Tables :: Linked Table - Adding Entries To Each Row Of Data
Jul 2, 2014
I have a table that is linked to a survey and pulls data from the limesurvey backend.
The user would like to add a local field, so they can add entries to each row of data.
Is that possible ?

I have quite an extensive form linked to a table. When I add new columns to the table I seem to have a problem getting the form to read the data.I have just added a numerical column to the table and added a text box on the form that is bound to it. When I try to pull up the value using VBA it is blank, even though an entry is visible on the form. I have set the text box to general number and the entry shows in the actual table. When typing in the entry into VBA it capitalises where required so it must be registering the table entry. However the value it pulls remains blank.

I have a table in MS Access 2010 that is a link to an external data file in .csv format. I assumed that it was not possible to append data to a linked table until recently. I appended 3 records to the linked table and discovered that the 3 records were appended to the table and the external data file it was linked to.
What am I missing ?

I have a table in my DB called, devices. This contains all the information about various devices we have deployed in the field.
These devices are also contained in 2 other separate MySQL DB's.
What I need to do is add 2 additional field to my access table for the DeviceRecno and DeviceID of the same device from the MySQL DB's.
Adding the field is easy, but I cant think of a way to enter the recno and ID from the other DB's without typing them in manually for each one.
The common between them all is the serial number of the device, and I can get a list of serial numbers, recno's and ID in an excel sheet.
like a vlookup in excel to easily populate all the existing records with the recno and id's from the other db's?
When I created the access system there was no intention to link it to the other DB's for any reason, but that has now changed due to a lot of reasons.

Hi folks,
I am really struggling w/ the following & would greatly appreciate advice!
I want to add several Fields to a Linked Table in Access. The Access wouldn't let me do it because it is a Linked Table. What should I do?
There is also a nicely designed Form that goes w/ that Linked Table. So I figured that once I add the Fields in the Table then I can add them to the Form too. - But can't even add the fields yet....
HUGE THANKS in advance!

Greetings all.
I'm posting this question here as it pertains to my form but it could go in tables section as well.
I developed a prototype app in Access and have just finished upscaling it
to Sybase 12.5. When I open up the associated form to add records, I am unable to do so. The built in button that allows you to do so is greyed out.
When I go into the table directly, again, no ability to add recs.
I've never come across this so if anyone has any experience with this, any help would be most welcome.
TIA,
Tim

Can someone tell me how to go about adding security to a field in a linked table so that only certain people can access and modify the information? I am using Access 2002. I also wonder if someone can tell me how to modify a field in a linked table? I have tried altering and saving the changes, but it won't save them because it's a linked table. Thank you in advance to anybody who can help me out here!

I have several tables that are linked that I need to be able to add to. This is an example of the structure:
Patient Info
ID
FK_Ward - ID of Ward table
FK_Room - ID of Room table
FK_Cond - ID of Condition table
Ward
ID
WardID
Room
ID
RoomNumber
Condition
ID
Description
Unfortunately, its not the exact one as I can't post that here! What I am trying to do is to add a new patient record using information from the other tables as guides - e.g. the user selects the name of the Ward but the ID in the Ward table is entered, the User selects the number of the room but again the ID in the Room table is entered, and for the Condition same thing. So I would like to have dropdowns (or ComboBoxes) for each of these and based on the user's selections add a new record to PatientInfo using the ID values as links.

I have split database (B/E is in the SharePoint library, F/E has users on a local PCs). Sometimes, when I update/add data (does not matter if it is via form or directly in the table) it looks OK, but when I re-open the database, the data are gone.
Problem is that I cannot catch the moment when data were not saved (sometimes data are saved, sometimes not). I can point out this: if I re-enter the missing data, primary key continues subsequently, it looks like the data have never been entered. I tried to use script
Code:
If Me.Dirty Then Me.Dirty = False
on "On Close" form event, does not work.
B/E is linked by VBA code and it looks OK (no error, Link Manager shows correct path). I suspect interrupted connetion to the SharePoint but I don't know how to check it. I implemented VBA script co keep open connection to the SP but the issue persists.

I'm new to MS Access, indeed database design as a whole.
I have been tasked with creating an issues logging database and am having some issues...
I have a table/form that has all the fields I want, including a unique ID, called "Issues". I want to be able to log multiple entries in another table called "emails". The trouble is I am not having much luck. I can create an entry in the issues Form which then shows in the emails but I can't then add another email under the same ID in the "Issues" table.

I have 3 tables;
tblEmployees - Stores employee data
tblProcess - Stores process data
tblTraining - Stores data on which employees have trained on which process
tblEmployees has a 1 to many relationship to tblTraining through empID
tblProcess has a 1 to many relationship to tblTraining through pcsID
When a new Process is added, a query auto populates tblTraining with 1 record for each employee in tblEmployees. Equally when a new Employee is added, a query auto populates tblTraining with 1 record for each Process in tblProcess.
In theory this should ensure that every employee has a training record for every process (and vice versa). However, as many of us know, never assume the user wont find a way to mess things up!
So i want to have a query that can show me Employee and Process without a training record. I have been manipulating a SELECT (SELECT) query to pull this together, but i just keep coming up blank.
I have attached a copy of the relevant tables and query. I have deliberately deleted a training record for empID 6 on pcsID 1 AND empID102 on pcsID 2 (qryCheckTrainingRecordsBalance will show the processes these 2 DO have a training record for).

