Tables :: Enter Item In One Field And Autopopulate It Into Another Field

I have a relationship from one table to another. If one item is entered into one field, I would like it to auto-populate it into another field. But there are several more fields I would like to be autopopulated.
EX
Table_1
item no, hull no, description
Table_2
item no, hull no, description..
I want to enter data into table 1 and have it auto populate into table 2. How is this to be done

I am in the process of revamping an old database. I have a main table that currently has two fields "Name" and "Job" but will have more. I have another table with the same fields. I want to use as a lookup to populate the main table with a user form from the second table. I can populate the "Name" field using a combo box, but my problem is how to autopopulate the "Job" field. E.g. If the user selects Mr Smith from the "Name" drop down list, the corresponding "Job" populates the second field.

I know the way to SELECTDISTECT on a combobox referring to a table so the value will autopopulate in the combobox. But is that doable in a subform?
I have a table with 3 columns. First Name, Last Name, Relationship.
I want to let the user adding data directly to the subform, but when typing RICHARD in the first record of First Name, then on the second record, when they type R, it will suggest RICHARD, a kinda auto fill if desire.

Have form as follows.
Can # (Lookup/dropdown)
Movement Date (date/time)
Current Location (lookup/Dropdown)
Current Address (lookup/Dropdown)
Prior Location
Prior Address
When I drop the can # down in the form, I want the Prior Location and Address to auto Populate with the last known current Location and address of that can.
Any ideas on the best way to do that?? I assume there is code and a query, but I am an absolute database illiterate so exact directions would be nice.
To explain again, whenever I put a new record in, as soon as I select the Can# from the drop down tab, I want the prior location and address to be populated with the last known current address for that Can#. And if I change the can # I want the prior location and address to change with it.
HELP PLEASE.

My goal is to create a form that allows me easily edit what State each City is assigned to, and edit what Country each State is assigned to. I have 3 tables:
tbCities
CityID (Primary Key)
StateID (Foreign Key from tbStates)
City
tbStates
StateID (Primary Key)
CountryID (Foreign Key from tbCountries)
State
tbCountries
CountryID (Primary Key)
Country
For right now, I want to focus on just States and Cities... so I also have this query:
quCity_to_State
Field: City
Table: tbCities
Field: State
Table: tbStates
The join type for the relationship between tbCities and tbStates is: Include ALL records from 'tbCities' and only those records from 'tbStates' where the joined fields are equal. That way I can see all the cities and the state they are assigned to.
However, when I view the query in datasheet view and try to type anything into the State field of this query, I keep getting this error: "Cannot enter value into blank field on 'one' side of outer join". I figured the source of the form should be this query instead of the tables directly, but if I can't input data into the query then I wont be able to input data into the form.
What am I doing wrong?

I am using MS Access 2007.
I have created a multi-valued field "Product Category" that lookups data items from a linked table. So, the Data Type for the multi-valued field "Product Category" is Number.
Now I want to change the Data Type of "Product Category" from Number to Text, and make a value list that I can type values in and can provide the same data items as the linked table.
How to change item source for the multi-valued field from a linked table to a list that I can type in values?
Is there a feature provided by MS Access 2007 can enable such a conversion?

I would like to have a field autopopulate (date field) when a checkbox is selected 'true'
Fields are:
FolderBCCheck-In (checkbox field)
Check-InDate (date field)
I need the check-inDate field to populate Date() when the FolderBCCheck-In field is checked.
I assume it is VBA code to the AfterUpdate (Event procedure). Just having trouble getting the right code.

Hello everyone. How do I go about automatically inserting a date from one table into another table. This are my tables:

Every time an employee’s salary or benefits changes we fill-out a PAF (paper format) on it we write all the changes. In my PAF db form I’m thinking adding a command button to open my Benefits Form. Once my Benefits form is open I don’t want to renter the date that was entered in the PAF form I wanted to automatically insert that same date. Hopefully I made myself clear.

I have a field that contains some kinds of the student status, such as "Current", "Alumni" and "Expire". The table has already got a lot of records. How can I make a new item available to the field, for example, "Other", without entering a new status?
Like, "Student A" is "Current" but he is now "Other" status. When the user see his record, he/she needs to change the student status from "Current" to "Other". I don't want the user to enter "Other" manually. I want it to be available from a comb box at the first place. How can I add a new item into a field without entering a new student record?

hi, i have a memo field, and on my form the control for that field is called
'pickup'
what i want on my form is a tick box button..
when the user clicks that button..
the words (O/S) appears inside the pickup control..
eg.
If I enter an address in the pickup field.. like so...
LHR - Terminal 1
then when the user clicks the box.. i would need the field to update as
LHR - Terminal 1 (O/S)
so really it would have to add a space and then the (O/S)
how can i do this?

