Tables :: Continually Updating Field And Display Value As Decimal
Oct 9, 2014
I want a field that I will enter the current work experience of an employee years and months and i would like it to update as time passes. I am willing to accept it displayed as a decimal, i.e 4 years 7 months would be 4.7, I would just need to have it calculate on base 12 but I don't know how?

If you specify Number as data type and Decimal as field size for a field in an Access table, will it actually store numbers to the right of the decimal point? I have never been able to get this to work or find these value if they are there and have alwayshad to use field size single or double or data type currency.

I have a problem when storing a calculated field with two decimal points. If I set the field to double, fixed, 2 decimal points. For the field it will show the calculations as:
21.364 as 21.36
21.563 as 21.56
21.272 as 21.27
Which is how I want it to be, however when I run a summary of the field rather than showing 64.19 it calculates as 64.20, I know that this is the correct figure but is there any way I can get it to show me the 64.19?

I have 2 tables, "Counselors" and "Appeals". There are several names in the Counselor table but it is not a fixed number of names (rows) usually around 7. There is also some variable number of records in the Appeals table, could be 0, could be 50, depending on the day.
I need to, in a round robin fashion, assign the counselor names one by one to the records in the Appeals table. How to loop through the 2 tables and update the name field in the Appeals table with the name in the Counselor table.

My father tables contains all the relevant fields with info of my products (which are listed in records/rows). My sister table contains less fields but are all present in the father table. The info is imported from excel daily into the sister table - all the fields here change regularly except for the unique ID which is present in both tables. Because the sister tables' information for the records/rows changes, it is difficult to update the selected fields of the father table.
I want to update selected fields within my father table based on the information I upload from the excel sheet (which becomes the sister table when uploaded)

So I currently have a table that tracks medication activity for patients called tblMedRanges. The Fields are the ID, StartMedication, EndMedication, Med ID/Medication Name.
In the End of Medication, some patients are not currently active so they have a set date/time field property. What I have for right now is the default value is set to
Code:
=date()
So that when staff adds a new medication it is set to the current date. These patients are supposed to be active, but it doesn't update the default value. I want it to continue to update to the current date every time the database is open.
I have three options that I know of(or think I know of) to update but can't commit to one in particular :
1)I want these individual records in the field to update the current time for today and was considering using some kind of data macro code using before update.
2)The other idea I had was splitting up the field into an EndOfMedication field that would display a value only if their inactive, and an Active field (text, value list active/inactive choices) that would be used in a query to generate the current date as med field. This would take some crafty query work with comparisons later on to generate list of drugs that they were on for each visit.
3) set to text field and convert the field to date field for comparison in queries.

I have a table in my DB called, devices. This contains all the information about various devices we have deployed in the field.
These devices are also contained in 2 other separate MySQL DB's.
What I need to do is add 2 additional field to my access table for the DeviceRecno and DeviceID of the same device from the MySQL DB's.
Adding the field is easy, but I cant think of a way to enter the recno and ID from the other DB's without typing them in manually for each one.
The common between them all is the serial number of the device, and I can get a list of serial numbers, recno's and ID in an excel sheet.
like a vlookup in excel to easily populate all the existing records with the recno and id's from the other db's?
When I created the access system there was no intention to link it to the other DB's for any reason, but that has now changed due to a lot of reasons.

but if someone does not know the format , things can be out of position.how do I code the field such that the format (xx-xxx-x-x-x) is displayed in the input field awaiting the actual keying of the data?

I have made a program in Access with linked tables from oracle (ODBC).
In access when I'm going to use that tables or when I see the records on the table all the numbers with decimals shows without separators (,).
99,99 looks like 9999.
This is a big problem because I'm working with prices.
I tried to change the NSL_Language in Regedit to:
AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8ISO8859P1
from:
SPANISH_SPAIN.WE8MSWIN1252
AND it works ONLY in my computer, when I try to fix it and change the language doesn't work, and i don't know why.
PD: In addition, in the other PC's, some characters seems wrong like "" that looks like a square.

Is it possible for a report's displayed decimal places to be conditional.
I have field that has a lab test's name a field that displays the result of the test.
For some tests I only want 2 decimal places, for others I want 4. Is this possible within the same field?

Successful in loading an Access database with data from the PLC's memory. Unfortunately, I'm only able to transfer Integer values. In the database I'd like to show one of the fields as a real number by formatting the Integer value to add a decimal place. Example: 2505 to 250.5

I have a calculated field in a query that generates a result that i need to display in forms/reports with the $ sign but zero decimal places (ie; rounded to the nearest $ value, $5).
If i use the sql format currency function (format (n, "currency",0) it always displays the $ sign but with two decimal places...
In the form/report text box property i set the format to currency, with the decimal places set to 0, but it still displays two decimal places (this property setting seems to make no difference other than displaying the $ sign). Is there something i am missing regarding the way access formatting works?

I have a field for Item Price.
It would be a currency field, but I want it to be able to work with up to 6 decimal places. currency only seems to handle 4.
So, in the table, i changed it to a Single.
In the form, I left the control on Currency.
If I type in $1.43, instead of storing $1.43000000 it stores $1.43003243953
Why is it adding all these bogus sub decimal numbers? Any clue?
Thank you,
Evan

I have a single form which becomes either readonly or editable or addnew using a circular toggle switch. The toggle switch is activated by a command button and the caption of the command button is used as the display of the mode.
The SetAddModeBt is a separate command button that initiates the add mode. The problem is that various form or field properties when defined on the fly are not stored and they get lost when you open the form again. Look at the code below:
Code:
Sub tglEditBt_Click()
'-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
' Circular toggle button to change display mode of the form
' ReadOnly - Edit - Add
'-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
' On Error GoTo NotFound
Dim ForName As String
Dim strSQL As String
Dim FMode As String
[Code] ....
Here the first two cases fail when executing the last statement saying it is not supported.

I am working on a database which has two tables used as part of a registration and login process.
I would like a couple of fields from table one to automatically update in table two, once the fields in table one are populated without using an 'on click' event.
The reason I would prefer not to use an onclick is because the completion of the form used to generate the users table does not require any buttons for the data to save.

I have a pivotchart which I cause to take a huge list of people's test percentiles and calculate the average for each year. I then display the average above each bar. The problem is that there are too many numbers after the decimal place for each figure. I went into the properties and changed the number format to "fixed" but it doesn't give me the option to change the number of decimal places that are used (it does every where else in MS Office!). It seems that it just uses the regional settings for the computer. But the problem I have in changing that is that I have other pivotcharts in the same report that does something similar but needs a different number of decimal places. Is there any way around this without having to create another query to calculate the average and then having the pivotchart display the info from the new query (this is a huge database that I put together with many charts and I don't want to have to redo the way that it works just because of this decimal place issue)?

Using Access 2010. Fairly new to automation and macros.I have two tables (tblProductReceived and tblBins) and a form (frmProductReceived).A field in tblBins corresponds to a location the bin is at (named BinLocationID) and the tblProductReceived table tracks product that a specific bin has received.
What I need is for the tblProductReceived field PRLocationID ([tblProductReceived].[PRLocationID]) to be automatically populated with where the bin is at ([tblBins].[BinLocationID]) when selecting a specific bin in the form (frmProductReceived).