I have a table in access which is updated weekly; I need to create two tables from this updated table.
1st table will consist of all the new entries for the current week
2nd table will consist of all the entries from the previous week - an amalgamation of all the entries which are not from the "current week" (table) For example; the table below shows the two entries from last week.
ID
Name
1
Adam
2
Ben
This week I have three new entries New entries
ID
Name
3
Charles
4
Richard
So when I run the same query next week I will get something like this.
Old Entries
ID
Name
1
Adam
2
Ben
3
Charles
4
Richard
[code]....
How do I get a query /queries which divides up the weeks new entries and also all the old entries.

I'm trying to perform a massive data dump. I have about 1,000 records that need to be added into my database. This is coming off an Excel spreadsheet.
I don't know if this is possible:
I have a table, tblTorders, which is linked to the table, tblItems.
When I open the tblTorders, I can click on the plus sign to expand and see the related data in tblItems.
How can I import data to populate the fields in both of these tables? I can't use the import function because you can only select to import it into one table.
Do I do it through a query.... I'm not sure where to go on this one.
Thanks so much

I have a login form. 2 spots for users to input and ID and their name. I want to do error checking to see the user inputs a wrong name or wrong id with their corresponding name or ID. For example, I don't want User A to be able to login with User B's name. If User A inputs their ID and inputs User B's name, I want to show an error message stating the their is a mismatch of credentials. Here is my code
Private Sub Command12_Click()
Dim rs As DAO.Recordset
Dim txtID As Variant
txtID = Forms![LoginForm2]![txtEmployeeID]
txtName = Forms![LoginForm2]![Text13]
Set rs = CurrentDb.OpenRecordset("SELECT * FROM CoachTable WHERE EmployeeID = '" & txtID & "'", dbOpenDynaset)
[Code] .....

I have a table for a multiple parents linked to a child table. I need to figure out a way to only allow 1 parent to be coded as primary, 1 as secondary, and then the rest as other... I thought about making Primary/Secondary/Other a primary key. But then I can only have 1 other. I would have to make a finite number of parents that could be entered and I want an infinite number.... My end goal is to have a report that only has a primary and second parent on it, but the rest of the parents still exist in the table...
*Child_ID
Parent_First_Name
*Primary/Secondary/Other

I have what is probably a stupid question but I've been struggling with this one for a while. I have an ordering database which has an Orders table (containing Order ID, Date, Supplier etc) and an Order Line table within which I have a combo box for Product name, supplier, price, VAT rate, Line price etc. At the moment, I have the order line table as a subform within the Order form (run from the Orders table). The problem I'm having is the subtotal and total fields. At the moment these are in the Order Line table as I cannot figure out how to get these in the Orders table. In summary, can I make a calculated field in one table that calculates values from another table (linked by Order ID)?

Hi,
I have 2 linked tables, I would like to join these tables in access, however the first table's field is a memo and the second table is a number. I have tried to cint() the field in a query but I get an error message "Explicit conversion from datatype text to smallint is not allowed"
Any ideas how to get around this problem?
Thanks

I'm fairly new to access and have been tasked with fixing a database that to my knowledge is built incorrectly but due to budget constraints and the time it would take to build a new one, we have to stick with this one. Here's my problem, in the database is a form that we use to create new entries in a table but when I try to create a new entry through the form, it creates multiple entries in the table with the rest of the data split between all the new table entries. Is this something that is caused by us moving over to the most current version of Access? Is there a way to fix this problem given the software we are using? At one point I had recreated this table because we had been having issues with other aspects of the database (security deposits were not being updated when entered through this form).

I have a database consisting of three linked tables, with ID as unique identifier (primary key).
I would have expected the data type for my unique identifier, especially in the main table, to be Autonumber. However, I discovered with some surprise that the primary key (ID) in
Table 1 (Main table) is data type: number, field size: double
whereas in table 2 and table 3 the ID is data type: autonumber (field size: long integer)
It must have happend "SOMEHOW" when I divided the original single table.
Is this as it should be? Or could it lead to trouble later on?
If not as should be, is there anything I can do right now to rectify the situation with risking upsetting the relationships and all?
What precautions should I take, apart from taking a backup?
Thanks for your help.

I have an MS Access accdb with linked SQL Server 2012 ODBC tables. I am working on a procedure to copy data from local tables to these linked tables (identical schema). I did a simple
Code:
DoCmd.RunSQL "INSERT INTO linkedTable SELECT * FROM localTable"
This works, but is very slow. Way too slow. (INSERT copies the data one record at a time).
I would like to copy the data in a bulk operation, or operations that I can execute programmatically.

Dear Sir/Madam,
I am having the problem of importing a database from Excel/Msaccess 2000 to a Msaccess 2000 database from which the data was originally exported. The Database consists of two tables connected in a querry and the two tables has a unique primary key thru which the two tables are linked using a querry. While importing only two tables are listed in the importing wizard and not the querry.
So how to import the data to the two tables connected by a querry using a primary unique key.
help me the procedure.

thanks in advance

I'm a bit new to Access but have managed to build a very simple database.
I have a main table which I need to add 4 columns onto the end of, the data for which comes from 4 tables linked to it. Below is how they are linked.
Main table------> Table 1
Main table------> Table 2
Main table------> Table 3
Main table------> Table 4
All 4 relationships have a join type of 2 (Include ALL records from 'Main table' and only those records from 'Table1/2/3/4' where the joined fields are equal)
However, 3 of them pull back the correct data when I refresh the Main table, but the 4th one doesn't - which appears to be to be set up in the exact same way. It does bring back data, but it's the wrong data or in the wrong order.
For example, if the related field in the Main table is "Sarah" - It needs to bring back "Programme", but some Sarah's pull through Programme, some are blank and some are another option altogether. Table 4 has no duplicates or typos etc and I've tried deleting it, loading it in again and creating a new relationship but nothing seems to work.
