily. The table that this data is imported into has several key fields that if the data already exisits in the table, and I attempt to import data that is the same except for one or more of the key fields is different. At this time the database it creates a different record. I am trying to get the database to overwrite the data in the database.

My db has multiple linked tables. As time passes and work on a project continues data needs to be added to a separate table that is linked to the first table to be populated.
i.e., Initial design data is entered first, when drilling is complete more data is added to a linked table, when drilling is surveyed yet more data is added to the second table.
What I want to be able to do is to query for a particular set of existing design data, display this on a form and on the same line enable data entry to other fields from other tables which are linked to the existing design data.

Hello Tech gurus,
I have a database with existing data, that is not normalized, :eek: and all the data is in one field... This what I am dealing with:
As you notice the first row of data in field1 C10A CHOLEST&TRIGLY has 3 spaces to the right the next row ALTORVASTIN has five spaces to the right, the next line LIPITOR has 7 spaces to the right, and so forth, hopefully you get at what I am trying to do, I just looked at the data and it is not showing up in view of the leading spaces, but I am trying to move the data based ONLY on the position of leading spaces, example all data that has 3 leading spaces would go into its own separate column, and all data that has 7 leading spaces would go into a separate column, I have tried to use the left, mid, len functions but I cannot figure out how to move the text and keep it whole only by data position of spaces.

Using access 2010; anyway to create an er diagram from an existing database? I have inherited a fairly large database and need to make changes to some field properties and need to find out where these fields are located. What I have is a database that I have done some tweaking on and in the meantime the original db has been in use which has added around 200 or so more records in the table.
What I would like to do is to just update the db that I have been working on with the older db table(the one who has the additional 200 records).
EX. DB A(Old DB, Newer Table) DB B(New DB, Older Table)
I want to put DB A table into DB B
Is this a simple fix? Or do I need to write some sort of query to update the records in the old table? I've tried to export the excel file and then import but it puts it in unrelated objects and then my switchboard or nothing works.

- ProductIDFK (combined with FacilityIDFK to make a PK)
- FacilityIDFK
As I'm writing this out, I am realizing that tlbProductFacilityMM.producttoFacilityID is probably not necessary, but that I don't expect that to have much significance to the issue. So I've setup a query between the two tables:

And used it to create my subform which is simply a drop down box for tblProductFacilityMM.FacilityIDFK. My main form is one that has already been in use for 6 months or so, it is based off the tblproductinfo table and needs to have the option to select multiple Facilities for each ProductID. I inserted the subform, but when I try to select a facility I get an error that reads:
