Tables :: Lock Single Record In A Table To Be Read Only On Permanent Basis
Dec 29, 2014
I want to "lock" a record in a table so that it is read only and cannot be accessed/edited/deleted. Is it possible to lock a single record in this way on a permanent basis? It's actually the first record in the table.

I use the first record of my table as a blank when the form is opened. Users are supposed to use a drop down to navigate to a record for updating. Some users have populated fields into my blank that i've had to go in and delete.
I'm wondering if there is a way to prevent that first record from being edited.

I am tracking extreme useage on account numbers. I've set up a table to add the information on a daily basis.
Currently the table has the following Fields:
Report_Date / Account / Usage / Sent / Received / Comments / Notes
(the Sent and Received fields are Y/N)
I've gotten a report to send working as I want, but I am running like 6 queries to put all the data together correctly. For example; if an account was flagged today and sent today I do not want to send another notice for the next 5 days; but I still want to log the data in the table for historical reasons... Again, this all works. Just that it is not pretty..
The part that I keep fighting is the responses. When I receive a response I want to log that. Right now, I check the Received flag, and add in any comments the customer sends back. This is easy. But I also want to print that information out on the report - just the latest information. For example, if I send a notice out on 11/1/12, 11/18/12, 12/14/12, and 1/10/13 and I have responses back from all of these logged in the table, when this account number gets printed again - say today - I want to add to that report JUST the comments from the 1/10/13 report.

I have a table with certain parameters in, and I need to update it in a monthly basis with new costs. Basically, its a list of component costs which change on a monthly basis, and the query/report needs to pull the latest version. But, the old costs need to be kept for legacy/comparison purposes.
TblMbM Layout (titles)
-Unique_ID
-title
-code
-Feb Cost
-March Cost
At the moment, there are no costs in the march column, but i know next week i will need to update tblMbM with the latest costs.

I have a Workorder table and a Workorder form. I would like to be able to make a Workorder closed when it is finished so that it is read only. I have a finished date field so maybe by entering a date there could be a way to accomplish this?

Is it possible to have a 2 step confirmation process.
I have a yes/no control box to confirm that the record is OK or correct.
Is it possible to have a second process where by I can lock the record from erroneous data entry or editing? Like a "Post" in accounting.

What I have is a database setup with multiple tables in which different areas of my DC can input information simultaneously into their respective tables. I then have another database linked to it for myself to have a live view of each updated record. I would like to see all the records of each table in 1 single table (possibly just sorted ascending by time). Each table has the same Field headings but may have different qtys of records. As I will then have it linked to an Excel table to VLOOKUP from it.
I have tried Union coding but always get Syntax Error etc.

I want to be able to open a Table as Read Only, so that a user can browse etc., but neither alter nor enter data - I want them to use the Forms for that. How then, using VBA code, do you open a Table as Read Only?

I have a tblCustomer table to track customer information. One field is for flights the customer books. I expect that a customer might book more than one flight, which should affect what he owes. (My tblFlights table includes fields for the cost of each flight.) How should I make the Flight field in tblCustomer so it accepts multiple flights and reflects on the customer's final bill and my own accounting tables that I haven't even created, yet?
I'm probably overthinking everything. This is just an Intro to Access class, and I only need 3 tables with 1 relationship. So far, I have 9 primary tables, 4 duplicate tables (for M:N relationships) and 11 relationships. I have to have tables for financial data, customer info and product/service info. I wasn't sure what I would need for my fictional airline, so I created tables to track everything I could think of, hoping to cover all 3 required types of data in the process.

Was wondering how i can import data from a file to a table in different fields. The data inside the file is described with the number of characters and space's between. The attached file has the data.
For example in the file attached, the first four characters represent a data like 'ticket number' and maybe the third line 6 to 10 charcaters represent 'name of a passenger'.
Now how do i import these data to a table into respective fields in a table.

I am building a simplified re-order point system - if inventory position drops below a certain level (the yellow level is this case) one or more purchase order lines has to be created in another table.
I have one table with the following field and data:
ItemId Red Yellow Green Multiple Inventory position
0001 10 30 50 5 45
0002 5 40 47 5 23
0003 11 20 30 10 5
I would like to generate new records (in another table) based on the above fields and three records.Basically the end result should look as the following:
ItemId Qty Start inv Aggregated inventory Prioritization
0002 5 23 28 Yellow
0002 5 28 33 Yellow
0002 5 33 38 Yellow
0002 5 38 43 Green
0002 5 43 48 Green
0003 10 5 15 Red
0003 10 15 25 Yellow
0003 10 25 35 Green
The logic is quite simple - if inventory position is less than the yellow value new order lines should be created in multiple qty (based on the multiple field) until the aggregated value (in table 2) is above the green value. The priotization value should be based on the start inv (in tbl 2) compared to the values in red, yellow and green in tbl 1.

