Tables :: Hyperlink To A Network Share
Jan 24, 2015
In my 2002 Employee table, I have a field which is a hyperlink to photos: C:photosemployee1.bmp (This is what I have entered into the Field as the Hyperlink)...However, from other PCs, I connect to this database and photo folder as a different drive letter, say Z, so when I am on the other networked PCs, and I click on the Hyperlink field, the data will not come up?

I am having trouble relinking tables in my Front End database to my Back End database. My BE DB is on a network share and when I try using the link table manager to navigate to the correct folder I get an error message upon entering the network share folder that says:
The Microsoft Access database engine cannot open or write to the file "etworkfolder" It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view and write its data.
I have permission to the folder and have ensured that this folder is a trusted location path.

Hi,
Newbie stuff I'm afraid;
is it possible for the following to be achieved in Access;
When a user inputs data into a Form in order to add data to
an underlying table, can this same data populate another table
that has the same field? If so, how is it done?
Thank You

I have to redesign the database as things has changed. I've already built a table holding records of Clients along with their address information and some attributes that relates to Clients.Now, I need to create a table for our Business contacts. This will also need to store address info and then some attributes relating to businesses. The problem is I'm not sure if I want to take address out of Client table and have Client and Business table link to Address table to follow the rule of not having any repeating data or simply allow Business table to store address.What would be the best thing to do here?Thanks.

Hi
I have a couple of acces databases running on a peer to peer network (database A and B, which are housed on PC1). The database B has a link to a Customer table in database A. This was running fine until another user on the peer to peer network wanted to use database B on their pc (PC2). I had to change the the file location of the linked table to show it's location on the network so PC2 could open it. Unfortunatley this greatly slowed the operation of the database B on both machines.
If anyone has made it this far - Is there any way round this?
Regards
David

I have a problem trying to improve performance on a database with linked tables across a network. I found in MS Access Help that you can do the following (see bullet below), but I have no idea how to use the OpenRecordset method. Can anyone give me an idea how to code this, or update the linked table with the information given below.
*You can greatly enhance performance when opening the main database and opening tables and forms by forcing the linked database to remain open. To do this, create an empty table in the linked database, and link the table in the main database. Then use the OpenRecordset method to open the linked table. This prevents the Microsoft Jet database engine from repeatedly opening and closing the linked database and creating and deleting the associated .ldb file.
I'd appreciate your help.
Thanks in advance,
JYMALY

I have a massive database...100,000 records (well, it seems massive to me right now!).
A part of each record is a hyperlink to a PDF document on the server. I didn't map a drive letter for the path, as everything I've researched has said to not use drive letters but the actual server name and the path.
I did that. Unfortunately, they had an issue with the server a couple of weeks ago...and in mapping it again, they added another layer of folders on the way to the location of these PDFs.
Now I have to go in and edit each individual hyperlink to reflect the new path.
1. Is there a faster way to do this? They want their first report half an hour ago.
2. They have a whole new set of these PDFs to be attached to the records that don't have them yet. Is there a faster way to do it than to have to open each record and put in the path to the document?

I've been tasked with coming up with a table structure that will allow me to make a form that lists the available static ip's in my various network range blocks (we have multiple off-site locations and use different ip ranges at each site).
I have the vision in my head of the form, you would select the block range from a drop down list, then see all the available addresses in that range. From there you could assign mark one as used and it is no longer listed on the form (I'm thinking a simple yes/no checkbox). What my co-workers would love to see is if there were entering a new PC assignment and put one of those available IP addresses into that forms record (different table too) then the ip would get deleted from the available pool as well.

i have thousands of data records with hyperlinks that are correct. Each data record shows the actual link (google.com, foxnews.com, espn.com, etc.). However, i want to change all of the records to just say "link" instead of saying espn.com, etc. How can i do this automatically without having to manually right click, edit, and changing the text to display?

