Tables :: Linking To Field In Another Table?
Jul 25, 2014Is it possible to create a table and create a field that links to field in another table?

View RepliesI'm pretty good with setting up a very simple database such as inventory, profiles, etc.. However I'm creating a database to keep track of a football (soccer) team's players and match statistics.What I have so farsample attached)
Tables:
* Players - PlayerID, Fname, Lname, position, goals, assists, etc (all details regarding a player)
* Position - Positons (Table containing positions eg: defender. Data is selected in player's form as a combo-box)
* Competition - Competition types (Cup, League, Friendly. Data is selected in Match's form as a combo-box
* Venue - similar to Competition table
* Opponent - Similar to above two tables
* Match - MatchID, Competition, Venue, etc (form corresponding to table attached)
Forms:
* Player form
* Match form
Now as shown in the sample, I choose players using the combo-box. Then whatever stats they had during the match are entered on the fields provided. How to link the player (selected using combo box) to the stat fields (goals, assist, YC, etc).
Currently trying to build a database for customer management and order placement/tracking. Want to set a couple of rules so that if I for instance click yes of billing and shipping address the same that the database will automatically fill the shipping address with the data I inputted for the billing address in the same table.
The other issue I can see I'll run into is, I want to be able to select one of the company ID's (made up of a three letter abbreviation of the full company name) in the product ordering table and it will automatically fill in the rest of the customer data (phone, email, address etc) data into that form.
I have two Tables, Contacts and FlowMeters.
On the Flow Meter Form Info is listed specifically for each Flow Meter.
I would like to bring some of the information from the Contacts table on this form.
For Instance if I am on Meter 1T-02 I would like for it to associate that meter number with the name of the customer thats already on the form, then look up that customer's name in the contact table and bring over that customer's contact information.
I built this database over a year ago and it has been a long time since I have worked with the design of it, therefore I am a bit rusty.
Please help if you can.
Thank You
I have an historical database table that contains information relating to soldiers. Additionally I have many photographs, and other documents appertaining to these individual soldiers stored in folders on my PC hard drive and I would like ideally, to be able to have a link from my database to these other items, so that when I open a a soldiers record I am able to click on a link that will take me to a folder containing the photographs, letters and further documents relating to him.
However this is where I am at a loss as to how to proceed, and how I could have this facility, I run Access 2007 by the way.
Can we link a table of one database to a query of another database ?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWe have a case where there is an append query in one database that is is updating another database table. We have moved all the tables to MS-SQL (2008) using the SSMA tool. We were wondering if it would be possible to create a new linked table in the DB where the append query is. Of course we cannot use the SSMA tool again since the table already exists on the MS-SQL server.
Normally when I try to make linked tables from Access, it wants to create a ODBC connection which we are not using.
i am making a database from which i can calculate fuel required from one point to other in any particular type of vehicle.the problem is fuel from Pt A to Pt B is not same as from Pt B to Pt A.A sample table is attached as zip. qp.bmpis there any way i can cross refer field values with that of rows .
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am creating a database for the company I work for. My boss wants it to have every information possible stored and accessible through the one database. Right now the time sheet that we use is a hard copy that the guys fill out and turn in each week. Before the database started I created an excel sheet for them to start using. My boss wants me to link the excel sheet to a table in access. The way it would work is each of the guys would fill theirs out and email them to me by Friday. I would then link it to the table so that we could easily pull information we needed through a query.
I read online on the office support website that you can link a spreadsheet but then access does not store the data and the data if needed to be changed had to be done through the excel spreadsheet. Doing it like that made it sound to me that each time sheet that was turned in each would would create a new table. I was hoping there was a way to have one table with all the times on it using an employee number as the relationship key. The biggest thing though is that the guys have to use excel to fill out the time sheet because getting each guy access is "not an option" .
I am trying to link two fields in a table here is an example ....
Field A
Values stored could be....