How to get this one to display in a single column.
I know how to do this wiht VBA. But, this output will need to reside on a SQL Server View. So I need a SQL language solution. If it can work in MS Access Query, it won't be too difficult to test then translate to SQL Server.
Customer Table with PK Customer_ID.
There are two tables with FK Customer_ID.
1. Table Lease1 - Has 3 Fields - the form code enforces No Fields -or All Fields. The red * indicate a Required field - These 3 are entered together.
2. Table Lease2 - Has 1 field with 0 to Many records.
Goal:
The Type shows up in a single column.
Each Type shows where the data comes from (Lease Type, Surface Owner, Mineral Owner, or Hz Lease Type)
Challenge:
Lease1 table has 3 fields that need to be transformed into a single column.
Lease2 table has 1 field to be appended to the single table.
Then, there is the column that identifies where the data came from based on the column name.

Hi,
On our main menu table, I only want to be able to add one record.
On the form that I have linked to this table, should you press the tab key to go through all the items / buttons, it opens a blank record screen. However, I do not want this. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

How to make a report generate on a per record basis?
Basically I need to produce a report of all logged calls for a particular customer and be able to print it out. but I am unsure of how to generate this on a per customer basis would it be a case of requesting the user to specify before running? and if so how would I go about that?

I have a table that I imported from another database. I used import Access - Link to the table source by creating a linked table. - then downloaded in my database.
I want to use the linked table to create relationships and forms but do not want to even accidently edit it. The table gets updated in the database on a weekly bases and I am hoping it gets updated automatically in my database as well. does it automatically get updated or do i have to set up something?
Also, I want to protect the data in that particular table and either password protect it or make it read only. Can I do that? If so, how?

I have a couple of tables which only have a single field. Is it worth adding a second field in order to hold an ID number (is this commonly termed an index number?) for each entry.
My other tables with multiple fields include a field for an ID number and these tables are linked via these fields.
At this stage I cannot see any reason why, in the future, I would want to add additional fields to the tables which I am currently planning to make single field.

I am trying to create a form with a button attached to each record that would allow the user to click the button and it would automatically open outlook and fill in the TO:, SUBJECT: and BODY: fields. Here is the code that I currently have:
Code:
Private Sub Command33_Click()
Dim strEmail As String
Dim strMsg As String
Dim oLook As Object
Dim oMail As Object
Set oLook = CreateObject("Outlook.Application")
Set oMail = oLook.CreateItem(0)
[code]...
There are two issues I keep running into:
1. This code opens outlook and populates all of the fields but pastes the email incorrectly. Instead of pasting just the email (email@email.com) it pastes the html tags as well (email@email.com#mailto:email@email.com#) which means that the user would have to delete everything between the #'s in order to send the email every time.
2. I currently have the email BODY pulling from a table but this obviously limits what I can do. I would like to simply encode the BODY within the VBA code. The setup I am looking for is:
one paragraph
a blank line
a hyperlink to a website
a blank line
another paragraph

I have tables Account (PK acctnum) and Orders (linked via acctnum to Account). There are multiple orders per account that need to be billed individually. When creating an invoice I need to add the Account to the Invoice table and the Orders to the InvoiceDetail table. I use 2 queries to accomplish this. The first one though adds multiple records to the invoice table (because of the one to many relationship). I need to keep that so I don't bill anyone with no orders.
INSERT INTO Invoices ( InvoiceDate, AcctNum )
SELECT DISTINCT Date() AS InvoiceDate, Account.AcctNum
FROM Account INNER JOIN [Order] ON Account.AcctNum = Order.AcctNum
WHERE (((Order.OrderNum)=[Forms]![Account]![Order].[Form]![OrderNum]) AND ((Account.BillingCycle)="on discharge") AND ((Order.EndDate) Is Not Null) AND ((Order.Closed)=Yes) AND ((Order.PatientName)=[Forms]![Account]![Order].[Form]![PatientName]));
Is there any way to get it to only add one record? I've tried limiting it with several parameters to no avail.

I have to redesign the database as things has changed. I've already built a table holding records of Clients along with their address information and some attributes that relates to Clients. Now, I need to create a table for our Business contacts. This will also need to store address info and then some attributes relating to businesses. The problem is I'm not sure if I want to take address out of Client table and have Client and Business table link to Address table to follow the rule of not having any repeating data or simply allow Business table to store address. What would be the best thing to do here? Thanks.

I've inherited a data base which has the address details of our members spread across multi fields i.e. Add 1, Add2, Add 3, Post town, Post code etc.
Not all the fields contain information which means when I do a mail merge for address labels there are blank lines.
I would like to either be able to create a single field in the table (like a memo field for example) which contains all the address detail, or create a mail merge without blank lines.