I'm trying to make hyperlinks to specific pages of a workbook to excel. If I put the hyperlink of the form as follows then works properly:
C: Users Desktop test.xlsx # Sheet2!A1 -> leads me to Sheet2 document "test".
The big problem comes when the leaves have spaces in its name, that is, if the sheet is called Sheet 2:
C: Users Desktop est.xlsx # Sheet 2!A1 -> does not work ...
C: Users Desktop test.xlsx # 'Sheet 2'!A1 -> does not work ....
The solution to rename the sheets is not possible ...how to solve this problem?

I am creating a task tracker where the user will enter a task which is working. If he is complete the task at that moment he will submit the task and everything is done for that task. However, if there is some issue or if the user need any information, then the user will enter a comment and will hit hold. My queryis once the user hits hold button, the table "Main" will capture the hold date and time. I need a second table, may be by name "Inbox" which will only show records kept on hold.
Secondly there should be hyperlink for "ID" of Hold records in table "Inbox" and when the user click on the the "ID" to resume the task, it should take the user to "Main" form and display that particular record (record which the user had clicked). Also, the date and time should be recorded when the user click on the hyperlink in Resume_Date and Resume_Time fields for that record.

Is there a way to insert a hyperlink in a field title on a table? For example, I have a field that is a check box for whether the person has taken a class. What I would like to do is insert a link in the field title for that class so I can click on it and bring up the supporting documentation in a PDF file for that class.

I'm using access 2007. I have a table with 2 fields:
phtolink - hyperlink
phtopath - text
I am loading the table with existing data from a spreadsheet. The hyperlink field imported correctly into phtolink.
Now I need to convert the hyperlink field to a text field that displays the path to the photo referenced by the hyperlink.
I updated the text field with the hyperlink field but it didn't display the hidden part of the hyperlink.
How do I convert a hyperlink to display the path in a text field?

I Have a table with 15000 entries. This table lists components we use. This table is used to generate queries/forms. I have been asked to add a hyperlink to this table to link to a drawing of the component. All the drawings are in PDF and in the same folder. I am looking for a way to automatically update the hyperlink fields all at once. The Hyperlink will be in the format of servershareddrawings12345.pdfwhere 12345 is the component name from the table.
But there are a few small problems with the component names.
1. If the component begins with a B- . The drawing name will be all the characters except when there is a second dash in the component. So if the component is B-12345-678 the drawing name will only be B-12345.
2. If The component begins with AB, The drawing will be the first 5 characters regardless of what follows, e.g. AB123.
3. Finally for all other components the full component name will be the drawing name.
Putting the naming to one side, how to go about auto generating the hyperlink. I have posted this in the table section, but maybe this should be in another section like queries or VBA.

Could someone please point me in the direction of some websites where people share their databases?
I have searched on the web and have not seen any other websites where there are just databases for download.
I am looking specifically for a Incident/Problem/Change mgmt database that conforms to ITIL methodologies.
or a Project managment database to track issues, actions and minute meetings.
It would really be very helpfull!!
Thx

Hi,
Just had to share this...
Been reading Alison Balter's Mastering Access 2000 Development - fantastic book and highly recommended.
She shares a trick on how to give users access to fields within tables without giving them access to other confidential fields within tables.
User is not granted rights to a table.
A query is created by someone with access rights to the table.
The query uses the non confidential fields. At the very end of the query, in SQL, write:
WITH OWNERACCESS OPTION;
This tells Access that whoever runs the query does so with the Query owners access rights!
Fantastic!
If you want more detail, buy the book!

I got my name back!

I have this database that's been on a server for awhile. I thought I could ditch the server because there are only two computers networked here at the office.
I have the database shared from one computer, but when I try to access it from the other computer, it's giving me a path name error. It seems that the database is linked to and uses several other databases, so, when I try to open the main one, it's trying to look for the other databases on the wrong computer.
Anyone know how I can fix this?

Hello fellow developers.
I need a query to help me track share of cost for clients. Anyone have any ideas? This is what I am working with. sorry it didn't paste very well. My problem is that my query keeps subtracking the share of cost and I want it to stop subtracking the share of cost once the share of cost has been met. HOpe that makes sense. Thanks in advance for your help in this matter. Angelflower.

I want to write an SQL query that shares the quantities of a product among storehouses. I tried to write but it was to difficult than i thought, so i ask your help. I attach the database for your convinience. :)