AAA, BBB, CCC, DDD etc
LIST TO LOOK UP
AAA = UDC2
BBB = UDC1
CCC = UDC4
DDD = UDC3
Field B
Needs to lookup listi n Field A
and get correct UDC1, UDC2 etc...
I'm trying to use a template to track assets-specifically this template:URL....Is there a way I can link an excel doc to my database that provides all of my data, that is thereby linked to other tables within Access?I want my data to be updated as it is manipulated within the independent excel doc when I open access.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a database with two tables. tbl_job_information contains all the contracts info etc. tbl_data contains all the relevant work data. The first table is restricted to certain personnel, whereas anyone has access to the second table. Both tables have a column called 'job no', in the first table it is a primary key, in the second just a field. I would like to make it impossible in the second table to change the data in the 'job no' column to anything that is not in the same column in the first table. It this possible within the tables themselves, or would I have to do it via coding and forms?
View 4 Replies View Relatedthere are many threads about Table Linking but i coud not find one that answers my specific questions.
1. Can i either prevent database from linking to my tables? (or give permissins )
2. If not, can i make the table read only when linking?
3. Is there a way to confirm what databases are linked to my tables?
I have made a form (frmLogin) that is used as my homepage and has command buttons that take the user to other forms. However, I am trying to make the txt box on the frmLogin be able to filter by a date found in a table (tblDefaults) when the form is opened.
I am trying to pull the value from the tblDefaults form the column "DefDate". Whenever I open the form I get an error that says "Compile error: Invalid use of property." Here is the VBA code that I have written. Also when debugging it highlights ControlSource in my VBA code so that seems to be where the problem is but I can not figure out why.
VBA code:
Private Sub Form_Load()
Dim SQL As String
Dim db As Database
Dim rs As Recordset
[code]....
I have a table (tbl Team Info) which contains names and codes for teams within my business (>400 records) and another table (tbl Process) which contains a list of high level tasks (30 records).
I need to create something where for each team name 9in tbl Team Info) I can map them to the tasks that they undertake (in tbl Process) and assign a percentage of time then spend on each task. Each team could map to several different tasks.
I am creating a database to keep up with the expenses for my art business. I have a table for Vendors with a field (Mileage) for one-way mileage that I enter manually (EX: 11.8 miles). Then I have a calculated field that basically just multiplies the Mileage field times two to get total mileage to and from my house to vendor location. (Total Miles) {The reason I want to do this this way right now is because I didn't keep up with my mileage this year and I am having to look up the distance from my home to each location)
Then I have a "supplies" table where I show the date, the vendor, the item, cost, etc, and I want to add a Total Mileage field based on the calculated Total Miles field in the Vendors table that will automatically populate based on the vendor of each transaction. I just can't remember how to make this work and I know just enough SQL to be dangerous.
I have started work on a database to track the many (several hundred per annum) projects my company undertakes. A 'main' table lists projects, their fees, their key dates, their project numbers, etc. I have created another table for tasks. Each task is assigned to a project (via the project number), and may be 'open' or 'closed'. I have separated the tasks table from the projects table as there may be several different tasks for each project. It is also good to keep a record of the tasks.
I want to prepare a report from the projects table that lists projects IF they have any open tasks.
In my mind, this means 'If a task, with the corresponding project number, is open, put a 'Yes' in the 'Tasks open' field of the Projects table.'
I have 2 identical database in terms of structure but it differs in data.
Basically I would like to import data from subDatabase to mainDatabase and ensuring that there are no duplicate records.
I have used the "link to datasource method" through importing the tables to have the "updating" function.
However, this method also means that the records in mainDatabase are also imported over to subDatabase which I do not want.
Is there a method to ensure that the records are shared/update one way only? (i.e. import from subDatabase to mainDatabase and not main to sub?)