I'm trying to get my "IncidentDate" field to autopopulate two other date fields to a few days from the "IncidentDate". The other two date fields are "ContainDueDate" and "RootDueDate". I'm trying to accomplish this on my "Test CAP Form"
I tried using the following in the BeforeUpdate of "ContainDueDate" and received a complier error: expected =
Code : DateAdd(d,2,[IncidentDate])
so I removed the parenthesis and nothing happened
Code : DateAdd d,2,[IncidentDate]
I even tried redoing it in the AfterUpdate of "IncidentDate" and nothing happened either
Code : DateAdd d,2,[ContainDueDate]
I'm not sure if I'm even using the right function to get what I want.

the title explains this..
im not even sure if this is possible.. but if it is it will be just what i need.
basically the job1 form has a search feature added to it..
as users type the passenger name in the form.. a listbox below updates if a match is found..
if you can imagine the situation..
my user will be entering jobs into this form.. they will not know whether or not a passenger has used us before.. the only way they will know is if they see in the listbox the same name.. and pickup/destination/phone no. details as the job they are about to enter
i wondered if it was possible for the user to click on the customer in the listbox.. and drag and drop it into the passenger name textbox..
can this be done.. the attatchment is very simple.. one form.. job1.
if someone can explain to me how to do it.. or perhaps alter the db i have attached i will be most grateful

I need to run a condition that compares 2 field quantities together based on the same item. If they both equal the same then i want it to run a code and change a property for that record.
I will have a OrderQty and a Total receivedQty when these 2 equal each other then it updates the items Status to Received. What is the best way to accomplish this? in vba or queries/sql?

I understand how to create relationships.However, when I create a field with a drop down selection (in this example Phone Number and Email) once that list item is selected I would like the column to the right to populate that information.So when Phone # is selected, the field to the right will populate a number for this individual.

Hi all
Can a SQL query be written so that when the user runs the query, a prompt asks the user to enter the field they wish to see?
i.e. a query is written to return certain predefined fields, plus a field that is not defined. When the query runs an error comes up to enter the field it should search for.
It would be handy for the start of each month, when a new field (month's data) is required. It will avoid updating the query each month.

Hello, I want to add a checkbox in my form which will update or enter a value to a field. To explain more better the form is access of application so the question will be does the user have Network Account. if the check box is checked then it should add a value to its own field or another field in the same table Network Account. If its not checked then the field should be blank. The way i am doing is i created a check box field and then there is seperate field hiden or in front of checkbox. The control source i put is iif([checkbox1]=-1,"Network",ISnull) this way i get the value in form field but its not linked anyway to table field.
Is there any easy way to populate a field i will be having couple of checkbox like this.

I would like to append a text item to each value in a calculated field. consider the field name is "Division" and I want to append the word "Division" to the values put out by the field "Division"
My attempt was: Division & " " & "Division". This produced an error in the report.

I use Access as my grading program at school. Right now, if I want to excuse a student for an assignment, I delete that record.
What I would like to do is put an "X" or some other string into a field that is numeric and Access would ignore that score when computing the average.
A longshot, but I thought I would ask.

Hi all, firstly please forgive me if i'm a little slow, i haven't done any access work for a year or so and i'm a bit rusty :o
Basically i have a customer database which holds customer details and orders. It's been created and working fine for a couple of years, but i recently found something that i'm having trouble with. tblCustomers holds most of the data and links to other tables such as tblCustomerPostCode/tblCustomerEmail with the primay key CustomerNumber. I put certain data such as these in other tables because i was taught to not include fields with lots of blanks and these wouldn't necessarily always have data. The relationships table is attached - relationships.jpg
I also have a main table for customer orders - tblCustomerPurchases which holds data such as date of purchase and purchase cost. This has a primary key field called PurchaseNumber, and links to tblCustomers with a CustomerNumber field. This meant i could have many purchases for one customer, etc.
Everything has worked great as i said and i have many forms, reports etc with no problems, and the problem i have hasn't shown itself until now.
If i have a query with tblCustomers and all the relevant other tables linked to it, all fields work perfectly and i can add, edit etc whatever data i need to. See qselcustdetails.jpg attached.
The moment i add the tblCustomerPurchases or anything that uses it to the query however, i can no longer add data to some of the fields such as tblCustomerPostcode, tblCustomerArea, tblCustomerEmail etc. If there is data in the field already then i can change it, but not add new data. See qselcustdet&purchase.jpg attached.
I believe it must be to do with the fact that tblCustomerPurchases uses the CustomerNumber field as well? And it then doesn't allow tables such as tblCustomerPostcode to create new data? But i can't understand why. Like i said i'm a little rusty and i can't figure it out at the mo :confused::rolleyes:
Also, can anyone tell me any suggestions for the easiest way of fixing it? The database already has 5000 customers and plenty of forms, reports etc.

I am trying to populate a textbox from a field in a table based on clicking on a item in a listbox. User clicks a name from the Client table in the client field, and the date that is stored in the orderDate in the same row. I want the text11 textbox to show that date.

Hi All,
I have a database with two memo fields. Both have exactly the same properties in table design view.
One field is called 'notes' and when I want a new line I just have to hit ENTER. Result is as wanted.
The other field is called 'responses' and when I hit ENTER, the cursor jumps to the next field (as if these were a text rather than a memo field). it does not start a fresh line. However, this field has not length restriction; I can copy and paste any number of lines into it. But I must not hit ENTER, and I cannot produce a line break.
As I said above, both fields appear to have exactly the same properties in Design View. Why then do they behave differently?
What's wrong? What have I overlooked?

I have a date/time field on a form.
I have a calculation that adds number of days to Date() and enters the answer in the field. Example:Date()+30.
If the answer comes on a week end, can I get the date entered to be the next occuring week day?

At work I can enter +15 in a date field and it automatically sets the date 15 days after todays date. Our companies computer is operating on a ERP system. I would like to do that in an Access database I'm designing for a friend. Any hints.

Right now on a form I have code that runs when the used DoubleClick on that field. Users want to have the code run when the EnterKey is pressed as well but when putting the code in the onEnter command line it would run the code when you tab thru the field.