I am doing a project where we are collecting home owner data and information on all the dogs in the household. The data for homeowner has an autonumber primary key because no field is unique or has been consistently collected. I am struggling to link the data for the dogs to the owners because an autonumber primary key will not work since not all homes have dogs. I need to have this set up so that people who are not tech savvy can look up each homeowner (or dog) and get the dog (or home owner) information. And to make things even more fun we need up to 15 potential dogs per household each of whom will have 18 different pieces of data collected.
It looks a little like this (and you can see my not matching ID issue):
Homeowner table
ID First Name Last Name...........Total Dogs
1 Max Maximus 5
2 Min Minimus 0
3 Mus Musculus 1
Dogs 1-5 table
ID Date Dog 1 Name Dog 2 Name .......Dog 5 Name
1 (Max's) 4/11/14 Bobby Billy Betty
2 (Mus's) 4/11/14 Jojo
Min will have no dog records at all, just home information.how to link the dog's to the homeowners .
I have been asked to design a database to replace our old excel sheet to log one of our customers server builds. It a four noded system and i require a seperate log for each node serial models of parts etc, qa checks.
I intitial started by just using one table but forgot the limit was 255 rows, i need about 600 - 700. So my plan is now to transfer to indivial table for each node. Then, a general table named Main for all my other details.
Although this seems simple, i now have the annoying task of being able to link them all together and produce a single PDF file to send to our customer whilst only entering our system serial number once to produce this.
My basic understanding will be to create a System Serial Number field in each table a link it via relationships, but if i produce a report with everything i need would it input my details for all four nodes? If so how would i set this up?
I will be splitting the database once completed and then making a ACCDE file for my techs to use.
Within my table if Field 1 has an answer of Self (from drop down), then, I would like Fields 6-12 to auto populate; however, if Field 1 does not have an answer of Self, then leave Fields 6-12 blank.
I am not quite sure how to lay this out. I am using Access 2010.
I have a numeric field (long integer) in a table. I've set the format to fixed. No matter what I set the decimal places to, auto, 0 or 2, when I enter a value of 0.71, it displays as 1.00
In my form, I've also set the field property to fixed, but it displays the value as 1.
Table1 contain Two fields (3Months) and (6Months)
Table2 contain Two fields (3Months) and (6Months)
the table 2 is the source of a form that will let the user change the numbers. table 1 should change Date1 and Date2 Fields based on the two fields (3months) and (6months) if i want to make a lookup wizard it should be changed manually and if i make a calculated field i can't find other tables in the expression builder
I have a main table which is autonumbered on unitid, I have another table which is linked via the unitid which holds items purchased for the main table, so the second table is a subform of the suppliers and will have multiple entries of the same unitid. What I would like to do is when an item is entered into the second table, check the main table to see if it exists, if it does populate the unitid field with the unitid from the main table, and if not exist create a new record in the main table with the next unitid number.
This in essence is what I want, bearing in mind that the tblinvoices is a subform and the tblmain is not open.
If ([tblinvoices]![Unit] = [tblmain]![Unit]) Then
[tblinvoices]![UnitID] = [tblinvoices]![UnitID]
End If
I have a make-table query that pulls all the fields from 1 table (MainTable), and creates a new table with a date stamp based apon a form value entered (New Table = MainTableWithDate).
Currently, I setup the query to pull info from the form field like this:
DateField: [Forms]![frmmain]![DateField]
However, when the make-table query is done - all date fields are blank (all other fields are correctly created), and when I look at the new created table (mainTableWIthDate), the typeassigned to the date field is "Binary" (in the form, I've specified LongDate).
I have what is probably a stupid question but I've been struggling with this one for a while. I have an ordering database which has an Orders table (containing Order ID, Date, Supplier etc) and an Order Line table within which I have a combo box for Product name, supplier, price, VAT rate, Line price etc. At the moment, I have the order line table as a subform within the Order form (run from the Orders table). The problem I'm having is the subtotal and total fields. At the moment these are in the Order Line table as I cannot figure out how to get these in the Orders table. In summary, can I make a calculated field in one table that calculates values from another table (linked by Order ID)?
